Coun Swinyard is now responsible for levelling up, communities and place in Swindon’s Conservative-run council.
Under that title comes tasks such as improving living standards, making sure the council’s services work as it recovers from the pandemic, setting welfare and benefits policy, giving direction to make sure there the vocational and higher education opportunities needed for the future, raising school attainment, and improving the quality of housing and other buildings through the borough.
Coun Swinyard, who has been the chairman of the planning committee for two years, said: “The job is basically about improving lives, allowing people, to improve their own lives and lot and making sure all parts of the community, especially those who might have felt in the past they didn’t have the support they needed to get that.
