In the Timaru district, contractors have delivered more 20,000 blue bins in time for the first glass only collections that start July 5 in the north zone and July 12 for south zone while the Waimate council says every home should have their set of bins by now.
As part of the contract change over, the Timaru council will close its Redruth Resource Recovery Park on Wednesday and Thursday to allow for the operational transition.
Timaru's group manager infrastructure Andrew Dixon said that the team had been working hard to ensure the transition went as quickly and easily as possible.
“We’re confident that for the majority of people, remembering to put rinsed glass without lids in the blue bin, and putting it out at the same time as their yellow bin, will be the only significant change.
