With a third of Netflix users believed to be sharing their accounts with another person, a new report is noting that the streaming platform is testing how to stop people from sharing passwords.
Some users have already reported being met with a message while using another person’s account. Taking over the screen, the message reads, “If you don’t live with the owner of this account, you need your own account to keep watching.” A Netflix spokesperson simply noted that “this test is designed to help ensure that people using Netflix accounts are authorized to do so.” Currently, a Basic Netflix plan in the U.S. costs $8.99 USD per month, a Standard plan (play on two separate devices) costs $13.99 USD per month, while a Premium (play on four separate devices) costs $17.99 USD.
