Proceedings wrapped up just before lunch on the third day of a hearing to remove District Attorney Greg Newman from office, leaving Judge Robert C. Ervin to deliberate on the evidence and decide whether Newman is out as district attorney.
After two days of witness testimony in the inquiry, April 14 kicked off with closing statements, where both sides - independent counsel and defense attorneys for Newman - laid out their cases before Judge Ervin.
Newman, who's held the office since his appointment in 2013 and subsequent reelections in 2014 and 2018, is facing removal from the office under G.S. 7A-66 after a Feb. 11 filing in Henderson County Superior Court.
