The evacuation effort is being led and co-ordinated by Indigenous Services Canada as residents of First Nations have been particularly hit hard by the fires. Smog from these fires, and others across Western Canada could be seen in Cornwall and across the region Monday.
Many of the residents are already fully vaccinated, and the EOHU will be co-ordinating vaccinations for those still requiring a second dose. All have been tested for COVID-19 and so far, there have been no positive test results. Cornwall’s social services staff members are on-site, as are other support personnel from local community health centres and other agencies.
