Naturgy is partnering with Enagas on a feasibility study for the production of green hydrogen from up to 250MW of floating wind power, located off the coast of Asturias in north-west Spain.
The study will investigate the feasibility of the production of green hydrogen from 350MW of wind in total, including a 100MW onshore wind farm in Asturias, an autonomous community.
The green gas would be for consumption by heavy industry in Asturias, to decarbonise steel-making and shipyards.
The floating wind farm would potentially be built with floating technology developed by Navantia-Windar, with up to 24 platforms, Naturgy said.
The study will also explore how the hydrogen can be distributed on a large-scale through the gas network and exported to Europe.
