Police identified the child killed as Jamayla Marlowe
The girl who survived was shot in the arm and is expected to recover, the Metro Nashville Police Department reported.
Also shot that night: Two men identified by police as Nashville residents Thomas L. Winston Jr., 23, and Deandre Dean, 26. Both men suffered non life-threatening injuries in the incident, police said.
As of late Tuesday afternoon, two people had been arrested in connection to the case, but none of their charges were related to firing any of the fatal shots Tuesday night, police said, noting that their investigation continues.
The sisters were in a car caught in crossfire about 6:40 p.m. at the public housing complex off 25th Avenue North and Dowlan Street. The driver of the car, police said, attempted to accelerate away as both children were struck by bullets.
