NASA has debunked rumours about an "internet apocalypse" caused by solar storms, that could disrupt global connectivity for months. While a severe solar storm is unlikely, its potential economic impact in the US alone could be $11bn per day. Computer science professor Sangeetha Abdu Jyothi, author of the paper 'Solar Superstorms: Planning for an Internet Apocalypse,' has said that such events have not been experienced before, so the response of infrastructure to such events remains unknown.
