N.T. Honey Day", in recognition of their ace new album
Accidental Punk. Why Tāmaki's
Anya Henis hasn't already got a shelf full of Silver Scrolls is a mystery to me, as her long player with bassist / backing singer
Ducklingmonster (The Futurians) and drummer
Jade Farley (Pumice, The Gladeyes) is packed with some of the straight up best local songwriting you're likely to hear this year — lyrically imaginative, funny, incisive and wise. That it's all swathed in a casually deployed wall of fuzzy guitars and clattering percussion only elevates further the enigmatic and adventurous aura surrounding these tunes, which dive off in unexpected directions whenever they get the urge. 'High Tide' asks the only question anyone cares about during summer, the spooky 'Medusa' finds the trio on a quest to discover "where the snakes are," 'Island' puts an exotica spin on Henis' post-punk musings, and earlier singles 'Run Away' and 'Suspicious Cat' shine alongside the newly released songs. There's nothing accidental about how dang great this album sounds though, recorded with
