New Jersey on Tuesday reported another 1,930 confirmed casesof the coronavirus and an additional 60 confirmed deaths, a day after Gov. Phil Murphy announced the state will ease a series of COVID-19 restrictions in two weeks as numbers improve.
Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations rose slightly for the first time in six days, but the state’s transmission rate dropped to 0.88, its lowest point in two months. Any number under 1 indicates that the outbreak is slowing, with each new case leading to less than one other case.
“That’s hopefully the beginning of a trend and the turning of a corner,” Murphy said as he announced the new figures at an unrelated event in Hillsborough.
