WHILE the nation celebrated Freedom Day yesterday, many South Africans said it meant nothing to them.
In Mpumalanga, activists from Abahlali baseMjondolo said South Africa had fake freedom. Movement president Sbu Zikode spoke to
Daily Sun during the Freedom Day commemoration in Volksrust.
“We don’t have freedom without land in our country of birth,” he said.
“There’s no freedom without decent housing for the homeless, there’s no freedom when people are living in abject poverty.
“We’re not trying to undermine those who paid the ultimate price for freedom, but we think 27 years is enough to have achieved the promises of our constitutional democracy.”
