MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI – Special education and elementary school teachers and staff in Muskegon County began receiving COVID-19 vaccinations this week, making educators there the first in West Michigan to get the injections.
School leaders in the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District (MAISD) were notified Tuesday, Jan. 5, that the Muskegon County Health Department would be scheduling free COVID-19 vaccines for a limited group of educators and support staff, according to a letter from Superintendent John Severson.
The letter came one day before Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced essential workers like teachers and first responders, along with all residents over the age of 65, would be eligible for vaccinations against the coronavirus starting Monday, Jan. 11.
