Vancouver’s mid-sized classical music presenters have never just offered concerts to interested listeners. Community is central to how organizations with limited resources but big ideas make music in Vancouver so rich and varied.
But how to preserve these values and connections in our last, unprecedented year? Various organizations tried different schemes, most with unexpected success and, just possibly, long term consequences.
Take Music in the Morning as a case study. Back in 1985, June Goldsmith built on her experience as a music educator and created a matinee performance series showcasing an eclectic assortment of artists. Over the decades, the series grew and diversified.
