A 30-year-old employee at the Deutsches Museum in Munich stole valuable paintings and sold them to fund a luxurious lifestyle. The employee replaced a painting with a fake and auctioned it off, earning €50,000. He also stole three more artworks, two of which were sold for an additional €11,490. The thief received a 21-month suspended sentence and was ordered to repay the museum €60,600. Efforts are being made to recover the stolen artworks. The case highlights the lengths some individuals go to for a life of luxury, even at the expense of cultural heritage.
