Police declared an unlawful assembly among protesters Friday afternoon in downtown Salem and used non-lethal munitions including flash bangs to disperse the crowd after separating opposing groups of protesters.
Salem Police Lt. Debbie Aguilar said the department had made "several arrests," but didn't give the names of those arrested.
Salem Police reported protesters have used chemical munitions against them. A yellow smoke canister was thrown at the police, as were lit fireworks.
The rallies started peaceful Friday and two sides stayed separate in the first part of the afternoon.
