WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Just hours after the National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Watch for Central Wisconsin, the first snow emergency of the storm was issued by the Village of Plover.
More are expected to come down as the predicted snowfall draws nearer. As of Wednesday morning, the NWS is calling for between 5-8 inches of snowfall and wind gusts as high as 40 MPH. That could create dangerous, whiteout conditions on the roadways.
A snow emergency prohibits parking on city streets for the duration of the event to allow street crews to completely clear the roadway, creating safer travel conditions. Any vehicle that remains parked on the street during the emergency is subject to ticketing and towing at the owner’s expense.
