The heroic dr. Anthony fauci gets tonights last word. The 11th Hour with Stephanie Ruhle starts now. Tonight the Harris Campaign launches a Media Blitz as trump ramps of his angry rhetoric less than a month from Election Day. Plus, a powerful hurricane threatening florida again, less than two weeks after helenes destruction. The rest to prepare as public officials Battle Misinformation. Morning those lost and still missing. One year since the horrific Terror Attack on israel as the 11th Hour gets underway on this monday night. Good evening once again. Im Stephanie Ruhle. We are now 29 days away from the Election Day but today was a day of mourning. Its been one year since the October 7 Terrorist attack on israel. At the White House, president Joe Biden held a Candle Lighting Ceremony to remember the victims and he reaffirmed u. S. Support for israel while Vice President harris repeated the Administrations Commitment to securing a Ceasefire Deal and the release of israeli hostages. We will have the latest on the conflict later this hour. Meanwhile, the 2024 candidates have less than one month to get their message out. The Harris Walz Campaign launched a Media Blitz over the weekend with a pretaped interview with Vice President harris on the podcast call her daddy and a Sitdown Interview with 60 minutes. One of The Ways we know we can uplift the ability of women to have choices is uplift the ability of women to have economic health and wellbeing. When you invest in small businesses, you invest in the middle class, and you strengthen americas economy. Small businesses are part of the back one of americas economy. Important, Vice President , the question was, how are you going to pay for it. One of the things, im going to make sure that the richest among us, who can afford it, pay their fair share in taxes. It is just the beginning of a slate of scheduled Sit Downs the Campaign Hopes will get them in front of more voters, even as republicans continue to criticize them for blaming the press. On the Flipside Donald trumps angry rhetoric is only anticipated. Over the weekend the former President Light again, suggesting that democrats tried to kill him and that they are cheating in this election. With that lets get started with the help of our panel. Peter baker is here, chief white House Correspondent for the New York times. Susan glasser, Staff Writer for the New Yorker and personal boss of Peter Baker joins us, and mark leibovitz, Staff Writer for the atlantic. Hes no relation to susan or peter. Peter, were going to let you go first. Can we just look at this . 60 minutes, call her daddy podcast, howard stern, late night shows, the view. I interviewed Vp Harris for 25 minutes a week and a half ago on the economy. Her campaign promised that she would be getting out. Here she is. Whats the strategy . The rally stage, the summer of joy has kind of worked itself through. Its gotten as far as it can get. They need to mix it up again, to try and see if they can earn some more votes and when would you do it is by making the story fresh. The need to have a fresh story by doing interviews, by having conversations, by attracting voters who may only be turning in now to pay attention to the campaign. So i think that theyve got a few weeks left. Theyve got 29 days to make the difference with this handful of people, Really small number of people theyve got left. Interviews are one way. Now many of them are not as tough as you are. A lot of them are going to be friendly interviewers but a few like 60 minutes are legitimate journalists like msnbc, like you and other interviewers, mixing it up between those and the ones where she feels like she can have a little bit of interactions with, that will be more friendly and perhaps fun for the audience but she has to answer tough questions and i think she wants to show that shes not afraid of tough questions, and thats why shes doing some of these lets just stick with that, susan, because he was criticized for not doing interviews. Now shes criticized that the interviews are too friendly. The goalpost keeps moving for her. Are they going to stop . Is there something she can do to make them stop or is it Really theyre just goading her to do more and more, hoping more exposure will mean she will slip up and make a mistake . Look, 29 days out of a too close to call election, of course the other side is rooting for her to make a mistake and to screw up but im struck by the fact, stephanie, that there is no obvious kind of what the campaigns are Calling Tentpole moment left in this campaign. One of the reasons harris has to go out and do all of these interviews is because there is no more debates. Donald trump has not accepted she has accepted the proposal to do a third president ial debate this year or the second between the two of them. Trump is refusing to do that or go after the Vice President ial debate last week there is no other obvious moment of sort of convening a massive audience and their hope was that 60 minutes has a very highly rated the most highly rated news program, would be the opportunity to do that. Donald trump backed out of his own 60 Minutes Interview so if youre looking for a contrast, obviously thats a pretty sharp contrast that harris was willing to sit down with 60 minutes and Donald Trump. They did have, by The Way, a blistering introduction in which they pointed that fact out and that Donald Trump not only refused to do the interview, but was lying to 60 minutes itself about what he claimed they had done to him in their 2016 interview. A vintage moment, Really. 60 minutes brought receipts. Lets talk about the comparison, mark. Because drum canceled on 60 minutes. Hes refused to do another debate. I have asked him every single day since i sat down with Vp Harris, ive asked the Trump Campaign, would he sit down, same rules, one topic, the economy, lets do this, and hes not doing any of those things. Hes going on Fox News and ultra friendly podcasts to promote his campaign and his business is. So republicans, are they Really in a position to criticize here . No, of course not. I think what this underscores is Donald Trump is running a base campaign. Base i guess has sort of a double meaning here but these in terms of going after the supporters who have been with him for a long time. It doesnt look like he has a lot of room to grow or even cares that much. Kamala harris is the relatively new candidate in this race, the new candidate in this race does have room to grow and i think, to this point earlier, the work 60 minutes did, Really at the top, to me i thought the take away moment from the 60 Minutes Interview was the anchor at first, i guess it was scott pelley, not just sort of doing the cursory we asked the Trump Campaign to appear and they said no but actually, like you said, they went the full nine yards. It took a couple minutes, talked about the lies or called trump out and it Really did, i think, Paint A very, very pointed picture, especially in contrast between the two candidates but also when you consider the Debate Dynamic at this point and unfortunately it doesnt look like they are going to be on the same stage again. And we go back to this idea that she is being criticized that shes only doing friendly interviews and people are on the attack going after Donald Trump . Isnt the difference that Donald Trump is giving journalists lie after lie after lie that we are in a position to Fact Check every single day. We can ask Kamala Harris a question and not like her answer, and feel like shes speaking in platitudes and youre not up for that policy but its not about whether or not you like her policy. When it comes to Donald Trump, hes lying. Your Reporting Today talks about the clear decline hes in, the differences he shows as a Candidate Today versus even a year ago or two years ago. Its Really striking when they say that shes not willing to take westerns and they take questions and say youre not allowed to Fact Check me. Im allowed to say anything i want no matter how true it is or not true. Youre not allowed to point out any contrary information or facts. You are right on that. I think hes mainly starting friendly interviews, conservative media, friendly media. Not just friendly media, people who are openly on his side who are participating in the campaign in some way or another and i think thats of course a contrast you are right to say that hes called out on telling things that are not true, that are lies, that are false information and doesnt seem to be actually moving the needle. We did a Fact Check on him a couple weeks back. We looked at a typical Trump Rally and a typical harris rally. One of the statements that were made at these two rallies could be called false or misleading and his number was something like 63 in a single Rally And Hers was like six, so 10 times as much. Obviously you dont want to call it false equivalence. Its not that she doesnt say things that any politician does, that are untrue and misleading but the proportion here is obviously very striking and it is something i think we see more and more when we talk about the story about his age, if you want. Clearly you go back and watches videos and you do any kind of analysis of how things have changed over the years, hes increasingly willing to say things that are not just untrue but are so detached from reality, like the cats and Dogs Meme and yet it doesnt seem to rebound against him. Its not our job to call out whether we like her policies or her answers. Its our job to call out lies and you said it there, what was it, 60six . Theres a difference. I also want to play some of the lies he spread just this weekend. Watch this. Over the past eight years, those who want to stop us from achieving this future have slandered me, impeached me, indicted me, tried to throw me off the ballot, and who knows, maybe even tried to kill me. Theyre going to cheat. They cheat. Thats all they want to do is cheat and when you see this its the only way theyre going to win. We cant let that happen and we cant let it happen again. Susan, it was peters words that he said much of what hes saying is increasingly angry and rambling. Donald trumps age was never Really called into question when he was running against Joe Biden. Certainly Joe Bidens was. Will it be more in focus now that hes running against Kamala Harris . Thats not the Donald Trump We Saw a couple of years ago. No. Lets be clear, first of all, that trump if he were elected would be the oldest man ever to serve as president , if he serves the next four years, oldest ever to be elected as president and taken well into his 80s at a moment in time when you can chart, as peter has done in his reporting, as others have done, the very clear downward trajectory of trump. This is very noticeable. Go back and look at him campaigning in 2016 and you will see a different person. One number that Really stuck out to me in Peters Story was the average length of time in a Trump Rally has nearly doubled. Its over 80 minutes now. Hes talking and talking and talking, to the point of does it seem like hes randomly reveling on . Yes, the answer is yes. This is in every possible way a man unwilling to relinquish the stage. Literally relinquish the stage in his rallies and of course metaphorically, as well. Mark, Elon Musk is Donald Trumps newest surrogate. We saw them together at a rally this weekend where he said this. This is no ordinary election. The other side wants to take away your freedom of speech. They want to take away your right to bear arms. They want to they want to take away your right to vote. They want to take away your right to vote . That is not true. But a lot of people are going to believe it because it is coming from Elon Musk, one of the most successful businessmen on the planet. How worried does that make you, mark . Its obviously worrisome and as you mentioned, its a lie but also in the real world there are actually people sitting out there who are going to sort of metal this guy who Really has presented himself like a clown, at this event jumping around on the stage, in a way that i dont know, is that actually a compelling strategy . The left Really, maybe, trump obviously loves celebrity, he obviously reveres wealth and Elon Musk has a great deal of power in a very defined but ultimately very influential Media Space on twitter, i guess x its called now. It is hard to know, though, what we are seeing on screen, how that translates into the real world of politics, how people make Voting Decisions and so forth. I am dubious there are actually people out there who might actually be persuaded to vote for this guy because of the guy behind him jumping around on the stage but who knows. Musk has power in other spheres as well. Donald trump has said he wants Elon Musk to run a government efficiency commission, which in theory lots of americans totally agree with. Lots of americans think the government is way too big and spends way too much money. But trump and Elon Musk are leaving out a Really important fact, that unlike most americans who are sick of government spending, Elon Musk has billions of Dollars Worth of government contracts. How does that square, peter . Couldnt that be a Conflict Of Interest . Of course. You say hes one of the most successful businessmen of our generation. Thats absolutely true. One of the reasons why is because hes getting billions of dollars from the u. S. Government. Nasa pays him to launch astronauts and launch crews and cargo to the space station. Hes a federal contractor. And of course he has interest in who is in the Oval Office and the person who is in the Oval Office has an interest in Elon Musk supportive of him so youre absolutely right that these are not disinterested parties here who have no particular stake in this, absolutely. So it raises all kinds of questions. If he Really does win and Really does appoint musk to head some sort of commission like this, its hard to imagine going too far. Weve seen 1 Million commissions that were more serious than that fall by The Wayside but it will raise questions about Conflict Of Interest and once again reminds us that when Donald Trump talks about how Kamala Harris is a communist or marxist, what he likes to do is he likes to take winners and losers in the marketplace. Thats something he did in his fouryear term so when he talks about capitalism he talks about his friends and the people who support him having all the advantages and punishing those he thinks are enemies of his. Make no mistake, if Donald Trump is elected and goes big on tariffs, terraces another way to pick big winners and big losers. Peter, susan, mark, thank you all for starting us off on a big night like tonight. When we return we are all going to take a deep breath because it has been one year since the hamas terrorists killed more than 1000 people in israel and took 250 hostages. We reflect with a survivor and a former colleague who is also a Family Member of some hostages. And later i speak with a former Homeland Security Official under trump about how the former president used to politicize natural disasters and hes trying to do it again. It has been one year since hamas brutally attacked israel, killing more than 1000 people in taking hundreds more hostage. My Colleague Raff Sanchez has the latest from israel. Reporter as the sun rose, israel stopped to remember, a nation still reeling in grief. Thousands gathering at the site of the new Music Festival at 6 29 a. M. , one year to the minute that the Terror Attack began. This is the last track that played at the festival before the music stopped and the shooting started. Reporter up to 1200 people massacred by hamas on October 7th, nearly a third were killed here, Executed On The Festival Grounds were gunned down trying to escape. We first visited the Nova Site five days after the attack. Scattered belongings, the debris of lives cut short. This was a place of music, a place of joy, a place of dancing, and now there is just a deathly, deathly silence here. Reporter One Year Later, Noah Yaffe returning to the place where her Little Brother been yahoo was murdered. A musician with big dreams, he was killed weeks before his 23rd birthday. If you could speak to your brother, what would you tell him . That i love him and i miss him so much. I just want to have him. Listen to his voice again. Reporter among the bloodshed, 251 people taken hostage. Men, women and children. 101 remain in captivity including seven americans. The youngest hostages, kabir ribas, nine months old on October 7th and his fouryear old brother, ariel, unaccounted for, their fate unknown. Israel fighting back against not just hamas In Gaza but also hezbollah In Lebanon and their backers, iran. The u. S. Supplying israel with weapons but also trying and failing to secure a ceasefire. The war that started on October 7th now a deadly regional conflict. In gaza today, no memorials. Palestinian families just hoping to survive. In Israels Effort to destroy hamas, its killed 41,000 gazans, according to the hamas run health ministry, almost half of them children. Banal of you hotter is responsible for her eight grandkids. Their fathers, her two sons, were both killed in an israeli strike. I cannot bear their loss, she says, but setting her own grief aside to care for children trapped in your long war that feels like it may never end. Im honored to have Natalie Sena dodgy here tonight. Shes a survivor of the attack on the nova Music Festival in Israel One year ago and my dear friend and former colleague martin fletcher. Hes a former Nbc News Correspondent and Bureau Chief in tel aviv. We spoke to them both on the show after the October 7th attack last year. It was exactly one year ago, you were at that Music Festival. You ran for hours and hours until a Stranger Help you to safety, help you make it back safe to New York. How did you feel at home One Year Later . You know theres a old quote that i said in an article about a year ago that to me was not significant but to the person interviewing me was so significant that they made it the title of the article. And that was that as a jews i feel safer in israel even in a time of war than i do here in the united states. And unfortunately that statement is just as true today as it was almost a year ago. Youve been back to israel several times since. Are you in touch with those two men who you ran with . Did you ever meet the man in that White Van who Really rescued you at The End . It took me about three months to track him down because as soon as he rescued us and dropped us off in his hometown, he turned around to go save more lives. But i finally got to meet him in person and thank him for saving my life. His name was Roche Casati and him and his son drove back and forth from their hometown of to teach to the Festival Grounds for about 8 or 10 hours that day and they saved between 300 and 400 lives on that day. Risking their own lives over and over again for people they dont even know. Extraordinary. Before October 7th, you worked in Real Estate in the u. S. You did not go back to that. You are now working in advocacy and just last week you spoke at a bring them home rally in los angeles. You spoken to many Hostage Families. What are they telling you . That couldve been you. What they are telling me is they are doing their best not to lose hope and meeting them and speaking with them reminds me why i need to continue speaking out until every single one of the 101 hostages that are still being held In Gaza are all home. I Cant Stop speaking until theyre all back because i feel as if i owe it to them. I survived. I made it out. I wasnt taken hostage and they were and i feel that i owe them my voice. What has all of this been like for you, to report on it, to experience it. Two of your wifes Family Members were hostages. They are released. How are you feeling tonight . When this attack first happened you were on tv with us almost every night. You, you know, listening to natalie now and thinking about everything, what strikes me is, is there a better way to point out how pointless war is . This is such an antiwar story, isnt it . The victims on both sides seem to be unnecessary. It becomes yes it was personal for me in the sense that my Wifes Family were involved, even though there were two hostages, three people were killed on that day and eight were taken from them, seven at least, one is still a hostage. It just strikes me, all the wars ive covered and all the drama present during my very long career at nbc covering Really often, wars, this one particular strikes me how pointless it all is, and unnecessary suffering and the pictures you showed of the two redheaded voice, the baby, the oneyearold baby and his four yearold brother, these people are children, are still hostages. Who in their right mind keeps a oneyearold baby has a hostage . Is it possible to release that one child . And then you said against that the number you mentioned, that raff mentioned, that have to 40,000 people who were killed In Gaza are children. By children they mean under the age of 18. Its just horrifying, painful, and in a way shameful. Martin, you lived in israel for many, many years. Did you think we would be where we are today . No, no, not Really. Look, the tragedy of whats happening is after this one year of horrific violence In Gaza, is that israel is living through this and palestinians living through this, actually the worst of it could be yet to come. Israel going to war with hezbollah In Lebanon, israel says they destroyed half of Hezbollahs Arsenal of rockets but we know that we are told iran for many years, hezbollah has 150,000 to 200,000 rockets and israel destroyed half of them in just a few weeks. Still that leaves another 75,000 to 100,000 rockets at hezbollahs disposal. The worst could easily beget to come and israel facing off against iran now, everyone is waiting for what israels response will be to iranian attack of 300 ballistic missiles fired at israel. So will there be a wider war . Will america be dragged into the war . Its already a regional war. So no, i didnt think it would be this bad. I was hoping there would be some kind of serious move towards peace to avoid exactly this kind of situation. But for the time being, moves toward peace are very much on the back burner. Natalie, what is it like for you to live here . You said a moment ago, until those hostages are home, you wont feel okay. What is it like for you to live your life in New York among people who arent thinking about the conflict, theyre just going about their days . Recently i did a video with Influencer Zach Sage fox and we walked around washington square park, and we went up to random people and asked them how they felt about October 7th. Most of them didnt understand what the significance of that date was and we reminded them it was when hamas attacked israel and most of them said it was resistance, they deserved it, and then when we asked them why they said i dont know enough about the subject to Really give you an answer to that. To see how much hate there is for israel and the jewish people here in the united states, and for people to see for me to see that these people dont Really have a reason for that hate, its probably something they read online, maybe something popular right now, theyre disagreeing with it. Its scary. Its hurtful. As someone who experienced that first hand, i think thats whats hard for people to understand, is that when i say i feel safer in israel, even at a time of war, then i do in the united states right now, what i mean is on the date to date basis, when im walking down the street in israel i know im surrounded by people who care about me. I dont feel that my life is at rest. When my friends here need to change their name on an Uber App if they have two jewish of a name and they are getting hateful messages or when ive been docks to try to silence me from stepping out for my people, it makes me fear for my life. In that same breath i can say that ive also received a lot of support and i think whats surprising to most americans do here is that a lot of the support i received is from iranians all over the world, because if anyone understands this war its the people who are experiencing it firsthand. They understand that hamas is proxy of their regime that is killing their innocent people, especially since the death of musso amini, who was just about a year before the October 7th attacks, and the most Love And Support that ive received throughout this entire year is from the iranian community. Thank you so much for joining us tonight. Thank you. Martin, always good to see you. I wish i saw you on a more joyful occasion. That is certainly not tonight but i appreciate you joining us. When we return what is next for israel as they continue to fight on two fronts on this one Year Anniversary of the October 7th attack when the 11th Hour continues. With us for more, hug are somali, former mideast Policy Advisor at the Treasury Department and former Syria And Lebanon director at the White House. Yeah your rosenberg is here, Staff Writer for the atlantic. Talk to us about these tensions between israel, lebanon and iran. What could be next . We know that israel right now is debating how to respond to iran and the united states biden administration is pressuring israel not to attack its nuclear facilities. But the Netanyahu Government and prime Minister Netanyahu has been very bold. Hes been taking gambles and risks lately and you see that play out In Lebanon specifically. I wouldnt have seen, somebody who analyzes this quickly, as somebody who worked on lebanon, i wouldnt have seen this happening a year ago but things changed dramatically on the ground over the last 12 months israel had dramatically diminished hezbollahs capabilities and killed off a number of military leaders, and that increased their desire or their willingness to escalate things further in response to all the missiles and rooms that hezbollah was lobbing at the north of israel. So i expect whats happening In Lebanon to continue because this is an opportunity for israel to significantly diminish the threats they face on the ground from all these iranian proxies that are surrounding them. We are less than one month from the election. How is this crisis impacting the relationship between the u. S. And israel . Its a very challenging thing for all the parties to navigate. The middle east has a way of appending any assumptions you throw at it. Obviously the democratic party has been split on this issue for quite some time and Vice President harris has to do this delicate dance while trying to keep the coalition together and people who are more supportive of israel are more radical and she also does this while president Joe Biden engages in international diplomacy so she has very limited options even if she wanted to diverge in any way from this line because if she did there would be effectively two american policies and that would be no american foreign policy. So i cant see this as something thats going to make her job easier. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has been saying that if i were president , none of this wouldve happened which is one of those delightfully frumpy and unfalsifiable claims that he likes to make about himself but can be appealing for people who want to believe it. Prime Minister Netanyahu has faced a lot of criticism for The Way he handled responding to the October 7th attack. What is the pressure on him like in israel from other countries, not just from people inside israel from countries around the world, especially from the u. S. . October 7th sort of destroyed the Myth Netanyahu built around himself as mr. Security, the people who will keep israel safe whether you like him or not. As an israeli voter you can trust him to handle that particular issue. Not on that day and it is true that more recently he has successfully, with Israels Security services, degraded dramatically the Hezbollah Terrorist Group In Lebanon. That is giving him a certain amount of credibility but if you look at the holes they havent changed that much. You still see that if there were an election held today, his coalition would lose, but code optically that means his coalition has all the incentives in the world, all the parties in it, not to break up, to stay in power rather than to go to new elections because we know if we go to elections we would probably lose so although he faces pressures both within israel and outside israel over a whole variety of issues, hes going to try to keep this government together for as long as possible. He doesnt have another election until 2026 and my guess is thats what he would like to do if he can handle that, he will, and he does perceive himself to be in a position of strength for once, since October 7th. Israel perceives itself to be in a position of strength, as we heard, because they successfully turned the tables on not just hezbollah but iran which is behind both hamas and hezbollah and said now its your move to keep shooting at us when you are failing to stop us and now weve basically forced you to back into a corner and decide do you Really want a full Scare War which well probably lose or are you willing to back down . That sort of the dilemma we find ourselves in right now. Here we are, weve talked about all this and on the last topic we are coming to is the most important. What happened to the Ceasefire Deal . Where has been been no process . We felt like we were closer to that a few months ago and now it feels like its certainly not going to happen before the election but i dont know if its going to happen before The End of the year, and as numerous guests mentioned, expected to increase further and the hostages might remain there for a longer period of time than we wouldve liked. You have a number of hostages, around 100 of them who are left. You also have several of them by The Way, who are american citizens. Four of them are presumed to be alive and there are Hostage Families who ask u. S. To consider a unilateral deal with hamas, and the u. S. Administration tried to placate them a bit by saying they would consider it but it wasnt a very serious consideration and i understand that. They cant do something like that and bypass israel, that said, this worn out, it has evolved and it appears that netanyahu used this war is one of the major wars in israels history, like 1948, 1957. These are wars that fundamentally changed how things were on the ground and this is the era that we are going into, which is why i believe that things are going to last longer, unfortunately, they will go longer if one side is too weak and when one side is too weak it is very obvious that is going to be proxies, that is when a deal will be cut and it will happen. Wars duende and adversaries do become partners. Its tougher in The Middle East but it will take a lot but well get there. I thank you so much for joining me tonight. Hurricane milton is expected to make landfall on wednesday and officials warn its impact could be catastrophic to my Colleague Tom llamas has more. Reporter tonight in florida, residents facing mountains of debris from one hurricane and no another Monster Storm barreling towards them, the second time in less than two weeks, and this one may be even more catastrophic. You always worry but this one, theres something about this one that im feeling very uneasy about. Reporter with Hurricane Milton strengthening to a dangerous cut 5, at least six counties have issued mandatory evacuation orders. If you remain there, you could die. My men and women could die trying to rescue you. Reporter highways are clogged with people fleeing inland. On nbc 6 South Florida Meteorologist John Morrell is reporting on miltons intensification. Weve struck 50 millibars in 10 hours. I apologize this is just horrific. Reporter that rapid intensification fueled by climate change, just like helene before it. The remnants from helene, broken furniture and downed trees, are still everywhere. This creates a Safety Hazard and it also will increase the damage that milton could do with flying debris. Reporter Floridas Governor has called it a debris removal mission, asking counties to work nonstop to get rid of all of this junk, and even ordering Waste And Landfill sites to stay open through the night. Nbc newss Marissa Parra found that effort continuing today in overdrive. Inet treasure island, one of Floridas Barrier islands. Its filled with debris like this. Calling all reinforcements to remove it. Just look at this line of city trucks, Garbage Trucks behind me. Reporter all over the Gulf Coast theyre getting ready, including a tampa general. This video went viral during helene. Facilities chief Dustin Pastore checking the Aqua Fence as it kept Tampa Bay from entering hospital rooms. He hopes its strong enough for milton. 12 feet with a High Tide gets us very close to our limit here so thats a little concerning if thats what we actually see. Meanwhile, Donald Trump and his supporters continue to spread misinformation about the Government Response to Hurricane Helene and Femas Administrator is warning it has caused Fear And Distrust among residents who need help the most. Now the Harris Campaign is out with a new ad featuring two former trump officials blasting his administrations handling of Disaster Relief. Watch this. I work in the Trump Administration. Never in 1 Million years did i think id be working in the White House with a president who doesnt care about the american people. He would suggest not giving Disaster Relief to states that havent voted for him. I remember one time after a wildfire in california, he wouldnt send relief because it was a democratic state, so we went as far as looking up how many votes he got in those impacted areas to show him these are people who voted for you. Regardless of politics. Joining me now is one of the people you just saw in that add. Kevin carroll, a former trump Homeland Security Official. Kevin, it cannot be easy for you to speak out about your experience. Without a doubt, youre going to get heat. What did you learn working for Donald Trump as president and what made you decide to speak up . I learned his unfitness to be president of the united states. We want our leaders to be leaders, thats what i was taught growing up in the army and Kamala Harris when she was a prosecutor saying Kamala Harris for the people, Donald Trump is saying for himself. Its antithetical to him to do something for Someone Else who cant do something for him in return. Its shown, for example, his comments about our deceased soldiers were fallen servicemembers being suckers and losers and its shown here by him withholding, seeming to withhold until his staff [ inaudible ] otherwise. And you experienced that . Im sorry . You experienced that during the Trump Administration . It was common knowledge on the staff and at dhs that trump was trying to withhold [ inaudible ] but John Kelly confirmed. He said this was the case in both puerto Rico And California and some other instances as well, that he had to, at great length, convinced trump to release the aid to those who hadnt voted for him. And it doesnt surprise me because i also heard in the administration that he wanted to move the navy out of hawaii because hawaii didnt vote for him. Its absolutely bizarre stuff, thats the reality of working in the Trump Administration. So many former officials like yourself, like your boss, John Kelly, have spoken out against Donald Trump. Do you think people are listening . I hope so. 91 people that had worked for him in some capacity in the administration, speaking out against him coming back. The people that have seen him up close, that know him best, perceive the danger the most, if this man comes back into office. How do conspiracies like the ones hes spreading right now, how do they impact Recovery Efforts for people who need help the most . I think it makes people that should be reaching out to fema, should be reaching out to dhs and other state and local authorities for help, hesitant to do so because they think aid is not going to be available for him when in fact it is. It increases distrust of the government at a time where the Hurricane Official and the Weather Official you had on before, warning that people in Florida Need to do as they are told and get away from this gigantic hurricane thats coming. He says hes less inclined to believe a Government Expert who, in this case, has been in a lifeanddeath situation. Lets talk about florida because they are bracing for another hurricane. Nbc was reporting that republican governor Ron Desantis was dodging Vp Harriss call. His team said they werent dodging it, that her call seemed political. For the people in that state, when lawmakers are playing a game of politics, what could the impact be . A lack of coordination between state and federal authorities. When coordination needs to be the closest. You would want to [ inaudible ] not only the department of Homeland Security but the active Duty Military with the national Guard And State police. Its just terrible that you would have a governor refusing the call from one of the senior officials in the federal government at a time when millions of his citizens are at risk. He took a lot of heat for hugging Barack Obama in 2012 during stupor so unsteady but he did the right thing and i think he saved a lot of lives in New Jersey and thats more important than politics. It certainly is. Kevin, thank you for speaking out tonight. Thank you for your work. I appreciate it. Thank you, stephanie. Well be right back. Back
