We have been Making Plans for what resources would be needed to be moved where and once we had a better idea of where the impacts would be. As we have this better idea we have begun moving additional resources into the area which is on top of the personnel and resources we have from Hurricane Helene and we had an opportunity to talk to the governor earlier this morning and expect he will come in for an Emergency Request which enables us to make sure we can do everything we need for the people who may be in Harms Way as a result. We do have some new numbers in from your Office Today with federal assistance for survivors which has surpassed 137 Million to help them recover and rebuild and you are leading one of the largest mobilizations of federal partners, resources and recent history. Can you tell us about that . That number with the amount of funding that went out already is the immediate assistance. That is the basic needs like food, medicine, clothing. Some of it is already going out to support Home Repairs but this will rise drastically as we get better information about what damages people have to their homes and start to issue financial assistance to help them repair those homes and we will continue to work with the communities as they understand the impact and at the same time were working with the Community Leaders on the public infrastructure to help restore and repair this infrastructure and do it in a way that will make it more resilient. The biggest thing here is that this is unprecedented. We have done this before and we had a Disaster Declaration in every state for covid and a busy Hurricane Season and Fire Season and we know how to do this. It will be challenging but we will make it work. Adding to that the federal personnel and National Guardsmen, i am reading a statement from the president who added 500 activeduty troops the National Guardsmen with advanced assets to help and assist with Response And Recovery efforts in North Carolina. There is a lot you are coordinating. He said we will spare no expense as they begin their road to rebuilding and echoing your sentiments but let me ask you about last week. We had the Homeland Security Secretary who made headlines when he warmed warned that fema may not have enough funding to last through the Hurricane Season. Since then members of the right have turned this into a political battleground claiming there isnt enough money because some of it was used on migrants. First of all, is this a false claim . Can you set the record straight . Will fema help current and future Storm Victims . It is absolutely a false claim. The funding we have in the work we are doing is here to support these survivors. Our interests are not impacted by anything going on and in other parts of the government or overseas. We have enough funding for this and one of the things i had been talking about prior to this is because of all of those bills we are paying for Covid 19 in addition to the increase of the number of disasters, we did go into what we call immediate needs funding so we could have enough for the life saving response. And now that i have the full authorization, we have enough to continue to support that. I am in the new one coming in with Hurricane Milton. But without a supplemental as we go through more and more storms, we will see us Go Back into immediate needs funding in the january timeframe. Hurricane helene has become a hotbed for Misinformation Online and Donald Trump has falsely accuse the White House of not properly assisting states in need and how dangerous is this rhetoric . How are these falsehoods affecting fema and its agents out there . It is incredibly disappointing that the loudest voices are doing the least and they are sitting on their couches in their Air Conditioning spreading lies. We are here in the ground working sidebyside in North Carolina but also all of the states impacted helping people recover. Lets talk about this and its been over a week since the hurricane went through the united states and i know you are there when Vice President harris visited and can you give us a real picture of where the recovery stands today . When Vice President harris was here, it was important for her to reassure the government and local leaders that she met with that the federal government will be here to support them through this continued response, which we are in right now but also through the recovery and she had an opportunity to hear firsthand what the situation is on the ground and reinforced with me to make sure the federal family is doing everything we can which is the important piece. Fema is one part of this. While we do bring in all of the partners from across the federal family, we do have thousands of people from Nonprofit Organizations and nongovernmental in the private sector working along the state National Guard to help get this assistance to people. We are still supporting the states with the Search And Rescue efforts and continuing to move commodities into the area as we assess and begin the stabilization of some of these critical lifelines like water and making sure we can sustain this response until this is all restored. There are number of people who remain unaccounted for. Are they still considered Search And Rescue efforts . Or are they focusing on recovery . I think when we talk about the people unaccounted for, a lot of it is still because the communications are degraded. We still havent closed the loop of somebody saying i havent heard from my family member. Maybe they have, and we have not been able to bring full circle. The state has established a re Unification Task Force and we want to see what that picture is so we can focus our efforts where the need is. I think that harris has an edge right now and has momentum. One of the interesting things is we do expect the democrats who turned out strong if i think they will and they will vote 90 or more for harris and Donald Trump on the other hand has a group that is very enthusiastic but also finding there will be a number of republicans who wont vote and just on that basis alone you can see that i think harris has an edge and in terms of those undecided voters a lot of them are young men so not even sure that they will go to the polls and vote but it does appear as though they favor Donald Trump but i think not enough is known about all of the undecideds. I do give her the edge. Do you think those republicans you reference to wont vote for Donald Trump, do you think they wont say so in the polls because look how razor thin they are. They are so close. Do you think they will do something else when they get to the pole . Poll . There is always this thing about i want to be with the tribe. They do remember the national polls are distorting. You have to look at the battlefield polls and when you look at pennsylvania it could come down and i think right now harris has the edge and we will have to see. There are some of these Battleground States where trump may have a little edge where he is losing anothers and it is close. We also are in october so you never know what that surprise will be and it could make a difference ultimately in the race. Right now, again, he has the edge and trying to catch up. You did run against Donald Trump in 2016 and you announced this week that despite being a longtime conservative, you wont be voting for Donald Trump. Where does that leave you come november . In 16 we did have the republican convention in ohio and i didnt go and it made people angry and i wasnt going to vote for him and i thought he was disruptive and in 20 i endorsed Joe Biden. I thought Joe Biden was a link between the two parties that could moderate things. I dont think he has done well at that. For me right now, there is no way i would vote for Donald Trump under any circumstance. But also i am a conservative republican. That is what is great about this channel. They let me have my say and express myself. I look at her policies. A number of them, i dont like. The other things that concerns me are the flipflops she made. We have 30 days to go and i will think about it more and i will decide what i will do but i am very unhappy with the choices i have. But i will see how it turns out. In the end, it will be between me and the Ballot Box. I have endorsed a lot of people including Joe Biden but this time i am uncertain here. Again let me be clear, i wont vote for trump. There is nothing new here and i have been opposed to him for like six years. A lot of the people have joined that club but i was one of the initial members of that club. You were. It was bold and i do remember that. Here edging ahead of, he is leading by four points so still within the margin of error and Donald Trump endorsed him just like he did robinson and he is trailing and we remember the loss of oz in pennsylvania and are his maga pics helping the republican party win the senate . I think when you take that North Carolina race, it is outrageous that the man will still be the republican nominee and crazy. I would say these endorsements, to some degree are overrated and help in the primary and i think his endorsement of Jd Vance helped him win that primary. Will moreno win this race beating brown . I think it depends on the Strength Trump has in ohio. If he wins by a huge margin, i think Bernie Marino will win. If he doesnt, i think Sherrod Brown has a great chance to keep his seat. We will see. The advertisements are on every second and now it is being fought on the air as you expect as we are 30 days out. Let me ask you . Is there a chance for the republican party to return to what it once was . Would it require reinventing itself, or do you think a Maga Gop is here to say whether or not he wins in november . As a conservative i will try to play some role in that to be honest with you. In the republican party, this creates strong economic growth. I did this when we balance the budget and had terrific economic growth and i did the same thing when i was governor. We do know that the formula that makes things work. The issue around tariffs is not something i am really familiar with. We do believe in Fair Trade but we dont believe in all of these tariffs. We believe in orderly immigration. The other thing is that we as political folks or the people who are the intellectuals, we have to listen to what people want. What do they want today . We have a problem with affordable housing or problems when it comes to healthcare and there were many things. Republicans will have to listen to what voters want and dont escape the fundamentals of government as a Last Resort and not a first resort. But when people have a problem, you have to respond and you cant ignore it. When i was governor i would look around the corner. What is it that people may want or need . I think she is really utilized what she had but really focused on trying to get as many voters as possible and we know they are voting in some places but ballots are going out and she is connecting with the voters to make sure they have a better turnout. The Washington Post reports that democrats are trump proving their states in case he comes back to Office And Stockpiling abortion pills and making climate deals and working to protect Marriage Rights and does that indicate how close this races and the real possibility of another term for trump . In 2016 i think if we believe the polls we thought hillary would win that election. It didnt happen. I think it is smart for states to get ahead of this and take this seriously which is the playbook for a second term for trump. There has been no secret about this. I think taking that threat seriously and how extreme that agenda is will be set forth by the gop if trump were to win again is a real issue so i think getting ahead of it and making sure that voters not only know about the extreme nature of this but making sure they can retain their own authority and that situation is smart and interesting because as the gop would tell you they are for states rights but i wonder if they would be in this case but this is really preempting any federal overreach for taking away or stripping away of rights from americans and i think reproductive rights as well as climate change. I think those are issues right now for states and its citizens. Former President Obama is campaigning tuesday and we are told he will continue through Election Day and how critical is he as harris is working for that energy . Who better than Barack Obama to help her get that back together and on the left she is somebody who gets people excited and one of the most popular President S and he gets people to pay attention so anybody who hasnt been paying Attention Hasnt plugged in and gets excited about Barack Obama i think it will be great that they could hear from him directly why its important to vote for president Vice President harris and there will be republicans looking for Sanity And Normalcy and talking about why Vice President harris is a person they should be supporting. This does bring me to the New York Times which has this headline that trumps speeches are increasingly angry and rambling reigniting the question of age and a lot of talk about bidens mental acuity. Has there been enough focus on trump in this way . Chemic can the Harris Campaign highlight this more and could they take the Nikki Haley Quote when she said the first person to get rid of their Aging Candidate will be the one to win the election . I think this is been somewhat exhausted this point by the Harris Campaign part of the Honeymoon Phase and the excitement without her and how young and vibrant she is and how much she can bring to the country. Again i think trump has done enough damage to himself at this point and needs to focus on winning over not only independence or undecideds and disenchanted republicans. I think not only is it great to have obama on the Campaign Trail with her but Liz Cheney and other former republicans going out there to say lets put country over party because i think in the final days leading up to the election, those of the people she needs to talk to.
