Since 1973, at least 200 people have been wrongfully convicted and sentenced to death before a later be exonerated. Everyone deserves the right to due process. As a country, we have to Rise Up and take a hard look at ourselves for continuing to allow the barbaric practice of Capital Punishment to continue. The Murder Rate in nonDeath Penalty states remains consistently lower compared to states with the Death Penalty. Which means the Death Penalty is not even preventing potential murders from being committed. It is not providing justice. We cannot answer murder with murder. I am inclined to agree with you and leader jeffries in terms of the should let the process play itself out. New York Citys most important city of the world and it has real issues, specifically affordable housing the tragedy is that we need a current mayor who can focus on that issue, which is the biggest issue of our time. We will see what happens with the legal system. I dont think the governor should remove him. But we need a mayor who can focus on the critical issue facing the city, specifically affordable housing and others that every day new yorkers have to face. These vp debates do not sway elections but this is a tight race and this could be the last debate of any kind before the election. What will you be looking for on tuesday . Unfortunately, j. D. Vance has this thin resume. He was in the center for about a Year And Half and did nothing. In this platform, he will be exposing that way. He will be unable to really discuss policy at extensive level in terms of what that Administration And Campaign wants to do for america. You also have the fact he seems to be this weird guy, going up against walz, a likable guy. Who set a contrast that will be obvious to american voters who are trying to figure out which Dp Candidate speaks to them. It will be clear to most americans but j. D. Vance is in over his head and he is not a guy who resonates with most of us. Carlos, could this debate make a difference. If so, why . If not, why not . The only way it will make a difference is if one of the two candidates makes major news. That happens as a result of misstatement, something that is clearly out of bounds. I think there is some risk for j. D. Vance because i think he will go on offense. The Chop Campaign senses a lack of momentum after the last debate. I think j. D. Vance will land some blows on Tim Walz with the issues of immigration. Maybe on the issue of crime. There is some risk of for him. I do think the Trump Campaign has to take risk because although this is a close race, a lot of the Polling And Energy in the country reflects the fact that the Harris Campaign has the momentum. First, thank you for having me on today Reverend Sharpton. We are the democratic association of secretaries of state but we do work with the folks who run elections. They have Election Officials in the states around the country. The reason we set up this fund is because we have seen the Trump Stack for Pelican Parties of 2020 and 2022 begin to continue to expand the amount of litigation and lawsuits they are bringing forth to destabilize the democracy. They are less concerned with winning elections at the Ballot Box in november and a lot more conservative trying to win in the courts after the election day. We know this is coming. They have been forecasting and telling us they will take it more broad this election cycle. We thought it was very important to get ahead of this effort and have the financial resources to get our officials the ability to adapt quickly postelection. Yes, we forecasted the four states in our story and launch. We are willing to take this fight and this effort anywhere in the country. While your group is preparing for legal proceedings after the vote, we can see supporters of former President Trump making moves now that appeared to lay the groundwork for possible challenges. Election board dominated by maga a loyalist, recently acquired Poll Workers to count ballots by hand. Possibly leading to massive delays. Even republicans have objected. With one group challenging the requirement and arguing the board is overstepping its legal authority. In mississippi a panel of federal judges that were all appointed by former President Donald Trump heard arguments this week in a case that they could up and the rules for counting mailin ballots that arrive after election day, even if they were cast for november 5th. Let us call it what it is. This is a massive Destabilization Effort to so distrust in our democracy. And disenfranchise voters of color. These are efforts to get rid of vote by mail. Efforts to create precedent in places and better Control Electrical outcomes postelection day. That is exactly what it is. Voters should be concerned. That is why we are watching this effort and if people are curious about anymore i would encourage them to go to state. Org. Mike johnson was asked by Nbc News if he would support certifying elections if Vice President harrod were to beat former resident President Trump. He said if the election was, quote, affair. What you make of that statement . I dont know why Speaker Johnson cannot give a yes or no but i hear a know when i hear the answer to that question. I think that is what you are hearing from Donald Trump and sing the purpose of these litigation cases around the country. They do not care about the results. They want to take the vote away from people i think that is what we should say about it. Earlier this evening, at his rally in wisconsin, trump noted that he would prosecute people will that, quote, cheat on this election. And that, quote, we will go back to the last one too if we are allowed. Your group is ready to write this election in court, if necessary. I wonder about the consequences if it comes to that. Trump did not win any of the five dozen legal challenges he filed in 2020. Yet, he falsely convinced millions of his supporters the results were fraudulent. Are you worried about the effect on our democracy should trump claimant, once again, the election was stolen, even if his arguments do not succeed in court . That is why i would argue it is more important this election cycle. We know he will save election was stolen. We know these fights are coming what our goal is to make sure we have financial resources and assistance in place to provide support so that these officials can adapt as quickly as possible to what will be a wide array of threats. I think there is a ton of concern with voters and activists around the country and people are prepared to fun efforts like this to make sure people do have the resources to push back.
