Welcome back to the weekend, we began with Breaking News out of The Middle East. Hezbollah has now confirmed israel killed its longtime leader. Just last hour the spokesperson for the israeli military confirmed that. His killing under the command of, Choice Chuck chose to join the war that hamas started. There are consequences for that decision. Aaron mcglocklin is live in tel aviv. Bring us up to speed on the latest list our. Symone, around 6 00 yesterday evening, a massive explosion rocked the city of beirut and minutes later, israeli officials were Briefing Members of the press that he was the target of an israeli airstrike on a residential building. They were saying that the Command And Control headquarters for hezbollah was located under then the building. And there was a question whether they had carried out the assassination effectively. They released the Audio Exchange between the Fighter Pilot who carried out the attack and his commander moments after the airstrike was carried out. I want you to take a listen to the exchange. [ speaking in a global language ] reporter there was a briefing with a Briefing And Andrea mitchell pressed this official, will this mean a ceasefire, she asked, but they say when your guy is down you keep going. Israel remains on high alert for retaliatory strikes. Joining us by phone is chief Washington Correspondent andrea mitchell, andrea, lets pick up on what erin was just talking about , that briefing, what more can you tell us . They said they are in an existential war for their survival, the Supreme Leader has a timetable of eliminating israel by 2040 and this was and Hassan Nasrallah was the linchpin to the continuation of the plan because they have the best arms, they had muscles, thousands and thousands of missiles, which we know, american officials had said that they had muscles, and they were the biggest Military Force they could attack. He went on to say that this started on October 8th and as you know, there was back and forth and they made the decision by the cabinet that they had to get people back into their homes, 65 to 70,000 people have been evacuated from northern israel beginning on October 8th. Theres a enormous political pressure on the Benjamin Netanyahu government to get them back into their homes. Initially, to get them back into their homes by the beginning of The School year, that didnt work but as we are approaching the jewish new year, theres even more pressure to do something and this, i should note, the Benjamin Netanyahu leadership, the right wing leadership, the ministers in the cabinet are united with the defense minister. He on the record, told us a month ago, here and notify the americans about two weeks ago, that they now decided that that option was the only option but No One expected the amount of firepower that was leveled against beirut. So the u. S. Mobile eyes, trying to organize and organizing france and the European Allies this week in New York for a Ceasefire Plan, there was a misunderstanding about that, and there was no Agreement Israel says, to go along with the Ceasefire Plan and i asked about that specifically. The briefing came right after the Speech Or Couple of hours after the speech by Benjamin Netanyahu at the United Nations. And it was after he finish that speech that this attack on beirut which did eliminate a number of people in the command central and now they have confirmed Hassan Nasrallah but the briefer said that Hassan Nasrallah was the linchpin to all this because he was the leader of hezbollah and has been for 30 or more years and hezbollah has been the leading Terror Organization among the palestinians. And in terms of what they were going to do, this briefer said you dont stop, he said that when you have momentum against the enemy, you dont stop so this is continuing but he said they would not be able to confirm immediately whether they had gotten nasrallah. I said this getting him mean that you could go for a Cease Fire and he said no, we have to continue and he said sometimes it takes weeks of no or sometimes you know right away whether you have gotten a target, he pointed out last month, they had gotten a leader and didnt know for weeks, he said you may know right away or you may not know yet and thats how we left it in New York. Yesterday you spoke with both Secretary Blinken and the un ambassador greenfield, we want to play a part of your interview with linda thomas greenfield. The president of course has made clear that we do not want to see the situation in The Middle East escalate. We dont want to see a full blown war in The Middle East so yes, we are concerned about the situation. We have urged the iranians who have been proactively engaged with supporting antiisrael elements that they should cease those actions. But israel has a right to Self Defense and weve been clear about israels right to defend itself should it be direct we attacked by the iranians. How concerned are u. S. Officials about iran retaliated against israel for attacks on the lebanese proxies and assassinating the leader of hamas. How do u. S. Officials feel about the fact that israels not giving them a heads up, you had the secretary of Defense Yesterday pointedly saying that they did not know in advance what israel was planning to do. Thats correct and Secretary Blinken has said that as well. After the israeli briefing, i raced down to the lincoln news conference, which was starting about 15 minutes later, and asked him, i read my notes on the Israeli Briefer on the targeted Assassination Attempt in the fact that they would not stop, even if they got him, and he basically answered, we still prefer diplomatic solution. There is a real breach year, and there is concern i think on both sides, that there such a disconnect between israel and the Benjamin Netanyahu government. As i say, the day before israel began this new attack, the Air Attack against hezbollah in lebanon which they say was in retaliation for continuing the backandforth attacks, the day before, it was monday, two weeks ago tomorrow. There was a meeting between hochstein and the defense minister, trying to negotiate some sort of agreement, a Cease Fire, a withdrawal of troops, and at that point, they said they will have to take Military Action but they ever said exactly what they were going to do and it was the next day that they began this intensifier power. What we were told was that they discovered tunnels, along the border, with northern israel from hezbollah, and in every home there were weapons hidden and in the tunnels, there were rockets, rpgs, all kinds of other military equipment, so that they were afraid, they said, of an eminent attack similar to October 7th two what sinwar had done a year ago. But its very clear that they did not know about the pagers or the leader assassinated, none of us have been communicated to the u. S. In advance and its very clear that this is one of the worst situations, one of the worst relationships between u. S. And its closest ally. The biggest foreign supplier, to have this kind of a diplomatic breakdown in a relationship is pretty serious. Andrea mitchell, thank you as always, the best in the business when it comes to the sourcing. Which is 38 days until Election Day and some states are already voting, the dnc is putting the focus On Critical Down ballot races. For the first time in history, the committee has sent money to every State And Territory in the country this cycle. The latest investment totaling nearly 2. 5 Million is to help State Parties break republican Super Majorities in deep red states and strengthen Voter Engagement efforts across the u. S. Joining us now is jamie harrison. I think this is a function of you having been a State Party Chair yourself and because you were a State Party Chair previously, you know what it feels like to not have resources, to get a little bit of resources from the party and you know the difference it can make. I think this historic investment speaks for itself. Thank you for that, symone, and i hope the streets are talking about the fact that we have done this type of investment for the entirety of my tenure as chair of the dnc. Remember, last cycle, the dnc in the midterms, part of the reason we beat back the Red Wave was because we invested in all of our State Parties. We put 45 Million in direct support during the midterms into our State Parties. Symone, that is 52 more than what we did in 2017 and 2018. 52 more in terms of direct support to allState Parties regardless if you are a red state, purple state or a blue state. So im proud of what weve built up and the reason why weve been able to do it is because of the support of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. These are two individuals who, even when they were not on the ballot, they went out and helped to fund raise, to give us at the dnc some of the financial support to put back into State Parties. I believe that we are stronger as a party national, a lot of people want to compare this year to 2016. Its very different. Weve been able to put more resources on the ground into our State Parties, and im proud because we are doing tribal investments, all kinds of things to go into communities that we have not always gone into before, and therefore, we will be stronger going into a very, very close president ial election. Lets talk about what that map could look like. You have big investments in texas and Florida Senate races. I believe theres a bit of a conceit in there which is concern about the montana senate race. Talk a little about that at also, if you think you can add nebraska to that list to texas and florida. Well again, remember, on top of the investments that we made to State Parties, a few weeks ago, we announced a 25 Million transfer from the dnc to the d triple c. The senate, are human toro races, we are going to compete everywhere for montana to ohio to florida, to texas, to missouri. All of the states have races that are really crucial at this point, and i believe, you know, i am bullish on florida but also bullish on texas, on already is running a Textbook Campaign in texas right now and ted cruz, he is scared. You see that Rick Scott is running scared because Debbie Powell is also running a great campaign, and you know, the fact is, the republicans, the maga republicans have ticked off the haitians, venezuelans, abortion is on the ballot, cannabis is on the ballot and for the first time in 30 years theres a democrat running in every congressional State House and state senate seat. So we have been doing these things, putting all of these blocks together, to get us to this point where we can compete everywhere. Im telling the republicans right now. We are not ceding ground to you anywhere from nebraska to maine, to alaska. We are going to fight all over. And we know if the Vice President says, when we fight, we win. Alicea wrote nebraska down before you set up. In nebraska, not just winning the blue dot, if you will, thats on the table for either Vice President Harris Or Donald trump but theres a congressional seat there, Tony Vargas is the democratic Candidate Running against don bacon, and theres a Senate Candidate and an independent Senate Candidate that seems to be surging. Do you think there is potential for a trifecta in the races i just laid out . Symone, guess what round headed chair from certain party is going to be in nebraska on october fifth mac. This one. Im going to be right there in nebraska, working with the Nebraska Democratic Party because again, this is what happens when you invest everywhere, when you just dont listen to conventional wisdom that says thats a red state, lets not invest any resources. We have the right type of party leadership, we understand what is at stake and we are going to be there to make sure that we provide the support to win these very close elections. We saw some polling that came out of the congressional district that saw some of the general polling in nebraska for the senate race, where we are and where we stand in terms of that one electoral college vote. When you compete, then the other side has to bring it. And i know that they didnt intend to invest any resources into defending nebraska but now they have to. Melissa barry and i have a special Coming Out About Black Women In America and before the dnc we spoke to, bishop daughtry, yolanda caraway. I want to play what she had to say about envisioning a black woman as the president and get your response on the other side. If we want to believe that this democracy needs to be saved then we have to be participants in it and we cant continue to use the narrative that black Man Wont show up because its a female. What is true in my humble opinion is that we have to change how men see women, and we have to give them the visual of a commander in chief and i believe that Vice President harris has done that quite well. I thought hillary had done it quite well so we still have to push because if we blink, people will see something different because theyve never seen it before. And i think its up to Black Women, white men, i think its up to asians, lgbtq communities, how do you envision a woman as president . Jamie, these record investments are historic, and this is going to be a race that is decided on the margins. Men are an important part of that, Black Men especially, latino man, what do you say, what do you say to the notion that all of this effort is great but theres still a little bit more to be done. Theres always work to be done but you know, Minyon Hit it right, she is my sister in the struggle, but ive been giving people the vision of what their hard work needs. Ive been painting this picture, symone, imagine January 20th we are in washington, d. C. , its Martin Luther King day. Its inauguration, we are at the capitol, a building built by the hands of slaves and and then theres a woman, a black and asian descent, standing on the stage, putting her hand on the bible, lifting the other Hand And Swearing to protect the united States Constitution of the united states. Kamala harris becoming the 47th president of the united states. That doesnt have to be submitted or fable, that can be the reality if we do what Michelle Obama said, which is, do something, we need to knock on doors, pick up the phone, we need to send in money, do something, and we can make that a reality and by making that a reality, we will have somebody in the White House who will fight for All Of Us, Black Men, white men, Black Women, latinos, asians, All Of Us deserve somebody who will fight for us and Kamala Harris will do just that. Jamie harrison, Painting A very powerful picture. Thank you so much. Next, the fight to hold Trump Accountable for his role in subverting the 2020 election despite the supreme courts immunity ruling. Special Counsel Jack Smith just laid out his case for Still Prosecuting Trump for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election despite the immunity ruling. They filed a field legal brief this week containing evidence and testimony from his offices twoyear investigation. Its up to the judge to decide how much, if any of the brief, will be released to the public. Joining us is andrew wiseman, cohost of the Podcast Prosecuting Donald Trump. Also with us his former southern district of New York criminal Division Deputy Chief kristi greenberg. We have too much to cover, tell me what you think is in this sealed document and if you think Judge Chutkan will unseal it. Theres a brief and an appendix. What we want is the appendix. What we know from the filing by Jack Smith is that the brief has some quotes from the appendix material, and that is likely to be unsealed, i would say you would have to wait for what Donald Trump is going to say that that is teed up to be first decided. What will that tell us . Thatll be a lot of legal stuff which we are all going to be about like okay, thats interesting, but its really going to be the parts where it says the quote from the appendix material. Heres bad news, with respect to the appendix, the Jack Smith filing said they had sought to keep not public everything in the appendix. So what will be key, the thing im keeping my eye on is the quote that might be in the legal brief, the first thing. And that, we may see relatively soon. We need to see the appendix. We really do. We need the appendix, kristi. When the thing gets unsealed, can we talk about Eric Adams . You come from the southern district of New York. Would they bring an indictment like this without evidence and i want to be clear, i read the indictment, so i just dont understand from a communications perspective, to see the mayor giving a Press Conference that morning. The indictment had been unsealed by then. I didnt understand it but you tell me whats going on. The southern district of New York is not going to prosecute the mayor of New York without rocksolid evidence. There were 57 pages where you see messages between mayor adams and you know, new York City Fire Department officials, hey, get that building open, even though its a safety hazard, get it open and a few minutes later, hes talking to the turkish officials, hey, im getting it done for you. It is in writing. They also have witnesses they said Eric Adams directed me to get these from Circus Nationals , they said go ahead, delete messages, i always do, i mean, it was really, i think, a very detailed indictment on purpose so that all of New York can see the evidence and just how strong it is, hes clearly engaged in corruption here. Looking at how far back it goes, it goes back to when he was the Brooklyn Borough President in 2015. And you look at how this foreign interference works, that the Turkish Government was looking at him as an easy mark early on. They played a long game and ultimately he proved to be the useful idiot that they wanted, whenever they needed to call in a favor to have something done the way they wanted, he did it. Five charges, i anticipate that you are anticipating him a super siding indictment. The fact that they did a search of Gracie Manor on the same day. That tells you that they are not looking for what was unusual with the lead prosecutor, when he announced this, is he said there will be additional cases going forward. That sort of definitive statement is extremely unusual. Talk about that choice in sequencing to say we already have this so we are going to proceed with these charges knowing that its unusual to say, to have Damien Williams out there saying, anticipate more. Yeah, why do it like that . I can think of one timing reason. Sometimes you bring charges and you continue the investigation but one reason to bring it at the time they did was because the United Nations general assembly. If you think of this case in connection with the enormous work that the national Security Division has done in the past few weeks where they are bringing cases against whether its russia or other foreign countries, and now this, its a way of sending a message and especially with the United Nations general assembly, they are saying, we will not tolerate this. Erdogan waited to press send i guess, until he left the country, youre someone who comes from the department, what quite possibly, bring us inside, what people could be thinking about, what are the kind of conversations that would be happening right now and im wondering, who is running City Hall because lots of people keep resigning. Who is at work besides the mayor. I thought the statements that were made from Damien Williams were incredibly strong where he says, this isnt about the right and the left, this is about right and wrong. Because when you have mayor adams getting up there and saying i am targeted because of my political statements, my views on migrants coming into new York City. Thats just nonsense. He also said that he was targeted because he is a Black Man but Damien Williams is a Black Man. This investigation started in 2021, well before a large number of migrants were coming into new York City. This has nothing to do with mayor adams political views, this is solely about the fact that you know, he was engaged in pretty blatant corruption. When he was Brooklyn Borough President , theres not a very large turkish population in brooklyn and hes giving Press Conferences about all the trips hes taking to brooklyn. He made it very clear, something is off here, so its not surprising that prosecutors would have started looking at this. Sending a strong message when the un general assembly is happening because look back three years, three years ago, is when the turkish president was opening the turkish consulate, the High Rise building, there was the Big Show of it and three years later, theres a prosecution in connection with Eric Adams, allowing that building to open even though it was a safety hazard, so there is some symmetry here. I think that is symbolic an important and its important i think, for the u. S. Attorneys office to really come out and say, we are not going to tolerate this kind of blatant corruption, when the whole world is watching, when the un general assembly is happening. Can we talk a lot about the governess crisis. The challenge of Eric Adams being an executive. That is what you are seeing for the people who are saying that he should resign. In many ways, people sort of confuse the Presumption Of Innocence with the privilege of holding office. The Presumption Of Innocence is incredibly important evidence with the fact with Mayor Bill diblasio its different whether you should have the privilege of serving in office, so the issue is whether he can continue to do remember, he is a public servant, i mean, there is no right to be there if you are not able to do your job fully. I think you see that in a statement by the governor saying that her concern right now, its impossible to think that this is not so distracting that hes going to continue to be able to serve. But he has so many, as you pointed out, there are so many people who have now left government because of the ongoing investigation. Eric adams said that he is not resigning and he didnt do it. Thank you both so much. Next, Vice President Harris Nagy is a huge endorsement from a national Law Enforcement group. You are watching the weekend. Td. Police leaders for Community Safety in nonpartisan national group of Law Enforcement officers endorse Vice President harris this week saying their support supports her Track Record and unwavering commitment to the rule of law. This comes as new data shows violent crime rates dropped across the country for the third straight year. Joining us now, retired Wisconsin Sheriff and former president of the Sheriffs Association Dave mahoney, hes the board of Police Leaders for Community Safety. Can you just break down for folks at home, how your group differs from other police groups, your group is the Police Leaders for Community Safety. The distinction, and what drove you to this endorsement . Well thank you and good morning to you and your viewers. Thanks for the invitation to join you today. Police leaders for Community Safety is comprised of police executives, Police Chiefs around the country, who have gathered because of the need to change legislation and strengthen laws within the books, and bring our community, our nation, together. That was the impetus of the formation of our team. Many of us have worked together our entire careers. And as a result, we were formed in 2021, formally announced in 2022. And made our endorsement here just a couple of weeks ago as a result of our candidate assessment immunity, making that recommendation, and recommending it to the board. Sheriff, i want to understand more about what that assessment look like especially given what you know, that you were up against when you look at american voters and their perception of which of these candidates is tougher on crime. This is from our nbc News Poll View of candidates on the issues, harris, 41 , trump 47 on the question of crime. What do you say to those 47 of voters who believe that Donald Trump is better than Kamala Harris on this question of tackling crime in the united states. Police leaders for Community Safety have three pillars, priorities, as we look at our priorities among federal elected officials. We look for Community Safety first. Crime within our communities, the increased Gun Violence occurring across our country, we saw another example of that in the past week. Improving policing in the profession and that as a whole, if you look at recruiting, theres not a Law Enforcement agency, local, state or federal that isnt looking for the best men and women of character to carry out this job, that is one of our priorities. And an increase in technology, the needs for improving technology, and accountability. You know the fact that Law Enforcement is not a career for everybody, but everybody in the profession is held to a high standard. Thats the expectation of Law Enforcement leaders and its the expectations that is of the communities we serve and ensuring the rule of law, protecting public processes, making sure that another January 6th does not occur in our nation and looking for a smooth transition of power at the conclusion of not only the selection of the election of president. But national order of police has endorsed president trump. Im just wondering, the fact that trump has all these legal issues. He is saying that hes going to be a dictator on day one. Like arbys not to mention the insurrection that many, myself included, believe that his words and actions helped fuel on January 6th. Are folks within the Law Enforcement community, are they talking about that . The leaders and the people that you work with, and the Law Enforcement leadership that has endorsed Vice President harrison tim walz, they seem to get that but if you look across the country, there seems to be in some respects a little bit of a divide on where Law Enforcement is standing in this election and from the outside looking in, some folks may be confused by that. Well, i think we all, in Law Enforcement believe that this isnt a profession for everybody. Policing Law Enforcement, whether its a police department, sheriffs office, whether its a federal agency, it requires men and women of high character and values. You know, if we go back to the 21st century policing, Building Trust and legitimacy and our communities, it carries forth today, and its one of the priorities that Police Leaders for Community Safety continues to carry forward, and Police Leaders for Community Safety, which is comprised of chiefs, sheriffs, Executive Levels of police agencies, theyve identified three priorities and thats what we are using to identify the candidates that we will move forward in our endorsements, and exactly why we have indoors Kamala Harris to be the next president of the united states. Dave mahoney, thank you so much for your time this morning. We appreciate it. Thank you very much. Next up, second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, and his conversation with Jen Psaki. This is the weekend. Beca use it lds the to defend against erosion and cavities. I think that this product is a gamechanger for my patients. Try pronamel mouthwash. bounce back fast from heartburn with Tums Gummy bites, and Love Food back. second Gentleman Doug Emhoff sat down for a wide ranging interview with our own Jen Psaki. Heres a bit of their conversation. For me, its the right thing to do, you know, support women, its mutual like with kamala and i, we support each other. I cant tell you how many people come up to me, a lot of guys, and its always like wow, seeing you do what youre doing, step away from this career that you love so much and doing it gladly and throwing yourself into it, its inspiring my wife or partner, to go get that promotion, to run for office. I really appreciate Doug Emhoff, the second gentleman, its so interesting, because his background has nothing to do with politics. He was an Entertainment Lawyer for a long time and met a lady that was in politics, the Attorney General of california at the time, and that was how he made his way into the political world. She ran for senate and then she became the Vice President and hes been thrust into this world but has really made his mark, not only on showing up as a strong and supportive husband but also on the issue Anti Semitism. Its interesting to me the sharp contrast between how you are seeing Kamala Harris and her Family Show up for her in this campaign, actively be a part of this campaign, and what we are seeing now from the trump campaign, where he does not have his wife with him. Alicia, she aint been on the Campaign Trail. Where is melania . If Michael Steele were here he would turn to the camera. Can i just say, your Michael Steele impersonation, where your impersonation is lacking, he would look directly at the camera, he would call her honey booboo. Yell have to wait until tomorrow. Stark contrast, shes not been on the Campaign Trail and meanwhile, the second gentleman is an integral part of this campaign. No one knows him, No One who knows the Vice President better than Doug Emhoff. Theres No One that has seen her in the toughest situations and the most vulnerable moments, they can speak to just to she is then Doug Emhoff and the work that hes done on Anti Semitism at a time where the issue is front and center, and he is using his platform in a way as the first jewish second gentleman of the united states to elevate the issue and bring people together. Hats off. Im getting these Poll Numbers and. Likely voters New York times, siena, this is out today, wisconsin, harris at 49 and trump at 47. And in nebraskas second district, harris at 52 and Donald Trump at 43. Thats the part that raised symones eyebrows. This looks close, the nebraska numbers, i dont believe them. Its a close election, folks, okay . Im sending you home to find out what the streets are saying. We want to go to nebraska.
