And so, on behalf of all across our nation who want to see these problems solved, i say we cannot accept Donald Trumps failure to lead. We should not permit scapegoating. Instead of solutions. I have long called on Attention And Response to the crisis here, but also to focus it on our Border Communities and on the need for us to act both at the Executive Level but also at the congressional level because it is personal for me. My grandfather was a Customs Officer in brownsville responsible for the gateway bridge. Everybody in texas in brownsville now switch bridge that is and that is where my mom was born and raised in where i spent a lot of my childhood so i know that our Border Communities are real places and they bear the brunt of our in action and so i am glad to see more Executive Action being proposed, but this has to be done congressionally, as well, and that is where the bipartisan Border Bill t in the senate that Ted Cruz helped take down becomes really an important point of discussion because there was 20 Billion for Border Security in that bill. For more immigration judges, for more administrative personnel but also for more Border Patrol agents and for technology to catch fentanyl coming across the border. That is what we need to do. The Issue here is that was the bill a lot of republicans didnt like. A lot of democrats did not like. That is the nature of this difficult work in congress. Donald trump runs away from the fact that he was responsible for killing that bill because there are a lot of republicans who would rather run on the problem of border Issues than solutions to border Issues. Thats right. I just was in South Texas visiting some of my friends there and i will tell you, it is kind of a joke that Ted CruzIse L Thutdown to South Texas and puts on his outdoor clothes and you know, tries to look tough and then goes back to washington and does nothing at all to. I mean, it is becoming just a joke and that dont come down and say we need to do these things then go and stop us from actually doing those things in your job as a senator. We have folks to point out problems. We have Border Patrol agents working as hard as they can. One of the concerns ive had for them is that we are increasingly seeing Mental HealthIssues within the Border Patrol because they are being asked to work overtime and sometimes away from home and experiencing all the stress that comes along with that is a workforce that is why this now that wouldve hired more Border Patrol agents is so important. Its not enough to talk about an Issue. s people expect you to solve it and when you are from these communities like my family is, the in action become something that is just unacceptable. To what you attribute the fact that this in action has been for so long. This continues to be a big Issue for americans regardless of where you stand on it. Most people seem to agree we our country. We have a border and we should be able to maintain what goes on at that border, who comes in, what comes in, what stays out and who stays out. Yes. You mentioned that democrats and republicans had Issues with the bill been assessed in the senate. Not really, actually. This was just the Enforcement Side of our Border Security but none of the reforms for theis Immigration System that we know we also have to do so honestly to fix this, we have to get folks in there who want to solve it, as he said, instead of just having the problem to run on and i do think in the back of their minds and i know this is true for Ted Cruz, his thinking if we had actually put these billions of dollars into Border Security, what would i have talked about in the election because that is my main Issue i am trying to run on and that has to be so outrageous for every texan that you would put yourself in your reelection over what is best for our state. I really dont think this is hat complicated. They put together this bill. This is a very hard thing to do to get people to agree on this and they do the hard work and then there is no question that Donald Trump killed this bill so it would help him, so just think about it from a moral viewpoint. It doesnt matter whether they are legally here, on vacations in springfield, whether they are illegal here, they are against them because this is essentially coming down to a racial Issue and by The Way, they dont talk about immigration from asia were people overstay their visas. Theyre talking about black and brown people from central and south america, so that is what this really comes down to. I have to say, though, i was really struck by Kamala Harris. She is leaning in to her role as a prosecutor and treating it like it is, which is ola legal enforcement Issue. She sounds much tougher than biden never did, and much tougher than a lot of democrats have and i think this is recognition by the democrats that they can be supportive of reforming our system, but they also have to be responsible for very legitimate concerns about the border and frankly, i think this is a good turn for the democrats. It is toward the center. It is likely to appeal to people in the middle, and i give her some kudos because im sure there are people in her party who are not comfortable with this. Politically, it is wise in the long run to distinguish between Border Security in the process of getting potential migrants through the system, illegal immigration, which we need much more of because of our economic growth. E we look past this election if we can get past obstructionists like Donald Trump and others in the republican party, this can, as jennifer says, once again become a bipartisan Issue that we can actually solve. What does that look like to you, and you think there is will in the republican party if guys like trump are not standing in The Way of Immigration Reform to get this done in a bipartisan fashion . He signed a bill in 1986 to let everyone who had been in the country before 1984 be legal. His last speech was a note to immigration and immigrants. That is what it looks like. Now, the problem is that this is not a trump Issue. It is what the republican party has become. I mean, the antitrump element of the republican party is just tiny, and they are not what when trump loses, which i think he is, i think is going to lose badly, theyre not going to rush to solve this. Theyre going to continue to demagogue on it and continue to use it as a hot Issue'>Button Issue in campaigns and that is a real tragedy. C jen, from reagan through to george w. Bush, the republican position on immigration was never this. As recently as the 20152016 republican primary you had republican prime candidates who were discussing immigration in a much more traditional sense despite the fact that this is been a failure to inform immigration for a long time there were conversations going on about immigration in the republican party as recently as that. It seems to be gone. It really doesnt in 2013 when they passed that bill, if passed overwhelmingly in the senate but good old paul ryan, who everyone thinks is a pro business moderate guy did not have the nerve to put it on the floor. Basically, the democratsrw in T House chickened out. The republicans chickened out and the bill went nowhere, and Ted Cruz did nothing and by The Way, marco rubio, the senator from florida, who continually complains about immigration, just dropped it. He ran from it like a hot potato so, this is one suggestion i would have for colin harris, and that is, if republicans again try to filibuster it, and she should try to reform the filibuster on this Issue, not on some kind of very progressive Issue that is controversial. Let her do this and say to the american people, the senator stopping Border Security. Im going to get this done and carve out an exception to the Filibuster Reform because that is where the problem is. They can get a majority in the house. They can probably get a bipartisan group in the senate, but if you have to getm 16 vot is not going to fly, not in this republican party. But, isntth it an overwhelmingly bipartisan Issue across the country. It is. The idea of fixing immigration on all its fronts, been able to get more immigrants, being able to control the border, all of that is heavily bipartisan. There are some in my country who would instead force ukraine to give up large parts of its sovereign territory. Who would demand that ukraine accept neutrality, and would require ukraine to forgo Security Relationships with other nations. These proposals are the same as those of putin, and let us be clear. They are not proposals for peace. Instead, they are proposals for surrender. Which is dangerous, and unacceptable. Sometimes you and i have parsed some of the things Donald Trump has said but i think watching him standing there with what a zelenskyy by his side, since he threw what a zelenskyy under the bus while he was president long before this war, and saying the things he said about how zelenskyy said it was a perfect call about how he enjoys a really good relationship with Vladimir Putin and that last comment he made about how It Takes Two To Tango, i think that tells you a lot about Donald Trump and the weird games he plays in the lies he tells with no shame. The thing that struck me about that is before you even get to ukraine is just how terrible a negotiator mr. Trump is. You never say that you are in a hurry if you are a negotiator. That is Mistake Number one and if you are in a hurry, you pretend that youre not worse trump is promising to do something quite quickly, which means that if you really were negotiating, putin could do whatever he wanted and forced trump to try to make a good deal and the second thing you never do in negotiating is make all of your concessions in advance. As far as we know, or at least judging by reliable Trump Surrogates like vance or hungarys or bond orban, it trumps strategy is to concede on all of russias points. These things are concerning before you get to the things hes trying to drag Zelenskyy Into. Lets talk about those because lot a zelenskyy, he has turned out to be a remarkably creative leader. There are people who in the early days of the war thought he was in over his skis. He was not prepared for his work and it continues. Heres what trump said in North Carolina about what a zelenskyy. A deal could have been made if we had a competent president instead of a president that i did all on. On the Biden And Kamala allowed this to happen by Feeding Zelenskyy money and munitions like no country has ever seen before. Every time he came to our country, he would walk away with 60 million. Its probably the greatest salesman on earth. This was on wednesday. Today is friday. Two days ago he was calling zelenskyy the greatest salesman on earth, a huckster, essentially, for being able to squeeze this kind of money out of the united states and now, hes talking about he hopes they have a good relationship. Help me interpret this. First of all, you just have to notice that it has been a pretty antisemitic week for trump, just by The Way. So yeah, the thing which troubles me the most is that i really think every American Political Leader including trump ought to be starting with statements of respect for the ukrainians. Ukrainians are not a problem for us. They are a solution. Theyre holding back a country which we regard as a problem. They are determined deterring china and preserving World Order by resisting an invasion which was designed to disrupt that World Order. Theyre doing all kinds of things for us and i think it behooves everybody, republican or democrat, to begin with some words of respect rather than try to turn everything around to talk about how the war was somehow the ukrainians fault. The ukrainians are suffering in the largest war in europe since 1945 and in their suffering, which is on a huge scale, there doing things which we are helping with a little bit on the margin. I think we had to be respectful. We had to start in that tone rather than try to make ourselves big. Vladimir zelenskyy after the meeting with trump, tweeted, we share the common view that the war in ukraine must be stopped. That is some pretty creative language because that is about all they share on the war in ukraine. From the Putin Side of things, what is all the signaling from Donald Trump . Is it a Negotiating Position or is it doing Putins Bidding . The last thing you said is clearly 100 true. It has been unambiguous in the russian media for more than a year, the entire russian politics of all of this is just trying to stay in the war long enough until trump comes and rescues them. In contradiction to what mr. Trump said, the ukrainians have fought incredibly well and if they had received better support we could have put this war to an end in the good sense a while ago. The one thing keeping the russians in the war our fears in the White House and then their only hope, which is that mr. Trump wins, so when mr. Trump signals weakness, and when he signals anticipatory submission like you signaling now, he is giving the kremlin what the kremlin hopes for and expects. Part of the problem is, there are still some americans for whom this is not central to their decisionmaking, and in this particular instance, it is not just about less support for ukraine if Donald Trump were to win. It is less support for the biggest and most successful global Military Alliance in the history of the world, which is nato. That is certainly true. I think it goes deeper than that. It is about whether one believes that there should be a World Order based on lies or whether one is totally indifferent to the violation of those laws. Do we care about borders . Do we care about annexations, do we care about genocide or do we want to put our power on the side of people who are trying to stand up for those things. Im not really sure what he is thinking about, but one thing i am thinking about are the voters in ohio who have overwhelmingly decided theyre going to choose freedom. Theyre going to choose opportunity to decide what to do with their bodies and not one of our politicians to eject themselves into their most personal decisionmaking. Im running against a person who also said people did not know what they were doing when they voted for their own freedom and i think that is just wrongs weve seen time and time again, as you just mentioned, state after state believes in freedom, the freedom to choose, to make your decisions, to not have politicians involved in those most intimate Decision Making [ inaudible ] i have to ask you it could be beneath our dignity to have this conversation but be need to have it because Donald Trump says stuff like what he said on monday. He said you will be protected, to women, and i will be your protector. What do you make of that . I dont believe it. Im going to believe that women in my state, the women in my district and the women across this country who have made it very clear they want their reproductive rights to be protected. We saw with the former president did. He bragged about the dobbs decision. He bragged about getting rid of Roe V. The New York times reports that Jared Kushners investment firm, affinity partners, has been paid at least 112 Million in fees since 2021 by Saudi Arabia and other foreign investors, even though as of july, it had not yet returned any profit to the governments, largely bankrolling the firm. At least 99 of the roughly 3 Billion invested came from overseas sources including 2 Billion from the saudi governments public Investment Fund. A Senate Finance Committee investigation found that Jared Kushners firm, which is called affinity partners, has only invested about one third of the assets and manages, charging fees on billions of dollars that have not been invested and are not generating returns. The Senate Finance Committee chairman wrote this, quote, affinities investors may not be motivated by commercial considerations but rather the opportunity to funnel foreign Government Money to members of President Trumps family, namely Jared Kushner and ivanka trump. Affinities failure to deploy capital in a timely fashion while charging excessive fees has reinforced my view that affinity is likely part of a Compensation Scheme involving u. S. We can no longer wait to hold the commissioners accountable for their shady dealings. Our democracy is not for sale, and we need to ask ourselves the question, why did Jared Kushner receive 2 Billion for an Investment Fund just months after leaving the White House . What do you believe may be happening here in this deal with Jared Kushner and his essentially new firm, affinity partners, which got this remarkable contract to invest money on behalf of the government of Saudi Arabia . Thank you. Lets first start with the facts. We note that Jared Kushner was President Trumps, his father inlaw, Wesley Divisor on a lot of policy. We know Secretary Of State at the time to listen the post which kushners prosaudi engagements. There was a lot of concern from the State Department from foreignpolicy advisers about Jareds Closeness to the saudi government. We also know just months after leaving the White House, jared gets 2 Billion for his Investment Fund and yet to this day has not made a single penny back for the saudis. This is really serious. You match that with the other, what i think is clear corruption on the trump side, the Trump Organization basically funneling millions of dollars from foreign governments to Truck Properties. We have receipts of this. We have evidence of all of these millions from places like china, from qatar, from Saudi Arabia, being paid to the Trump Organization in depth, there is no investigation because republicans want to cover it up. The screams of something really bad happening, corruption happening and we should demand transparency and answers. I want to read further from the letter that Senate Finance Committee chairman Rob Wyden wrote to Jared Kushners firm about the timing of these investments. Affinities Investment Agreements with various foreign governments are set to expire right in the middle of a potential second term for former President Trump. Since affinity is wholly owned by Jared Kushner, this creates a situation where the government of Saudi Arabia, qatar, and uae will have significant leverage over the Trump Family should they threatened to pull their investments and stop paying millions of dollars in fees to kushner, and concomitantly, trumps daughter, ivanka. A potential Future Trump Administration will have financial motives to make Policy Decisions that may be counter to the national interest in order to ensure Kushner And Ivanka trump continue to collect millions of dollars in fees from foreign governments through affinity. Tell me about this, the idea that we are now in a situation where not only does Jared Kushner potentially benefit from the fact that he is Donald Trumps soninlaw, but in fact there may be a pivotal moment if Donald Trump were to win again, in which these governments then have leverage over Donald Trumps family. I think first we know Donald Trump likes to cozy up to authoritarian governments. We know the saudis, qatar, the uae have all funneled millions and millions of dollars into Truck Properties while trump was president. In my opinion and many others, breaking the Emollients Clause of the constitution and yet republicans are choosing to not investigate this fully. You tie that with this Investment Fund and the terms which basically and in a possible trump presidency, we have a very dangerous situation where the commissioners could walk away making millions and millions of dollars to extend their coziness and close List Closeness to saudis and other authoritarian dictatorships. This is what Donald Trump and his family continue to do and what they did during the presidency. They are trying to profit off the presidency and the fact that Jared Kushner has not made a penny for investors should be ringing huge Alarm Bells in washington, d. C. But of course republicans on the Oversight Committee and Donald Trump himself would have nothing to do with what needs to be an important investigation.
