Georgia with heavy rains, powerful winds, severe flooding, keeping people from florida to tennessee and the carolinas on alert. Embattled new York City mayor Eric Adams making his first Court Appearance in connection to those federal Bribery And Wire fraud charges. We will have a live report in a few moments. As Ukraines President Zelenskyy meets with former President Trump here in manhattan about Ukraines Prosecutor about whats next in their war with russia. We have a very good relationship. I also have a very good relationship, as you know, with president putin. I think if we win, i think were going to get it resolved very quickly. More good relations. It takes two to tango. Israels prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rips into iran at the u. N. General assembly this morning and accuses the World Body and its criminal court of antisemitism. The real War Criminals are not in israel. Theyre in iran. They are in gaza, in syria, in lebanon, in yemen. Those of you who stand with evil against good, with the curse against the blessing, those of you who do so should be ashamed of yourself. Good day, everyone. Im Andrea Mitchell reporting from new York Today as we track Record Rainfall and dangerous flooding with Hurricane Helene Weakening to a tropical storm overnight and moving toward tennessee. But slamming Floridas Gulf Coast with deadly force late last night. Helene was a category 4, the most powerful to hit florida big Bend Region and third there in nearly a year. The storms violent winds, some Up To 140 miles per hour, Tossing A Boat Ashore in tampa and blocking roads with trees and debris. This car was almost completely submerged in water on st. Pete beach. At least 13 people are dead across three states, some killed by falling trees and falling highway signs. The overnight conditions making Rescue Attempts in the dark even more complicated. This house in South Pasadena was engulfed in fire. Take a look at this daring rescue yesterday. A man and his dog both eventually brought to safety. Joining us now, pria sadar. But we begin with bill karins. Talk to us about the track of the storm and how strong it was overnight. This was everything you get with a category 4. Record breaking storm surge. The rainfall overnight has been incredible. Thats what we are dealing with. Theres lifethreatening weather right now. There are water rescues taking place. One dam in North Carolina that they say, imminent failure is likely. They are evacuating everyone downstream. Theres a lot of issues. Even though the storm is falling apart and spreading out from tennessee to kentucky all the way through virginia, the areas that got hit this morning and during the overnight is from atlanta to asheville to greenville and outside of charlotte. This pink is what we call Flash Flood emergencies. These are only issued when we know theres lifethreatening water in areas that shouldnt be. First floors of houses, businesses, rivers that are overflowing its banks. Ive seen highways that look like rivers. They have to crest. It will be another day or two before those Water Levels begin to recede. We have a chance of additional flooding. We will get another two to four inches of rain in lexington, bowling green, Up To cincinnati, indianapolis a little short of that. We could see flooding throughout the weekend in areas of tennessee and kentucky. Tornadoes are still a risk as we go throughout the day. We have been watching this band rotating through eastern North Carolina. At Times Tornado warnings near raleigh and durham. Raleigh, the worst is on the East Side of town. No tornado warnings. Once this line goes through, then you will be in the clear. We have had numerous Wind Gusts. More people without power in South Carolina than they do in North Carolina. That was because the really strong winds overnight. Its still charleston at 48 miles an hour. Charlotte at 43. We had a gust if you know the southern appalachians. Andrea, a Wind Gust to 108 miles per hour. This has been an incredible storm. The impacts from miami and now all the way up into the ohio valley. Bill karins, its incredible. You are keeping on track of that. Joining me from atlanta, pria sadar. What are conditions like there . The governor just briefed. Reporter thats right. Officials have been characterizing this as lifethreatening. There are now 11 fatalities here in georgia as a result of hurricane helene. Many of the fatalities have to do with the very strong win gusts that we are seeing. Trees falling on cars and homes. Also car crashes. One of those people who died was a first responder. I want you to take a look at what im seeing right now. As bill was mentioning, theres Swift Water rescues occurring at this hour. This is a home that is completely submerged. You can see the vehicles in the driveway. This is what the homeowners woke Up To last night. We are being told by neighbors, they were able to evacuate their home overnight. They obviously once the waters are dealt with, they will come back and see what daniel has been done. Whats interesting, andrea, is that this neighborhood was actually flooded back in 2009. Neighboring are telling me this is much worse than what they saw back then. After that flooding occurred, they raised many of the homes here on The Street by nine feet and still we are seeing these conditions. I want you to take a look if you can at that mailbox down the road. That mailbox, as you can tell, is almost fully submerged. It has been like that for hours. Theres no signs as of yet of the Water Levels receding. This is coming from a nearby creek. There were dozens of Swift Water rescues occurring overnight. Fire crews going Door To door in neighbors, getting residents out of their homes. We will continue to monitor all of this as the Flash Flood emergency here in atlanta goes on until 1 00 p. M. Thank you so much. Joining us now, Lieutenant Chris volts, the emergency management director. Tallahassee avoided a direct hit but perry, florida, other towns wiped out. Yes. It was quite an experience. As you stated this is the third hurricane in just over 12 months. Hurricane helene, devastating winds, over 100 miles an hour sustained for several hours last night. We have Rescue Efforts that are going on currently. Search and rescue as well as just trying to clear our roads. We have massive amounts 100 Power Outage in our county. Debris and other things that we are addressing as well. How does this compare with the past storms you have had . As you point out, three just this year. Yeah. No hurricane is the same. We had Hurricane Adelia last year, which was impactful. Came into our county as a category 1. We just had Hurricane Debby less than a month ago which was a tremendous water maker, which has our Water Level at major Flood Stage in our county. The rain that we received is creating some problems. Obviously, the water to the north of us will create more problems in our tributaries in four or five days as that comes in. A category 4, a significant amount of wind that created the damage, its a lot to deal with. Our neighbors are dealing with the same thing around us. We are pushing through. We want the public to know we are out there working diligently to get to them, to make sure that our citizens are safe. Chris, thank you for everything you are doing. You and your teams. Its valiant. Of course, we are wishing the best for everyone in that zone. We have Breaking News. Israel says it has just hit the heart of beirut with a massive strike against hezbollahs central headquarters in lebanon. This could be a major escalation in israels assault. Its not the ground invasion. These are air strikes. Matt bradley is in beirut. Matt, tell us what did you feel this blast . Reporter we were here. We heard the sound. It was a long and low rumble that shook the hotel windows here. It was something that we have been hearing this kind of thing for quite a bit over the past week. We are situated in this hotel where im standing. North of the southern Beirut Neighborhood of dahia over my right shoulder here. Thats what the israeli army said that they struck with multiple missiles that they said were trying to destroy hezbollahs main Command And Control center which is based in dahia. This is after a full week of them attacking Southern Lebanon. They have killed more than 700 people, many of them civilians, according to lebanese health authorities, in Southern Lebanon and in the region of baka. This happened just a couple minutes after netanyahu wrapped up his speech at the General Assembly. It put pay to what he is saying, that israel will continue to strike hezbollah targets throughout the country. This was The Strongest blast we have heard here in beirut since we got here a week ago and since ive been here back and forth for the past year. This sounded like a succession of blasts that according to hezbollah destroyed several buildings. The israelis said the Command Control was under a residential neighborhood, part of what the israelis is hezbollahs policy of trying to use human shields. This is the accusation they have levelled against hamas as well in the gaza strip. This happens as theres this frenetic effort in New York to try to get Lebanon And Israel to try to sign on to some sort of Peace Deal that would bring a measure of peace and would silence the guns over the border between israel and lebanon. Matt, we will be reporting later in the program, i have some Exclusive Reporting on what u. S. Officials were told by the israelis yesterday. They do think they are near the end of this operation, because they think they are getting the Command And Control, and this validates that claim. We will see what they actually accomplished in the latest hit. We will have more to come later in the broadcast. We will have the u. N. Ambassador from the united states, linda thomas greenfield. New York City mayor Eric Adams is in a federal courtroom at this hour making his first appearance on five federal charges of bribery and conspireing with turkish officials. Adams has denied the charges. He is expected to plead not guilty. He will be processed, fingerprinted, have his Mug Shot taken. Here with me now is laura jarrett. I dont have to tell you how extraordinary this is. You are living, breathing it every day. This is just unprecedented. Its a stunning moment. Someone who has gone from the highest ranks of government, turning himself in now to authorities. Someone in law enforcement, was a policeman. Now fingerprinted, having his Mug Shot taken. He went through the normal processes that every other department went through this morning. He got there early at the courthouse, just after 8 00 a. M. He is in court being advised of his rights. Were told by our team in the courthouse, this is being done by a magistrate judge, who is not the judge who will oversee the ultimate Trial But Someone who goes through the administrative piece of this. This is a formality at this point. He knows he has charged. He knows what he has been charged with. She has to go through the normal processes. He will come back next week. That will start the clock of when we will see a trial and all of the processes that will play out over the next year or so. We hear from the courtroom that he just pleaded not guilty, as expected. Theres one shoe that hasnt dropped in the political sphere. I noticed from her comments that the governor were, im going to give the mayor a few days to make sure that the city is being run properly. She has very measured in what she says about him. Obviously, some people at the highest levels like Jerry Nadler said he should step aside. Aoc said he should step aside. Governor hochul, theres a provision of the charter that allows her to do that. Its a long, complicated. It hasnt been used. She could do it. She hasnt signalled whether shes going to. We are in the early days. He has just been indicted. Its something to keep an eye on as well as the opportunity for a superseding indictment, which would trump the one that we have seen, something to watch for. I heard you say that this indictment that originally came out and was unsealed yesterday doesnt include whatever fruits they may have received, gotten from their raid at the official residence. That got lost in the shuffle. Its no small thing to have federal agents go in with a search warrant. They have probable cause to believe that a crime has been committed and have satisfied a federal judge that that has happened. We will see what comes out of that search warrant, if anything. As you said, he is in court right now pleading not guilty. Laura, you have to jump back and get into it again. Thank you so much. Of course. We appreciate it. Joining us now is Joyce Vance and mara gay, a member of the New York times editorial board. How challenging is this to prosecute . Theres a rule that you dont charge unless you think you can get a conviction. Right. Federal prosecutors can only bring an indictment if they believe they have enough evidence to both get a conviction and sustain it on appeal. Public corruption cases are uniquely challenging because you have to get into the Defendants Mind and you have to prove to the Jurys Satisfaction what a defendant knew, what they intended to happen. These are the difficulties in these cases. Andrea, something a little bit different is going on in this case. We see a bribery charge, and that is standard in this sort of case. Theres this charge of soliciting foreign officials for campaign contributions. This has been with this justice effort, its an effort to tamp down on foreign influence in our elections. Its a different kind of charge. Its a charge that in some ways gives the Justice Department an entirely different avenue towards conviction. These two parallel threads, bribery and then foreign influence in this same indictment. Mara, the New York times editorial board, you are a member of the board, is calling for adams to resign. Governor hochul has said shes going to give him the next few days. We talked about that with laura. You write that City Hall is leaderless after adams, quote, filled City Hall with his cronies and patronage hires. Yeah. I want to be clear that like anybody else in this situation, mayor Eric Adams is entitled to his defense. While that Criminal Process Plays Out there may be more charges to come against him or others, we dont know yet, but thats one expectation. Theres a different situation at City Hall, which is a political crisis. We have a city that essentially has no permanent police commissioner. We have the largest School District in the country who the leader of that, david banks, said he is going to resign. Citys health commissioner, not under investigation, just gotten fed up and decided to leave as well. We are missing a Corporation Counsel and several other key appointments. Theres a strong sense that not only is there a culture that Eric Adams brought into City Hall that has made quick work of what was a very clean political environment, actually, of Public Service in a matter of years, but also a sense that there are key positions in City Hall that are vacant, and therefore, not delivering for New Yorkers. Thats our immediate concern as we, of course, allow this political process to play out. Theres no question that so far the Mayors Mayorality has been a failure. I hoped he would succeed. So far, he has not delivered on promises he has made. Instead of focusing on some of the most pressing issues, for example he has a great Housing Plan to build more housing. Rather than focusing his political capital on getting that through or focusing on building on literacy in schools, which he also promised to tackle, he seems to have been focused on cronyism. Thats a political failure. Its one that is having a Real Life Impact on New Yorkers. Thats the main concern as we allow the rest of the process to play out. Joyce vance, mara gay, thanks to both of you. Up next, ukraines top prosecutor joins me as President Zelenskyy is meeting with former President Trump. Russian strikes in ukraine continue, leading to more civilian deaths today. You are watching Andrea Mitchell reports on msnbc. I got my bleep together. The whole class knows i got my bleep together. Just say it you can get your shots together too, your Covid19 Shot and your flu shot, at the same visit, as recommended by the cdc. I got my shots together, dude ask your Healthcare Provider about getting this seasons Covid19 Shot when getting your flu shot, if youre due for both. Are you getting your bleep together . Ukrainian President Zelenskyy met Face To face with former president Donald Trump this morning at Trump Tower Right here in New York. That meeting comes as u. S. Support for Ukraines War against russia hangs in the balance ahead of novembers election. We have a very good relationship. I also have a very good relationship with president putin. I think if we win, i think were going to get it resolved very quickly. I think were going to get i hope we have more good relations. It takes two to tango. We will have a good meeting today. I think the fact that we are together today is a very good sign. On the trail, mr. Trump has been increasingly critical of zelenskyy and continues to attack u. S. Policy supporting ukraine. Every time zelenskyy comes to the united states he walks away with 100 billion. I think he is the greatest salesman on earth. But were stuck in that war unless im president. He has been praising vladimir putin. Joining me now is Ukraines Prosecutor general. Very good to see you again. You too. I want to talk about the policies here, not the politics. How concerned are you about the rhetoric from Donald Trump supporting putin, saying he could finish the war in a day once he gets into office, the skepticism about u. S. Military support, the attacks the personal attacks against President Zelenskyy . For me, its important that every Day Russia is attacking ukrainian civilians. Just today, russia attacked the civilian residential area with three civilians killed and six injured. Just yesterday, last night, Odessa Region was attacked by Combat Drones with three civilians killed and 14 others wounded, including three children. Its critically important to putin and for this atrocities and for commission of these crimes. My visit to New York and to d. C. Is related to how to deprive russia from modern technology and from resources to be used in production of weapons and ammunition. Just yesterday, we have had Side Event at u. N. Together with assistant Attorney General matt olesen, Assistant Secretary for commerce and the European Union commissioner for justice to combine our efforts and to stop illicit flow of technology and parts, which russia use to produce missiles and drones who are killing ukrainian people every day. I think this is the main task of all of us, because we all know that justice is an important prerequisite to receive just and long lasting piece. Thats why all civilized world should be united in order to make russia accountable for all crimes committed against ukraine and against ukrainians. For you to prosecute those War Crimes requires some kind of resolution to the war. But Russias Army says he captured donetsk. The czech president says ukraine needs to accept that some territory could remain under russian control when this is over. That ukraine needs to be, quote, realistic. He is not the only one, of course, making that argument. Is it hard to sustain support even among your neighbors as this war continues . You know, on my track, Accountability Track, we have full support. Our web of accountability, which consists of national investigations, using international justice mechanisms like icc, using support of our partners and friends, including u. S. Who charged three alleged russians with charges, we have a good dynamic in the coordination of 40 states for creating tribunal for the crime of aggression first time after the Nuremberg And Tokyo tribunal. Reparations to ukrainians who suffer from this war. This mechanism is in place. So for me its important that our Accountability Track is very active. It shows a good example for all other tracks of support. Those who are discussing how ukraine should compromise its situation, put themselves on our place. It is easy sometimes to advice to the other, to ukrainian people. But they need first to ask ukrainian victims and survivors of the war what they think about such compromises. We as prosecutors, we are working for victims and survivors. We protect their rights. Without establishing justice, we cannot reach last long lasting piece. Its not stable without ensuring justice. Its important to go ahead on our Accountability Track. That was true after the war in kosovo and they learned that with War Crimes trials. It happens. A warning to all of these who conduct War Crimes. Thank you very much. Thank you. Next, as Vice PresidentHarris Heads back to the border, Jen Psaki breaks down the state of the 2024 race, less than six weeks to go. Indictments out against three iranians, members of irans Islamic Revolutionary Guard, their Military And Intelligence operation, for Hacking Trump Campaign emails. Including former President Trump. We are working to investigate and disrupt Irans Funding and support of hamas, hezbollah and other terrorist groups. We are working relentlessly to uncover and counter irans efforts to stoke discord, to undermine confidence in our democratic institutions and to influence our elections. As the Intelligence Community has reported, we are seeing increasingly aggressive iranian cyber activity during this election cycle. In august, the Intelligence Community reported an ongoing effort by iran to compromise former President Trumps campaign and to influence the u. S. Election process. Last week, the intelligent community reported in late june and early july, iranian Militia Cyber Actors sent emails to individuals who were associated with president bidens campaign. The emails contained an excerpt taken from stolen nonpublic information from former President Trumps campaign as text in the emails. The Intelligence Community reported theres no indication representing the recipients replied. The Intelligence Community reported iranian cyber actors have continued their efforts since june to send material associated with trumps campaign to u. S. Media organizations. Moments ago, the Justice Department unsealed an Indictment Charging three hackers working for the iranian government with Material Support for terrorism, computer fraud, wire fraud, and Identity Theft for their roles in the cyberattacks. The three hackers are iranian nationals residing in iran. As outlined in our indictment, the defendants conspired with others to deploy a years long Hacking Operation on behalf of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard corps. The operation targeted the Email Accounts of current and former american public officials, journalists, and most recently individuals associated with u. S. Political campaigns. The defendants own words make clear they were attempting to undermine former President Trumps campaign in advance of the 2024 u. S. Presidential election. We know that iran is continuing its brazen efforts to stoke discord, erode confidence in the u. S. Electoral Process And Advance its malign activities through a designated foreign terrorist organization. The Justice Department is committed to countering the threat that iran poses to our democracy, to our national security, and to our allies in the international community. As we approach the upcoming election i want to reiterate that the Justice Department will not tolerate attempts by iran or by any foreign power to interfere in our elections and undermine our democracy. Together with our partners across the federal government, we will use every tool we have to counter and disrupt the efforts of iran as well as Russia And China to exploit our democratic system of government. The message of the u. S. Government is clear, the american people, not a foreign power, decide the outcome of our countrys elections. Not iran and its cyber activities as laid bare in today indictment, not russia and its efforts to spread propaganda to secure its preferred outcome in the u. S. Presidential election as laid bare in the indictments and seizures earlier this month and not china which continues in its efforts to exert targeted influence at the federal, state and local levels in furtherance of the Prcs Agenda as described in multiple previous indictments and the Intelligence Communitys recent Election Security updates. These authoritarian regimes, which violate the Human Rights of their own citizens, do not get a say in our countrys democratic process. The american people and the american people alone will decide the outcome of our countrys elections. Now to the second matter. In just over a Week Nbc News investigative reporter Dan Deluce joins me. Election interference against Russia And Iran and china he mentioned, and that the u. S. Is going to stand firm against that. He also recapitulated the previous indictments and charges and accusations against iran, including the threat against the life of former President Trump. Dan . Yeah. This is interesting because he talked about how iran is being more aggressive with its cyber operations and cyber hacking. This indictment lays it out in detail. We knew that the iranians had tried to hack and successfully hacked the Trump Campaign and they took stolen information and tried to distribute it and spread it to News Media and the then biden campaign. This indictment shows that this was going on since 2020 in terms of trying to hack u. S. Officials, former u. S. Officials, former cia officials, journalists, think tankers, ngo commentators. Some of the details are interesting. Theres a former Deputy Director of the cia had their personal Email Account hacked successfully. This was a very sustained operation. Of course, theres not much the u. S. Can do besides naming and shaming these individuals. They are not going to be traveling to the u. S. To face justice. It does show you the degree of concern here about what iran has been Up To. Dan, thank you so much for being all over this. Vice president Kamala Harris is on her way to arizona where she will visit the southern border for the first time in three years. Later today, in Fact Tonight our time, harris is expected to call for tougher security measures, more Border Patrol agents, and new Fentanyl Detection machines. Border security remains a Stumbling Block for the Vice President s campaign, a big issue as 54 of voters believe Donald Trump is better than she on the issue. According to our new Nbc News poll. Joining me now is Nbc NewsGabe Gutierrez live from douglas, arizona, and former white House Press SecretaryJen Psaki, the host of inside with Jen Psaki. First, gabe, to you. What more do we expect from the Vice President s visit to the Border Today . This is political damage control, if you will. Its a persistent problem with her for her, rather, on the campaign. Reporter yes, certainly. Its an attempt at rebranding. For the last several months, we have seen Kamala Harris taking a more aggressive stance on immigration, trying to highlight her record as a prosecutor, as californias Attorney General, that she prosecuted transnational gangs and drug traffickers. For a long time, as you know, many democrats didnt want to talk about immigration and the border. That really changed earlier this year when Donald Trump urged house republicans to tank the bipartisan Border Bill and democrats have since seen an opportunity. They think they can gain ground in these critical battleground states such as arizona. That is what we expect to hear Vice President harris say later on today. Shes been talking about it on the campaign trail, during this debate. We expect her to come here and get an operational briefing here on the ground. As you said, the last time she was at the border was 2021, back in el paso. She had received a lot of criticism for not going more often. Her campaign is out with a new Ad Today and is pushing that message that she is best positioned to focus on Border Security here. Jen, pick it up from there. Lets talk about this issue and how shes dealing with it. Then we will talk about your interview with doug emhoff. I would say looking at this strategy from the harris campaign, its actually more about leaning into an issue that they know is a weakness in terms of voters perception. This is actually, i think, a smart political strategy. They know theyre not going to win on the Immigration Issue in terms of Public Opinion between now and november and the election day. They need to make up ground. By going to the border, by showing up there, im sure she will have tough words for trump about killing the bipartisan border deal. Shes showing people she cares about there issue. Maybe we will see making up ground. Thats what the political strategy is here thats going on. Let me switch gears and talk about your interview with the second gentleman. I keep calling him the first because he is the first aspiring first gentleman. I was really struck by what i saw last night, The Strong his strong comments about Donald Trump and antisemitism and what he has been trying do with many of his speeches. Yeah. This is the part of the interview one of the parts thats stuck with me since i sat down with him on wednesday. Long before he fell in love with Kamala Harris, the Attorney General at the time, who loved to cook, he was somebody who was working in the business community, an entertainment lawyer, but somebody connected to his jewish faith. He talked about how shes really pushed him to be out there on this issue, to be out there talking about antisemitism and how it has been really hard for him at times. I think we have a clip we will play. What bothered me is when trump got up at an purporting to fight antisemitism. He said vile things, long tropes that are terrible. We have to speak out every single time when something like that happens. Im going to continue not to be afraid, not to be intimidated, not to live in fear but to live openly and proudly as a jewish person. When you hear him say things like that, and he said if he doesnt win it will be essentially the fault of jewish americans. One of the oldest tropes. I know you put a statement out at the time. Do you worry he is putting a target on the Backs Of Jewish americans . He is. Take him at his word. He lies about a lot of things. But you have to take him at his word on things like this. Yeah, this is a disgusting trope. Its an outrage. Its not just jewish people that should be outraged. He feels this personally as you can see. He got emotional a bit about the challenge of talking about the impact of the rise of antisemitism. The other thing that i loved about the interview we will play the whole thing sunday is he loves his wife. How wonderful is that . He is proud to be a wife guy. He is proud to be somebody standing up and supporting her in this moment. Thats not its a bit of a different take and a different approach to masculinity than we see, one he is presenting and Tim Walz than on the other side. It was great to sit down with him. He is a big asset to them on the campaign trail. Yeah. I know you and i have been blessed with spouses like that. We now how rare it is. I want to see the whole interview. Thats Sunday At Noon Eastern on inside with Jen Psaki. Gabe gutierrez as well, thank you down there in douglas, arizona. Make sure to watch all of that interview on Sunday At Noon Eastern. And Monday Night at 8 00 eastern, right here on msnbc. Next, we take a deep dive into what happened at the u. N. General assembly this week and this morning. The challenges ahead with u. S. Now to Breaking News out of beirut. The Israeli Military says it carried out a precise strike, thats a quote, against hezbollahs central underground headquarters in the central part of the lebanese capital. This new attack just hours ago coming as israels prime Minister Netanyahu was just coming off the podi, and he went far beyond his usual flashing of iran today. He had a group of proisrael attendees with him that he brought to cheer his comments, which were overwhelmingly because of the General Assembly, these comments in the General Assembly are never received very well. They vote overwhelmingly against israel. Netanyahu for the first time suggesting at this event that the u. N. Is guilty of antisemitism. The icc prosecutors rush to judgment. His refusal to treat israel with its independent courts the way other democracies are treated is hard to explain by Anything Other than pure antisemitism. Joining me now is Ambassador Linda thomas greenfield, the united States Ambassador to the u. N. You heard his remarks. It was a very tough speech. Theres diplomacy going on behind the scenes with secretary blinken. Israels Prime Minister is accusing the u. N. Of being antisemitic. Whats your reaction . Thank you. Great to be on with you. Let me just say, we have raised concerns consistently of unfair bias in the u. N. System as it relates to israel. We have, i think, an inordinate number of meetings related to israel compared to other regions in the world where we have sometimes even more problems like sudan is an example. I think the Prime Minister is right in the sense that there is an unfair focus on israel. I will not comment on antisemitism. I have no doubt that there are individuals in the u. N. System that might among member states that that might apply to. I would not apply it to the entire u. N. System. Netanyahu told Tehran Today if you strike israel, we will retaliate. Iran has not retaliated directly against israel for the assassination of the Hamas LeaderIn Tehran or for attacks against its proxies in lebanon. How concerned are you about the Threat Today . The president , of course, has made clear that we do not want to see the situation in the Middle East escalate. We dont want to see a fullblown war in the Middle East. Yes, we are concerned about the situation. We have urged the iranians, who have been proactively Edge Gain engaged with supporting antiisrael elements that they should cease those actions. Israel has a right to selfdefense. We have been clear about israels right to defend itself should it be directly attacked by the iranians. Whether or not Antony Blinken meets with netanyahu, but there are talks going on. Do we know anything about this latest strike against beirut . In the headquarters of hezbollah, underground, which they were they say they were targeting with precision bombs, may have been more hezbollah leaders. Theres a question about who is there. Im aware of the attacks. Im seeing the press reports as you are. I dont have any additional information on what is coming out from those attacks. Theres a lot of talk about the u. S. Proposal. They thought they had implicit agreement from israel before the Prime Minister got here. Then when he got here he talked about continuing to fire. I am told by u. S. Officials that they have been told by israelis that they believe that they have almost accomplished their military goals in lebanon. Theyre not going to go in on the ground, in other words, at least as far as they are concerned. They are trying to make it safe to return to the north. Is it possible then, as these talks continue, that they might agree to a ceasefire or a pause in hostilities in the coming days . That is our hope. Thats what we have been consistently working on for almost a year. That is to get us to a cessation of hostilities that would allow for hostages to be returned to their families, assistance to be provided directly to palestinians in gaza, for israelis along the border with lebanon to return to their homes in safety, and for lebanese living on that border to return safely. Those efforts continue as we speak. We continue to be hopeful that they will bear fruit. Theres so much else going on. These socalled Speed Dating by diplomats here. Iran has been here with their new government. We heard what israel said about the iranian government in general today. But also a lot of other conversations, including about the humanitarian aid efforts. There is a dispute between Aid Officials who say israel is blocking aid from getting into gaza and the decision by the Secretary Of State that thats not the case, because that would require cutting off weapons to israel. How do you assess whether israel is blocking aid getting into gaza . Look, we also have engaged with the israelis, with others on the ground to ensure that humanitarian aid gets through to the people of gaza. This is the highest priority of the u. S. Government. As i have said to my colleagues on a regular basis here, we are the only country with diplomats on the ground working on this every single day. Israel does have a responsibility to ensure that humanitarian assistance is allowed in. This is an issue that we raised with them on a regular basis. The u. N. Has a special Reconstruction And Engagement representative who has been meeting with the israelis on this issue on a regular basis. We are meeting with others in the region to ensure that we can get the needed humanitarian assistance on the ground to palestinians. Thank you so much, ambassador. Appreciate it. Thank you. Now a bittersweet moment for me, for all of us. 15 years ago, Michelle Perry helped create this show when it began. For the last decade has been our executive producer. Before that, she was my partner in the washington bureau. Ever since Tim Russert told me she was the smartest person to work in his office. Shes smart but so much more. Shes empathetic, tough, thoughtful. Calm in a crisis. She is a great leader. Shes become one of the most beloved and respected colleagues in our washington bureau, in our network and more broadly in our entire profession. All that plus shes an amazing spouse. Shes the mother of two incredible kids. It was just inevitable and its a source of great pride that our bosses would want michelle to play a larger role across all of the net works of nbc.
