Harris and former President Trump laid out competing visions in a set of speeches that could not have been more different Trumps Speech was so similar to the Stump Speech he always gives, that even Fox News did not want to cover it and that number was going up until i came along were going to continue to to watch this we carried this economic speech in its entirety for almost an hour and a half yesterday. Were told the rest of his speech will very much echo what he said yesterday. Its basically were going to cut away from it. For years now trumps economic message has been the same. It has been a message of doom and gloom. Now its centered around the idea that the Bidenharris Administration ruined the american economy. But that idea, that conceit is getting less and less believable every day. Be the S P 500 also closing a alltime highs. No Vice President in history has done more damage to the united States Economy than Kamala Harris. Another rally underway. The Dow Industrial Up 67, the nasdaq up 43. S p 500 up 7. 25 . Extending into further record territory. Kamala harris is a onewoman economic Wrecking Ball that will drive our country into a depression like in 1929. Let the balloons be released. The Blue Chips make history for the fourth straight day. Th trumps economic pitch is built on the premise the u. S. Economy is a disaster. But that is simply not the case. And it is becoming harder and harder for the Trump Campaign to pretend it is. This weekend trumps running mate, j. D. Vance, went to a Grocery Store in pennsylvania to talk about the price of eggs. In addition to a series of awkward interactions with customers, j. D. Vances Chip Malfunctions when hes forced to interact with Human Beings in everyday settings. Fans also claimed the cost of a dozen eggs had skyrocketed to 4 a dozen, even though behind him literally you could see multiple cartons of eggs on sale for 2. 99 a doesp. Inflation is down to 2. 5 , a 2 threeyear low. And many americans know that because most americans buy their own eggs and know what they actually cost. That is the underlying issue with the broader Trumpvance Narrative on the economy. Its notna really based in reality. And when it comes to trumpS Plan for the future, trumps vision for what he would do to improve the american economy he claims is so disastrous, trumpS Pitch is essentially a combo of Tax Cuts and tariffs. That plan is so bad that today even the deeply, deeply conservative Wall Street Journal editorialre board, even they ar not buying it. Heres a quote. Donald trump is giving u. S. Companies a reason to think Kamala Harris might be better for their business. He is making tariffs his highest priority, and that wont help the economy if he wins. To hear trump tell it hes going to cut taxes left and right and replace the revenue that would have been gained from those taxes with massive tariffs of anywhere between 10 to 200 on all imported consumer goods. Thats the plan. If it sounds weird to you, thats because the math doesnt work. Trumps own alma mater, the Wharton School of business, found trumps system would add almost 6 Trillion with a t, trillion dollars to the national debt. And those prices from those massive 200 tariffs, they would be passed directly onto the consumer, the american one. The Center For American Progress found trumpS Plan would cost the typical american family somewhere between 2,500 and 3,900 more just to buy the same stuff theyre buying now. In poll after poll both nationally andol in the Swing States that will decide this election, american voters say that their Number One priority is the economy. And so that presents Vice President harris with a very real opportunity. The Washington Post compiled Polling Averages from when Donald Trump was run against Joe Biden where trump led biden on the economy by 12 points. 1 but now trump is only ahead of Kamala Harrisah by 6 points. In other words, she cut that gap in half. So it would seem that at least some people are listening to what trump is saying on the economy, and listening to What Harris has to say about the economy, and theyre turning towards harris. Now, dont get me wrong, 6 points is still 6 points. That is why today while trump was giving his economic pitch in north carolina, harris was in pennsylvania making her pitch. 20,000 of first time home buys, increasing the small Business Startup to 60,000, increasing the Child Tax Credit to 6,000 the first year of a childs life. While the meat of harriS Pitch remains similar to what we have heard from her before, the way she presented those proposals, felt designed to appeal to very specific voters she very much still needs to win over. The cost of living in america is still just too high. You know it and i know it. Look, im a capitalist. I believe in free and fair markets. For Donald Trump our economy worked best if it works for those who own the big skyscrapers, not those who actually build them, not those who wire them, not those who mop the floors. [ applause ] well, i have a very different vision. Joining me now is connecticut senator chrisno murphy, who is the Ballot Running for a third time alongside the harriswalz ticket. Senator, its great tori see yo. In addition to having math on her side, which is no small this is no small thing if youre Kamala Harris and youre talking about theka economy, theres al the reality she has to combat the fact shes an incumbent, and shes also running on the idea of change, which is important to american voters. I want to play a little bit of sound from j. D. Vance tonight. Hes responding to harris economic address today. Lets take a listen. Lets dispense with this idea that Kamala Harris is going to fix the Veryha Problems She caused. Kamala harris is why p we have y high inflation. Do you what is the appropriate strategy for democrats on that thats the only rejoineder you really get from the trump team, which is if she was going to do all this stuff, why hasnt she done it yet . Listen, shes got the contrast right. Donald trump cares only about himself and his maralago friends. We know that because he was in power, and what happened when Donald Trump was in power . His only domestic accomplishment was a massive Tax Cut for himself and his corporate friends. The economy was in ruins when he left. Unemployment was skyrocketing. People were out of work. We were, okay, in the middle of a pandemic that was mismanaged by Donald Trump. And we are right now living in an economy that every day is getting better. Inflation is coming down. More people are at work than ever before in the last ten years, and were rebuilding industries that people thought were dead like the Microchip Industry that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have derestarted. I just think youve got to hammer home that contrast over and over again. People know it. They believe it. They know Donald Trump only b cares aboutld himself. They remember his only domestic accomplishment was that massive Tax Cut for his friends, and Kamala Harris has to be really bold every single Campaign Stop of talking to people about what shes going to do, invest in the middlein class, rebuild america industry, restart millions of american small businesses, and as you said at the outset of the this show, the american people when they listen to those two messages are increasingly coming to the conclusion that Kamala Harris is for them and Donald Trump is for just him and his maralago cronies. I went and spoke to a couple of undecided Union Workers in the swingiest Swing County in the country, michigan, this week, senator. And what is what is among the things remarkable about that trip is the degree to which Against All Odds all the things you just reminded us of, Donald Trump still in their own imagination is better on the economy. I want b to play this sound. Just for everybody to hear from the mouth of one of the people that Donald Trump Hasf Entranc with talk of how good how well he has shepherd the american economy. Lets take a listen. Can you talk to me a little bit about what in particular he said that has appealed to you . The economy. The economy was the best its been in a long time under him. Immigration was under control for the most part. Obviously youre still going to have some, but for the most part it was far more under control than what it is right now, and those ares the changid like to see. Senator, well set aside the economy piece, but how do you reachut that guy that doesnt think about covid, Donald Trumps mismanagement of the crisis, what it did to the global economy, doesnt think about anything other than i think inflation, whats the case to be made . Well, listen, we do live in a bit of a shirts and skins world today, and so there are many voters who maybe come to Donald Trump through cultural issues, through hiS Position on choice or through hiS Position on immigration there areit Voters O do want that wall and dont want immigrants coming to this country who then also decide to endorse every single one of his other positions without a lot of deep analysis. But the thing that Donald Trump i think did well in his first campaign was identify the way in which the global economy has screwed the american worker, how our bet that open trade with china would end up rising all boats. It did not. And there are a lot of folks who remember the fact that donald talking about china when Awa Lot of other people werent. Now, as it turned out, he did nothing to rebuild american industry. We lost manufacturing jobs when Donald Trumpri waS President. Kamala Harris Today outlined a very specific plan to reindustrialize the united states and bring jobs back from china. But you have to recognize that we got it wrong for a long time. I think if you want to be hawn with the american people, and the american people want you to be honest with them, you have to level with them that republicans and democrats made a bad bet on globalization. And admit that failure and chart the plan on how youre going to solve then problem. And i think that there are a lot of people out there that arent always convinced that democrats understand how badly things went wrong. So i think being clear about the mistakes weve made allows you to i think more persuasively and authentically communicate the real solutions that someone like Kamala Harris has to correct for those mistakes. Donald trump invokes his Tariff Solution like every third word on the stump. Do you think that is a potential weak point for harris to exploit . I mean hes talking about slapping John Deere with 200 tariffs. That is a catastrophically bad idea on multiple levels, and i wonder how you think Vice President harris and democrats should talkes about it. Yeah, itS Pretty simple. I dont think you have to get into the, you know, the weeds of tariffkn policy. Donald trumps economic plan is reallyru simple, a massive Tax T for him and his friends, a massive Tax Increase on everybody else. Why . Because all that Donald Trump cares about is d himself. He will sell Anybody And Everybody outny in order to hel himself. And so his economic plan is to screw you as a means to help himself. I just think that is a simple, accurate, and winning Message Juxtaposed against kamala harriS Plan, which is to raise taxes on the very, very wealthy. Ask them to help us rebuild our country and lower Housing Prices and to invest Tax Cuts in the middle class and in small businesses who really grow our economy. Senatorho chris murphy, than you for your time and thoughts. Its great to have you on the program. Appreciate it. Still ahead tonight, can we trust the polls anymore or should we just put them all into a Giantut Box and not open them until November 5th or never . Ill talk to Arizona Senator Mark Kelly about Donald Trumps 5point lead in his state and what, if anything, that means. But first, who exactly are those undecided votersre in thiS President ial election . I met a few of them during my trip to michigan this week, and ill talk to The New York Times Jeremy Peters about why he thinks they are still on the fence. Thats next. He thinks they are still on the fence. Thats next. Is it possible to count on my internet like my customers count on me . It is with Comcast Business. Call today im undecided because i just havent have havent seen enough of it yet. I need to pay closer Attention And Kind of do more independent research before i make my judgment. You think youre going to vote in november . Im undecided at thiS Point. You know, Donald Trump is very, very interested in getting Young Men out to vote. Youre a young man. What does he need to say to get you to vote for him . Im not sure. I just need to do my own research and make that decision still. Do you think any of the issues are going to be the issues ultimately going to decide this for you . Probably not. Id have to do more research. That was the overwhelming response i got from young, Male Union Voters in michigan when i asked them how they were going to vote this november. It fits in a larger trend we were seeing nationwide. The new york times reports more than any other voters they tend to be young, black, and hispanic. They get more news than social media news. These are the undecided that could make the difference in the tight president ial election. When undecideds are challenging old perceptions of how identity influences voting. Joining me now is Jeremy Peters, the Lead Byline on that riveting story that fits in directly with my own reporting. Jeremy, thank you for being here. Okay, when biden was still in the race there was a lot of talk about double haters, people who looked at biden and harris and thought i dont want either one of them. Theyre undecided or unhappily committed and they describe the choice ahead as the lesser of two evils. How is that meaningfully different than the double haters . So the reason they dont hate both candidates is they dont know enough about Kamala Harris to hate her. I think your segment portrayed it perfectly. These are young people. They tend to be black, more hispanic than the overall voting population, and theyre very disgruntled with the way things are going. Theyre concerned about run away inflation, the price of Health Care, the fact that they cant buy a home because of interest rates. And theyre not like just obsessive about politics. Theyre not, unfortunately, watching this show every night theyre definitely not yeah, theyre probably never watching this show and probably never watching The New York Times. They exist in a completely different universe of information and to call It Information implies theres sort of an engine of interest in current events. I think theyre just the World View is much moreinsular, and it makes for when i came out of the meeting with those Union Workers i thought, man, it is going to be really hard for the Harris Campaign in particular to, a, disabuse these Young Men of the notion Donald Trump is better on the economy than she would be, and b, just to make the argument, to get the policy out there in a way theyd be interested in listening to. What a lot of these voters say in addition to the lesser of two evils line, which by the way is something i heard from more than one person i interviewed. And these were people that were selected for the new york timeS Polling at random. So this isnt like we sat a bunch of down we knew had a common interest of of any kind or things like that. These were a lot of random people selected in a poll, and i called a lot of them back. What they say in addition to the lesser of two evils, they felt a lot better during the trump years. Of course, inflation was a lot lower back then in the prepandemic days. And they dont spend a whole lot of time thinking about the controversies he creates. Look at what happened after the debate and that ridiculous lie about eating cats and dogs. Okay, they may have heard of that, but its not something thats in their News Feed constantly, you know, so if it is, its something they kind of tune out as noise. Yes, i found the same thing talking to the folks i spoke with. And you make the larger point not only are they not sort of swayed by trumps inflammatory rhetoric, a lot of them recognize that Kamala Harris has a better temperament, has a better disposition to be president. But even that Understanding And Belief isnt necessarily moving them decidedly into harris corner. Right, theyre Human Beings full of contradictions. We all are. We contain multitudes, jeremy. You could say i think Kamala Harris acts more president ial and at the same time say i think Donald Trump needs to shut his mouth and doesnt doesnt represent what i want to see in a president. They do think and this iS Probably just because he waS President for four years, that he would be more respected by world leaders. I think a lot of that also has to do with the fact shes a woman. Some of the voters i spoke with were skeptical the country would receive having a female president in a positive way. Theres been plenty of female Chief Executives around the world in other countries. The rest of the world seems to have gotten there first. But there is a big Question Mark over who she is and what she stands for still because, remember, shes only been in a candidate for two months usually by thiS Point we know these people for two years. Theyve been running for president for two years. She hasnt had that luxury of time. I just feel like there are deeper sort of breaks that im not sure more time would necessarily heal. And one of the things you talk about in your piece is this idea of masculinity and how some of these undecideds feel some of these democrats are antimale or the sort of traditional definitions of masculinity. Setting that aside, i mean its very hard for a woman to argue that shes, you know, proman given the fact shes trying to be the first Woman President in american history. I wonder if that sort of on its own is enough to, you know, make it a very steep climb for undecideds who in large part as you say are mostly men, Young Men. Yeah, its a really good point, and i think it that is an illustration of how many different factors are swimming around inside the heads of uncommitted, unhappily persuaded or unimpressed voters, because thats really what were talking about here, is voters unimpressed with each candidate. This is often not a moral decision. This is a practical decision. Who is going to improve my life . Am i going to by electing thiS Person, feel better about myself, feel like my family is more secure . And they cast aside, you know, all of the things that we know very well and you and i have both reported on about trumps serious character flaws, his abuse of power. Family indictments. It just doesnt have the same moral weight. And theyre going back and forth a little bit, too. Just because theyre saying Harris Today doesnt mean theyre saying harris tomorrow. Jeremy peters reporting On One of the most fascinating part of this whole election, thank you for your time, my friend. We have some Breaking News this evening to bring you tonight involving the mayor of americas largest city, this one. The new york times is reporting tonight Eric Adams has been indicted on federal charges. Nbc news has not independently verified that report, and The Times reports those charges remain sealed as of this evening. So we do not know what those charges are and what they include or do not include. Joining me now is Msnbc Correspondent lisa rubin. If you could for people outside new York City and inside new York City, could you put in perspective the wide circle of investigation that surrounds the mayor of our fair city . So, alex, tonight were only aware of one indictment, and so far The New York Times is reporting that only mayor Eric Adams is the subject of that indictment. But as you just noted, the last several months have been swirling with rumors of multiple investigations surrounding new yorks mayor, Eric Adams, and others in his closest circles. That includes former Police Commissioner Edward caban. The schools chancellor, david banks, who announced yesterday his the intent to retire in december. It includes deputy Mayor Shina white and ultimate other city aides, Campaign Aides and people associated with those folks including brothers, for example, of the School Commissioner and the School Chancellor. So there are multiple ongoing investigations. Our colleague had a Report Last Night where he indicated that there are at least five, six, or seven different investigations involving the mayor. That having been said, what we understand at thiS Point or at least believe at thiS Point is that the indictment that will be unsealed tomorrow concerns the first launched investigation or at least the first made public and thats about mayor adams Campaign Finance allegations, specifically allegations that he was illegally funneling money from foreign governments through his campaign and or accepting money from those foreign governments directly. A number of folks associated with his Campaign Finance operation were also the subject of searches throughout this last year. They include an aide who has been on leave from City Hall since, alex. Can you talk a little bit about the degree to which federal investigators have been circling around the mayor himself . If youve been paying attention to new York City politics, you know hiS Phones were seized. We have been leading up to this moment, and i think if you to watch him closely, when you saw the circle widen and then tighten around Eric Adams, the fact the mayorS Phones were seized was an indication he was going to be at the center of this. Can you tell us more about the Time Line here, lisa . Well, the mayorS Phones were seized, alex, several months ago. And of course while there was silence about the mayor himself, thats when the fed started closing in on other people close to the mayor, serving each Search Warrants or subpoenas on some of the people that i just mentioned. But last saturday iS Probably when some of this hit its apex. Thats when the Mayors Council whos also a former federal prosecutor resigned in a very terse later saying she appreciated the opportunity to serve but was resigning effective saturday evening. Most public officials and servants do not resign on a Saturday Night and particularly people who have familiarity with Lisas Reputation thought something must be very wrong for Lisa Zornberg to leave the administration at that moment. And one of the reasons leading to her resignation is had advised mayor adams a number of people in his administration the focus of these investigations should be separated from City Hall, they should no longer work there, and mayor adams wouldnt take her advice. At that point she wisely decided to step away from the organization particularly as the sips Grew Noisier that the feds were closing in on mayor adams himself, alex. Just to put a little more meat on the bone here, you mention five, six, seven different investigations. Nbc news can now report that the mayor has been indicted. There are going to be federal charges coming out of the Southern District Of New York expected tomorrow. They have been investigating federal prosecutors whether the mayor conspires with the Kirk Government and theyve also sought information related to five other countries, israel, china, qatar, south korea, and uzbekistan. We dont know if any of that was in the actual indictment, but those were things they were looking at. Turkey, israel, china, qatar, south korea, and uzbekistan. Lisa, explain for those of us who are a little Bit Sort of in confused about how one mayor would be able to be the mayor of, you know, one of the best cities in the world but also one of the craziest, most chaotic, expansive metropolises while also dealing with not one, not two but up to seven investigations . What does that practically look like and what does this mean for his ability to govern . Because as of right now the mayor is still in office. The mayor is still in office. And alex, the only person who can remove the mailer from office is the governor of the state of new york. So unless the mayor voluntarily resigns, he would have to be removed by governor Kathy Hochul from office. If the mayor were to resign voluntarily, the City Charter provides someone known as the Public Advocate becomes the mayor of the city of new york, but thats only temporary. Right now the Public Advocate is a man named Jumoni Williams who previously served in the city council. He would become mayor for around 60 days before a special election could be held. So that would really place new York City government in even more chaos than its currently understand. As we were just talking about a few moments ago, theres a big sense in the city right now i myself am a City Resident as are many of our colleagues theres a sense right now who is leading the city and whos in control . If a Deputy Mayor and a School Chancellor and former Police Commissioner and the current Police Commissioner are subject to investigations, who has the time and attention to devoted to governing this city much less the ethical standards necessary to govern americas largest and as you put it most chaotic city at this very moment . Msnbc legal correspondent, indispensable in this hour, loo lisa rubin, thank you for your time and thoughts, my friend. Joyce, just to reiterate what we have now Nbc News can report new York City mayor Eric Adams is expected to face federal charges by prosecutors out of the Southern District Of New York, and those charges could come as far as tomorrow, according to two sources familiar with the matter. Joyce, just your top Line Reaction first to the fact the feds are charging potentially reportedly the mayor of new York City. If that is, in fact, what happens, Eric Adams will become the first mayor in new York City history to be charged while in office. Your thoughts . So i think this looks like a classic federal public corruption investigation. Unfortunately, the Justice Department has repeatedly been in the business of indicting mayors who are involved in corruption. That doesnt come as a surprise i dont think to anyone. Theres been a number of investigations here. Joyce, im going to let you turn your phone off. Im going to do it magically. Hey, siri, stop my alarm. It happens. Just in terms of, youre talking about a classic corruption investigation, what we know the feds were interested in potential foreign donations and included turkey, israel, china, qatar, south korea, and uzbekistan. Lisa rubin mentioned there may be five, six, up to seven investigations. How would those what is the sort of Pecking Order of those investigations, and sort of how do you expect them to work in Concert Visa Vi these indictments that were going to be seeing Tomorrow Morning . So itS Possible that this is multiple sorts of branches of the same investigation, that in the course of doing one investigation, prosecutors stumbled upon other crimes and began branching out the investigation. That wouldnt be at all unusual. Much of the early interests, some of the early indication we have involve these investigations about turkey. Perhaps it was some sort of bribery or pay to play. We dont know, but prosecutors have likely been to the grand jury, obtained an indictment that will be unsealed, and well learn more about the details of what theyre alleging once they unseal that indictment, whether its limited simply to the turkey investigation, are there others . Will it only involve the mayor, or will there be multiple defendants in a conspiracy in this case . I should, again, for folks who havent been following this closely, and that is totally understandable, the investigation thus far, the reporting that we have for The New York Times, has focused on mr. AdamS Pressuring the Fire Department to approve a new high rise turkish consulate in midtown. Theyve examined free flights and flight up grades the mayor received from turkish airlines. They have also looked at the 2022 World Cup in qatar, which the mayor attended as well as, you know, information about the tickets he got to the World Cup in qatar. I mentioned this in my with lisa rubin. Were also looking at israel, china, qatar, south korea, and uzbekistan. They seized the mayorS Phones but maybe just phone, singular. What would you want them to get out of a seizure of the mayorS Phones in a case like this . Right. So the forensic investigators who look at phones are very sophisticated and able to obtain data that sometimes the individual whose phone it is believes they have deleted or cant be recovered. So it can be useful simply for recovering addresses and contacts and patterns of communications. If you have the appropriate probable cause you can get communications themselves. You might see searches on the phone, what has the individual whose Phone Youve seized been searching for . Phoneerize a gold mine, a real treasuretrove for investigators that can help you develop linkages between individuals and events as well aS Providing specific evidence that used for further prosecution. Joyce, when you talk about this is very much a quickly moving weather front, but when you talk about the Mayors Ability to lead the city on a practical matter facing federal indictments, i mean, how compromised will he be in terms of just basic management to say nothing of the moral and ethical questions around that . Well, look, as a practical matter obviously the answer is difficult. As a legal answer, people in our system of Criminal Justice are innocent until proven guilty. And frequently we see situations like this where people who are under indictment remain in office, particularly local leaders. The mayor of detroit waS Prosecuted by our colleague, barb mcquade, during the obama administration. In my district we prosecuted members of the Jefferson County of the county committee. And in many situations, those folks try to remain in office to hold on for as long aS Possible, and it sets up a difficult situation particularly when theyre charged with corruption while in office with conflicts of interest between their own personal interests and the citizens theyre supposed to serve. Msnbc legal analyst, joyce vance, great to get your perspective on this. It was our fortune you were booked for this evening. Thank you for your time tonight. Joining me now by phone is Nbc News investigative reporter Tom Winter. Tom, what can you tell us about the potentially looming federal indictment of the new York City mayor . And to be clear just reporting hes going to expect to face federal Charges Tomorrow by prosecutors out of the Southern District Of New York. The mayor in a statement to nbc newS Passed along through his spokesperson i always knew if i stood my ground for new yorkers i would become a target, and a target i became. I am innocent and ill fight this with every ounce of my strength and spirit. The Charges Today stemming from the longterm investigations as weve been reporting and have been reporting on for some time including investigations that have branched off to a number of different places. The new york sit Epolice Department being one of them. The Police Commissioner down in the last few weeks. But this investigation may center around the approval of a housing towards the or the building rather for the turkish consulate. And theres some questions. And what weve been told in the report previously is that federal investigators have been looking into whether adams had pressured the citys former Fire Commissioner or the Fire Chiefs to look into the possibility of getting some of the necessary Fire Approvals here in new York City completed on time. And so thats been a bit of a question. And if so, why did he pressure to get that building done on time . I think thats going to i think thats going to be, you know, a big Question Mark here. But, again, the specific nature of the charges, were not yet reporting. Were obviously working on it. No other News Organization in my knowledge is reporting the specific nature of the charges. What we are reporting is that this longterm investigation, which has led to the seizure of the mayorS Phones really an incredible moment when federal agents, and you can imagine this, approached the mayor trailed by his Security Detail because of the threats he receives, approached him, took his cellphone. Weve seen the cellphones of a number of new York City staffers being taken, of mayoral appointees, some of them very high ranked within city government, taken by the fbi. Theres a separate Police Investigation into the police department, and thats Being Led by agents assigned to the u. S. Attorneys office by the Southern District Of New York. Again, well see how all this goes and how it comes together. And ill be a little bit hesitant to mention other names because, of course, we dont have any indication yet of who or if anybody might be charged alongside the mayor, and so we want to be a little bit careful of that, but theres a been a number of people weve reported out in the past being at least subject or witness to this investigation. And i think tomorrow will be very interesting to see how this all develops. Nbc news investigative reporter Tom Winter with the latest. Thank you for the update, tom. We look forward to more as you have it. And if youre just joining us, the breaking News Tonight is that new York City mayor, Eric Adams, has been indicted on federal charges. We do not yet know what those charges are, but we do know for weeks the fbi has been pursuing multiple investigations related to adams as well as his administration and his allies. One of those investigations has focused on adams alleged ties the government of turkey. The new york times reported earlier this week that investigation also sought investigations related to five other countries including israel, qatar, south korea, and uzbekistan. It comes as Merrick Garland has been pursuing a number of officials. And that includes the recent conviction of new Jersey Senator Bob menendez for accepting bribes to benefit the governments of egypt and qatar. And the charges against Congressman Henry for allegedly acting as a foreign agent. Were waiting to learn what these new federal charges are, but the news this moment, this Hour Tonight is that new York City mayor Eric Adams is now the first mayor of the americas largest city to ever be federally indicted. The mayor has now released a statement responding to this news saying i always knew if i stood my ground for new yorkers, that i would be a target, and a target i became. If i am charged, i am innocent and i will fight this with every ounce of my strength and spirit. We have much more to get to this evening. Well be right back. O this evening. Well be right back. If youre just joining us, the breaking News Tonight is that Nbc News is reporting that new York City mayor Eric Adams is expected to face federal charges from prosecutors out of the Southern District Of New York, and he may face those charges as soon as tomorrow, according to two sources familiar with the matter. We will bring you more information, more updates on that as we get it. But first, the 2024 election. The latest The New York Times Siena Polling shows a 10point Swing in the state of arizona. Donald trump is now up 5 points in the state where Kamala Harris was once ahead by the very same margin only last month. 10 points, what . According to the same Poll Arizona voters rate the economy as their Number One concern, and 56 of them say they trust Donald Trump more than Kamala Harris on that specific issue. Joining me now is democratic Senator Mark Kelly of arizona. Senator kelly, thank you for being here and rolling with the Breaking News as we have it. Let me just first start with the 10point Swing in a poll. First of all, how much heat are you paying hiS Poll . I ran two really close races in 2020 and 2022 and saw a lot of polls. They come like every week there are a lot of them. Theres a lot of differences. There are polls that would show me up by 13 points, others that a week later would show be up by 1 or 2 or even tied. So we see this in arizona. I think what really matters here, though, is theres 45 days until the election, and Kamala Harris on every issue whether its the economy, whether its the border, whether its women Health Care rights, arizonans are going to see shez absolutely without a doubt the right person to be the next president of the united states. So i expect her to win arizona. I expect her to win the election. When you talk about those issues, and just want to dig a little bit deeper. And again, i understand what youre saying about polls. They go all over the place, but there was a weird dynamic uncovered in this latest poll which is 58 of arizonians support proposition 139, and that is the right to abortion initiative. Its a Ballot Measure. Of those people who support it, 87 support Kamala Harris, but 33 support Donald Trump. Are we to think that in arizona there are a healthy number of prochoice trump voters . And if so, what do you make of that . Well, i hope not because he is the guy that took away this fundamental right from women in arizona and across the country. I mean he owns it. He says he broke roe v. Wade. There are women in other across the country that are dying because of a decision that Donald Trump made and his just, you know, aggressive desire to go after this. He has said he thinks women should be punished if they get an abortion, and he wants to throw doctors into jail. I was just in georgia the other day, and there was a woman there that had recently died because she couldnt get the Health Care she needed because of Donald Trump. She had a 6yearold kid. This kid is going to grow up without his mother because of Donald Trumps action on this issue. Arizonians know that he took this away from them. We have an opportunity to fix this in two ways. First Way Weve got a Ballot Initiative, so arizonians are going to come out and vote to restore these rights. The second way is to elect Kamala Harris aS President because she has made it very clear she is going to you know, will sign into law, if we can get it through the congress, and i think we will, sign into Law A right for women to be able to control their own bodies and their own Health Care. The other Ballot Initiative that is supported by republicans to maybe reduce turnout is a Ballot Measure on immigration, efforts to crackdown on undocumented migrants. Does it concern you that is going to be a winning issue for them as far as driving turnout to support republicans at the top of the ticket . I think arizonians see through this stuff, you know, thatS Presented by the republicans in the state of arizona. You know, not the republican party, the normal John Mccain republicans but the Donald Trump republicans. And im going to have an opportunity here to go down to the border with the Vice President here on friday. Im excited shes going to be there, get to show her the arizona border, get to talk about an issue she really cares about, shes worked hard on while in the White House as Vice President she worked with us to try to pass a bipartisan border security bill. Democrats and republicans coming together. But Donald Trump wouldnt allow my senate colleagues, my republicans in the senate to do anything on this issue. Told them they couldnt vote for it, so they ran away from it. When sheS President , we can sign that legislation into law. Ive got to ask you because you know well what its like to run a Senate Race in arizona. The polling also shows the democratic candidate is leading Kari Lake thats a 63 margin. While harris is trailing trump in arizona the democratic Senate Candidate is ahead. Can you talk about that dynamic . Do you see Ticket Splitting be a phenomenon of particular interest in arizona . Theres always going to be a little bit of that. There was a little bit of that in my race. When you compare ruben to Kari Lake, hes a u. S. Marine, really cares about our country. Kari lake is still litigating two elections. So in both races, the top of the ticket and the Senate Race, you have a very clear contrast between people that want to move this country forward, the Vice President , Kamala Harris wants to cut costs for american families, bring down the price of prescription drugs, child care. Donald trump, he just wants to double down on big Tax Cuts for the wealthiest americans, drag us back into the past. Senator mark kelly, were going to be looking at that trip youre take wg the Vice President on friday. Thank you for spending a little time with me tonight. Appreciate you. Thank you, alex.
