Against his life. Overseas, growing u. S. Concern the war between Israel And Lebanon is escalating as hezbollah for the first time fires a missile at Tel Aviv. Aimed at headquarters of the mossad, the spy agency, but intercepted before it could strike. This after israels biggest attacks in years against Southern Lebanon. Joining me this hour, john kirby. The president s big challenges with two wars in his final months in office. Israels ambassador to the united states, as a potential Ceasefire Deal to free the hostages held for nearly a year In Gaza may be out of reach. Following shocking New Details about the July Shooting that nearly killed former President Trump. We will speak to the top democrat on the House Task Force investigating that Assassination Attempt. Good day, everyone. Im Andrea Mitchell in New York for the gathering of World Leaders here, including from iran. Former President Trumps campaign has announced that the republican nominee was briefed in person by a top u. S. Intelligence official that iran has threatened to assassinate him. Trump forms a long list who have around the clock security, costing taxpayers millions ever year because of the ongoing iranian threats. Here is how irans new Vice President reacted to my question about all this this week. There are numerous american officials from the previous administration and this administration, military as well as diplomatic, who are under 24hour Guard because of, they say, threats of assassination from iran through third parties. We do not assassinate people. The fact of the matter is, they assassinated a revered iranian general. General sulamani. Tony blinken tells Savannah Guthrie that similar threats from iran have been an enduring problem for years. This is something we have been tracking intensely for a long time. An ongoing threat by iran against a number of senior officials, and some people who are serving in the administration. Its something we take very, very seriously. We are looking at it very carefully. I dont have any further information to share, but know that we are watching this very carefully. We begin with Nbc News CorrespondentYamiche Alcindor covering the Harris Campaign and Vaughn Hillyard covering the trump campaign. Yamiche, lets talk about the Harris Team going to pittsburgh today. Its her eighth trip to this critical state. On the economy, this is where she lags most behind Donald Trump. Reporter thats right, andrea. Vice president harris is here in Battleground Pennsylvania to deliver a major economic speech here in pittsburgh. This is a speech thats focused on connecting with voters. Campaign aides say she wants to make sure people dealing with the price of their groceries, the price of gas, their wages and not being happy with the financial struggles that they are dealing with, that they can think of the Vice President as someone trying to craft policy and a vision that will help their lives. As you said, this is an issue, an area where she does have room to grow. Look at our Nbc News polling, former President Donald Trump is plus nine when you ask voters when it deals with the idea of who would deal best with the economy. He is plus eight when you ask voters, who would be best with inflation and dealing with the Cost Of Living. He has an advantage. The Harris Campaign is pointing out that they are still being able to close this gap, because in january, he was Plus 22, former President Trump, when voters were comparing him to former president or comparing him to president biden. He was Plus 22 on Inflation And Cost of living when voters were comparing him to president biden. They say they are closing the gap. When you look at the voters that they want to grow, pennsylvania is a diverse state. When you look at Vice President harris when it comes to latino voters, you have Plus 19 . Shes doing three points better than biden. For black voters, Plus 78 . Biden was Plus 57 . The Harris Campaign is feeling like shes Making Gains but her messaging on the economy, the issue so many voters say is the number one issue, not just thinking about voting but in their lives overall, that shes trying to center that here. The numbers tell a story. The Vice President will say she wants to grow and make an opportunity economy. Look out for those words and a practical and pragmatic speech today. Yamiche, lets talk about her problem with men. The male voters are still reluctant to take her seriously. I cant tell you anecdotally. They are not acknowledging her experience on the senate intelligence committee, her years as Vice President , the fact that she, according to all my reporting from National Security officials i have traveled with her to foreign policy conferences, she reads her stuff. Shes a former prosecutor. Shes very studious. Shes learned a lot as Vice President. She attends the president ial daily briefs, something Donald Trump, when he did take them, took them in picture form, not even in written form. Its remarkable, because theres this Gender Gap that we see in the polling when you talk to people about Vice PresidentHarris Versus former President Trump. I should say, i have talked to people close to Vice President harris. They are frustrate and concerned that people, especially maybe men are not seeing her as intelligent and prepared and qualified. We are living in a country where no woman has been the President Of The United States. There is this issue where shes trying to break that glass ceiling. Shes a black woman, a South Asian woman trying to go for this job. They are trying to work on that. I think its very clear that in talking about the economy, they are trying to make sure that americans, including men in particular who want to start businesses and other things, they see themselves as represented in Vice President harris. Vaughn, lets talk about how confident the Trump Team is about being still ahead of her or neck and neck, but ahead on the economy, the Cost Of Living, even though inflation has come down. Reporter right. This is from the trump campaign. They see the poll numbers that show him with a sizable favorability on the economy. And issues tied to the money thats going into Voters Bank accounts. For the trump campaign, thats where you see them trying to hone in on that, not only at a Stop Yesterday in georgia, here today in North Carolina and are trying to emphasize their through candidate Donald Trump an increased attention to the idea of implementing tariffs in sizable ways. Not only on goods from Auto Manufacturing parts but literally all goods coming in from whether it be europe or china, mexico, canada into the united states. For the trump campaign, its emphasizing a greater use of the Executive Branch in order to try to ignite an increase in domestic manufacturing and production. Of course, that could come with consequences. Vice president Mike Pence as well as Mitch Mcconnell over the last 24 hours have been outspoken in their criticism of Donald Trumps assertions that he would implement even greater tariffs than he did during his first administration. We should note when we talk about tariffs, Donald Trump in 2018, 2019 would argue that they would ultimately lead to good Trade Deals for the united states and it was worth the shortterm financial difficulties for particularly agricultural industry but also major Manufacturing Plants in the united states that relied on parts coming in from overseas in order to ultimately force countries like china to makE Trade deals. China did do that in early 2020 but ended up not fulfilling the initial obligations it set, particularly around its purchasing of u. S. Agricultural goods. There was none of the Ip Theft addressed. A lot of the reasoning that Donald Trump used in his first administration to implement tariffs did not come to fruition. Now he is making the case to voters that tariffs should be implemented in a second Trump Administration for the purposes of adding to a surplus of u. S. Coffers to cover what would otherwise make up for the lack of revenue that comes in through his extensive Tax Cuts that he is proposing implementing come 2025. A top Israeli Military Official is telling troops they have been striking all day to, quote, prepare for a possible Ground Invasion into lebanon, to prepare the ground, in addition to calling up two Reserve Brigades to its northern border. Hezbollah targeted Tel Aviv for the first time with a missile aimed at the israeli Spy Headquarters but intercepted by their defense. Israel hit new targets in Southern Lebanon where more than 570 people were killed. Israel has been ignoring u. S. Pleas for calm. Savannah guthrie asked blinken why israel is not paying more attention to the u. S. Does the u. S. Support what israel is doing right now in terms of this escalation in order to later deescalate and get to the Negotiating Table . We support solving the problem of making sure people can go back. The best way to solve it is through diplomacy, not through war. A diplomatic way of saying that the u. S. Is not in sync with israel. Joining me, leon panetta, Cia Director and Defense Secretary in the obama administration, former white House Chief of staff for president clinton and a Veteran Diplomat and former Deputy Secretary of state wendy sherman. Secretary panetta, savannah asked Secretary Blinken about israel not giving the Heads Up about the pager attacks. Blinken said its nice not to be surprised. Is there a growing divide its been growing for a while. Is it reaching an important point because its operational on the ground between the netanyahu Government Policies and this administration . Theres no question that there are growing concerns about the relationship. It goes back a ways. Obviously, a lot of concern about not being able to achieve a ceasefire, which at this point of the game is probably the only hope for some kind of solution. So, yeah, its not a good situation right now. I think if your allies one of the things thats very important is to not lose trust. Its important for both sides to be transparent so that we understand just exactly where this war is headed. Right now, i have to tell you wendy knows this as well when you look at Middle East wars, they all follow a certain pattern. There isnt a clear objective. Theres some question as to just exactly what kind of goal are they trying to seek . They continue to blow the hell out of Each Other with missiles flying in all directions. They eventually get exhausted after a period of time, and then ultimately, they try to resolve it in some way that doesnt really answer the problem, but just kicks the can down the road. Im afraid this is following that pattern. Lets talk about the pagers for a moment. Current and former military officials describing to me On The Air their admiration for the tactic, the ingenuity, originality of it, their ability to perform covertly. You have written otherwise. Others have been critical. Why do you feel that this new weapon is a dangerous tactic . Well, look, ive got a couple concerns. One is that we have introduce aid new weapon of war. When you basically mobilize the Supply Chain and create bombs in communication technology, that really raises the concern about indiscriminate killing. Thats one concern. The other is that i could understand this if it were tied to some kind of strategic goal. If they were doing this as a step towards taking some kind of military action, then i would understand that. But that didnt happen really here. What happened is they suddenly had an Intelligence Breakdown and they wound up just blowing things up. I just think that when you are involved in something like this kind of technology, its going to require a lot more care. Ambassador sherman wendy sherman, former Deputy Secretary of state sherman, Secretary Blinken says diplomacy is the only way to solve this problem. How can that be accomplished when both sides, hamas, led by sinwar, israel led by netanyahu, and primary two members of his coalition, critics of both sides say they keep raising the ante. We are in a very tough situation. Theres no doubt about it, andrea. A degree with much of what former secretary of Defense Panetta has said about there very tough moment. I think its interesting ive been watching the speeches at the u. N. General assembly. We heard the new president of iran reach out his hand to the west and say, he wants to reengage. His foreign minister, my counterpart during the iran negotiations, wants to reach out and start negotiations. Quite frankly, iran has to take some actions to show that it is a partner were sitting down with or an adversary, more exactly to sit down with. They could do that by stop targeting americans, by telling hezbollah to pull back. They could do that by telling sinwar, the head of hamas, a terrorist organization, to indeed agree to a ceasefire. On the israeli side, theres clearly internal dissent inside of israel with some israelis wondering what the strategic aim is. Whether this is a war that will exhaust itself with no answer. I appreciate what Secretary Blinken said today. It is a time to ensure that we have leaders who are steady, who are careful, who are thoughtful. That we press our Ally Israel in a direction we think will it willy lead to Peace And Security. That includes a Twostate Solution so that palestinians have a horizon for their own peace, their own security, their own dignity. This is a hellish time for the people who have to try to live their lives in all parts of israel as well as the entire region. I hope the community, including the gulf cooperation council, with whom the secretary met at the u. N. General assembly, will push for diplomacy, because otherwise, were going to see days ahead that are quite terrible. I want to ask both of you about the threat against threat from iran. Credibly reported and confirmed by the community that Donald Trump was just briefed, that there are new threats against him. We know about former officials. Now he is another. This is a new threat. At this point, it is im told safe to conclude that Vice President harris is favored by iran and that Donald Trump is favored by vladimir putin. Where does that put us . Wendy sherman, you first. I would say that Vice President harris will be a very tough and cleareyed leader in dealing with iran. She understands exactly who and what they are. They back these militias. They have taken american citizens. They are targeting american citizens. So i would say to iran, yes, we believe in diplomacy, but do not mistake our desire for diplomatic solutions for a tough approach to this situation. And as she said in her own speech at the democratic national convention, she believes that the u. S. Military has to be the greatest lethal force in the world. Former President Trump has said he would be tough but, in fact, he walked away from the joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action which led iran to pull back from constraints on its nuclear program and put us in, my view, analytically, a more dangerous situation. President putin appears to favor former President Trump. And, indeed, its very interesting that the former president has not said that he believes we should stand by ukraine. We have certainly heard president zelenskyy Call Out at the u. N. General assembly for the world to stay with ukraine to ensure sovereignty, territorial integrity and the right of countries to choose their own political future. Leon panetta . The fundamental responsibility of a President Of The United States is to be commander in chief and stand up to tyrants, stand up to terrorists, and stand up to our enemies. The reality is that whether its iran, whether its russia, whether its china, whether its north korea, whether its i. S. I. S. , those are enemies that have to be dealt with, with strength and with a clear message that the united states will not allow them to jeopardize our National Security. When it comes to President Trump, you know, he says he can solve all of the problems. Sure, he could solve all the probles simply by giving our enemies what they want. Thats the way he operates. Thats not what america needs right now. We need a strong leader who understands that we have to stand by our principles, by our Constitution And Work with our allies to try to ultimately provide peace in the world. Thanks to both of you. We appreciate it. Next, the communication breakdown. New details out today driving home just how disconnected the Secret Service really was with Local Pennsylvania Police around the attempt on former President Trumps life. We will talk to the top democrat on the House Task Force investigating the shooting. Thats next. You are watching Andrea Mitchell reports on msnbc. Might keep us stuck on the couch. There are shocking new Revelations Today about the Security Failures made by the Secret Service in the first Assassination Attempt targeting Donald Trump in butler, pennsylvania. The bipartisan report finds the agency knew about a suspicious man with a Range Finder 27 minutes before the shooting. The Committee Report also outlining breakdowns in communications, the failure to rush Donald Trump off the stage, the resources denied, a Tech Failure with the Secret Service drone, and an inability of the Secret Service to coordinate effectively with local Law Enforcement. Tomorrow, the House Task Force will hold its first hearing with testimony from members of the local and State Police among others. Joining me now, ranking member of the Task Force on the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, democratic Colorado Congressman Jason crowe, a military veteran and former army ranger. You have read the Senate Report thats out today. Was there anything new to you . Thanks for having me on today. I have reviewed the report. It highlights many of the things that the House Task Force has uncovered in the preliminary stages of our investigation. We are conducting a longerterm investigation that will culminate in december when we will submit our final report. We are also conducting a review of the most recent incident in florida as well. The issues are around communication, lack of Command And Control, the line of sack, lack of securing the building where the shooter took shots, those are things we have uncovered and have reviewed in our first stage of our investigation. What about the Drone Failure . Thats certainly another one of them. I was an army ranger. I served in iraq and afghanistan. When i took my visit, the Task Force visited butler, pennsylvania, last month. When we visited, the first thing i looked at, where is the high ground, where are the lines of sight, how do you secure the platform where former President Trump was . These are all things that were evident to me that were not done by the Secret Service. Ultimately, its the Secret Service that has responsibility. They relied on local Law Enforcement, but they didnt provide guidance and Command And Control that is their purview. You got up on the roof, i think. Members of your committee got on the roof to look at the line of sight. After the shots were fired, there were still failures. Donald trump waiting for his shoes. Getting up and fist pumping, waving to the crowd as Secret Service were trying to rush him away. The first rule is to get the protectee down and into an armed vehicle and away from the crisis. What if there had been a second or third shooter, an iranian hitman in the bushes . What if there had been . Absolutely right. There were a series of a cascading series of failures from Sight Selection and cite preparation to lastminute rehearsals and inability to secure. Local Law Enforcement identified the shooter before Donald Trump went on stage. As a suspicious person. They didnt know it was the shooter at the time, but recognized him as a suspicious person. That was not able to be communicated to the Secret Service because there was not a unified communication system. Then, of course, after the shooting as well. Some of this goes to problems that day on site. But also cultural issues, Training Issues and the paradigm of the Secret Service. We are looking at that. Is the Secret Service structured right . Do they provide security for the current environment, which is very high risk right now . Do they have the resources and personnel to do the job . Quickly, does his detail are they too close to him . Why did they let him stand up . Thats one of the things we are looking at. I dont think theres any indication they were too close to him. From a relationship standpoint. We are going to look at actions, as we call it, actions on the objective. When you are in the heat of the moment, did they respond the way they were supposed to . I think its important to point out here that when acting Director Rowe came before our Task Force and gave us a full briefing on their afteraction review, he explained he painted the picture of where the Secret Service is right now. Their agents are red lined, is the phrase he used. They work 80, 90 plus hours a week. They are in the field three weeks out of a month. We cannot ask folks to do this, to be working 110 in perpetuity and expect them to do what we are asking them to do. Additional resources will be part of the answer here. [music playing] the Idf Chief of staff says the military is preparing for a possible Ground Operation in lebanon. This as hezbollah launches missiles toward Tel Aviv. Israel is striking new targets in Southern Lebanon. Joining me now is ambassador michael herzog, Israels Ambassador to the united states. Thank you for being with us. Prime Minister Netanyahu has given a Video Message saying that he is determined to return all of those thousands of people, more than 60,000, maybe 100,000 people who have been away from their homes since october 8th. That means more war with the north. Lets explain how we got here. Hezbollah has been attacking israel since october 8. Hamas launched a war, an unprovoked war against israel. They have fired over 8,000 rockets into israel, over 1,000 antitank missiles and hundreds of drones. Themselves to gaza. They have been saying as long as Theres WarIn Gaza, we will in a way it gave hamas and sinwar the key to stability in lebanon along the border. As a result, Tens Of Thousands of israelis had to evacuate their homes. Over 60,000 and without any idea when they can go back. This is intolerable. We said all along, we are willing to give diplomacy a chance if that can settle the issue. Of course, thats preferable. We do not seek war. Nor are we deterred from war. If diplomacy doesnt work, i think we have to result to other means to change their calculus and return our people to their homes. What would the u. S. Do if so many people were to evacuate their homes because a Neighboring Entity fires missiles and rockets at you . What the Secretary Of State is saying, that to escalate with this offensive in the air, on the ground, on pagers, is no way to deescalate. It makes the people more its more dangerous to go back to their homes with the War Heating up. As i said, we are not pushing for war. If hezbollah doesnt change its behavior and continues to tie itself to gaza, it leaves us with no other option but to push further and further militarily. Were not focusing only on military activities. We are degrading their capabilities in an effective manner. We are working very closely with the u. S. Administration on a diplomatic outcome. An Off Ramp that will allow the parties to deescalate. Savannah surgery asked Secretary Blinken today about a number of instances recently, not just assassinations but the pager explosions, Air Strikes in lebanon, where the u. S. Had no Heads Up, where they were blindsided. One time even as Secretary Blinken was landing in cairo for diplomacy, the pagers went off. His response was, we prefer not to have surprises. Why blindside your closest ally and chief supplier of arms . All i can say without going into specific details is that we have very close daily consultations with the u. S. Administration, various branchs of the administration. They know what were doing, by and large. They understand the logic what we are doing. Doesnt mean we always agree on everything. I wouldnt use the Term Blindside the u. S. Our consultations are very close. Isnt it more difficult to have any kind of ceasefire In Gaza which hezbollah and the other iranian proxies observed in november, the brief pause. Theyre not going to observe theres not going to be a ceasefire In Gaza while this is all going on. The hostages may not survive. We have been trying to get hosttages out for months now. President biden came out with a framework which we supported and endorsed and endorsed by the u. N. At the time. Then the u. S. Put forward a Row Proposal in august which we exbraced. We are waiting for hamas to say yes to the framework and to the details that are there. Part of the public discourse does not get the full picture. It takes two to tango. I dont see hamas in a zone of agreement. That is very unfortunate. You are right, every day that passes by endangers their lives. We have to do our utmost to get them out. We are not alone in this game. To date, as the u. S. Said, hamas has still not said yes to the biden framework. Neither has israel, to certain elements. Arguably i know you have to go. But arguably, its harder to negotiate with hamas when the political leader was assassinated In Tehran and now it means dealing with sinwar in the tunnel, who doesnt communicate very easily. I will say that whoever think thinks the leader of hamas was a moderate i didnt call him moderate. Is very wrong. I can tell you on the issue of hostage deal, he was most hawkish. Ambassador herzog, its good to have your view and have you here. Thank you very much. Thanks for having me. We look forward to the prime Ministers Speech friday. This week, the wellfinanced republican Challenger Dave Mccormick appearing with Donald Trump in Western Pennsylvania as the former president took the swipe against the incumbent Bob Casey. Bob casey, i can tell you, i was there for four years at the highest level. I met everybody. This guy does nothing for pennsylvania. Not going to help your oil, your fracking. He is not going to help anything. Senator Bob Casey of pennsylvania joins me live now. Senator, thank you very much. When i say you are a veteran democratic Pennsylvania Senator and your father before, of course, the governor, longstanding official Bob Casey, your name is synonymous with politics in pennsylvania, democratic politics. But this is becoming a close race. Whats going on here . Is it the economy . Andrea, great to be with you. Look, as a candidate for reelection, i have to earn every vote, no matter who the opponent. Its a race thats close for one basic reason. Were being outspent in a big way. We have had great support from across the state. But here is the dynamic playing out in our race, which is unlike any other race in the country. You have a Super Pac set up for one candidate, my opponent. That Super Pac has 50 Million bucks that they are spending. They spent probably half of that already. That number is going to go higher because they have their man. He is the candidate thats going to support their billionaire and corporate Tax Cuts. They know that. I voted against them and will vote against the big corporate Tax Cuts again when they try it in 2025. He is going to they know he is going to support them. Thats why its close. In their candidate, they have someone who spent his time as a Hedge Fund Ceo investing in china, not just generally, investing in Chinas Mill Milit the largest producer of fentanyl and chinese oil companies. Making money, a lot of money into his own pocket by investing in foreign adversaries of the united states. Pennsylvania could be the key not just to the senate, which is teetering 50 50, but to the White House. If Kamala Harris were to win the White House and the republicans stay control of the senate, she cant get her people confirmed. Shes going to have a tough time getting policies through. Why arent the democrats pouring more money into pennsylvania . Were getting a lot of help. I know Vice President harris has spent a lot to get her message out. I expect both races to be very close. The other side has a lot of resources. We have to fight back. In the senate race. Its less of a challenge in the president ial race. We need to continue to urge people to help us. If you can pitch in, those listening, go to bobcasey. Com to help us. The economy is the subject of her speech in pittsburgh this afternoon. What do you want to hear from her . She talks about the middle class. Does she need to be more specific and put more meat on the bone . I think Vice President harris has worked really hard as a president ial candidate the last couple of weeks now to directly speak to the needs that the middle class has. That middle Class Tax Cut is something i support. We have to advocate for that. We have a big decision to make next year on tax policy. We cant go down the road that washington has been on for four years where every time theres a tax bill, the middle class gets left aside and the large corporations and people making hundreds of millions, even into the billions are getting all the Tax Breaks. Thats why the choice is so clear. My opponent and republicans generally are not on the side of giving the middle Class ATax Break. They have told people they want to double down on this reckless scheme to jack up the debt by trillions of dollars by giving away the store again. I think its going to be a clear choice. Her focus on the middle Class And on manufacturing, which gets us right back to china. The rise of china is directly attributable to the loss of manufacturing jobs in states like pennsylvania. Some have estimated almost 150,000 jobs lost in the last 20 years in manufacturing, just in pennsylvania, and solely attributable to chinas entry into the world trade organization. Thats why my opponents investments in china contributed to the rise of china and literally hurt Pennsylvania And Hurt pennsylvania workers. Thats going to be an important issue in my race. Our Latest Polling shows Kamala Harris on the economy is nine points behind Donald Trump. Thats closing the gap, because Joe Biden was 22 points behind Donald Trump on the economy. People are worried about the Cost Of Living. Inflation has come down. The fed cut rates. That will improve but not quickly enough to help you in your race and Kamala Harris in her race. What has to happen to try to narrow that gap on the economy, which is what most people care about . Youre right, andrea. Its a great question because Cost Of Living is an issue for people. No matter what the Unemployment Numbers are, which are low, the Inflation Numbers are going down, thats great. But people are feeling it at the grocery store, buying Food And Household items. And thats attributable to one thing, greedflation. These big corporations ripping off families by jacking up the cost of food, these big huge Food Conglomerates jacking up the cost of food because they had an opening. They had the pandemic and they saw an opening and they just jacked up their prices and those prices have remained intolerably too high. So weve got to make sure we pass price gouging legislation, which i support and the Vice President has supported and talked about on the campaign. And to get back to the earlier question, weve got to roll back those big corporate Tax Breaks because be obviously these big companies didnt need a 2 TrillionTax Break when they were just a couple years later jacking up their prices. So i think thats real life for people, whether its Food Prices or the cost of Housing Or Child care. Weve got to meet them where they are. Theres probably a lot of misogyny going on there also because men are still lagging behind in the polling. But thats hard to hard to quantify. Senator Bob Casey, thank you very much. Its great to see you. Appreciate it. Thanks, andrea. We look forward and one more reminder, catch All In this evening. This is a special event. An allout war is possible, but i think theres also the opportunity, were still in play to have a settlement that could fundamentally change the whole region. President biden on The View earlier earlier today on abc. With the Middle East on edge as israel says it is preparing the ground for an invasion into lebanon, and the exchange of fire escalating. Joining me now is white House Communication Adviser for National Security john kirby. Welcome. Thank you for being here. Lets start with israel and the strategy. The strategy for hezbollah. The strategy with israel. Israel using pagers, exploding pagers. Blindsiding the u. S. Arguably on several instances, not giving them advance warning. There was an assassination of the Hamas LeaderIn Tehran. And an Air Assault and now calling up the troops and saying theyre ready for potentially a Ground Invasion. Well, israelis have been signaling now for quite some days that they were going to turn their attention to this northern front. And as you heard the president say just this morning and quite frankly yesterday in his General Assembly speech, we believe that theres still time and space for diplomacy to work here. We dont believe that if your goal, as the prime minister has said, is to get families back to their homes and those kibbutzes and those towns and villages south of the border, that war is the way to do it. We still think Theres Room to deescalate through diplomacy, and thats exactly what were working on. Even as were here in New York city. A senior official saying that you dont escalate to deescalate. And the ambassador, israeli ambassador was just here and said theyve had all of these provocations and that theyve got to get people back in their homes. Prime Minister Netanyahu did a Video Today saying that those people will get back to their homes. Why is it safer for them to be in their homes in the north if theres an allout war going on . Well, thats our point. We dont believe that an allout war is the way to get them back to their homes and to do so in a sustainable way, andrea so, they can stay back home. They dont have to leave again. Now, look, i also have to say, you know, israels in a tough Neighborhood And Theyve been suffering a lot of Rocket Attacks from hezbollah. They have a right to defend themselves. They have a right to eliminate the Terrorist Threat to their people. And we understand that. Theyre still facing a threat by hamas, which is why were continuing to help them do that. But again, escalating this to an allout war seems counterproductive to what is the stated objective, which is Peace And Security along that line. We talk to them all of the time. One of our negotiators was meeting Amos Hockstein was meeting with Defense Minister gallant, and he did say that weve got to go with a Military Operation in the north but not this scale. We did not have a headsup of this scale. Well, ill let the israelis speak to their operations. As you know, its a sovereign nation no, im speaking about the u. S. Saying that we did not have notification of the extent of this operation. Again, ill let them speak to their operations. And obviously we have our diplomatic conversations with the israelis, and ill leave it in that space alone. We understand what theyre trying to do. We certainly respect the need to go after that threat. But we just dont believe that an allout war is the best path forward here. The pentagon has recommended the use of White Phosphorus in ukraine. Does the White House go along with that . We have some announcements to make in the next day or two about support for ukraine. I think ill is that a good idea . We are going to make sure that ukraine has the tools and the capabilities that they need and that were focused on. Them being able to succeed longrange weapons into russia . No change on that policy. And the pagers. Incredible amount of ingenuity in this, but isnt that opening up a whole new front, destabilizing the whole world on communications . I wont speak to those incidents in particular, but what i will say, kind of go back to what i said before and what the president has made clear. Everything weve been doing, andrea, since the 8th Of October has been meant for two things. One, to make sure israel can defend itself. And two, that were not broadening this war, were not deepening it. Before i lose you, quickly, we now know that there was a threat from iran against Donald Trumps life and that theyve interfered and hacked. What is your message to iran about that . We have talked very plainly about Irans Election Interference and and what about the threat to his life . This is something weve been monitoring for quite a while. And its not just the former president but its other former officials in his administration. This is something that the iranians have expressed interest in, and its stuff were monitoring it closely. Were out of time. Thank you. Thank you so much. And that does it for us. Jose diazbalart picks up the coverage right now
