Harris using her platform to urge people to imagine and reckon with this Plan Trump immigration policy, as trump publicly vowed harsher and more violent crackdowns next year in we wins. Im going to play you the full statement here and some other big things that harris has been saying. But before i play that, lets be clear, the factual context and reporting matters. Harris is citing Donald Trumps past policies including how they sometimes illegally and often harshly targeted immigrants and their families and sometimes their children. And so, again, before i play harris for you, with regard to that history, Big Picture top line, i could tell you, Fact Check and true. And many americans may want to forget what it was like back then. But its important to confront that recent history and know and see these facts as the context for Harriss Warning which im also about to play. So, the history, Donald Trump ran on an illegal religious ban and then implemented a related Mideast Country Ban and they claimed was something different than his originally planned muslim ban and implemented a policy to divide up families. He resisted that history and the backlash at the time. [ Crowd Chanting ] this is what democracy looks like believe me, carrying children from the arms of their mother and their father is not the right decision. It is a america that we believe in . No. Is this liberty . No. [ Crowd Chanting ] hey, hey, ho ho, the muslim ban has got to go. You have a right to talk to your children and you dont even know where your children are. Then president trumps Travel Ban immediately sparked confusion, a type of rolling chaos, those protests, at u. S. Airports around the country, and the ban was paused by court to later be narrowed. The Trump Separation Policy was a crackdown to punish and discourage migration by elevating cruelty against children as a type of policy. Kamala harris, the former prosecutor and current policymaker is citing all of that and putting this through her platform and her campaign and mega phone and on the front burner and urging people to look at that past, to consider how it would shape the future in a trump second term. And she did this while addressing the Congressional Hispanic Caucus today. Here is that warning about Donald Trumps Mass Deportation plan. Donald trump and his extremist allies will keep trying to pull us backwards. We all remember what they did to tear family as part. And now they have pledged to carry out the largest deportation, a Mass Deportation in american history. Imagine what that would look like and what that would be. How is that going to happen . Massive raids . Massive Detention Camps . What are they talking about . What are they talking about . A fair question. Harris, again, invoking the history to look at the choice about our future as a country, as a society and shes taking on trump and the details, the serious actual content of project 2025 seriously. You cant just kind of convince everyone to read the whole thing and at the dnc in different nights they hit different pieces of it. But this is a substantive conversation. You could be a nonpartisan, fair minded and openminded person and say what is in project 2025 and how does that affect us and is that what you want to vote for. And in the same address, Kamala Harris broadened out to the plans and the debates over Abortion Rights and Health Care and taxes. Many of these Trump Abortion bans make no exception for rape an incest. It is immoral. It is immoral. She will talk with her priest, her pastor, her rabbi, her imam, but not the government telling her what to do. But they will also give billions of dollars of Tax Cuts to billionaires and corporates. That is part of the big contract. And harris and her team see the contrast as the key overarching message in this Home Stretch. They want a clear contrast just as she did in the new interview at the National Association Of Black Journalists. Like the debate, it embodied, it featured as reality, not just rhetoric, a contrast with Donald Trumps appearance before that same group. And like the debate, once you see the back and forth, it is hard to unsee. I dont think ive ever been asked a question so in such a horrible manner, first question. I have been the best president for the black population since abraham lincoln. Better than better than president so i appreciate the spirit of the question but ill tell you ive often been asked this question and the way ive had to respond by saying that i think it is very important. How define dei, go ahead. Diversity equity and inclusion. And go ahead. Is that your definition. Would you give me a definition. Sir im asking you a question, you asked to define. Define it for me. When you are bestowed with a microphone that is that big, there is a profound responsibility that comes with that. A profound responsibility. And lets be clear, responsibility is how you do your work, your professionalism, your fairness, and in the case of the u. S. Government and what happens when you take the oath of office, all of that is different an ideology. And on that score we have more news for you tonight. And that embrace, lets be clear, has come despite not because of policy differences, as harriss Coalition Span from the center to the left of the Democratic Party as well to cultural figures that could fill stadiums, from Taylor Swift to the new endorsements from Pop Star Billie eilish this week. They joined Dick Cheney. And so, i told you before we could go from the serious to the lighter tone, let me just ask you straight up, seriously, who else, in fact, what else in our entire country could bring these three together on anything . Im serious. Im talking swift, cheney, Billie Eilish. They do not agree on foreign Policy Or Abortion Policy Or Music policy. You wont see these three Back Stage together at the Earnings Presentation for that Oil Company Halliburton that Cheney Ran or At Coachella which Billie Eilish headlined. They bring together their shared belief that Kamala Harris should be the next president not Donald Trump. And theyre taking those positions by the way, even at the risk of disagreeing with or upsetting their base. Quite literally. Dick and liz cheney, spent their whole lives in republican circles. We know that. They are taking that risk and disagreeing with those people, most of whom statistically tend to still vote partisan and saying, wait, not this cycle. Theyre saying, yes, we all voted republican for decades in a row, but this cycle you could should vote harris not trump. That is what the cheneys are saying. And on the other side, plenty of republicans buy music and go to concerts so it is more than unusual, it is striking to see this organic broad groundswell for Kamala Harris. And the trump allies, theyre upset. Trump said he hates to see this happen. Now he hates Taylor Swift. And before he was claiming that he had her endorsement and that is good thing. And now they say they dont want the endorsements and lets be clear. They do. And while they spent the Summer Gloating over their preferred matchup against biden and now theyre waking up to a living nightmare. A resurgence of Kamala Harris, a Taylor Swift hit that is featuring Dick Cheney and Billie Eilish was not on republicans Bingo Card for the Home Stretch of this campaign. It is good for harris. Doesnt mean she will win. As ive told you, well follow the evidence where it goes. But it is what momentum is made of it and it reflects something wider. As another artist put it this year, when it comes to connecting with the publics views, and in this Case Taylor and others supporting harris, it is not just me, im with the Culture Feeling and that broader american culture matters. You could ask voters and you could ask the political experts, you could ask our Lead Anchor Rachel maddow. Tim walz has a dance planned for single ladies. And the most consequential Celebrity Endorsement. As taylor would say, are you ready for it. Taylor swift is in her endorsement era. She has 283 Million instagram followers. The whole culture. It is Beyonce And Taylor swift, and kendrick lamar. And budweiser and the nfl. It is the most important Celebrity Endorsement weve seen. Taylor swift voted spiney and pretty with sprinkles on it but it still counts for one just like everybody else. Im a swifty, Donald Trump is going to have a hard time shaking off that debate. I think Donald Trump might be down crying at the gym now. Culturally, this one feels like it does. An endorsement from someone like Taylor Swift, who many of them idolize, could be the nudge they need to go out and vote. Shes also said you caged me and then called me crazy. Who is afraid of little old me. You should be. Taylor swift. You enjoying your rent free existence in Donald Trumps head. Billie eilish has endorsed Kamala Harris for president. Vote and elect Kamala Harris. Vote like your life depends on it, because it does. Something is happening here and what it is is actually pretty clear. And the breadth is clear. Jane fonda, you could see was out knocking on doors for harriswalz. Back in the day, she was someone with a cultural following of political activists. A young woman initially sometimes attacking and dismiss and they tried to silence her and failed. And Billie Eilish is 22 years old, using her platform, you see her there with her brother, encouraging her instagram followers to vote for harris. So this is Making Waves among a key plank of the Obama Coalition that harris is trying to rebuild. Young voters. Billie eilish and her bother endorsed Kamala Harris which was cool. This is all well, well, well, Billie Eilish came out today and encouraging people to register to vote. You could see some of the excitement. The Point Isnt that everyone has to agree. The whole point is that people who disagree about so much, Dick Cheney to Billie Eilish to Taylor Swift, are agreeing on harris over trump. And so i told you what we do here is sift through the evidence and the material as it changed, one Generations Radio and another is tv and another is tiktok. You take it altogether and you could see it is actually happening and it is not the type of support that is easy to script and you certainly Cant Purchase it. It is just happening. And that is the culture. Then you have whether we are going floor a certain direction or not. You could have cultural excitement for a candidate. But if the news, the reality, the economics are bad enough, it could still hold them back. And lets be clear, ive told them before, the Bidenharris Administration has struggled with the economic crisis and as the economy was improving there was a hangover from that. First off, i think the important thing in the long run is that the fed is cutting and the economy is strong and inflation is easing. So that is a powerful alixer for economic rallies. And we have a lot of polarized Reaction And Spin and that you saw the financial channels an the news channels, fox news, during the day at least, all acknowledging something that is the best possible news that the Bidenharris Administration could get after years trying to fight the rising prices and inflation. Auto loans, mortgage loans, a loan to start a small business. Credit card loans, all of those rates are key to the feds benchmark and that means all of those kinds of investments are more affordable to american households. Secondly, the reason the fed did what it did is because inflation has come down so much. Of course, it peaked in the middle of 2022. It is down to 2. 5 . That is close to their target. Put that together and lower inflation and lower rates and very importantly because there is no victory laps here, cutting costs on behalf of the households much like youve heard Vice President harris talk about. I think what you have what powell likes to say, the Direction Of Travel is moving in the right way. President biden has talked about the Inflation Reduction Act and the other measures. Im curious, since youre at the White House, do you say that those worked, those measures have won the battle against inflation . Theyve certainly helped us get us to where we are today. With not just inflation coming down. That is of course the Hot Topic today, or the Cooling Topic today, very important one. Right. But that is occurring while we maintain a very solid economy. We have great gdp growth. Strong consumer spending, real wage gains, for over a year and a Half Weve had wages beating prices. And it is not often the case that you get this much disinflation while maintaining such a strong economy. Yes, i would agree that president and Vice President fingerprints on that and certainly the independent has been part of that formula and so has been the production of Record Energy from all sources out there. And you kept talking about vibes and you highlights something that i want to see more of. Which is closing this gap between some of the really powerful strong economic indicators, the data that you and just talked about and some improvements and vibes that i think is very much related to Vice President harris and the work that shes doing right now. Were actually starting to see increased real Wage And Income that are helping people to to manage to sustain their household budgets, manage to get ahead of it. One kind of nerdy version of this is that it actually takes people the same amount of work to buy a bag of groceries as it did before the pandemic and that is because even while Grocery Prices have gone up, wages and income have gone up more. Now look, it takes some time for people to acclimate to these kind of trends, but again, i think those are along with the kind of cultural things you just highlighted, i think the economic trends are net positive for our lives. Which could seem to be an almost observable strategy and yet it is working. But to get into this, you have to start further back. Politics and Power Games are as old as human society. Literally. What youre seeing and what youre reading is not what is happening. If it is a cult, it is because they like what my father is doing. But there is something interesting here. He argues there is a bridge to the world as it could be that the laws could be applied for a range of goals. So it could be evil or good or neutral. That you have to master them and use them and then you might improve human kind. An example of using a Power Law to defeat a show is stir up waters to catch fish. You cant be too complicate and repeat it over and over again. Make america great again. Immigrants are destroying the country. You have to have these kind of spectacles that rally the masses. His famous rallies that he has. And then also you have to have an enemy. You have to have a very powerful Us Versus Them Dynamic in which you the members of cult are facing this enemy that is trying to destroy you. You are actually the victims in this. And you use apocalyptic rhetoric about im the only person that could save you from this evil enemy. Okay. So, hes used those. The thing about a cult though, ari, the people in a cult dont realize theyre in a cult. They understood that im in a cult, they would get out of it. So the people who are in Donald Trumps cult, theyll be the first ones to argue that is not the case at all. That were the ones in some kind of Kamala Harris type cult. But the thing that is happening is, when a cult starts to decline, because what it depends on this dplu that keeps everybody together and this Us Versus Them Dynamic. When that glue starts to come apart, as it is now and people are leaving the rallies a little bit early. Yes. Not believing so firmly in the rhetoric that hes supplying, it becomes kind of dangerous. It becomes the declining phase of a cult and what the Cult Leader has to do, is he has to continually up the ante. And it is like a drug fix. Im jumping in because i want to show harris. So we do both. Law 35, you say always seem patient as if you know everything will come your way. Land to stand back when the time is not yet right. And Vice President harris has at times underestimated and yet she managed the timing well. She waited for her moment. Do you think that she was knowingly or not using one of those laws in her unusual road to this nomination. But there is something else. It is understanding the zeitgeist, the cultural moment where we live in where were anticipating that and i believe were at a moment whether things are radically shifting in our culture. Where people are tired of all of the overheated rhetoric, the continual stoking of rage and outrage, all of the Negativity And Fearmongering and there is some incredible hunger for something not so petty and meanspirited. We all Want Food on the Table And Inflation to go down. But people are hungry for something larger. For a kind of purpose. What does it mean to be an american in the 21st century. What would a positive form of patriotism be . And so when harris appeared in delaware after she was after biden decided to drop out, she kind of intuitive that the culture shifting. Right. I like that. And she exemplified it in the moment. And for people like myself that are a magnet for that energy that we were hoping for and yearning for.
