The Trump Campaign released a Statement Today saying harris comments about the crying shame they quote, continue to stoke the flames of violence against President Trump just two days after an Assassination Attempt against him. Vice president harris did say she also spoke to former President Trump after the incident on sunday. I checked on him to see if it was okay and i told him what i have said publicly. There is no place for political violence in our country. I am in this election in this race for many reasons, including to fight for our democracy and in a democracy there is no place for political violence. We can and should have healthy debates and discussion and disagreements, but not resort to violence to resolve those issues. With that, lets get smarter with the help of our Leadoff Panel tonight. Obviously no one likes to see this. It is a terrible situation. It is a scary situation but i mean, look, what is amazing about this is this happened less than two days ago and we have already ratcheted up into a fundraising appeal, a back and forth. Its already alleviated the illusion of a pause in any normal political hostilities. It is kind of a folly at this point so i think it has just become this disturbing Background Music to what has become a very long and obviously exhausting campaign. Even by our banana standards, it has been a crazy 48 hours. What sticks out to you the most . The phrase that mark just used, normal political hostilities because that is not what we are in. There hasnt just been lost 48 hours, its really been the entire election and i dont know when it ends but there is clearly an escalation and i dont know if any of us really know in the Press Court unless we are clairvoyant, where this is going to go but it is not going to go to, i suspect, very happy or sane place and what is most interesting to me about this way this story has unfolded in the last few days is the extent to which the Trump Campaign is doubling down on these charges and i would you are always trying to figure out what campaigns are doing, what theyre thinking behind the scenes based on the public pronouncements, but there is a theory out there that every day the Trump Campaign talks about immigration and has that be the focus, that is the day they [ inaudible ] and i dont know if i am entirely convinced of that when you talk to sources around town but they want to keep the focus on there, and to mark and me, it might be puzzling but i think something is going on therefore they think this might be advantageous to them and i cant quite figure it out but maybe we should do more reporting on it. I want to listen to Vice President harris answer on the economy earlier today because you know no matter what day of the week it is, i want to talk about money. Four years ago when we came in, we came in during the worst unemployment since the great depression. We came in during the worst public Health Epidemic in centuries. We had done a lot of work to do to clean up a mess. As of today, we have created over 16 Million new jobs, over 800,000 new manufacturing jobs. We have the lowest black Unemployment Rate in generations. We have invested in small businesses. All those things are true, and tomorrow, the Federal Reserve is expected to cut rates. Hans, you are giving me the not so much true. [ inaudible ] unemployment was trending down when they came in. It haD Come off the Covid Peak and biden in particular always talks about Inflation Being that it came in at 9 . It is not true. Harris said there. She said that the past but go ahead. I didnt mean to interrupt, sorry. Its not a great argument that democrats make that when Joe Biden took Office Unemployment was at the super high level because the Reason Unemployment was so high is because the country was shut down because of covid. However, even before covid, Unemployment And Productivity under Donald Trump are essentially the same as they were under president obama, so we will just level set there but lets talk about the Presentation Vp Harris is putting forward. Is she now making this picture of what she is offering, what the future is going to be is capitalism for all, or capitalism for the little guy . Is that what her pitch is in do you think its going to land . Yes, opportunity is The Word she keeps using an opportunity for all. She is clearly committed to it. What is interesting about the way harris talks about the economy is that it is always in the future test tents. In her political ads she is talking about how they knew to do more to get costs down and make groceries more affordable. Its all on the Cost Side of the equation. On the better side of the at biden administration, they were always asking credit for how hot and great the economy was in it is true that unemployment is at historic lows and stayed at historic lows for 33, 34 months, but there was not meeting voters where they are and what you are seeing from harris is sort of nodding at voters with their struggling, that high prices have affected them in that she has a plan to remedy it, and that his small Business Tax credits, money for firsttime homebuyers, or Child Tax credits. She has laid out her economic plan at this point. It involves a lot of tax breaks. Perhaps she is doing that because she listened to the criticisms of how biden now makes was not landing with the american people. She has pivoted and moved forward and if were talking about looking to cut costs for the american people lets talk about Donald Trump because literally today Donald Trump came out in public and said your Car Insurance is up 73 and im going to cut that number in half. My question is who is hearing that insane ride on. Is he running to be ceo of geico . I want to know how statements like that align with the idea that he is good for everyday peoples economic woes. The short answer is they dont. In any real world looking at this, as you mentioned, if he were to run for ceo of geico he might have more direct real World Effect on this. The fact is we are talking about economic messaging here and i hate to use such a Crass Political prism through which we can look at this but obviously the message about whatever the economy was improving and biden if it was and i think it was. There are a lot of indicators, but it was not landing. Joe biden was not seen as, i think, and effective messenger for that, and harris, i think, as hans said, is trying to be future looking. I think what she is also doing his rather than getting into the minutia of the numbers, she is trying to draw a contrast between what things felt like in america in 2020. September of 2020 was a very bleak period in america. Unemployment was trending down or what have you at that point and what have you. She does want to try to reclaim a trajectory saying we are trying to propel this thing forward. We are at a much better place than we were at The End of the pandemic. We have fled the country out of the pandemic in the future is going to be brighter from here so that is one way she is trying to differentiate herself from the Biden Record she is part of. In that same vein, today Donald Trump said his brain back the state and local Tax Deduction and he is saying that the day before he gives a speech in Long Island for rich people in places like New York and new Jersey Care a lot about it but of course Donald Trump is the person who put assault a cap on the Tax Exemption when he was president. Donald trump has completely flipflopped on s. A. L. T. You just mentioned you can only have 10,000 Dollars Of State and local taxes deducted from your returns. It hit. Blue states particularly hard. The number of republicans on the Senate Side that talked about it, it was basically pitting different states against Each Other, punishing Blue States for their high taxes, they loved it. It was republican orthodoxy and on a dime this afternoon, Donald Trump just at the equivalent of saying just kidding, and this is not a minor tax issue. You tease this out over 10 years, it is 1. 2 trillion is what it will cost if you do what trump wants to do and so you know, big picture, taking a step back and all the fiscal policies of both candidates but especially trump, there is a Tax Cut in every pot he is offering. Its Christmas Morning here for him and its just everyday consistently he comes up with new Tax Cuts that he is promising with no realistic way to pay for it and take a look at the graphic in the Wall Street Journal. There is an excellent breakdown of how much everything is going to cost. At a certain point, Bond Markets are going to revolt and they are not going to like debt to Gdp Ratios this country has not seen in peacetime. Did you realize anything about our current moment when you look back at the reporting you did in 2016 . What is striking to me is that Donald Trump called this. Yes and i think there is a way for democrats to do that and they have to do that because immigration is on peoples minds. Senator when you do that and i think its really important for democrats to call that out and to make sure the american peoples know these folks were here legally. Springfield, ohio is only about an hour and a half from where i live and now we have people having Bomb Threats because of Jd Vance, because of Donald Trump. Schools in his district are closed down because of him but despite all the things that he said in the chaos he caused, here is what he said today when he was talking about attempts to assassinate the former president. Again, two Assassination Attempts in as many months, and i think that it is time to say to the democrats to the media, to everybody that has been attacking this man and trying to censor this man for going on 10 years, cut it out or youre going to get somebody killed. I hear you but that was at the Dnc And Everybody at the dnc is on board and i know who they are voting for and everybody at the dnc are not enough people to elect anyone into anything. But, he is actually just a decent, kind good man who also happens to be a hunter and a fisher and a veteran and you think, that they create him allah but you know, he really is what most of america is. No way, maam, nebraska. A good, kind, decent person and most people are. We want a better america and what we have to do is show people by example rather than force them to do it. Do you think it is connected . Freedom is the Number One principal in my book. America is a Land Of Freedom and it doesnt matter if you are far right maga or far left progressive. You have had a positive economic growth. The u. S. Economy has grown two or 3 so do you want more of that or do you want change . What you think a Trump Economy will look like . I think youre going to have issues because youll end up having higher tariffs, more instability in the world. Youre not going to have stability. What markets care about is stability. The more instability, what is happening in russia, ukraine, what is happening around the world on the fact that if you look at what happened before under Donald Trump in my opinion i think you had more instability. You have had very much for the markets a lot of stability and that has been positive. If she wins and Donald Trump does not accept the election results, what kind of instability do you predict . What could happen in the markets if we are in that period of what could be chaos . I dont know if you have chaos. I think at The End of the day, whether he accepts it or not does not make a difference. Its over. You have an election he will of last period. But you think it will be over and done with . I think it will have republicans complain about it because now you live in a world where if you dont win, its not because you lost, its because something is red. Reality.
