And well begin this morning with the latest developments surrounding the apparent Assassination Attempt against Donald Trump. According to the federal criminal complaint, the Suspect 58yearold Ryan ruoth, was in the area for about 12 hours before the Secret Service spotted him on sunday and opened fire. Authorities said routh did not fire a shot nor did he have a clear line of sight to shoot at trump. He had a Semiautomatic Rifle with a scope as well as two bags some food. When he fled the scene he left behind his phone. Authorities say his sell data shows he may have been hiding from 2 00 in the morning to 1 30 in the afternoon when he was found. The Martin Canty Sheriffs Office released this Video Yesterday of his arrest. He was taken into custody without incident. He was found driving on the highway nearly 50 miles away from the Golf Course after police say a witness took a picture of the car he was in. So that suspect in the apparent Assassination Attempt is now charged with two federal counts. They include possession of a Firearm And Possession of a firearm with a obliterated serial number. The charges carry a sentence of up to 20 years. Routh appeared in a Nra Court with a hearing that took a matter of minutes. He was seemingly called. When asked about his earnings he told the judge he had no money to his name but owns two trucks in hawaii that are worth about 1,000 each. He also revealed that he has a 25yearold son. Routh is being represented by a Public Defender and is due back in court for a Bond Hearing next monday. He could face additional charges as the investigation continues. So Donald Trump spoke publicly about sundays apparent Assassination Attempt and doing so for the first time Last Night. First, the suspect had been in the area for 12 hours, had some supplies, began hiding in the bushes starting around 2 00 in the morning. What does that speak to you, his level of dedication and that Secret Service was able to confront him before he was able to get a clear line of sight or take a shot at the former president . Yeah, really unusual, jonathan. Really two factors when you look at this. Why was that individual able to get up to that Fence Line and stay there for so long . But at the same time the head of the secret Service Yesterday noted it wasnt really a planned golf outing, meaning they maybe didnt have enough time to do all of the sweeps that they might normally do. Look at this, though, with the Threat Situation we have seen this time and time again where there is one shooting, oftentimes Theres Someone else considering doing a shooting that might undertake an attack, and here we go just a few weeks later another person with what seems to be entirely different motives picking a place to try and potentially kill the former president. So looking at all of this, it comes down to two things. Do you have Threat Intelligence on what these threats might be . Very difficult to do when the former president is on the Campaign Trail going to lots of different locations. Second, if, again, as we have seen so many times you start looking back through the history, this gentleman has a very checkered past with many criminal violations. Everything that you read and see posted about him and his conduct when he went to ukraine briefly and the plans he was trying to put together make almost no sense at all. And many have noted that he was not necessarily stable, or they didnt trust him. So all the things put together, this isnt surprising, unfortunately, we had this kind of attack. I think therell be some questions how do we get out in front of this when we dont know who the attacker might be, but we do know wholl be attacked and thats other the Vice President or the former president on the Campaign Trail. The charges against him are all about possession of firearms, nothing about targeting trump. I assume thats because he never actually was able to, but please explain that to us. And secondly, have we learned anything else about motive here . Youre right, his political ideology seems to be all over the place and not particularly coherent. Yeah, jonathan, on the charges ive not heard the shooter actually fired a shot. If youre looking at attempted assassination or attempted murder, usually theres on overt act. What they have right now is they went with two charges, which is the firearm charges, which they can pursue. That gives them a little more time to continue the investigation, find out his the intent, was that actually what he was trying to do . Then they could pursue potentially more charges as they go. This would be the first volley and i would not be surprised if there was a second volley. Just in terms of this individual Shooter Everything from supporting taiwan, talking about venezuela, can then a lot of focus on ukraine, traveling to ukraine, at one point, but also labeled by those in ukraine as a fraudster or a part of a goofy plan to try to bring former afghan soldiers through iran to ukraine. Theres numerous instances when you look at both Social Media and communication on websites where he posted about these things. They seem absolutely crazy. Theyre not solid plans. And this person was noted by someone that had come back as an extremely violent person concerning to everyone inside ukraine. Again, it points to this nature. Once one of these attacks kicks off like We Saw two months ago several other people around the world may be thinking about doing an attack of some sort and unclear ideological motivations but show up to try to take an attack and the point of attack is thing you know theyre going after former President Trump in this case, and an unfortunate Thing Weve seen over the last decade whether its isis, you know, other attacks domestically and now going after former President Trump. Yeah, on the domestic front hes made some small donations to democrats. At the same time, on Social Media made clear supporting republicans including at one point Donald Trump himself. Former president Donald Trump is blaming democrats after the second apparent Assassination Attempt against him. In an interview he gave to Fox News digital yesterday, trump pointed the finger at President Biden and Vice President harris claiming its their rhetoric that is causing him to be shot at. Using his own inflammatory language he claimed Biden And Harris are, quote, destroying the country from both the inside and out. Trump later warned on Social Media in an extended rant. Quote, because of this communist left rhetoric the bullets are flying and it will only get worse. Trumps Running Mate, j. D. Vance, echoed those remarks while he spoke in atlanta Last Night. You know, the big difference between conservatives and liberals is that we no one has tried to kill Kamala Harris in the last couple of months. And two people now have tried to kill Donald Trump in the last couple of months. Id say thats pretty strong evidence that the left needs to tone down the rhetoric and needs to cut this crap out. Somebodys going to get hurt by it, and its going to destroy this country. All of us and i promise i will do my part to tone down the rhetoric, but in particular telling you Donald Trump needs to be eliminated, you guys need to cut it out or youre going to get somebody hurt. Lets talk about some of this rhetoric were hearing from republicans. Lets be clear no one in our modern politics uses more incendiary language than Donald Trump. Do we think the plan here now to point blame squarely at democrats for the actions of these lone individuals whose motives we do not know, do we think that will be a politically successful argument . I think its politically successful for republicans and for Donald Trumps base, right . And as ive talked to republicans they genuinely believe that Kamala Harris and Joe Bidens rhetoric and Democrats Rhetoric is to blame for this. When i talk to democrats, they believe the exact opposite. So do i think a lot of minds will change from where their current positions are . No. But will it be something that could potentially rally Donald Trumps base again, certainly. I think it comes its impossible to know what sort of impact it will have, right . The last Assassination Attempt in july, which was obviously captured on camera. Very real, very vivid, and the former president was wounded. That did seem like it was going to be a Turning Point in the race. Yet a few days later when President Biden dropped out it was all but forgotten. Its such a fast moving campaign. Yeah, it certainly is. As you said last time around it almost felt like that Assassination Faechlt was one of the nails in the coffin for Joe Bidens campaign because it did garner so much support for Donald Trump. And of course this event is also garning so much support where we still have two months left in this election. How long is this going to be in the news cycle. Theres going to be obviously investigations into this as well, into how this individual was able to, for example, stay around the property for 12 hours. But we just dont know the impact of on the president ial campaign. We cant . We cant see into the future. Some of it will be whether or not the suspect enunciates a clear motive while he did this. I Cant Help but think theres a rich irony, if you will, Trump And Vance are making these claims at the same time theyre doubling down on these lies about whats happening in springfield, ohio. And We Saw we played a lot of sound from the weekend when j. D. Vance acknowledged they were exaggerating what was happening to prove a point. These lies are racist and harmful and as we mentioned earlier in the show schools are being closed because of Bomb Threats there in springfield. Are they going to back off this issue or go further in . As one of my colleagues in the media, mark kaputo, for the bulwark reported the other day some of trumps aides acknowledged this is sort of the rhetoric they have to sort of accept in order to keep immigration in the news and that sort of ultimate goal for Donald Trumps campaign is to talk about immigration because they see it as a winning issue. So this has been sort of the avenue where theyve, you know, told people this is just something we have to take the l on because it keeps immigration in the news. So are they going to back off on it . It doesnt seem so. Is Donald Trump going to go to springfield . We might. Weve not heard yet if hes going to. I know theres differing opinions among his allies whether hell do that or not. Lastly, give us an idea what the next couple of days will be like for trump. Hes going to be out on the Campaign Trail. J. D. Vance is going to be out on the Campaign Trail. Hes go to be in it New York this week in uniondale, which is an interesting location for him to do an event at. Despite this second attempted assassination, hes not changing his schedule. Futures are suggesting it could be a higher start to the Trading Session on Wall Street today, and this is after what was a mixed picture really from Wall Street on monday. However, we did see the dow hitting a fresh alltime high and a Record Close on monday. But lets not kid ourselves. We know the Market Event this week is that allimportant fed decision, so investors at this stage are waiting to hear from the fed tomorrow. So in the meantime the focus is actually on upcoming economic data. Were going to see Retail Sales as well as industrial production figures this morning, so lets see how traders will react to these figures. Yeah, so lets talk about it. The Federal Reserve meeting today, tomorrow. The announcement expected tomorrow, is there anything we should learn today, though . So unlikely that were getting any sort of detail today, john. But it is a very important decision. We have been discussing what the fed was going to do at the September Meeting for many months now. And within investors whether were going to get a 50 or 20 Basis Point Cut tomorrow is very deep at this stage. With odds for a 50 Basis Cut intensifying in the run up to this meeting. For the audience watching at this stage, it doesnt matter if were going to get a 50 or 25 Basis Point Cut tomorrow, any sort of relief will be important for households across america. But the communication from the fed in terms of how many Rate Cuts to expect between now and the end of the year is likely to be even more important to understand, indeed, how much relief households can expect over the next couple of months. Yeah, certainly there is at least one school of thought it will be the first of several cuts in the months ahead. A bipartisan group of former governors is launching a campaign to convince their successors to commit to certifying the results of the upcoming election by the December 11th deadline as, as prescribed by federal law. At this point 19 exgovernors and counting are planning to sign. More are expected to join them in the coming weeks. Joining us now are two former governors who have, indeed, signed onto that letter. Former republican governor of pennsylvania, tom corbett, and former democratic governor of michigan, tim blanch blanchard. Tell us why especially in the wake of what We Saw in 2020 culminating on January 6th, why this effort is so important. Well, its a bipartisan effort of former governors. One of the problems was in 2020 you actually had Donald Trump call two governors and ask them to not certify the election. The governor of georgia, the governor of arizona, both republicans. Fortunately, they did their duty and refused to abide by donalds wishes. And were taking all the precautions now before its late to make sure all of our governors understand that by December 11th they have to certify the election. Who won the Popular Vote in their state and who the electors are for the electoral college. And its all were just taking precautions. Because if they dont do it, we take it to court by mandating and enforcing it because its purely an administrative rule. They need to abide by our constitution and our law. And the best way to remind them is to do it today on constitution day. Governor corbett, lets talk about this effort a little more, and some of the idea would be youre providing some sort of cover, if you will, to remind governors your role as your colleague just said is ceremonial. Even if you get that pressure your job is to remind them, hey, your hands are tied, cant do anything. Thats exactly right. It was codified even better with the Election Count Reform act passed in 2022, on update to the old 1887 law, that this is a ceremonial event, a ministerial event, and that they are to certify the elections. Now, the only problem is they need the counties and their states to certify the elections to them. But when the governor gets it, hes supposed to pass it along. He really or she really has no discretion in that. So governor blanchard, obviously Donald Trump is laying the Ground Work for key republi are run by republican governors, nevada, georgia among them, virginia perhaps, new hampshire. What is your level of concern as we barrel into another Election Year . We have to be vigilant. I dont think that the Trump Operation will stop at anything. We saw that on January 6th really. Its tragic. I mean, even the first time when he won the electoral college, he claimed the election was rigged. Then he claimed, well, the first thing he said to Nancy Pelosi was, i won the Popular Vote, which he did not. Were taking all precaution, legal, political, to make sure every vote is counted, the people speak, and their votes are respected. I would say, in the Battleground States, were lucky. In most of them, theres a democratic governor and were not for woried about them certifying election. Even if we dont prevail, theyll certify the election and abide by our laws. Where are we right now as a people . Were a divided people. Weve had this conversation. Because the vast majority working in our system, the people in the neighbors, friends, acquaintances. There should be trust in the Election System. When you mention arizona and nevada, it is the second largest demographic of voters. She needs the latino vote to secure those states. And it is on par in pennsylvania, so the fact she recognizes that she has a young vote, in nevada and arizona, its pretty much locked in. Theyre growing. They believe in what she has to offer. Its authentic. She needs to lock up the older independent voter. Thats one of the reasons shes doing the Spanish Language, and its a smart strategy. Back in april, when we polled 18 to 29yearolds in key Battleground States, latino voters, their Number One issue is housing. Not whether or not they want to move out of their house but can i actually afford a meal or two meals a day . Literally coming out of the focus groups. It was not a surprise that two weeks ago, she started talking about affordable housing. It wasnt for the latinos who are older but meeting, in general, where they are. The Trump Campaign made a point of saying, this time around more than previous years, theyre Making A Push for the latino voter. Have they made inroads in the voting . Oftentimes in campaigns, you know when a program is failing because you zero out the budget for it, right . When there was a Changing Of The Guard at the rnc, one of the first programs the Trump Campaign zeroed out was the outreach in nevada and arizona. That tells me theyre not making inroads. What i do think, though, there was an appetite for a while for robert kennedy. People were interested in him because they were basically saying, trump might be a little too racist for us. Biden, i dont understand his policies. He is too old for a second term. But what rfk was offering, independents were offering was the nebulous opportunity to say, i still want to get involved. Now that rfk is no longer in there, were seeing them going back to the democratic side. We talked about incendiary rhetoric, and certainly Donald Trump for his entire political career, has unleashed, you know, offensive and, at times, racist things about immigrant groups, dehumanizing them. Were seeing it in springfield, ohio, right now, but hes done it for latino immigrants a long time. Does rhetoric still matter to people . First of all, when you talked about how he is squarely to blame for deciding a lot of these conversations, i want to thank you. This idea that there is a both sides to this issue, it is not. When he tweets, he puts everybody on notice and in danger. When he did the antiimmigrant rheoric in office, he incited someone to drive to El Paso and kill 23 people. Thats on his doorstep. The fact that now he is doing it for taylor swift, thats not a joke. We should take everything seriously. One of the things that came out of the New York times article talking about whats happening in the haitian community right now in ohio was the calling are coming in are overseas. Election. Its not just his base but there are foreign agents who come in and benefit from rfk and our divisiveness. As americans, as we head to the polls, i encourage us to exercise our vote.
