I welcome everyone to The Beat and we begin the program covering the developments in the terrible, Near Miss Type Incident at Donald Trumps Golf Course on sunday. The secret Service Opening Fire after seeing a gun that was pointed inside the course, inside the area where the former president was. More details on exactly that exchange of gunfire and what happened and i can tell you with the most recent information, federal authorities are treating this as a second Assassination Attempt. The first occurred at the Pennsylvania Rally with shots fired, agents killing the shooter, and a Rally Attendee being fatally shot. Here, authorities have apprehended the suspected gunman, alive. 58yearold Ryan Routh charged with two federal counts of gun possession. The authorities are stressing how the investigation for determining the motive, thats an ongoing investigation and they also praised the response of the Secret Service. What was critical was the quick reaction, the hypervigilance of the men and women of the united states Secret Service, who since July 13th have been rising to meet an unprecedented and hyper dynamic Threat Environment environment. We will have some hard conversations with congress and we will achieve that. No tolerance for failures but many people are questioning what we are dealing with here and why these incidents are occurring. I can tell you Officials say the Cell Phone data indicate the suspects staked out the wooded woods around the area for 12 hours prior. The Secret Service are also indicating that they dont think based on the information that they had that the gunmen had a direct line of sight to trump and theres no report that any shots were fired. A serious incident but in terms of proximity, not as close as the last close call. The individuals fired in his Direction Law Enforcement was able to locate and arrest him without further incident without having to shoot at or kill him as they did in the live Action Scenario at the last Assassination Attempt. You can see the apprehension there, cooperation with the sheriffs deputies and as you can see, the swift release of this Body Camera Footage. Now this is the second close call that involves a very top Secret Service protect the, and it quite clearly immediately renewed several concert he can security concerns. I will share them with you based on our Evidence And Reporting and going no further than what we think we know. First, the Secret Service faces questions about whether it sufficiently resource or outmatched in the current Threat Environment and lawmakers have been working on that front and this renews that as you have the second incident. Second, america has as a policy and legal matter, extremely lax laws and easy Gun Access as compared to many places. So it is an obvious straightforward question for policymakers and lawmakers to look at whether that should be tightened to combat how would be assassins can get lethal weapons. I say obvious because its a straightforward response to what is a deadly weapon threat, but it is politically controversial given the way that Gun Politics work in this country. So theres a Security Issue and the politics of it. Third, the question about evidence, as i mentioned, what are the motives or influences on that earlier now deceased shooter and this new suspect . Those kind of questions and investigations take time, speculation or assumptions about not only the tracks from the process. Because of the last attempt, the Secret Service also is currently operating without a permanently empowered leader. The agencies acting head, who came in after the last one left after the last Assassination Attempt, met with former President Trump in florida today. And trump thanked the agency handling the incident as did Vice President harris. President biden hit a similar theme today. Ive always condemned political violence. America has suffered too many times the tragedy of an assassins bullet. It solves nothing and just tears the country apart. We must do everything we can to prevent it and never give it any oxygen. That was the president s remarks and we have a report that President Biden and former President Trump did speak by phone today. What you have there are the traditional calls for peace for nonviolence, calm and for following the facts. The suspects apparent target also went beyond thanking the agents to also publicizing misleading and unproven statements about this incident and using a political lens to invoke this and his speculation about it within the political context of his political debates or campaign. I am not reading that part of Donald Trumps statement because its unproven and speculative. It doesnt meet News Fact checking standards the matter who it happens to come from, even as of Course Everyone from the president On Down was very thankful that no harm was done and we wish former President Trump well. Separately a powerful Trump Ally Elon musk posted a platform about the hypothetical Assassination Attempt towards other Officials and then he retracted the inflammatory post and even drew a specific rebuke from the white house. And the Secret Service is planning to conduct a review about this incident. They will look at how this individual might have had Information Or Reason his way towards what was not announced event, was he lucky just going to a Golf Course or did he have some way to figure out that trump was going to be there. Those are a lot of the questions in the early period of this. What else can you tell us on the ground . Reporter so i want to show the viewers exactly what the scene is like over here. This is the entrance to the Golf Club and i will have our photographer back up a little bit and give you a sense. These are the bushes that line the outskirts of the Golf Club and they are quite thick. We cant see into the Golf Course, they are probably at least 10 feet high, and these are the kinds of bushes that line the Golf Course for much of the Property Line and so this is the kind of area that this person would have been going through to have a line of sight on the Golf Course and he did not have line of sight on the former president of the united states. Weve also learned the Trump Campaign today, you mentioned the questions around secret Service Staffing and support and how that might need to change. The Trump Campaign has asked the Secret Service for more resources according to our reporting from earlier today and we also know from Officials and we learned this yesterday as we continue to get more information, 12 hours that the suspect was allegedly casing the area. His Cell Phone data showed him in the area for about 12 hours before the actual incident with the Secret Service. The Secret Service personnel always goals goes ahead of the president to survey and that is the agent that spotted the barrel of the gun and fired the shots. Weve also learned more about the suspect who made his first court appearance today. He has a lengthy criminal history going back more than two decades that he was apparently at one point smiling and laughing with his public defender in court today. Thank you. We turn now to a former secret Service Agent who once protected president obama. Welcome. Im honored to be here. Yes sir. This is another serious incident and a serious time, starting operationally based on the public information on what we know, what do you see having happen here. What worked and what requires more scrutiny and what may not have worked . With the general public needs to understand is that there has been this talk that you know, former President Trump did not receive adequate protection from the united states Secret Service and if you look at July 13th, a former president or a candidate that is at that phase of the president ial election would not receive some of the Special Operations Elements that he had on July 13th even. These are the same individuals who took the shots to neutralize matthew crookes, and so since then, what i think we have made additional adjustments that seem to have worked. And so, i dont think this is a complete failure at all. I dont think its a failure, it was a successful interception of an individual who wanted to do harm. The methods of the Secret Service worked, having that forward advanced element sweeping the Wood Line. The only criticism i would have is that the Secret Service let me slow you down because you sort of are jumping through a bunch but what worked, then, walk us through what they are doing. They are out further away from the target protect d, and they find something and they engage with it because it was visibly a threat in other words, they found a suspicious person without a weapon they mightve had a different protocol, walk us through that since this is all new. Yeah, the methodology of the Secret Service is that these elements remain a one, maybe two, three Terrain Features in front of the bubble. That methodology appeared to work. Their goal is to get out ahead, sweep the adjacent Wood Liens or properties that could have public facing axis, which is what happened here. The individual took the shots based on what she or he deemed to be a threat which ended up being a weapon. And i commend them for taking those shots and for taking that assertive action without anyone having to tell them to do that. So that actually worked, and i commend them for that. Yeah, and youre referencing something we see in federal policing and local policing. People talk about a bad shot, thats a shot that should have been taken but it might not have been a crime. A crime could be someone who happens to be in uniform but goes way outside the line of duty to do something terrible with their weapon and then a good shot, a shot that was necessary, justified, legal and in this case, for a protective purpose. You are talking about what worked. Is there anything that raises questions, anything where you look at that and say, this may not have worked, or do you look at the questions around, was this individual lucky and happen to be there when trump was there is its maralago and thats not a secret . Yeah, i think that you know, obviously i have concerns about how this individual was in the area up to 12 hours prior when the Director Today advised that this was an Off the record movement, this was not a scheduled movement so how would he have had that were thought to know, unless someone either leaked that information to him and that could have been anybody. I think everybody automatically goes to the fbi or Secret Service, this could have been a Golf Course employee, who had some forethought to know that the president was coming. But i doubt that information was out 12 hours prior because according to the director, the decision was made yesterday morning. So that is my biggest concern, how did he get that information and was he conducting countersurveillance that would basically give him a little bit of a precursor to knowing what the movements of the former president would be. So Thats Concern Number 1. Concern number 2, and i think this is something that needs to be a policy changes that in the d. C. Metropolitan area, when we would go to andrews when obama would be there, we would utilize outside resources, d. C. Metro swot, or our Emergency Response Team to sweep the adjacent you know Fence Lines or Wood Lines. I think that we should be changing that policy to require that on any Golf Course movement or any Golf Course outing that there needs to be 100 , always someone in the Wood Line sweeping the Fence Line to ensure that Individuals Cant be playing in wait. Now the times reports that the group here, World Liberty financial is somewhat unclear what it is supposed to accomplish providing a Borrowing And Lending service and has its own token and trumps Family Members have talked about it recently. A few words about something that you are probably aware of and we are all living through. The key thing to realize about information is that information isnt truth. Most information in the world is not truth because the truth is a costly and rare kind of information. This kind of eerie naove thinking that if we just love the world with more and more information, the truth will float up, it wont. Itll sink to the bottom. If you want to write a true story, you need to do it out of research. It takes time, energy, money, whereas fiction, and delusions and Conspiracy Theories we just write whatever you want. The truth also has another problem, which is that it tends to be complicated. Because in reality, reality is complicated. Have you ever seen trump when the lights went out at his rally . If this election is about climate change, harris wins. So deciding what is the Issue Everybody is talking about is the most important thing. And if everybody is now talking about immigration because of this ridiculous story, the immigrants are coming to eat our cats, in a way, it still serves the purpose. Very smart.
