Can tell you the security has not let up. Earlier today, we heard Law Enforcementda crediting the qui actions of Aed Witness Who Spotd the suspect right away, before 2 00 this afternoon when the incident played out. Officials are saying that this Witness Saw the man jump out from thema brush, the shrubbery that surrounding this Golf Course and was quick to actually write down the License Plate Number of the suspects getaway vehicle. It was a black nissan, and this witness not yet identified, apparently shared the information with local Law Enforcement Rightwi away. Andri thats where local Law Enforcement on the ground was able to track down the suspect along thedo interstate. But thee interstate, as you ca imagine was pretty chaotic. Even getting to this location today, they were blocking off different ramps and roadways surrounding the Golf Course as the investigation pressed ahead but they wereat able to get the suspect. We heard earlier that this individual was pretty compliant and surrendered to Law Enforcement pretty quickly. Chris, just to go back a little bit andck walk through exactly w we got here. It all unfolded around the 2 00 hour, right before 2 00 p. M. This riafternoon, the former president was on the Golf Course, were hearing from Sources Anywheree between the h and 6th hole. And typically, when the former president plays golf here, or at any golf h course, he has secure detail that has this kind of protective bubble around him. They were out in front, and they noticed something suspicious. And noticed that the individual, the atgunman, was aiming toward the former president. Thats when these agents decided to react quickly. They fired, six rounds, but we werero told that the agents actually fired at the suspect. Were told no injuries were reported. But after local agencies moved in fairly quickly securing the area, even though the area is pretty tight, were told there is no danger. But obviously, this is just beginning the investigation, chris, and authorities are encouraging members of the member, if you have any information, witnessed anything, youre asked to contact them right coaway. That. You for with me now is nbcs Ken Dilanian and tommy winter. Tom, i know you have information from Palm Beachu county. Youve been on the phone, whats the latest . Sure, according to dave arenberg, this case is going federal. The State Isnt going to bring the prosecution. The reason why the state would do that, this happened where we see highprofile cases that allows themas to keep the suspe in custody until charges can be filed. Thats not c going to apply her. Arenberg said its going to go specific right away. Its important to know, the Interview Hekn did with the colleagues in the last hour, you dont need to fire a round to be charged with attempted assassination. Its interesting to see whether federal prosecutors believe they have the evidence to bring that forward. He says this individual ryan Wesley Routh identified by three credible senior Law Enforcement officials as the apparent suspect here, apparently, he was lying in wait for trump. He wasin waiting for the former president to get to that place in the Golf Course. And t as kathy laid out, it was the Secret Service there that found him. As far as the other parts of the investigation, the technology, back in the day, five, ten years ago, how long it would take Law Enforcement to find out where he was from, and the fact that he was from North Carolina could have made that more of a challenge except that this Witness Hadng the presence of md not only to get the photograph of the car but to get the License Plate. They put that in a database. A lot of Law Enforcement ass that have. If the license is abc1234, they type that in and they say, in this instance, hes on i95. They look at the various spots where the License Plate readers are capturing him. And oh, hes going northbound. So 45 Minutes North of where the shooting occurred or where he was o engaged by Secret Service. They find him, they take him in custody, then get the witnesses up to the scene and say, hey, is that the guy you saw who secret Service Agents fired at with the gun, and he says yes, thats where the investigation stands. The car, a Social Media presence, adi possible Twitter Account Fora him was just taket down. His Facebook Account was taken downk earlier today. Theyll comb through those things that is saved by those various Social Media companies. Theyre trying to figure out wai this person talking to anybody. The Big Question ultimately, how did he purchase the gun . If he has prior felony Arrests Hefe would likely have been prohibited from buying this weapon, did somebody give it to him . Did he purchase it illegally . Did somebody give it to imillegally . Those are the questions in the days and hours coming. Impossible to know, ken, but you could certainly say we dont know whether he would be in custody if it were not for that good samaritan, fast thinking, passerby, who thought i better Write This Down and immediately contact police. Di what more do we know about ryan Wesley Routh. I read that hes the only person in the country with his Name And Date of birth. What do we know about him. Thats what it looks like from public records, chris. It doesnt tell us anything about motive. We know a few things. We know he lived a long time in North Carolina and i there appeared to be notes of conviction there. One for possession for weapons, and other charges related to possessing stolento property. We have a Linkedin Account that said he moved to hawaii at one point. A long list of tweets, x, now, all over the map. At one point inviting the North Korean dictator kim jongun to go to hawaii with him. We also know he was passionate about ukraine. He travelled to ukraine. Theres a Youtube Video describing his efforts to fight for the ukrainian Cause But Becausen he was 56 years old a the time with no military experience, they didnt accept him as a fighter. Then he tried to recruit people for that cause. At one point, he had a scheme to recruit former afghanpro fighters to go over and fight for ukraine. So, those are the kinds of things were learning about him. Again, it doesnt tell us why hu might have done this and what his motive may have been. And Tom H is absolutely correct with these convictions it raises questions how he was able to possess those weapons. The Secret Service saw that Rifle Poking out of the brush on the Golf Course as they were going to clear the next hole for trump to play. That was a lucky thing. But it still raises question how someone yet again got within Rifle Range of the president , chris. T i guess to be fair, we say was it lucky or a secret Service Agent who was very alert and doing his job extraordinarily right . Thats exactly right. Thats the whole point of going ahead of mr. Trump on the Golf Course and looking for threats and clearing that hole with that Security Bubble. You heard the Palm Beach officials at the News Conference a couple hours ago point out that Donald Trump does not have the same level of security that the current president would have. Ful he waswo president , its possible the entire Golf Course would have been cleared in advance when he played. Thats going to raise some questions. Hes had one attempt on his life. The intelligence suggests that the iranians are trying to kill him and if that doesnt raise to the maximum security of Secret Service at this point, who does. So it raises questions what kind of resources theyre bringing to bear to protect Donald Trump. And some of those questions have already been raised by various members whose job it is, frankly, to oversee this and some others who are supporters of Donald Trump but, tom, im wondering two Assassination Attempts in just a little over two months. And im wondering if one of the things theyll be looking for maybe theyll find if theyre scrubbing his computer, is how closely he followed the first Assassination Attempt. Uhhuh. You have to raise the question of a copycat. You absolutely do, and to Piggyback Off of What Ken was just mentioned, its a short amount of m time but a long wayo go to this president ial election. I can tell you tonight, based on reporting there are serious questions being asked with the Law Enforcement in Thiswi Count is how does the rest of this president ial candidacy go. They love crisscrossing the map. The former president being shot in butler, pennsylvania. Who is tracking what, how its happening and were told that the stream, this is blatantly obviousat towards President Tru with the amount of threats coming in is very high. The amount of threats against Vice President Kamala Harris, his opponent, very high, along with her running mate. So, i think the secret Service Tonight Isin pausing and say, h do we possibly protect all of these people, and oh, by the way, chris, less than a mile from where, you and i are sitting, a week from today, people are going to be coming into town, 100 foreign dignitaries, foreign leaders, the u. N. General assembly. And now the Secret Service, part of a national security event, is going to be there having to protect on this. Working in their favor is the fact they have the new York City Police Department that can throw Hundreds Oft Cops over 1,000 cs helping out as far as protecting everybody whos here. But itso a huge question. E and its not as if were in Quoteunquote Peace times, middle east, israel and hamas, israel and hezbollah. Irans point to kens point, they did Arrest Somebody who was hoping to put together an Assassination Plot tied to iran, or sympathetic to iran. So, youve got that as a potential issue. You obviously have what russia has been doing with ukraine, perhaps in this individuals background. So putting it all together there are serious threats that exist on top of just the challenge normally of running the unga. Or the amount of events that we typically have in a full Campaign Season when you have two candidates. So, its a lot, chris. Tom winter, Ken Dilanian, guys, Thank You very much. Lets bring in Carol Leonnig, Msnbc Contributor and Washington Postto Investigati reporter who won a Pulitzer Prize for reporting on the Secret Service. I think one of four pulitzers that carol has won. Lets talk Secret Service. Let me pick up, carol, where tom just left l,off. Tell us about staffing with the Secret Service. Because it was raised after the first Assassination Attempt and already those questions are being asked now. Aschris, you know there is a lotkn of struggle in the Secret Service at all times, because for the last 12 years, there have been caps on how much how many people they can hire. And what i have heard, ever since the last Assassination Attempt, i cant believe im saying the last Assassination Attempt in july, is that the number of people who are specially trained tacticians is exceedingly low. In other words, the stable of people who do countersurveillance, countersniper, or Cover Evacuation or whats called the counterassault team, those specialists who are really important in protecting the president , in addition to his working t,shift, the Security Detail thats immediately around him, that group is really on hardgr times. There are far fewer of them than have been in the past. Thats a real challenge. And tom is exactly right that this agency is responsible right now for protecting more than 40 people, in addition to the ot president. And now the candidates, the Vice President ial candidate on the republican side, the former president , the republican nominee, add that to the number, and on top of that, after the Assassination Attempt, chris, you had the secret Service Director telling lawmakers, Ron Rowe, telling people, we are beefing up to the hilt the protection for trump, for Kamala Harris, for Joe Biden, for the twoVice President ial candidates. All of these people are getting not president ial level treatment, but close, getting very, very close to president ial level treatment. T theyre getting support from the military and still this happened. Which is going s to be the burng question. A smart and alert secret Service Agent saw a weapon and a man on the perimeter. But why would a man with a long gun be that close to Donald Trump . And they know that the bushes are there. The Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw told reporters just how close that gunman actually was to the former president of the united states. Let me play that sound. And at this level that he is atev right now, hes not the sitting president , if he was, we would have had the entire Golf Course surrounded. But because hes not, security is limited to the areas that the Secret Services deems possible. So, i would imagine, the next time he comes on the Golf Course there will probably be a little morey people around the perimeter. But the Secret Service did exactly what they should have done. So, even if, and congress would have to get involved, i presume, even if, lets say, well need to hire more secret Service Agents. We need to have more people around Donald Trump, Kamala Harris, the president , all of the other 40 people that youve talked about. Its not like they can snap their fingers, right . Maybe they can call on some retired agents. But is it even realistic to think that they can significantly ramp up protection between now and Election Day . You know, i want to stress two things in answer to, again, a very good question, chris. Number one, the candidate is probably going to have to do something different. In order to protect himself. And i dont mean that the secret Service Cant protect him. But its true, they cant snap their fingers and create a fortress around him and allow him to also golf on a course that is accessible by roadways and residential streets. You know, there is going to have to be some sort of consideration of another kind of Security Bubble around him. And some changes in his routine. A Golf Course that is Semi Public and next to residential streets probably is not ideal. Right after the shooting in butler, the then director of the Secret Service told the Trump Campaign no more outdoor events for a little while until we figure out how to secure you in those places. I think youre going to see the director now, Acting Director ron tirowe, come out and say either to the campaign or publicly say, were going to have to do something differently. Because even if every single department of Homeland Security Agent gets pulled up from the border or from homeland investigations. Or from tsa, if all of these agents get put on to security for the candidates, i still dont think that is going to really be either practical or enough. And i dont need to tell you how integral being around people being around voters is, especially toward the end of aci campaign, going into battleground states. Yes, holding big rallies, outdoor rallies, but going into small places. Going into coffee shops, going into diners. They call them otrs off the record. But in open public places. I guess my question is about to what extent can you really limit that . And who has the final say, take us inside the power structure, carol. Its the Acting Director of the Secret Service, says to Kamala Harris or Donald Trump, you cant do an outdoor rally anymore, or Donald Trump, who, by the naway, golfs almost ever chance he can, certainly, when hes near one of his courses. He often has meetings there. He often was with as he was today, with close friends and people who have donated to his campaign. Can he say, yes, i am . Or do they have the final word . How doesna that work . Wo so, there is no hard and fast absolute rule, other than a candidate could say, you know what, im going to do what i want to do. Im going to take the risks i want to take and so sorry. They could do that. Ld but The General, practical reality is, the Secret Service ties to Cajole And Pressure and basically guilttrip President S and their staff and candidates and their staff, to do what is safe. I mean, ive had agents tell me about the time they insisted that Bulletproof Glass be put up when then Candidate Obama was president elect. When he was in grant park, there were a lot of questions, how are wequ going to protect this Guy O has literally a bullseye on him, because hes the first black about to be the first black president. And they insisted, we are putting up Bulletproof Glass. End of story. But you asked the right question, can the candidate or can the President Say, take a hike . And the answer is, yes, he can. He can continue to golf. He can continue to hold outdoor events, but i think hes going to be counseled that this is not safe. Youll remember that former President S, then President S, often golfed in secure military bases. Where Ail Guy with a gun would t have been able to push through a bushy fence. That just would not have happened. You may remember, you brought it up actually, chris, otrs. Off the record is the way to go when a president , or a candidate, is trying to interact with the public. Its often a great way, in the Secret Services view, because its a surprise. No assassin can be laying in wait as Matthew Crooks was or as the suspect ryan routh was. Nobody can be laying in Wait And Planning if its an off the record. Finally, you said it earlier, too, and i just dont want to forget this point, chris, its so important for Thepo Candidat to be with the people weeks and days before the election. Well, everyone now knows that is what got john f. Kennedy killed. He insisted with the Secret Service over and over again, i want an open car so voters can see me going by. I want to pull over in that limousine and shake the hands of individuals. As he said to one secret servicn leader, i wouldnt be elected Dog Catcher if i listened to you people. He sort of was saying it sarcastically to secret Service Agents at the time. Well, he was thought the next day in an open top car insisting that he the people had to be close to him or he would not get elected. It was a risk he talked about and cost him his life. We are back with the breaking news. It has been just 64 days since the Assassination Attempt on Donald Trump at a rally in butler, pennsylvania. The investigation into that is still ongoing. And now, according to the fbi, yet another apparent attempt. And another investigation is under way, even as we speak. Take a listen to what fbi special agent Jeffrey Sveltetry said earlier this evening. We deployed a number of resources including investigative teams, Crisis Response Team members, Bomb Technicians and evidence Response Team members as well. What we need right now is for the public to avoid the area around the Golf Course. We will continue to support this investigation with the full resources of the fbi. Alongside our partners with the united states Secret Service and the Palm Beach sheriffs office, as well as martin County Sheriffs Office And State and local Law Enforcement. Vaughn, what are you hearing from trumps team, and people close to him hours after what the fbi is calling a second apparent Assassination Attempt. Right now, were actually hearing very little in terms of Donald Trumps own Social Media account where usually we hear the most from, we have heard zero since the apparent attempted assassination took place this afternoon. We know Speaker Johnson was at maralago after the attempted shooting. He posted on his X Account that he and his wife were down alongside of him. And they were met with him for multiple hours. We have seen tweets from both of his sons, one of his sons, Eric Junior suggesting that something has to change. This is a family that now has gone through two attempted assassinations, apparently, of their father. And this is a moment here for the campaign where they find themselves 51 days away from Election Day. And understanding, as you were just noting, this is when you really see the Schedule Ramp up. He has planned stops this week in michigan and North Carolina. Its not clear whether those events will proceed as originally planned. But we saw a change in the types of events they put on in the immediate aftermath of the butler attempted shooting or i should say shooting. And ultimately, the large outdoor rallies were are fewer, since then, and we have seen events that have been pushed inside. Of course, Donald Trump, that is not the type of event he likes to have. He likes to be able to have as many thousands that can possibly come to sit at an event, be in attendance here. But we also does this what we call offtherecord accounts, where he drops into a Waffle House or a local diner, and that this would change the process of the Campaign Direction as they look with a chance to proceed. Were talking about early Voting Beginning in a great many states this week, battleground, wisconsin, voters will start receiving their ballots on thursday. So this is a crucial time to be out on the Campaign Trail for Donald Trump and yet, this apparent attempted assassination here leads a lot of questions about the Security Apparatus going forward. Aaron, we know President Biden has released a statement on the incident and said hes relieved that the former president is unharmed. He highlighted the active investigation. What else are you hearing from the white House Tonight . Well, we knew that President Bideth and Vice President harris had been briefed about this incident, really in the minutes after it happened early this afternoon. And the president expressed his relief again that the former president was not hurt in this incident. And the statement that the president put out, really right before your program came on the air. He went on to say he was commending the work of the Secret Service and their Law Enforcement partners for their vigilance and their efforts to keep the former president and people around him safe. He went on to say, something we heard from Vice President harris in a post she put on twitter and from others as well, that theres no place for political violence, or for any violence ever in our country, he said. And he went on to say, hes directing his team to continue and ensure that the Secret Service has ever resource and protective measure necessary to ensure the former President S continued safety. We know that the President S national security team, the director of the Secret Service, quite likely, along with the secretary of Homeland Security, the national security add visor, Homeland Security adviser would have been brief the president what happened in florida. Hell get another Briefing Tomorrow in florida, as part of his daily brief. At this point, were learning that the Acting Director of the Secret Service Ron Rowe was going to florida, not necessarily to oversee whats happening but the fbi is leading the investigation at this point. Youll remember after july, there were all these questions at the time, where was the director at that time, Kim Cheatle and how could this have happened. And were hearing, really, just a couple hours since this incident happened, we knew that the director of the Secret Service was on his way to be in the area. As we know west Palm Beach is where this secret Service Director started his Law Enforcement career, so hes familiar with the area. Hell be able to talk to the agents on the ground there both about what happened there and about The General security for former President Trump, chris. So, im wondering, vaughn, we have heard a lot of concern raised by allies of the former president. But we all know, from what happened in butler, pennsylvania, that if he had not turned his head, who knows if it would have been a much different situation. As it was, he injured his ear. The Bullet Whizzed by him. But it could have been, by all accounts, much, much worse. Has he ever expressed any concern about his protective detail . Or expressed any, i guess, fear, that hes not getting the kind of secret Service Protection that he needs . No. Off the top of my head directly from Donald Trump, i dont believe that weve heard that explicitly. And to think that there were definitely going to be questions after butler about what Donald Trump would say. I have not had a near Life Or Death experience, and i would not be one to judge how one would react after an immediate moment like that. But Donald Trump publicly thanked the Secret Service and applaud them for their work in the aftermath of the Pennsylvania Assassination there. And of course, the secret Service Director at the time made her way to milwaukee to the republican national convention, and met with him. To my understanding, it was a difficult conversation. There were multiple republican senators who were actually onsite in milwaukee that all but chased the secret Service Director down at the time, expressing Theiran Agency that under scrutiny. But for Donald Trump, hes rated that he wants to do these outdoor events there are questions whether those should be allowed to see. Clearly what you just saw there the outdoor events, theyve had plexiglass put around him. And we have not seen his Eagerness Or Willingness to not be on the Campaign Trail because of possible secret threats diminished. He continues to put himself out in situations like this and of course, continues to go and make a decision to go on the Golf Course here. I think this is a moment, undoubtedly for the campaign staff, i cover and travel with this campaign, these are people with him day in and day out, secret Service Agents that recognize him from stop to stop. The secrets is did their job today, and protected the current nominee, potentially future president today. This is one where it comes at certain moments in time, where, of course, we have seen some on the right who have questioned out loud, whether there is some conspiracy to allow these attempted assassinations to come within striking distance of Donald Trump. There is no evidence that would back up such conspiracies or claims. And yet, i think at the heart of those conspiracies, theres potentially, you could say, understandable concern about the vitriolic state of affairs. And the individuals who clearly have the intent to harm Donald Trump or seek that violence as a means to an end for what is a moment in america that is incredibly difficult and one that has clearly led to moments that put the former President S life on the line. And tonight, even more unsettled, vaughn hillyard, aaron gilchrist, Thank You. As vaughn pointed out a man with a rifle with a scope on it, came within 300 to 500 yards of a former president on a Golf Course today. After the break, what we know about the fbi investigation. Right now, a florida Golf Course is at the center of a multiagency investigation into what the fbi says an apparent Assassination Attempt on former president Donald Trump. I want to bring in msnbc Law Enforcement analyst and former secret Service Agent evy poumpouras. We know Donald Trump spends a lot of time on Golf Courses, frankly, barack obama. And you were on his detail. The Secret Service has long been concerned with Law Enforcement in general, some of these in particular, so close as Carol Leonnig was talking earlier to busy roads. How tough is it to protect in a situation like that . You know, its interesting, this was the second Assassination Attempt and they both were done outdoors. And outside the perimeter, technically in both cases . Yeah, youre thinking the secret cases the innerbubble. Thats correct, because when we think about innerbubble, we think about agents around the immediate presence of the president , Taking Care of him, securing him. But in both circumstances, the threats coming from outside and from a distance. Now, were looking at an element that needs to shift. Typically, when we look at outerperimeters, you typically always relied on local police, national police, so they could be close. I think Theyll Change that a lot. Youre probably going to see actors now, i do think people are emboldened. Their thinking, huh, if somebody can get that close at a rally, i wonder what i can do. I think well see quite a few copycats stepping up. I think what youre hearing is increased number of threats not just towards Donald Trump but other protectees. Kamala harris, the Vice President , the president himself. These are things you want to look out for. Well, weve been talking about the fact theyre stretched, the Secret Service is stretched. And i wonder what are the kinds of conversations that are happening right now . How do we take what we have, how do we move people around, right . If theres going to be conversations about more security, for Donald Trump, at this point, two Assassination Attempts, or apparent, in this case, Assassination Attempts. What are the conversations going on behind the scenes right now . By the way, the acting secret Service Agent is on his way to Palm Beach right now . I think thats great. I think thats smart at this point. I think he thinks im likely to go before congress, and im going to to go on the ground and find out exactly whats going on, thats a great move. And also talking to agents to understand whats happened. Because hes going to be questioned and he wants all of those components together when asked questions, as he should. Something is shifting in the world, right . The way Secret Service has been doing protection, not that it is wrong, it is just changing. And the way that theyre doing the protection is going to have to shift. So, Eye Cant Hire 1500 agents, 2,000 agents to change things. Were not looking at the longterm change right now. Right now, we just need to get to the election. We need to make sure everybody is safe. What are some of the conversations you can have . Talk to your protectees. We need to minimize your outdoor events. We need to minimize going outdoors in general. It is so hard toe protect somebody when you have all of the space you need to look at. When you have an indoor event, i have walls, its secure. I post. I decide where my Entry Points are, i funnel people through that entry point, i post my entry point, i put my magnetometers, done. Great day. How do you secure events . Also this scenario, our individual, our shooter, was able to get away. It was only because a Witness Saw him, had the presence of mind to write down those License Plates, to take video and then to inform it to Law Enforcement. And he was found later on the highway. Because the License Plate readers picked up his License Plate. So, these are the things we need to look at. The game is changing. Talk to your protectees. Tell them we need to mitigate movements. What we should be doing. The other thing is, really thinking about the assets and how youre reallocating the assets. Pulling in extra assets. Maybe local Law Enforcement isnt enough. Maybe having some type of Military Presence or personnel on the outerperimeters to help mitigate. Just by seeing the presence its calls deterrence, just by seeing the presence of armed officials, whether local police or military officials, it deters somebody from doing something. When i would do protection assignments, they would ask me how many uniforms do you want. And i would give a number. Because uniforms means a bad actor is going to see the uniform and say, ooh, i clearly recognize thats a police officer. Im not going to go that direction. So, even having the presence around that will deter bad actors. If somebody thinks theyre going to get caught. Its rational choice theory, ill way the risks, rewards, if i think im going to get caught, im not going to do it. Well, right now, Donald Trump is home, cedric, he is safe and sound. We mentioned at the top of the show, now, there are no less than a Dozen Police cars with a very visible presence outside of maralago, afteret fact. What are the key questions you have, as this investigation is ongoing . Well, i think there are questions and still get to the answer, what is the motive behind the shooting. How long had this shooting been planned . Were there other individuals involved, other than this particular gunman himself. Fortunately, No One was injured. But clearly, as you just heard evy state, these threats are going to become possibly more of a threat to us, as a nation, as we attempt to protect these candidates. You think so, too, cedric . Im sorry . You think so, too . Im sorry . You think so, too, there will be more copycats . You worry about that . Certainly, afterwards, again, this is a second attempt on a former President S life in the last eight weeks and who may be the next target, we dont know. So its certainly going to retire further planning by the Secret Service as these candidates move around from one location to another. They are not going to be inside all the time. I think we have to come to terms with that. They have their own personalities. They have to move around outside. They want to go to rallies, they want to be outside and meet people. And they may also decide they want to go out and do something leisurely, such as what the former president was doing today. Its going to require more assets. Its going to require more local Law Enforcement, as being part of that train. And even as much as the Secret Service may be strained, as recorded, with agents, local Law Enforcement is also strained with providing service. So, one thing that comes to mind for me, that i think is going to be very important is the continued use of technology, expanding technology, such as License Plate readers and Drone Technology and other technology that will help to cover spaces where you have may have a shortage of personnel. But we have to protect all of these protectees, and the primary persons, or agency responsible is the Secret Service. But that is also but its also incumbent, that they have the support of local Law Enforcement, of which they do. So, this is going to be a challenge. Its not going to be an impossible task. But it certainly is going to put strain on agencies. And i think the utilization of technology and whatever Technology Information that can be gathered will be helpful in order to supplant some of these shortages that were seeing in federal and local Law Enforcement. As we learn more about what the fbi is describing as another apparent Assassination Attempt on Donald Trumps life, the congressional Task Force investigating the first one is demanding answers tonight. The Chairman Congressman Mike Kelly and ranking Neb Jason Crow said in a statement, we have requested a briefing with the u. S. Secret service about what happened and how security responded. We are thankful that the former president was not harmed, but remain deeply concerned about political violence and condemn it in all its forms. The Task Force will share updates as we learn more. Joining me former congressmaned members of the committee for the apparent assassination of President Trump. Law members were asked the questions that i now ask you under different circumstances. And its this, are you confident that the Secret Service has the resources it needed to protect trump and Kamala Harris and Joe Biden . Well, chris, thanks for having me. I never thought that, first, i would be appointed to an assassination Task Force, attempted assassination on a president. In my first years in congress, little did i think it would be groundhog day. And while on that assassination Task Force there would be a second Assassination Attempt, just two months from the first one, not only a month into the formation of this Task Force. So, now, im deeply concerned, chris, that right now, we dont have a good handle on the situation. The idea that there has been two attempts, and they have been able to get close enough to the former president is deeply disturbing. Im concerned that Donald Trump is actually not safe. At this point. And, quite frankly, i dont know if theres any evidence to show me that he is safe, the fact that theres been these two attempts. So the Secret Service has a lot to ask for in this instance. The Officer Saw the threat neutralized it. The question is what allowed to get so close to the former president , especially since an assassination two months ago. I was about 15 minutes from the Golf Course today, on a private matter, but i was in the city. I know the sheriff there. I know the State Attorney there. These are the highest quality individuals. So, i think theyre going to do an investigation, get to the bottom of it. I saw that Governor Desantis said he was probably going to have fble do their own investigation which i think, quite frankly, is warranted. You know, i have a lot of questions, how did someone who clearly has mental Health Illness and looks like he has potentially a Rap Sheet from before this event, how did he buy that gun . Where did he buy that gun . In florida, we have Red Flag laws that were passed after the shooting at my my School Marjory Stoneman douglas a mile away from my house right now. Im curious if he bought it here or somewhere else. So there are a lot of questions, chris. We still dont know the motive from the first shooter. That still hasnt been released to the public. I think the public has every right to demand right now, that the fbi, Secret Service, come out and start sharing this information with the american public. There is a new Acting Head of the Secret Service, as you well know, The One who was in charge when the first assassination occurred resigned. Are you confident, based on what youve learned Behind Closed Doors with your committee, the other questions youve asked, maybe answers that youve gotten, that the situation within the Secret Service is stronger, safer for these candidates now less than what, theyre about two months out, and was pointed out earlier on the show. Already some mailin ballots are going out, early voting is going to begin. I mean, is this going to impact how we run free and fair elections and allow voters to see their candidates . Well, this cannot become normal. I mean, thats, quite frankly, weve seen mass shootings become normal in this country. But Assassination Attempts on our leaders cannot become normal in this country. It is scary that mentally ill people have easy access to weapons. But they shouldnt also have easy access to our President S and former President S. Look, i think the new leader of the Secret Service is definitely headed in a much better direction than the director that resigned. I think that was clear from her testimony, the fact that she didnt even visit the site of the first Assassination Attempt. And so, look, i think what needs to happen now is, look, the Secret Service, the fbi, Law Enforcement agencies, Homeland Security, everyone is moving fast with their investigation in the first Assassination Attempt. I mean, listen how ridiculous that sounds, first Assassination Attempt, now the second Assassination Attempt. To share that information with the american people, i appreciate the Task Force is getting it that im on, but when you have people on the left who think the Assassination Attempt of former President Trump was staged and then The Deep right. So misinformation will fill that space. So i plead with the fbi and Homeland Security and Law Enforcement agencies, to start having press conferences, and sharing information on these investigations, in realtime, with the american people.
