We will let you know what we are seeing right now. This is clearly a secured roadway very near to the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, florida. Why is it like this . Because just over two hours ago we were told that former E President Donald trump, while playing somewhere between the fifth or sixth hole on the Golf Course on Trump International that there were shots fired, initially the plan to just get the former president to safety. O we can confirm he is safe. The White House has been alerted about this. They are aware and expressed their gratitude he is safe. We do not know where he is right now. It is largely presumed he may be back at maralago. That is on the other side of this bridge you see. That is about a 10 Minute Drive from the Trump International Golf Course, we are talking about Trump International, West Palm Beach, that is what you are seeing there. Palm beach is where maralago is located. Of course, maralago is an extremely secure location in terms of the president s security and safety. There are safe rooms there, places that were established when he was president of the United States still in effect. Lets go right now to Aaron Gilchrist and get the update from you. I understand you have more from the White House. Reporter um, alex, this actually is from the Trump Ly Campaign , a statement that was put out in the last couple of minutes here that says the Subject Line says, alert from trump. It goes on to say there were gunshots in my vicinity but before rumors start spiraling out of control, i wanted you to hear this first. And then in all caps unity, peace, make america great again. Donald j. Trump, the 45th president of the United States. This was, i believe, a fund raising email that went out to supporters of the campaign and the first statement from directly seemingly directly from the former president , in this incident near his Golf Course there in florida, alex. Yeah, he is not saying where he is or did i miss that . Do we know where he is . In the statement he did not say where he is, no. Okay. Thank you very much. I appreciate you bringing us that, Aaron Gilchrist. Nbc Justice And Reporter and correspondent Ken Dilanian is here. Give me a sense of what you know and what you can confirm of the incident that took place a little over two hours ago on the Trump International Golf Course. Reporter good afternoon, alex. Multiple Law Enforcement officials are telling Nbc News L that the secrEt Service fired shots at a man with A Gun pointing in The Direction of the Golf Course. This person was outside the boundaries of the Golf Course. Law enforcement has now recovered an Assault Style, ar Style Rifle. This man is in custody. NO One has yet told us they have confirmed that this person was intending to harm Donald Trump. Obviously, the secrEt Service received the threat, fired shots. It is unclear if this person was hit but he is alive and in custody, we are told. Again, with an ar style fought rifle outside of that golf ou course. It is unclear if he was even in a position, if he was targeting trump, to successfully take a shot at mr. Trump. The secrEt Service received a threat, fired shots at this individual and he was taken du into custody. That is what we know. It is frustratingly vague in terms of the ultimate mode s about this person but he is in custody. My Law Enforcement sources tellw me they believe they will know soon exactly what this was and what the motive was here. Yeah, part of this may be more clear in about 25 minutes or so when we expect the sheriff to brief here. We are told there will be a Press Conference at about 4 30 p. M. And also we are being told also that a portion of I95 North on has also been shut down as the investigation is ongoing. Ken, are you familiar, i believe Frank Figliuzzi was just describing to us The D location. It is not too far from the Palm Beach airport, we are told. Pbi are the Airport Initials there. I would assume that i95 is a bordering area there. I am looking at this map. It seems like that is not too far away. Shutting down part of i95, that is not done haphazardly or lightly. If that, indeed, is happening as well, what does that tell you about the scope of this investigation . It is another sign that this is a very serious incident. Along with the fact that the Attorney General, i just reported in the last few ed minutes, has been briefed and is monitoring the situation so all of these signs and signals are pointing to the fact this is a big deal. The closure of i95 is not done lightly. Obviously, one of the purposes behind that would be to canvas the area and be sure this person was acting alone or if there were any coconspirators and what this was in fact. Obviously, if this is just an innocent situation, a mistake or an over exuberance on the part of the secrEt Service, they would know that pretty quickly. That is not the indication we are getting by things like the closure of i95 and the Attorney General being briefed. This is a very, very serious situation, alex. 100 . We are getting conflicting information, i am, it would at stand to reason it is actually the Palm Beach county Sheriffs Office that will have that media availability, that News Conference at 4 30 p. M. En okay, let me go back to Frank Figliuzzi, if we still have zz him, of course, with us. Frank , with regard to the shutdown of i95, that information we are just getting, again, looking at this, map, it is hard for people to see but to the left of your screen, everyone, you can see that general area, there we go, thank you for launching that, my director, sean. You can see the area that is the Golf Course. I95 runs towards the top of your screen. It is not too far from the Palm Beach international airport. The fact they are closing down that area, does that indicate just, in the exercising extreme caution to you, frank . Or maybe there is Somebody Else . Would this be just normal procedure under the circumstances . So multiple reasons why this could be happening in a Couple E could be true. First, you already stated the y major decision to close down interstate i95 , at least for a stretch, that is just wreaking havoc. Why might they be doing it . If there is any information that there is another accomplice, there was Somebody Else in on this and there might be another person with that done, maybe the person detained has said something about that. Then you have a search that will go on. You will stop cars and question people. You will see who is turning around trying not to be questioned. There is that and also the possibility that this is some part of a crime scene, that somebody dumped something there, there is shell casings, t we dont know but there will be an evidence response team, largely from fbi in miami, i am guessing, that would want to take a look and treat this, perhaps as a crime scene, and the other thing, of course, is egress. If you have a protectee and they were thinking about where w to get him to quickly, the plan might have already have been, if weve got to be evacuated our protectee from this Golf Course, you shut down i95 in a hurry. That might have already been in place on any normal day. Again, what we are looking at, we want to be very clear, here is the shutdown roadway. It is not i95, it is just outside of the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach. For those of you unfamiliar with the area, you can go over that bridge and there is a water causeway. That is what separates west i Palm Beach from Palm Beach proper. They say it is a 10 Minute Drive or so under normal circumstances for Maralago Property to the Trump International Golf Course there in West Palm Beach. In this ch case, it was suggested they would have gone, the former ha president , they wouldve gotten him into a secure vehicle and brought him immediately to mar alago in about five, six, seven minutes. I am not sure what we are seeing here, some sort of motorcade, obviously. That looks like an official motorcade. Unfortunately, that has frozen. Give me a sense of why we would be seeing an official motorcade, um, because we understand it is the Palm Beach County Sheriff that is having this News Conference in about n 20 minutes. This may be something going towards the airport. Would this be the type of motorcade that might be conveying the former president towards Palm Beach international . Pa presumably his plane is parked there. I would want to know where is my threat . Is my Location Safe . Although maralago might be the Default Place to take him, is he sick or going there . Can i get him there . I is it safe there or better to put them on a plane . On 9 11 they evacuated President Bush and kept him on Air Force one the entire time until they felt safe to bring him back. It all varies. The size of the Motorcade Si typically stays the same, no matter what the movement is. W whether he is going to the Golf Course, going to the airport, you would typically see the same amount of vehicles. ThaT Motorcade tends to stay m intact unless you are under serious duress where you are s trying to speed out of there, which we dont know for sure how his evacuation went. We will see what that is. It is also possible when we are talking about the closure of 95, again, we dont know exactly if it is directly tl related to the investigation. It could be but also, since you are showing thiS Motorcade movement, they were moving the president somewhere else, is that another reason why they a closed the roadways . Currently, we have a current president , all roads get shut down. Highways get shut down, it is t always a nightmare when any president visited the city where, like new york, where you in iraq, just causes massive traffic. What are the things i thought of, did they shut it down for the shooter or the motorcade . Is it going somewhere . These are the things you dont know yet for sure. Give me your sense of that which we do know. This has been confirmed that the shots we know were fired at least by secret servtO One individual, who is now in Du Custody who had an ar Style Rifle on the perimeter, on the outskirts of the Golf Course there, Trump International Golf Course in Palm Beach. I the fact we are not certain yet whether this person fired off a shot, it makes it that the secrEt Service we know did fire the shots, what kind of ot circumstances of which would the secrEt Service take a shot like that . What would they have seen that would force them to pull the trigger . So you are able to pull the trigger, if you feel there is imminent threat. So somebody merely possessing a weapon does not give you the okay, the Green Light, to th engage, right . You can possess the weapon. Ca lets say your muzzle is pointed down to the ground, d youre not pointing it anywhere. In that moment, i am still able to mitigate the situation and deescalate. Use of force, shooting another s person, legal use of force, it is really the last line of defense before we go any further, let me just make clear, there is somebody in custody. There is no indication this person has been injured in any way. I just want to d make that very clear when you talk about using potentially lethal force. I am sorry to interrupt but i wanted to make that clear. Go ahead. Yes, when i say lethal force, that means the lethal force that the secret agent that was shot, in that moment that secret agent used Lethal Ec force. It does not mean i got my target, that is the force i use. If i had successfully gotten the target, lets say i shoot and i hit that person, whether or not i had them or not, it is not the accuracy, it is the use of force used. Anytime you use your weapon to shoot, that is called youth used lethal use of Force Et because you can kill somebody. Now, at the moment, this happened really quickly as an agent. Mostly, in any other capacity , in Law Enforcement, you are trying to figure out can i shoot or can i not shoot. You are literally watching the hands of that person. In training, they never taught us to look at people in the eye. They always say look at the hands. In this scenario, you are hi looking at that persons hands. Where are those hands on that weapon . Where is that muzzle pointed at . With regard to the hands, are the fingers on the trigger or not on the trigger. The finger can be on the side. These little nuances make a li difference. I will tell you, from the moment a person goes from being may be at an off position, meaning that the weapon is g pointed downward, the finger is not on the trigger to the pointr where they decide to even slightly move or engage, that ly takes seconds. As an agent, you e,have to be ready, within seconds, to take that shot. You have to do that Mental Math in your head. Is it okay to shoot or not okay to shoot . Okay to shoot or not okay to shoot . You are making that split second decision on somebodys life. For them to engage, it is very likely that weapon was moved by that person. That person lifted it up in ed some capacity, whether it was at an agent or elsewhere. At that point, it becomes the responsibility to do something. The moment that person pulls the trigger, not the agent, the person with the weapon, the moment they pull that trigger you are now responsible, to some extent, for what they do. If you could intercept and stop that from happening, you could protect the loss of other peoples lives. It is not just the life of the president of the united States N that you are responsible for. We saw this at the trump rally. Innocent people died. Everybody thinks with the secrEt Service you are just focused on your protectee. You are not. You are responsible for everybody else there. It is not just his safety. He is the threat, he is The Danger. When he moves, he brings, look at it this way, he brings trouble. You have to make sure the people in that perimeter are i safe. Otherwise, No One is going to go to rallies, No One will want to be around him. NO One will want to be a secret agent. Now for the president of the United States and everybody around him. Point well taken on all of that. I have a question about the specific gun we are told was in use and the effect of that on secrEt Service actions. Let me quickly tell you what we are seeing here, it is the Palm Beach County Sheriff, the office there, we are expecting a News Conference in about 15 minutes, or less, if they are on time. Let me ask you, evy, did you see the video of the motorcade . It would seem like thaT Motorcade would have housed, carried Donald Trump. We do know for a fact he has left the Golf Course. That has been confirmed. I dont know if you remember seeing the motorcade. It was coming over a bridge over that closed off road. Ha to your point, that is coming, you get roads closed as soon as you know what dignitary will be traveling, certainly the former president of the united States N or the president of the united if you saw that video, is that the kind of of motorcade you say, yup, that would house Donald Trump . Given where we are, we are in Palm Beach, West Palm Beach and one in Palm Beach county. Yes, it is very likely. One of the ways this factors is the limo. You know, the limo and the following vehicles tend to have distinguishing factors. At the beginning, why do we do this. Lets break down what a S Motorcade typically looks like. The Tail End of the motorcade, sometimes you will see motorcycles. That will typically be the local departments. The reason why those bikes are there, they kind of maneuver, they leapfrog a little bit forward, they block streets, they keep track of people coming into the motorcade, they secure the roads so the T Motorcade passes unimpeded. Typically you will see bikes being used. In it is actually quite a dangerous job and people to get hard on those bikes. That is what you had that leapfrog effort. Some vehicles on the side, a motorcycle will kind of depart c for the Motorcade And Help shield the motorcade. As you work back, you see a local Police Vehicle again and O One also at the back. Local police are the buffer. Think of them as a buffer to the secrEt Service. SecrEt Service always has the inner part. In a motor pay, the secrEt Service has a president , theyve got their vehicles immediately surrounding the president. Think of it that way because they are there. They have the weaponry, they h have the agents positioned just so, so that each agent has a tactical advantage to take action, whether through a window, the rear, whatever it is. You divvy up the 360 degrees that you see, everybodys got a chunk of it. From the rear, ive got the back. If i am to the side, got the one side. The idea is that the attack is coming and you engage. There is the element of the agents in with the president. They are there primarily just re to evacuate. They will not engage in a fight. The outer element is the Ou Element that will engage with a fight. Also, you might have a tactical test element, that is a counter assault team. They are the big guns, so to speak, on the u. S. Service service. They go immediately to the threat. If somebody, lets say, is Om Hiding in the field, the bushes, somewhere and they start engaging the motorcade, that element engages the threat. They immediately engage. There are all these different layers. Each layer does a specific function. It is really choreography. When you are onon the president detail, the amount of ambushes they practice, The Different types of attacks, you are getting attacks in urban environments, you are getting attacked in a rural environment, you are getting attacked on the road, somebody is putting things in front of you, you really practice for all these different types of th scenarios, even the angle from where the attack will come from. Without giving too many things away, there is an actual choreography that all the agents use. Depending on where the attack in is coming from, different agents will move strategically to different positions. May i ask, this, it appears to be, we are not able to get the video close enough to definitively know, but it appears there is an ambulance also in thiS Motorcade. Does that cause any concern for you . Is that just standard Operatinga Procedure . Yes, that is standard operating procedure. Any time you look at a sitting president , there will always be an ambulance. Because President Trump is a candidate, he is a former president , it is a really unique combo we have here, we also have his life under attack, an attempted assassination on july 13th, all these elements together, they have the ambulance about. Lets say there is immediate trauma in that moment. You are going to want to try to get him the help that he needs because perhaps maybe the hospital is far. You cant get him to the hospital. You have that medical element there to help deal with any imminent, immediate threats that perhaps you need to take Care Of in that moment. It is a really smart thing to have, a smart move, you absolutely want to have that medical element there. Law enforcement and the u. S. Service service do get medical training. We are trauma responders at first level. In case of ndsomething really, when you are dealing with something super dramatic or really dangerous where you want that next level expertise, you want that ambulance, you want those medics there to be there to give the support. Again, remember, it is not just the president , other people are there. Again, anyone looking at this and seeing an ambulance, there is no cause for alarm. We have been told former President Donald Trump is fine n and we have him having put out a message, as well, where he writes specifically, again from him, there were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, i wanted you to hear this first. I am safe and well. Nothing will slow me down. In i will never surrender. I will always love you for supporting me. May god bless you. You have that from the former president. So let me get back to a question i stalled asking you on because i wanted to get to what we were seeing live with thaT Motorcade and the fact that we know the former president has left Trump International Golf Course. Um, the style of weapon that is reportedly recovered, an ar Style Weapon, when we talk about the secrEt Service taking a shot, that has been conferred, again, we dont know if the person holding the gun also took a shot. But we do know the secrEt Service did. Is it because it was an ar Style Weapon, given this particular setup . You are outside, he is just in the perimeter of the golf pe course. The long range and also violent efficacy of an ar style ca weapon, does that Add A greater Green Light for secrEt Service to take what you said would be lethal action, should it be the case . Over just a regular, say J Somebody who just had a small gun in their hand . Does the style of Weapon Matter . It is not the style of weapon that matters. It is the action the person is taking. I want you to think of it this way. I am assessing the behavior of that person, not the Weapon P they carry. Because damage can be done with a pistol, an ar 15, a long range weapon, like a rifle. Different weapons are used for n different capacities but a bullet is a bullet. Again, even though i think they cant engage the president , the president is at a safe distance, there were other people in the environment. Again, you dont know where that bullet is going to go. Those travel far. You want to make sure it is going to hit something, you dont wanted to hit another Human Being so you assess the behavior. After the fact, they will look and see, this weapon, where did they get this weapon . Why did they get this weapon . How did they purchase it . Was it legal or illegal . Do they have additional weapons, an arsenal, are there explosives . What are we looking at l,here . They will do that assessment. As far as it comes with the moment to engage, you engage based on the threat of the behavior that person, not the actual weapon they are carrying. You may notice that this person is carrying along good or along weapon and you can do a little bit of a mental assessment of what kind of damage a specific weapon can do, pistol versus a Shotgun Versus a rifle, they have different capacities. In the end, a weapon is a weapon is a weapon. It is moving, he or she is pointing it somewhere. They may engage somebody. Now i have the ability to get, according to the use of Force E Ladder to engage this person. You always want to make sure the moment you engage your able to engage because, if You Ng engage sooner, if you engage maybe when the person nearly has that weapon in their possession and has appointed down to the ground and not doing anything with it, even as an agent, you will have to answer to that, why did you engage . What level did it go to where you felt it was the opportunity to take that shot . You must be able to answer that question. Evy, please stay where you are. Frank figliuzzi, i am hoping you are still with us. So my question to you would be, what is the fbi doing now . There is somebody in custody. Talk about the investigation a the fbi is conducting into this person, you know, social media, personal footprint on their computer and the website and er their home and all of that. If they are not necessarily from that area, again, we do not know who this person is in custody nor where they are from. We hope to get that information from the Palm Beach County Sheriff, really, anytime now when they have the News Conference which we will go to live. Give me a sense of what the fbi is doing and if this is not somebody, frank, who is not from the area, how engaged are the other fbi offices around ot the country trying to track un down who this person is and what may have led to this . Frank, i think you are on mute. There we go. Sorry, go ahead. There we go. Okay, great. Okay. By now, they have the identity of this person. And wherever they are from, there are going to be Search Warrants drafted. They may be in the works right now. And they would likely be federal Search Warrants, signed by a u. S. Magistrate, again, wherever this person is located. There might be multiple sites. There could be a Storage Facility found registered to them, a vehicle may have to be search, likely the residence. Any known Location Or Thing that is going to result in evidence of a crime. They will seek out a Search Warrant for. If it is somewhere else, outside of south florida, that field office, wherever that is, probably multiple offices, will do something, by the way, alongside the secrEt Service. They will not push the secrEt Service away and say you cant be in the interview. That is not going to happen. I think a lot of this will hand, though, on what this th person did. If indeed they were aiming at agents or at Donald Trump, then you are going to have, at a minimum, attempted assault on a federal agent, a secret De Service agent. T just to tack on, explanations, it is not just about that protectee. That imminent fear of death or serious Bodily Harm can be the agent saying, i was about to get shot. Theyve got to protect themselves and each other, as well. That is quite likely. It is a federal thing because he was aiming at a federal agent or protectee. Al absolutely federal. If there is nothing here, orhe never cracked off around, he says, look, i was just playing around with A Gun, this could be a joint thing where local police may actually have the lead. I dont think so but the fbi, we talked earlier in the last hour, they are throughout the Intelligence Community checking all databases for this individual for any chatter, even internationally. Because, as has been said, we are still under this iranian threat. They want him dead in retaliation for killing a high Ranking General of theirs. So that is still out there. This could be an international c incident. We dont know. This could be a mentally c unstable individual, as is often the case. Atf now will come in and start tracing that gun. Where did it come from . Di is he the registered owner . Was it reported stolen . Is it in his possession legally or not . All of this is being done, even as we speak. Frank, i do want to, actually, i will ask you to hold just a moment. J Ken Dilanian, justice correspondent, is joining me now. What you have . Reporter alex, just recapping what we know so far, we know that Law Enforcement officials are telling us the al secrEt Service fired shots at a man with an Assault Style rifle pointed in The Direction, of course, where Donald Trump was playing golf. NO One has told us this individual fired shots. NO One has told us this individual was intending to harm Donald Trump. What we know, based on what evy said, the secrEt Service fired their weapons so they had to have reason to believe their lives or Someone Elses lives or were in danger. It was not just a man walking with A Gun unless they violated protocol. That is the situation right at now, we are waiting for further information from Law Enforcement that the suspect is in custody. They have recovered an ctar Style Rifle and they are r trying to determine exactly what happened here, alex. Yeah, absolutely. Let me try to put a couple things together, information i am getting here from reputable sources. Um, we have been talking about The Difference between the palmf Beach County sheriffs department, which we are told me will be holding a News Conference right about now, again, we will bring it to you live when we get to it. There is also the question of the Martin County Sheriffs Office. They have posted on facebook it was the entity to stop a vehicle on the northbound interstate 95. We have also pieced together with reporting that i95 was shot down shutdown in part and it is apparently because of this stop by the Martin County Sheriffs Office on I95 Northbound. They have taken the Suspect H into custody. They believe this person is el connected to the shooting. It is not specifically saying it was the person with whom the ar Style Rifle was found. We dont know that. Could you explain The Discrepancy of having the Palm Beach county Sheriffs Office ino the Martin County Sheriffs Office involved here. What we should fssay, this particular person who was apprehended, again, who is believed to be connected to the shooting, we dont know if it was the person who was, at least we know holding an ar Style Weapon. We dont know if that person actually pulled the trigger and fired. We have only confirmed that the secrEt Service had done so. S apparently, this person was apprehended near palm city, florida, about a 45 Mile Drive North of the Trump International Golf Course. As we are looking at the motorcade We Saw earlier, it is safely presumed this is the president ial motorcade, given the types of armored vehicles we say in the front. Evy poumpouras did a wonderful job explaining what a president ial motorcade looks like and that certainly fits The Description. Rob damico, i would nllike to get your take on what i am reporting, if you could try to surmise why the martin County Sheriff would be involved with apprehending somebody connected to the shooting, again, no description, not being described specifically as a suspect. This is about 45 miles north of the trump Golf Course. I know this is speculation until we get exactly what we need to get from a News Conference coming up. But what does that tell you about how this went down . Does it suggest there is an accomplice . Does it suggest the person who the secrEt Service spotted with the ar Style Weapon took off and they were not able to stop him . He was again, outside, he or , she, male or female, we dont know, outside the perimeter of the Golf Course. What is your sense of this as we are trying to piece all this together . Absolute speculation but i am looking at two things. If the secrEt Service officer, agent, engaged someone with a e weapon, and they are now interviewing him, he is detained and they are interviewing him, it could havee been that there was a vehicle that when the shot went off quickly left the area. The description got out and it was spotted 45 miles North On 95. It could have been something that there was a Traffic Stop and somehow, something was in the vehicle that led to something and Martin County heard about the Trump Incident and something connected him to it and then they put something together. Or something that the person said, if that in fact happened. It could have been the car sped off when the shot went out, as they were interviewing him, something came up about who just left and the name was put out. That name was run in the Vehicle Description came out on The Database and then Martin County Law Enforcement saw the vehicle and pulled it over. There is something tying the two together. Until we really know what it is, it is a tough one. I think the least likely is they pulled someone over in that area and somehow they had something in the vehicle connected to the case. That is a bigger stretch then i think about the vehicle leaving quickly, maybe the plate was seen or somehow that information got back out and got to Martin County and they made the stop and are trying to sort it out now. Something ties the two together. Until they come out on that e briefing, hopefully they will tell us what that was. It does indicate there was s Someone Else involved, probable Cause Someone else was involved. Again, we dont know e the context in which there was any involvement at all. Let me welcome right now to our conversation on this Breaking News Coverage on msnbc, rob mcdonald, Retired Supervisor Special Agent for the secrEt Service. Rob, i am not sure how much you are familiar with things but fa most recently we have been getting information that there was, okay, an ar Style Weapon that was filed in the hands of somebody who was , in all likelihood, aiming that weapon. It was on the perimeter of the Trump International Golf Coursen while the former president was playing somewhere between the fifth and sixth holes. Likely the secrEt Service was doing a e normal sweep several holes ahead. This is a very alexpansive area we are talking about, a Golf Course. The most recent information we are getting is that a separate sheriffs department, not Palm Beach county, which would have jurisdiction over Trump International Golf Course, but the Martin County Sheriffs Office, has posted it stopped a vehicle on northbound interstate 95. It has taken someone into custody, who is believed to be connected to the shooting. Use your experience and let me know if you think it is more likely the person who was spotted by the secrEt Service, is the person who was apprehended some 45 miles away on i95 or is this someone, somehow connected to what has transpired . Well, good afternoon. It is very nice To Be With You all but we are talking about another horrific incident. Your speculation is right on but there is a lot of speculation here. I think we are about two and half hours into this. There must be some reason, as he said, why this vehicle was stopped about 45 miles away. Some connection, whether it is just happenstance at this point, or they did speed away or the Car Description was there, there is some reason the vehicle was stopped. Now, in the area of an investigation, which is a reconstruction of the past, these agencies that are involved will be working their way backwards to see if this person or persons is actually involved in the incident back at the Golf Course or if, again, if it was just, for some reason, thought to be connected and now we can figure out which way to go from here. Again, we are very early on here, a lot of unknowing , information. We want to try to sift through and see what we can catch, especially now, i think, with the Press Conference coming up shortly, i dont know if we will get a lot of information but we may get a few nuggets to help us clarify this. Rob, what we are seeing right now is in West Palm Beach, the West Palm Beach county Sheriffs Office that will be handling this Press Conference. We have not heard from the martin County Sheriff. Again, i have just gotten it as you were talking. I will read it to you. Apparently, bulletin went out. Martin County Police stopped a C Vehicle on the northbound i95. L the time between when the bulletin went out and the in apprehension of this vehicle was absolutely no time at all. They were very sharply on the lookout. The suspect they were looking su for, martin County Sheriff is claiming responsibility for apprehending that suspect. They know the r suspects name. The fbi knows his name, they are saying, we can presume it is male. Me they are not saying his name but he was the only driver in that vehicle who is now in custody and in the hands of the fbi. The Suspects Demeanor was calm, somewhat flat, it is being described, not displaying any kind of emotion, never even asked what is this all about . This person was not armed when he got out of the car. My question to you, from your secrEt Service background, if secrEt Service had taken a shot at somebody who was holding an ar Style Rifle, how is it that person, if the person i just described, apprehended by the Martin County Sheriffs Office on north i95, northbound i 95, 45 miles away, how is it that person was able to leave the area . If they are one and the same . Just talk about how close the secrEt Service would have gotten, their ability to close ranks around him, you know, cover on all flanks to prevent this person from getting away . R what would that be like when youre trying to take a Golf Course and all that open space, safe . The secrEt Services main responsibility in this incident is the protection of the formere president. They are working in concert with other federal, state and th local partners to deal with the apprehension if he was able to get away from the Golf Course area. The main responsibility for the former president s shift, as you saw on the stage on july 13th, was to take Care Of his protection, make sure he is safe and get him out of that general area. It is the other folks involved in other police entities existing in that protective mission to them worry about the apprehension of that individual through communication. I must say, if this person was apprehended in a very short period of time after that all Points Bulletin went out, terrific Police Work by that Ic Agency and all those other agencies along i95. The fact that the secrEt Services main responsibility is the protection of the formere president , it does not bother me they were not the ones to catch him when he was in and around the area of the Golf Course or after you left that area. The Bottom Line is the right communication happened and the person was subsequently apprehended. Yeah, absolutely. I 100 agree with what you are saying, but just to confirm, rob, the secrEt Service, their protocol and that which they are assigned to do is to protect the former president of the United States. They will not conduct a Chase Kind of thing if it is not in their purview to actually have hands on someone. They would immediately be calling local police, fbi, i mean, all of the Law Enforcement agencies that routinely are surrounding the president or former president , certainly the current Id President , as well, any dignitary like that. You think they have operated exactly as they should under the circumstances, as we are able to piece them together . T in this particular circumstance, if it allows for an apprehensive by an entity affiliated with the secret Et Service or an Agent Or Officer of the uniform division is able to apprehend him, terrific, that will happen. Ic in the circumstance where that person did not have any secrEt Service personnel in his immediate vicinity or able to at apprehend him, the main responsibility, again, is the Safety And Protection of the a former president. As you can see, with good communication within other entities working in concert with the secrEt Service, a positive resolution happened on the front end here. Lets go to to Frank Figliuzzi in just a moment but for All Of You, again, the most important information we have just gotten being from the martin County Sheriffs department, they are saying that a bulletin went out. Martin County Police stopped a vehicle on northbound i95 , the time between the Bulletin Ti went out and the apprehension of the vehicle was no time at all. They were on it. There is a suspect they were looking for, presumably, we hope to get this confirmed, that was the individual that was spotted on the perimeter of the Trump International Golf Course in Palm Beach, having an ar Style Weapon there. Lets go now to Ken Dilanian, i understand you have new information for me. Reporter alex, the fbi has just issued a new statement i where it says it is responding to what he calls an attempted assassination of former President Trump. That is obviously deeply significant because we have not been calling this an Assassination Attempt until now because of certain information we lacked. The fbi believes it was, they es offered no further details on that statement. We are trying to get in touch with them right now to understand why they are callinga this an attempted assassination against former President Trump. That is what they are saying and they have this person in custody. The fbi is responding. So that is obviously a very significant moment in this story, the attempted Assassination Attempt on the former president , alex. Re ken, let me ask you something if you are not able to answer i will go next to Frank Figliuzzi from the fbi, the fbi is investigation is for the attempted assassination of former President Trump. The words attempted assassination, how broadly might that be applied . We dont have any indication a shot was fired at the former president. Could it include anybody who may have wished to do harm . Someone who wasnt able to get close enough to do harm . But somebody who clearly had something terrible with their intent . Could that be classified as an attempted assassination . Reporter well, alex, it would go beyond a mere wish or even a threat. Obviously, there has to be some plotting involved. You have a man with an ar Style Weapon in the vicinity of the president. It that we know. Si we know those facts. What we didnt know or dont know if it was attempted where the person tried to fire a shot or fired a shot and the gun jams, mobile devices, Text Messaging and then this report from the sheriff of another person arrested on the highway. So the fbi obviously knows a lot more than we do right now and they are calling it an attempted assassination. That suggest, obviously, intent. So that is the picture. It isnt just someone who made a threat or who may have had information or an inclination, concrete steps were taken, including, we know, Person Withn A Gun in proximity to mr. Trump, alex. Every word counts. I can assure you that the national Press Office at Fbi Al Headquarters is approving any language that goes out. They are mulling over, as the punctuation. The fbi says they are investigating the attempted assassination, as ken said, there is some kind of hint at intent, criminal intent. Was that a spontaneous utterance that guy made to agents and or the martin County Sheriff deputies who may have pulled es him over, as they are claiming, was he read his Miranda Rights . We could talk in the next hour about the legality and criminal procedure applied to this in terms of applying for Search Warrants and all of that, but that language, even in the affidavit, some fbi agents will be declared an effient. He or she will be the case agent. They will go before a magistrate and they have to tell the judge, the judge will ask, why do you want to get into this Car Or House . They will say we have evidence of the attempt on the life of a former president and more importantly right now, nominee for president , here is what pr that evidence is. We will also, you know, there is a conflict here, i am catching bits and pieces. We know the fbi knows who this is, does that mean we had prior knowledge of him . Was he in their files . Is he your frequent flyer with the secrEt Service . Someone who rants and raves and writes letters . We dont know but something has absolutely caused the fbi to deliberately categorize this as an attempted assassination. As i read the information, again, this is from the Martin County Sheriffs Office, with regards to the person they had brought into custody on i95 about 45 miles or so north of the Trump International Golf Course. Ou what does that tell you . In past incidences, we have seen this where someone has gone into what we call the execute mode. They have a number of people, you know, in their sites they keep an Eye On. If this person is local to the Palm Beach area there in florida, what are the chances this person would be known to the fbi, at least in some way they were aware of . It could be possible. Intelligence gathering is done all the time. Threat cases happen all the time. Names are run through n various databases, various threats coming in all the time. I they dont get a lot of press, they are just taking Care Of. Interviews are conducted to make sure the people are not, hopefully, coming to act out on any of the threats. We have a very large database and a very large, great Community Relations with all of those other state and federal and local partners. When any Entity Or Person comes to our attention or to any Ti Other agencys attention, with respect to threatening any of our protectees, that information is passed real time. It would not surprise me, as your previous guest indicated, that this was a person that may be known to us, may be known to the bureau, maybe no to local e police. All of that information is going on right now. All of those name checks, i am sure they are heading to the persons residence, talking to Family Members to see what is going on, as you are guessing, was it a mental Health Situation or do they have medical issues . What is going on with the person right now . What has been going on with that person in the recent past that may have led them to involve themselves in this type of activity today. All of that stuff is going on right now behind the scenes and probably waiting for that Pressy Conference to come as all that information is being gathered and potentially some of that will be passed on to you, the media and All Of Us watching. Yeah, i mean, when we talk about, as you know, as secrEt Service keeps an Eye On them, doesnt come from the Bureau T but it comes up and is passed over the secrEt Service and they keep an Eye On somebody. Actually, with the president is in the area and they know where he or she is located at, sometimes they will do advance visits and stuff. In this moment, you are looking at, how did the sequence happen in 45 minutes, 45 miles, i95 in south florida, the average speed is 80, 90 miles an hour. Doing that, i have been back several times. Again, how that information got back and up to the North Area where they put the lookout is, they were paying attention. There were probably calls that went out, they knew what routes they were going. They probably started putting some people on route 95, on the overpasses or on side of the road, looking for a vehicle, probably doing an excessive speed. That led to that quick interaction. That is just good Police Work. I forget which one of you commented and said, they have been working now almost 8 years together since trump got into office , together on all these e different things. Local, County Sheriffs, the police departments, fbi and secrEt Service have been doing this almost 8 years together. All the roles were known. Information gets passed very quickly. When you look at what happened in pennsylvania, i think part of that was part of complacency, very and complacent and didnt do enough of these events. Since that time, everything has been ratcheted up. One, because it could happen b because it did happen. Everybody is on alert mode. When you see someone with an ar 15 weapon aiming it, probably in the general direction, they could get that. When they talk about the charges for the attempted assassination, if he was pointing the weapon in The Direction of the president , that is an overt act they could put on as an attempt on the president. He is aiming a weapon in his Direction And Something he utters during the stop could lead to that. They deathly will be safe and i think the fbi Got Hit before for not saying Assassination Attempt early enough in the pennsylvania one. They are coming right out and saying, look, we will treat this as an Assassination Attempt. That is what you are starting to see. Based on everything that happened in pennsylvania, what could you have done different . You are starting to see all those things done differently because this is their second chance to do the same type of investigation and Law Enforcement activity. Yeah, makes sense. One, in their conversation with the former president , this again happened moments ago, this Phone Call they have with the former president , he was talking to his Golf Game and he also just continue to say he was glad to be alive. That was a conversation they had of the incident that took place. That person was also able to confirm to me that trump was golfing with steve wycoff, a longterm Friend And Donor to the former president. In terms of what this will look like for the former President F for media, actually speaking about this on camera, that source said trump was not expected to do any media this Evening Or Tomorrow before Thisn Incident took place. That is now up in the air. Theyre not quite sure if he will do anything soon. We will watch for updates as we learn more potentially and hear from the former President Today or tomorrow. What we do know is what he said, the motorcade that we did see was able to be confirmed it was trumpS Motorcade departing the Golf Course. The spokesperson said, in speaking about the former president and the incident, they were able to tell me that he was held at the Golf Course for quite a long time because that is where they believed was the spaces save a spot for him to be during that so they did not feel a need to rush him back to maralago. It made Sense Safety wise to stay in that holding safe place, wherever that was at the Golf Course. ThaT Motorcade shot was confirmed to be trumpS Motorcade. We do not have confirmation he is currently at maralago. That is good to know. I will quote evy poumpouras, former secrEt Service and nailed Msnbc Analyst who told us actually when someone is on the move, that may be one of the least save times for a principal, like that. He was at Trump International Golf Course, his property, place he is very comfortable, a place he typically goes golfing in the morning with friends, he will often have a Lunch Date around that time, as well. This all happened, everybody, if you just tuned in, it happened about 10 minutes or go or so about 2 00 eastern time. We have now passed the three Hour Mark since this particular incident happened. It would seem that the former president was kept at his property in a safe place on the property for a good, about an hour and a half before being allowed to leave. We know he has left the property.
