Meanwhile in the land were stupid rains, you have reporting, probably shouldnt, so surprise republican lawmakers are indifferent to the former president making his claims about eating cats and dogs, they largely support him spreading the conspiracy. And interviews witH More than two Dozen Gop lawmakers, this is what struck me about this, republicans brushed it off. Brushed of these allegations that Haitian Immigrants are stealing and eating pets in springfield. They didnt care the trumps claims during a president ial debate were predictably not true. The Vice President declared that Donald Trump is unserious. What is worse is the people around him who should know better are just as unserious about this. How does this particular narrative in your estimation play out during the next few weeks of this campaign is voting starts in one day . We are five days away. Other policies that trump mentioned that anyone is talking about . Everyone is talking about a Scene Phobic like. You have people in a town that cant send their kids to school right now who walkable smashed windows and graffiti. You have a sitting senator is demonizing people in his owns state. J. D. Vance is doubling down on the rumor that im sure some of those People Mightve voted for him. This is a kind of thing that makes people say, i dont like voting for the guy. This is the racism that goes so far that even conservative white people, i cant do that. When you have gotten to the point where Marjorie Taylor Greene is arguing with someone and says thats too far and this is somebody his entire political career has been about Bomb Throwing and dishonesty and intellectual ridiculousness. That is with the Trump Campaign has done. What im concerned about, frankly, is that republicans dont care. Was thats what trump is in trouble. That haitians reinvigorated the town. Ask one of the major manufacturing centers there who says, i wisH More people like the haitian families that have come here would come because they have been so helpful in such great people to work with. They show up on time. They get here and say i wish we had more people like that. He literally was talking about the Patient Community being an uplift in Work Quality and behavior at the job. Thats why j. D. Vance is a senator from ohio. You would think the first thing he would do is go down or maybe talk about this but not demonize people who literally are his constituents. They have nothing else in the absence of policy or the understanding, the Way Project 2025 is not popular with the american people. They have to stimulate hate. I want you to listen to this from President Biden talking about the need he says immigrants, black and brown immigrants, poison the blood of our country. Right now, his Running Mate is attacking the Haitians Americans in ohio. It is wrong. Its got to stop. Any president should reject hate in america and not incite it. It should be disqualifying. We know its not at this point. We have lived through an election that we thought would be disqualifying so when you hear voters having watched the debate say, i need to hear more from Kamala Harris. What does it say to you . I dont like black people. Lets be honest. Its one of those disingenuous arguments you hear where people say i need to hear more policy. Thats like when you hear i dont like Negative Ads. You know you like Negative Ads as long as its attacking the people you dont like. In my lifetime, one of the most substantive debate was a second one between Romney And Obama which sounded like an economic class. Really do have president ial debates where people bring out a chart and explain things like its economics 101. What you are saying is i dont trust the Black Lady who has more experience in government than any Candidate Weve had over the last 25 years. If you want to know harriss policies, look at her website. You can listen to a debate. At the end of the day, its an issue of trust because if the idea is policy is your driving force, you have 900 pages of project 2025 and i bet you have not read that. I never buy that argument. Her most successful thing i think she did was i had a group of my students watch in their firsttime voters. They were impressed by what they heard. Most of them are cynical about politics, but they understood when she talked about, i think i know what an economic opportunity is and what It Means to get 50,000 for this and that. And she seemed president ial. That is the big part of it. You use the most important word for me. That is trust. I think voters when they are looking at two individuals, one of whom they are familiar with, the new face. To symones point, the Vice President s face is not new because shes been doing the job on a number of levels. Foreign capitol, the leaders of Foreign Capitol say, i cant wait to work with her because she is great. Why . Because they worked with her over the last few years. Set that aside. If youre going to come to the table fresh, its the idea of trust. Do i trust you to be a president . When you are still saying, oh, well, i need more. I dont know what the more i can give you . I just dont know. If im hitting the trust button, if im hitting the, do i look residential button, if im hitting the policies up and down my Website Button because trump is saying, mine is on my website and i project 2025. Can i say something . Gave an example and tell a story that says, you think of the phrase, Boy Next Door, image pops into your mind. The image the probably pops into your mind is, we could describe what the image of a Boy Next Door is. Theres a particular image that could pop into Everyones Mind about the Boy Next Door. Its also the same when you say, let me describe a president. Thats an image that pops into peoples heads. Im not faulting people say i need to hear more, but i do think people need to step back and say, ask themselves, what is it that you are looking for . If its to michaels Point And Everyones point here is i dont know if i could see her as president. I dont know if i could trust her. The lady has been the Vice President of the last almost four years and twice has acted as the Acting President for two different scenarios. I think people need to rethink what it is that we believe who it is we think should be in certain positions. That is a big part. That is work we have to do as a society. The other day during the debate, i believe it was, and the idea of the image that we have, you talk about the Boy Next Door. Whats the image of a president . The image of a president is a man. Barack Obama Kind of broke the white male image by getting elected. Now the question is, is the image of the president include a woman . If they cannot see her behind the resolute desk, that is where she has got to start and i think they can, but they have to be honest about that image. I think they can because the contrast is so ridiculous. Thats what it boils down to. She is running against somebody who doesnt seem very president ial and he had the job for several years. Say it again. He had the job. I think, i dont think anyones fundamental philosophy of Race And Gender will be changed in 50 days. If thats how you feel, thats how you feel. If i am the harris campaign, rather than focusing on changing the mind of a 53year old guy like i dont know of a lady can do this job, go get some 20yearolds. Get young people who will be voting for the first time. Due were cases in georgia to make sure people can turn out. You Cant Change Peoples Mind that late in the game. People say they dont trust her, i voted for her. Thats why the Campaign Hasnt leaned into Race And Gender in terms of the history that will be made. Everyone knows the history that will be made. I argue they are campaigning on the issues and going to voters on the issues and the people with them and maybe people who didnt think they were with them but maybe they could be. Its 50 some days. Its still yet to expand medicaid. What is at stake here is literally life itself, Health Care access is a substantial issue. We have had three hospitals close since weve been in this race. Thats what is at stake here. We will keep doing everything we can but its a competitive seed that we made as much help as we can to get across the Finish Line. For me is someone who has plotted the course of campaigns as a county chairman, state chairman, national chairman. Its always the races that are closest to the people that are the most fun. [ laughter ]. You are running them . Its not hindsight. I think in this moment, the hardness of running a campaign, the hours, the crazy stuff you have to deal with. As a candidate, the voters does since you are having fun with this, that you actually want to do this . That has as much of an impact on how they perceive particularly in a district like you are in where year and it d two district . With the voters i think are looking for in the selection is a sense of authenticity. They want to know you are in it to win it and that you can relate to their wishes. I am a mom of four. Any issue you can think of, i probably had a. Housing, access to reproductive Health Care, when my daughter was a for graduate schools. She and his friends set or not going to schools where our rights were not protected. They were adamant about that. Kids launching into the world with a mountain of debt. The importance of elevating the voices of black voters. As we barrel toward election day, your thoughts about the stakes in your particular race. Absolutely. It means, cheer. Because of the history of the district in the history of how we got to this district. Its a district that includes a heartbeat of the civil Rights Movement. The birthplace of the civil Rights Movement and what i consider to be the most important american city of the 20th Century in montgomery, alabama. The district that is the birthplace of the civil Rights Movement. The birthplace of john lewis. Tuskegee airmen, booker t. Washington. This is that district and we are running on a district where the voting Rights Act was fought for and bled for and died for right here in this district. This district we are running for is a product of the same. The message is people understand that history and realized the importance this district has played to america. You know, and the time we have left, i wonder if you could both respond to the impacts you think Vice President Kamala Harris is having at the top of the ticket and how your constituents are responding to what i would argue is the fallout from Donald Trumps to be performance. First shomari and then representative will go to you next. Its having a tremendous impact. A woman who can represent and resonate in a way weve not seen a top of the Ticket Candidate before, especially this district i am and. Hbcu graduate, we have tuskegee University Right here in this district. Being a black woman, we have a disproportionately high number located in the south. Its a state that has the most hbcu of any state in the country. Being able to resonate with people here is exciting them and motivating them and inspiring them. It is given the added bump of energy in a state that we know will not be competitive but that doesnt stop people in alabama. We are taking the message with this and you can find out more about it. When this is a defense, they said its difficult to relive but its important to them they continue to raise their voices to tell their Sons Story to get some semblance, i dont even know if we can call it justice. Accountability. This in my opinion is its an example of why the president s matters. If anyone believes a Trump Justice Department would be bringing charges in a federal trial like this . Under the leadership of merrick garland, but kristin clark, who leads the civil rights division, its that division that ensures Accountability Holding Police Officers like this accountable. Elections matter. Things like this are on the line for our country in the communities. The George Floyd Act will not be signed into law by Donald Trump. It will not, republicans will not get behind this idea of bringing that accountability to the table. You know, families suffer through this. They have to go through these trials. They have to sit in those courtrooms. The country as a whole can respond. To address future events from happening and if they do occur, to have mechanisms in place that will bring about that accountability, and it matters who you send to your state capitol, it matters who you sent to washington. If you want these things to get addressed. They are not otherwise. They just are not. Its like what we see in shootings of columbine and classrooms around the country. No one wants to take accountability for it. Legislatively, you can address it. You can do something. You dont. It matters who is sitting in those seats to have those votes. Can i make a point about George Floyd Policing act. I worked in the White House when they were trying to get a through and having conversations. It boiled down to the Sheriffs Unit and the Police Union who were unwilling to endorse the idea of getting rid of qualified immunity. There were multiple negotiations. Senator booker was talking to Tim Scott and he was representing the Police Union. They would not budge. That was the holdup. The reason the George Floyd Act would not pass his senators were unwilling to buck the Police Unions. Tyre nichols should be alive today. George floyd should be alive today. We can go down a line of the names of people that we know and theres so many others we dont know whose names didnt hit national news, who should be alive today. One bill will not fix everything. So, i think Vice President Kamala Harris has given All Of Us permission to do the same and we need to stand up to this cruelty and the fascism and put a stop to it is only we can. Mary, The Thing that a struck me about Donald Trump from the very beginning. I first met him in 2013. It is, is a person of politics, he has no political core. And so, i found it interesting that the man who had no political core and no orientation towards republicanism but look at someone like me and someone like Liz Cheney and call us rhinos. In the context of that, i want to play for you Donald Trump reacting to republicans for harris efforts, and with that conversation, lets take a look. A lot of them are liars but we have a lot of people that are democrats that are voting for me because they cant stand the open borders. They cant stand the stupid, as an example, terminated the russian pipeline. The biggest one in the world. Nobody ever heard of nord stream 2. He comes in and lets them build that any terminates the Keystone Pipeline which was so important to us as a country. The unit got to him, somebody got to him. Just so everybody understands, the question that he just answered was, what is your reaction to people who are republicans who say theyre going to vote for Kamala Harris . In helping me understand, hopefully others understand too , why there is a following someone who wasnt mentally capable of putting together a complete thought around a simple question about, what your reaction to x . Theres so much going on. First, for second to something you said earlier, donald has no i ideology. He has no Core Self at all. One of The Things that makes them dangerous as every relationship he has weather with other politicians or with his children, its transactional. He will do whatever people want him to do if he, if they help him get back at and power. In terms of what we are seeing have been with his inability to hold a thought, this is somebody who has severe psychiatric disorders going back decades. He is unraveling. This is what happens when you dont treat illnesses. They worsen. It is much worse than translating him. As you said, he doesnt make sense. What people are doing, a lot of people in the media are doing is they are imbuing meaning into his statements that does not exist. That is not translating. Thats giving him a huge advantage. Essentially, making up out of whole cloth whatever they want him to mean. Its very dangerous. So, i think just letting people listen to what he is saying without telling them what they should be hearing is very important. I said this before and i think it would be an interesting experiment when donald was at the height of his legal problems, we had legal experts, is we should, helping explain what was going on. We should do the same with experts in human psychology. We should have psychologist, psychologist, helping us understand what is going on with this deeply broken man. To marys point about giving added context to what hes saying so people absorb it differently is important. And i was a spokesperson, people used to write my quotes as i set them. Is they should. If i didnt use the best words, if i wasnt as clear as i should be, they didnt put context around what i said. They would print it. I am so struck by the way in which some in the media have bent over backwards to add Context And Structure to what trump has said and for all the talk about the Media Bias for democrats, there is a strong insatiable need to explain Trump And Dad structure to what he is saying from some in the apparatus. Yeah, and some of that is bias. Its a Human Impulse to fill in the blank. We want to be able to understand. I think it is, as he is worsen, that impulse has grown. It is so important to have conversations like this because it alerts people to what is actually going on. We have seen this recently. We saw it at the debate for sure. He cannot hang on to coherent, to any coherence in his thinking, in his speaking, and he always comes back to the most basic, primal cruelty. We see this with what he and his Vice President ial Running Mate are doing. Vis vis the tragedy in springfield, ohio. They are going to the lowest common denominator and endangering peoples lives because its all theyve got, honestly. It is a way to distract from their very serious deficits and away the key people angry and afraid. I think we need to be clear of what is happening.
