Campaign boiled down to two big factors. The message, which takes endless repetition from the candidate, the surrogates, the ads. All the millions of dollars spent repeating the message. That is one part of the campaign but you might have heard some of the lines are variations on them from harris and her allies before. The other part is momentum. What we are seeing this week, they might have been seemingly logical Tuesday Night and even Wednesday Morning as it sunk in that room had a terrible Debate And Harris had a good one. It was only built in the last few days and harris doing, as i mentioned, a new television interview. She is ditching the Debate Performance and the perception of that performance, not really close, not one of our pole arise contested things where republicans and democrats see the economy differently. She is seizing on the fact that it has become clear as we have reported and shown you that voters think she won it many republicans admit chicory won and shes you for momentum. And that brings us to Tim Walz who was out in michigan, part of the blue wall they want to win. Using the debate, a performance, Donald Trumps failure on the stage to build the campaigns momentum. Take a look. There was one person on that stage who should be the next president of the united states. One person. She commanded the room and i know all of us are incredibly proud of Vice President harris. Let us be clear, none of us were surprised of what happened. From the get go she had the upper hand. Walking in giving the handshake it says something about character. I have to ask, do you think we should do another one . I said, every day we should do another one. Of course. It is not going to happen because Donald Trump confirmed that he is not doing another one. Give them a little break. That one left a mark. That one left a mark. Who he was was on full display the other night. His true colors were out there. Not just as makeup. We are so accustomed to him getting away with things and running away from his record that the combination of Kamala Harris being very good at this and that is demonstrated but also evolution and learning. With in the media and the Fact Checking that occurred at the debate, which is not been standard as well as our civic discourse, i think more people are on to the tricks. And the lies and the bs. The idea here but Donald Trump both lost and is running away from her, running away from another debate and has been forced to tell the truth about that. After like author tuesday, Kamala Harris and her Campaign And Efficacy has him telling the truth, apparently, on this issue by friday. Which is he does not want to debate her again and he did not handle her truth. He is running away. That brings us to some wisdom from the great bob marley. You are running, you are running, and you are running away, but you cannot run away from yourself. Sometimes lyrics have psychological wisdom and some times they have political application. Donald trump cannot run away from who he is and who he has been for some time. The fact that he is less aware of how it is playing and it played poorly, that he has been allegedly fighting with his own senior campaign leadership. He went out in the Spin Room to try to say what others would not to double down on things like pet eating. He cannot run away from himself and he is early, based on the evidence we have, not about to change in a more reflective or accountable person. At this late stage in his career and campaign. Harris is in pennsylvania, which is a critical state. We can tell you some of the numbers. The Harris Campaign is pouring money in, which speaks to the fact that it is still close and republicans and Donald Trump have very good fundamental in that state. Look at this from the time. A quarter of the Ad Spending through Election Day going to pennsylvania. Which remind you have that delicate rich estate matters. Even if they think the Harris Campaign is doing great, even if they think she might be up by a hair, they cannot risk losing pennsylvania. It is not a good map for them if you lose pennsylvania to win the electoral college. I have mentioned and i have said this in our colleagues talked about this. We talk about it Tuesday Night and wednesday, more than one person on this channel set, heres how she won. Look at the substance and the facts we have to wait to see what the voters think debates are not scored by the media or a judge. There is no jury like in court but come out with a ruling the next day. They are judged more broadly over the days and weeks ahead. We are ending the week and i can show you over half surveyed say that Donald Trump stumbled and did not appear sharp. Look at the gap between the 52 that say he stumbled and only about one out of five total voters who said they watched said that about harris. Americans also weigh in on the winner, a whopping 53 say harris won. Only 24 could muster that view for trump. In fairness to Donald Trump, i mentioned this earlier this week and i will say it now. Sometimes we repeat things. 24 of people familiar with the debate saying, trump won. It means a heck of a lot of people who voted for trump in the past or are republicans do not think he won that is a problem for Donald Trump it is a shockwave. It does not mean those people will not vote for him but it depresses even the enthusiasm of his past voters. This brings me to the commentary. We live in a world where we hear, especially from the maga side, constant lies. It became a Litmus Test to lie about the results of the 2020 election Donald Trump was the loser part one of the test was to publicly lie and claim he was not the loser. But he was. Donald trump is the loser of the 2020 election, fact. I said it then and i will say it now. Many prominent republicans trying to keep Power Or Influence in maga world, either wont say it or directly lie about it. Lobar here. Some of those same people who have flirted with that appear to feel the need to just tell the truth about the fact that they think trump blew it. Maybe that is because they feel like telling the truth or is because some of them want to get through to him to say, big guy, you keep doing this and you might be more likely to lose. Some acknowledging where harris had her mark. Take a look. Whoever did the debate for Donald Trump should be fired. He decisively lost it he was terrible. He took all the debate and then of the opportunity. . She is an intelligent capable person who has a Point Of View on issues. On immigration that is where she derailed him. Harris clearly won the debate. I thought harris won decisively. Harris was clearly well prepared, practice on the offensive much of the night. Trump had a bad night. You talk about migrants Eating Dogs and cats. That is something Saturday Night live would do. Yet he went down a few Cat And Dog hole. I think that he loses because of this Debate Performance. Every voice you just heard was either a fullblown conservative, who spent their entire Adult Career as a conservative or someone in the fox news firmament. Bill oreilly and Frank Luntz and rfk junior, who has just really Donald Trump and trying to help him. I could have showed you many more minutes of people who are just independent experts or voters, let alone democrats and liberals. That is just the conservative side. Now imagine what they are saying to each other the cameras off and in private. Rfk jr. Is saying that in public and he appeared on the stage with Donald Trump, he can speak to him and the campaign, imagine what theyre telling the campaign to a wonder there will not be another debate. They do not think they can improve his performance, no one wants to let them go get smacked around intellectually and politically by the Vice President again then there is the punchline thing. We show you culture on this program because we do have an interesting culture but we also show it because it tells you where things are. If it is a punchline to a national and bipartisan audience, you know that is something people are aware of. Nothing sounds more president ial than screaming they are eating the cats and dogs. You can bet that bothers him but it also bothers the people around him who are trying to change the trajectory to make it more likely that he could win. Another point that is tracking whether you follow this on the Internet Or Tiktok or newspapers and television but we are in a world where the media that people consume matters. A viral moment in the debate just meant the actual thing that happened being shared online. Or remember the dean scream, howard dean, he screamed in a way that people made fun of and they kept sharing the video. Now we have tiktok where people can easily upload their own reactions or remixes or jokes or what they think. Out on tiktok we are seeing how people are digesting this debate. I dont know, donald, if you really wanted to be president you would be barking like a dog right now. Everyone agrees. [ laughter ] there i did it, i bark like a dog. She is there to win over voters and decrease the margin in the counties. That is crucial for her. She needs to improve by a handful of percentage points among white workingclass voters in pennsylvania. And that is why you saw the message with being focused on economics and the middle class. Also, she was able to project a type of strength. She is a Woman Candidate but she look strong and she looks stronger than the former president at that debate. He wants to be a dictator on Day One and that is not the Rule Of Law. You mentioned people who have some experience. We live in an area where a lot of expertise is attacked, degraded or dismissed and then there are those conversions, if you really need a doctor, you might respect him more. I think it is interesting because you just said what you and gonzales and others, Liz Cheney, have in common here. Having been in the room and seeing how hard it is, seeing that on the big issues when you talk about the abuse of power or the military going to happen or not, there are guardrails but they come later. Make up after the fact. It would seem that each of you are concerned that in a second term, the guardrails might not hold the same way. Is that a fair warning about trump . Most definitely. Shortly after January 6th, in everything we learned in the January 6th committee, it is clear that the guardrails are not there. And the people who saw that up close the most, Vice President pence, his staff. All those people who even though they may not have come out for Vice President harris at this point, they are clearly not supporting him. People like his chief of staff, John Kelly. He left before January 6th but he has commented on it. He is famously made the statements about Donald Trump and his remarks about our war debts, our war heroes, suckers and losers. I know John Kelly, myself, he was a constituent. I do believe him and certainly anyone who knows John Kelly believes him over Donald Trump. He fell in with a dishonorable person. The reason i opposed him back in 2016 is the misogyny and Liz Cheney talked about that. I think that is why you see so many republican women opposing him and i think there will be more. This is the most misogynist ticket that you have ever seen. J. D. Vance only magnified and multiplied that even more. Liz cheney call them a Misogynist Pig and i second that emotion that i have a daughter and four granddaughters. When i came out not only in opposition to Donald Trump, it affordably supporting the Vice President i felt her record as a prosecutor of crimes, that was important to me. Someone who is reaching out to women and really supporting women and welcoming republicans and those of us who are disaffected and standing up for women who have been victims. That was something that was really ingrained in her from the time she was, you know, a young person, a high school student. She told the story at the convention. I think about of those things that are really ingrained in the Vice President really did appeal to those of us who find Donald Trump so offensive and disqualified for this office as a Felon And Someone who has been adjudicated of sexual assault. He knows Taylor Swift is a huge deal. He posted some a. I. Images with the false claims online. And we will come back to that in a moment because it hurt him. First, the news that rocked the political and musical world on debate night. Taylor swift coming out on the Big Night to back the Harris Walz Ticket officially. And not to send a statement to the political press but owning it and blasting it to all of her followers on my. The endorsement of every politicians wildest dreams, the most famous Cat Lady in the world. One voter ready to speak now. Taylor swift is now in her endorsement era. Donald trump will have a hard time shaking off that debate. She had 283 Million instagram followers. She says, quote, i will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. I am grateful to Taylor Swift. I say that as a cat owner, a fellow cat owner. I am so tired of running as fast as i can but when i get there faster if i were a man . This may be at opening for both Girl Dads for harris. Perhaps the most anticipated and most consequential president ial Celebrity Campaign Endorsement that we have seen. The most consequential, the Running Mate responding in real time. He knows it helps the Harris Walz Ticket. Swift has turned her following into civic action before even in far less hyped and known races. About six years back, she supported democratic candidate in tennessee, which caused Voter Registration to skyrocket. A lot of people in politics could learn something from her right there. Republicans in the Maga Crowd have died of the pressure on swift since then. Which is a sign they view her as a threat of someone who can affect their power and campaigns. Rightwing voices online were taking a strike with the Conspiracy Theories about some bite impacted to take over the Super Bowl with a biden swift endorsement deal. That did not happen but that Story Line was trying to suggest something sinister about her civic role to bully and quiet Herbert Maga pundits were on the attack. If she imposed trump this time, her Career And Life would even get worse. Some pledge to, quote, a Holy War Against Taylor Swift if she backed the democrats at that time when biden was the nominee. That brings us back to Donald Trump trying to muddy the waters with her playbook of lies. He posted the faults claims about the endorsement. I showed you the headlines. Note were Taylor Swifts new endorsement begins. She calls out trumps abuse of the a. I. Images to falsely suggest that she is somehow endorsed the president ial run. And owning that he is responsible because it was posted to his site. She begins with a clear rebuttal. In this time of misinformation, which is something people in The Public Eye face. Quote, the simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth. She shares her troth as i your support for harris and walz, contrasting. Com to Donald Trumps you see what she says there, it could be led by, quote, and not chaos. Im talking to you through tv, which is an older medium. Old school communications tend to be oneway and at a distance. The world is changing. Taylor swift is a sophisticated Leader And User of the tools today. Which are far more direct and participatory. It is not random but quite striking that she used a very particular message to get into the weeds of action within the same endorsement announcement.
