There are 53 days until Election Day and today was all about reaching out to voters in deep red parts of battleground states, like in johnstown, pennsylvania. The county in which Donald Trump won 68 of the vote in for the last election. And in wilkesbarre, pennsylvania were Donald Trump won with 57 of the vote in 2020. Thats where Kamala Harris was today. And she wasnt the only member of the Campaign Rallying Voters in battleground states. While Vice President harris was in Pennsylvania Today Governor walz was in michigan and wisconsin. Doug was in one of the most trump places in florida. Tim Walzs Wife in the main second congressional district. Donald trump won the district, one electoral vote in maine, in both 2016 and 2020. Kamala harris is making it clear that shes building a coalition of democrats, moderates and conservatives with a new campaign ad. Is a prosecutor i never asked a victim or witness, are you a Republican Or Democrat . The only thing i ever asked them, are you okay . And thats the kind of president we need right now. Someone who cares about you and is not putting themselves first. I intend to be a president for all americans and focus on investing right now in you, the american people. There are a lot of ways to do that and lift people up one of them is our small businesses. I was sharing with these guys, someone that was like a second mother to us from a small business owner. From childhood i have been acutely aware of who you guys are. Right . You are creating a space that is a safe space where people are welcome and know that they are encouraged to be with each other and feel a sense of belonging. In the midst of so many forces that are trying to kind of make people feel alone or divide us i think its really important that we are intentional about creating these kinds of spaces. Meanwhile, Tim Walz addressed supporters on the University State Campus in east lansing, michigan. Heres the thing. 33 days. 53 days, i can assure you, the rest of the world is wondering what the heck happened to our country when one president ial candidate on stage is yelling they dogs. And the other one is talking about how to make housing more affordable. Governor walz was talking about Donald Trumps racist, made apply. Meanwhile, the Vice President husband rallied voters at the villages. The largest Retirement Community in the country were Donald Trump won 60 of the vote in 2020. He did not have the courage to look at her even one time. Im going to get to that. She didnt have that problem of looking him right in the eye during the debate. Did she . Lets see. She looked him right in the eye and said, you are a disgrace. She looked him right in the eye and said, World Leaders are laughing at you. She revealed, to the entire world, what he is. A fraud. Donald trump doesnt care about families like mine. He cares about himself. And pennsylvania, its time to turn the page once and for all. That is why we are not going back. Were not going back. Im really into people who display courage. You could have voted for Kamala Harris and noah needed to know about that. Tell me how it felt to be up there explaining, as a republican why you thought this was important to do. Why this is part of a new way forward for you, for many republicans and for pennsylvania. Sure. Thank you for having me. I just want to say, it was such an honor and so exciting to be there tonight with the Vice President. I dont think it takes courage. Its about our families Work Ethic that we are taught. We were raised in a Coal Mining Family. My brother and i, my son, we are all in some type of service industry, including my husband. Hes a public School Teacher. Our Work Ethic and integrity is something that she just exudes. She loves our country. She loves democracy. It was just wonderful to meet her and see her and talk about that. Im just thrilled to be there. A nurse married to a public School Teacher from a Coal Mining Family mining family. As a whole lot of courage. Carson, what you have been doing with Pennsylvania Republicans for harris as part of this larger republicans for harris group, you were in it early. Its becoming relatively popular. We are seeing more and more republicans, including some very conservative republicans, who are saying this is the way its got to go. Is there a Permission Structure there by being able to say, youre actually republicans. You are not forsaking your party, your beliefs or what you think is important. You are republicans were doing something else right now. Its about putting your country out of your party. Is about doing what you know is the right thing to do. In pennsylvania there are hundreds of thousands of republicans who dont want to vote for Donald Trump. That was evidence in the primary when 157,000 republicans voted for Nikki Haley even after she had left her campaign. You figure, that was 30 of the vote that came out in the primary. That means there are probably three times that number of republicans i dont want to vote for trump. So what she has to do, and she such a fabulous candidate, such a lovable person. But what she wants to do is delay the fears of those republicans that somehow, by voting for her they are going not going to make the country go to to the left. And i think the way for her to express that is to say, look, its so hard to run for office. Its so hard to be in office. Either you or the President Or Member of congress. Its not worth all of that just to be polarized and get nothing done. The biden administration got 1 Trillion Infrastructure Build on. Its got the chips billed on to lead so america can lead in microchips. They got some work done on guns. It was all done in the bipartisan. So she needs to say, look, i want to get some stuff done for this country and i know i have to reach across the aisle to do it. And thats what ill do. And we will find little ways to get things done, compromises to get things done. I think if enough republicans in pennsylvania and across the country here that they will feel comfortable that they can do what they know in their hearts they should do. Mary grace of pennsylvania had us watching last election ground. So we would all like to figure out how its going to go there. But, i think we all grew up in places where we understood that a present or member of congress like jim, they get elected by All Of Us. Even those of us that dont vote for them. And then they are there to represent All Of Us. Its remarkable because Vice President harris says this increasingly her campaign stops. But it should be obvious that the president should be the president for all people. The election is election. The day after the election that partisanship needs to be put aside in service of serving the country. I agree 100 . And the president should unite us, not divide us. In 2020, when i work the front lines and dealt with my mom with her Death And Covid i looked to the president for comfort. And find comfort at all. I couldnt believe he was dividing the country like he did was just not even encouraging a mask. So i worry about what the future might be if there is another crisis and what would happen would be scary to me. Jim, latest cbs poll, likely voters in pennsylvania. Its exactly the Way Pennsylvania often looks to us. Its a 5050 state. Its always a tight state. Its always a fight to the finish there. One of the things that made pennsylvania interesting, both in 2020 and in your state races, is the degree to which it was republicans who supported a number of democrats, as they did in arizona, as some did in michigan. These are republicans would like a party. They would actually like a party that works and functions. They would like to purge it of people who are dividers or Conspiracy Theorists and things like that. What is the End Goal for people like you . Would you like to be able to have good debates with democrats about differences in policy and may the best Person Win . Absolutely. Pennsylvania Elected Shapiro with bipartisan support. Yes. We need to get Donald Trump off of the stage once and for all. And have the republican party come back to its senses, stop hiding in the corner for fear and actually try to reach across the aisle to get things done. This is the only way to get things done. So we can finally get beyond the Trump Era and get some republicans who have some intelligence, some emotions that support a broad range of ideas then we can start all over again. We need to. We need two parties. Its absolutely imperative that we have the two parties to balance off and compromise to find middle ground. And told everybody to account. The whole point of more than one party is told everybody to account. Mary grace, Liz Cheney got her dad to see that hes voting for Kamala Harris, which is something that a whole bunch of us didnt expect to happen. Tell me how this works with you and other republicans. Are you invited to speak to the republicans . Have you engaged with a lot of republicans . And what do you say to them . Im so proud of Liz Cheney and her dad. I couldnt be more proud to be from the Old School republican party because its no longer the old gop like the Gerald Ford or the bush gop. You know, i do speak to some republicans. Their voices do need to be heard. They just picked the wrong spokesman and i can go back and i can choose him as my spokesperson to represent my needs and our democracy. Our things to all of you. I am feeling very good about pennsylvania because there are a lot of people in pennsylvania who deserve to be seen and heard. Thats why im here in johnstown. And i will be continuing to travel around the state to make sure that im listening as much as we are talking. Ultimately, i feel very strongly that weve got to earn every vote. That means spending time with folks in the communitys where they live. So thats why im here. We are going to be spending a lot more time in pennsylvania. But like last time around, there is an energy in pennsylvania and clearly the Vice President and her team are spending a lot of time in that state because it may be where the decision is made. Its good to be back. Thank you. It is very important for Kamala Harris spends every bit of time she has in pennsylvania because we are a purple state. We are state that sometimes is red and other times blue. We have seen that in elections prior to 2020 and when you think about 2016, how much excitement, how much optimism was around that race and how we lost by 40,000 votes. We did not need the entire state, obviously the entire electorate to vote for Hillary Clinton but this go around, in 2024, with everything on the line, and with Kamala Harris resenting a new way forward, not just for p. A. But for the entire nation, we are not going to take anything for granted. Particularly areas where we saw the former president was victorious. We are talking the cambria county, luzern county. Places that were always blue for generations. We are coming back. Even if they change Registration Internet republicans, we want to be able to earn their vote and tell them why they need to join the new way forward and elect Kamala Harris. Lets talk about that. Theres an impression about pennsylvania. Its got a few major centers, urban centers that tend to be a little more liberal and then its got a lot of red rural. Thats a misconception all over this country. Right . That middle section is hard working. It has, in some cases, seen some real hard times with factories that have disappeared and industries that have disappeared. But theres no particular Reason Anyone there should be either Republican Or Democrat. And they have been all of the above overtime. Thats correct. Pennsylvania got 67 counties. Most people dont know that our state is not just philadelphia, where i live, and pittsburgh. Its so much more than that. 48 of our counties are in Rural Pennsylvania and there are lots of generations of hardworking families. We just heard from the nurse the talked about the Coal Mining Family. We know so many others that are still farming in this day and age. And we understand that No One should be forgotten, no Ones Vote should be taken for granted. Oh, youre just going to vote this way or that way. I am so proud here tonight in West Philly to know that Kamala Harris is in these areas. Shes on the ground. Shes not sending surrogates. She is there. Just a couple of days Governor Walz was in lancaster in different parts of the county that are also rural ella sitting down, meeting with volunteers. We are working very hard so that come november we can win. One of the things we were talking to Jim Greenwood about is in the last election there were a lot of republicans who came out in support of democrats because they are disappointed by the way the republican party has, on a very unofficial vases, and in some way with the can is, theyre still feeling are behaving. They want their party back. Thats actually working in favor of Kamala Harris right now. Its interesting. When you think about our former president and all that he stands for or nothing that he stands for, you determine what you want to choose. Hes a big bully. He has injected not only hatred , not only cynicism, not only division. I remember him talking about a muslim ban as soon as he was elected. I remember in 2016 how he was having some the homophobic remarks all the time. He has also shown us that he doesnt believe in democracy. He literally tried to throw my vote out just four years ago. He said, however joanna voted, it doesnt matter. He tried to steal the election. And on that Debate Stage this week, right here in philly, he would not back down from it. He would not admit that he lost. So we cannot take anything for granted and we absolutely must elect Kamala Harris come november. People have now been forced to encounter the made up thing and consider it. Its inescapable. You have been provoked into imagining it. The Fact Check is insufficient because the words strung together put the image in your brain. Whether you believe it or not. And some out there actually believe it and will act on it. Some republicans are upset because trump doing racism out loud is highly inconvenient in an election year. In fact, ohios republican governor went on Cbs News to say, its just not true. In a pretty mealymouthed way. But he was there to testify to the falseness of it. The governor of ohio, the location for this particularly dreadful thing, should know its not true. Came up because Donald Trump brought it up on national television at a debate and 67 Million people watched him do it. This ohio City Hall was not evacuated because of the internet. These ohio children were not sent home in fear from their schools today, denied the right to an education, because of the internet. It was because of Donald Trump. Donald trump is pushing a racist, dangerous lie because he knows some people will believe it. The republican governor of ohio made headlines early this year for saying that he would not endorse Donald Trump and he would not campaign for Donald Trump. When he was interviewed, in this interview to dispel trumps racist lie about things going on in his state, he made several substantive points. Including speaking up for the character and Work Ethic of people who have recently arrived in his state. That they are hard workers. His words, they want to provide for their families. His words. And seek a better life. The governor talked about wanting to do better at local, state and federal levels to respond to their specific needs. These new people to america. And yet, the governor of ohio protected Donald Trump by blaming the internet instead of actually blaming Donald Trump. Of course hes voting for the republican nominee, it was Donald Trump. No republicans calling for trump to drop out of the president ial race over the racist, dangerous, made apply, as he predicted, Donald Trump could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and not lose any voters. Because he didnt lose the republican governor of ohio with this one. Is certainly support President Trump. Of course i do. What will it take . Wheres the bottom . Is there a bottom . No republican who supports Donald Trump should be able to claim distance from what Donald Trump supports. Openly and repeatedly as he does in that debate. We dont need to chase Donald Trumps made up thing. We can chase the respectable republicans who say they will vote for him and demanded to know if that is still true. It is worth remembering the recent history of some of the unstable people who are activated by antiimmigration rhetoric. The Mass Shooter who killed 10 people in a buffalo supermarket, the Mets Shooter who killed 11 people in the pittsburgh synagogue. The Mass Shooter who killed 23 people in el paso, walmart. Only one swing state, wisconsin , has a majority of voters say they are very confident about the accuracy of their states voting process. The constant repetition of republican Conspiracy Theories and a political theater of unnecessary and unjustified recounts by folks like the Cyber Ninjas has succeeded in sowing doubt in the minds of voters. The 2020 election was in fact, empirically, most secure and safest election in modern history. Heres the other problem. There are only nine legislative days left on the calendar before a federal government shutdown. Republicans are willing to shut down federal services and destabilize the country in pursuit of a xenophobic and racist agenda. Also, Donald Trump doesnt have to face the fact that hes a loser. Out firstly say, with respect to the former, as you said, its already illegal under federal law. It is a crime for noncitizens to vote in federal elections. And for all the reasons that you have stated, and for reasons that leader jeffrey so eloquently articulated. We know that House Republicans are engaged in a political charade. It is unfortunately dangerous game in which they have taken Government Funding Hostage to pursue an extreme and extremely partisan continued resolution that ultimately would harm not just of course our nations veterans and veteran healthcare, a wide variety of critically important programs. But as you said, also seeks to implement Trumps Project 2025 inspired idea with respect to this particular provision that you have described. I think that the american people are tired of it. Which is ultimately, at his behest, republicans killed a bipartisan Voter Security Deal that would have addressed many of the challenges on our southern border. Of course, as you said, House Republicans have now made threatening Government Shutdowns a mainstay of their approach to government, unfortunately. It has dangerous consequences for the american people. As i said, the american people are tired of it. Its one of the reasons why the message that Vice President harris has been articulated, in my view, is resonating so deeply with the american people. Its time for House Republicans to get serious and they got to work with us to get a continued resolution funded. I dont mean to debase this conversation by bringing up this other nonsense that we were talking about earlier. Youre the child of immigrants. As you know, im an immigrant to this country.
