No one in that group and thats a large group of republicans believe that Dick Cheney would be supporting a socialist. I think this is a huge Game Changer today for Kamala Harris. Pablo, we heard this week, i dont even want to say economic proposals from both candidates, because we didnt, but Kamala Harris came out with a proposal for small businesses, making it easier to launch a small business. Less relation, a huge positive, a tax break. Donald trump gave a big presentation on economic policy at the New York economic club and there was no presentation. He was incoherent and he didnt actually offer anything. Had he said i dont think the federal government should be involved in childcare, that would be an answer we could debate. He didnt even do that, yet he still has a whole lot of support from some people in the business community. Whats your take on this . Is not a serious person and its disheartening that it may be takes Dick Cheney to remind us that if you care About an institution as a concept, whether an economic one or the country itself, you want someone who knows what they are doing and even a vague sense so the Business Part of this, steph, as we talked About for months now, people are of course motivated by Self Interest and in this case they still see trump as somebody who is a mobile, who is corruptible in the most literal sense, and thats the advantage that he offers. Now to me, the thing with what business, as your incentive suggests, is that youre playing some kind of game that other people can benefit from, and he just doesnt have your ability. He does not have the ability to articulate that, and shes an aging athlete. I come from sports. Ive seen it happen. Donald trump doesnt have it anymore, and hes rambling, and people are looking at him like is this entertaining. Will kind of but its not substance. Athlete is a tough one to swallow, with the exception of golf. I think this has turned into a little bit of a Policy Discussion around the election, rather than any discussion About Donald Trump dropping bombs, saying things we never heard for. Hey, lets spend a moment on that because they suddenly realized The Press was a vital part of our democracy. Havent provided any details. She provided some details. All of a sudden now its kind of ricocheted back on the republicans that from has to provide details, so we are debating some things out there About policies that we werent debating before because we were so involved, either in the Horse Race or something like that. I think this is not a bad place to be, so i can take Donald Trumps tariff proposal, and i can put it into the machine, and i come up with the fact that hes proposing essentially one of the most regressive tax Cuts Tax hikes, right . Im going to have you say this again because it is not a Tax Cut. Walk us through, when you put the tariff you put the tariffs 10 overall, take out the part thats for china, which is 60 tariffs. It would be the biggest Tax Hike in history, the most regressive. He kept saying that these are not taxes, but they are taxes. It just raises the price of the goods. Its not necessarily inflationary in the initial aspects, but what happens is you get this spiral because i put a tariff on your good. You put a tariff on my good and then were off to the races. Remember what happened when trump was president and the terrace with china, and what did that end up doing . Crossing our farmers and we ended up having to give them a huge amount of money and aid. Ill take a second here to express my disappointment with the biden administration for continuing those tariffs. Im on the other side of that for both camps. Trump is in another league with what hes talking About. Kamala harris has been under a huge amount of pressure to provide details, as steve was just saying. We want to see your policies. We want to see your details. Shes had less than two months to do it. With the exception of tariffs, Donald Trump has been running for over two years and we dont have details on anything. Why does that double standard sit . You know i think thats an excellent question, stephanie. The one thing that ive been hearing from voters is this Frustration And Exhaustion with the back and forth, but i will say they are asking and have been really calling on harris to be explicit in some of her speeches. You hear protesters and shes addressing them in different ways depending on the events of that day. But i really think what they are asking her to do is tell them whats going to be different between her time in office and a biden presidency. So those are some of the answers that i think young voters especially, that we are hearing from, stay tuned, are asking and waiting to hear. Rev, here is the thing. People are complaining, say why dont we know her policy. Shes been in office for 3 1 2 years but shes been the vp. And thats whats stunning to see highly educated people in Finance Rushing right past that and going, so progressive. I think at issue for young people is theyre not feeling any of this policy, right . They watch these speeches. They hear these wonderful words but they are still struggling to pay rent, deciding whether they are going to make a payment on their Student Loan or get their favorite brand of cereal at the grocery store. So i think its been really complicated what ive been hearing in my reporting, with stay tuned, is basically until the changes are felt it doesnt really feel like much is going to change. Our poll, reverend, shows that when we look at the undecided voters, they really dislike Donald Trump. They dislike Donald Trump more than the average voter does, which tells me that the half where you said Kamala Harris has to prove if shes serious enough to run the country, thats the thing i think she needs to concentrate on. I dont think people need additional reasons to dislike Donald Trump. I think they know what he is, and if they dislike him, they dislike him already. I do think people have struggled with inflation. I think theyve struggled with what happened with higher prices, but employment is doing well. Wage growth has been relatively positive. That is a vision of the country. Its an explanation of the country that doesnt comport with most Peoples View of the world but if she can give a positive vision, i think that would be something that might be one of the issues on inflation, steve, even though Wage Growth is outpacing inflation and has for quite some time, even if i have more money in my pocket, when i walk into the deli and the Sandwich Costs 15, i still walk out mad. So the data is on the side of positivity but the vibe is the problem and thats difficult. You end up talking About that for the first 15 minutes you are sitting there. Donald trump talks About lowering inflation. I dont see anyway hes actually lowering the Price Level. Is not what Economist Or Anybody is trying to do right now. You promise whatever because you got held to account. Let me give America A Very Short Economics lesson. We love that. If you lower the Price Level that people pay you also lower income levels. The reason why we avoid, as a nation, the concept of deflation is because everything deflates on both sides of the ledger.
