You have both written on so many topics, tom you have written extensively on the rise of authoritarianism. One of the reasons why it has been difficult to watch people, to see people the republican Party Coopt symbols like the flag is because they have started to become associative with former president Donald Trumps constant authoritarianism. At some point this is starting to resonate with people that our america is not his america and his vision of america is extremely narrow and not something the rest of us are prepared to give up. If you look at the history of authoritarian regimes, mussolinis italy, Hitlers Germany and a whole bunch of smaller ones. One of the first things they do is wrap themselves in the flag, they project hyper nationalisms, we are the only patriots. At first people i like oh yeah, patriotism we are well conditioned for that. We respond to the flag and the pledge of allegiance and all of this sort of thing any kind of pavlovian response. Throughout our childhoods we were brought up with this. And it reaches a point where intensity comes so great and the absurdity of their projection i think we saw this with the Arlington Cemetery event this last week. The absurdity become so unmistakable people just get turned off and horrified by it and i think we are at that Turning Point. I think it is very significant. Another Turning Point i am interested in the degree in which former president Donald Trump, he is always marxist and socialist calling Kamala Harris a radical, culture communist. He says in one of those clips that she is post socialist. What tim walz has done in minnesota is kind of amazing, he has done the things that canadians like me think that work and people in developed countries work in terms of equalizing certain things and he is made minnesota attracted to business. It is working, theres something radical or socialist or communist about Child Tax Credits, about universal healthcare if that is the kind of thing we can do. These are mainstream in most other countries. Equality is good for business we have seen it time and time again. Racism has been bad for business. As former president Donald Trump throws out these terms, socialism, fascism, radicalism of Kamala Harris he is Dog Whistling about her racial and ethnic background and also many of his believers do not actually even understand what those terms mean. When he thinks about that, these are people who use goods and services we pay into the used police, fire and public schools. The idea that some people could get a part of the pie that have traditionally been excluded from it All Of A Sudden former president Donald Trumps supporters believe then that means i must not be getting anything. That is not how democracy works. Instead of explaining that to people he drills down on their baseless emotions to say we must continue to exclude others so we can maintain our status as the true and Real Americans which is patently false. I hope we are at a Turning Point. I hope there are so many americans exhausted this exclusionary politics of former president Donald Trump. We have seen the data has not born that in past elections especially not with white voters but i hope there is a segment of the population that is truly tired of this divisive this and wants to have goods and services equitable across the country for so many different types of americans. In order for that to be the case, in order for more americans to see the Contrasting Come to a conclusion about it and realize it is not a conversation about the front policies it is ackley actually conversation about democracy or the absence thereof.
