In both in both georgia and nevada. Trump, meanwhile, leads by a single point in the bout appeared all of those results are within the margin of error, but the trendlines favor harris. It previous fox polls, conducted by president Joe Biden exited the 2024 race about six weeks ago, trump led by five points, in arizona, nevada, North Carolina and by six points in georgia, and we can hold the graph above the screen there for one more. And yes, the race is close, but when President Biden dropped out it reshaped the race. Not only does harris have omentum, but suddenly her path to 270 Electoral College Votes have really opened up. Well, and then you also looked at the down Ballot Races, and i was just, frankly shocked, by the Arizona Senate within this poll and how Ruben Gallego is just running away beyond the margin of error, with the Arizona Senate race, and yes, it is kerry lake she is up against, she is a drag on the Ticket Up in arizona. It is like 15 points. It is a big lead in a place where it wasnt supposed to be that huge. So, she definitely has momentum. Will she be able to maintain enthusiasm, excitement going into september . Postdebate . That is what remains to be seen. How the next two months will play out, and whether it is a honeymoon or if it is for real. At harriswalz will have their first Sitdown Interview later tonight. Sam stein, lets get you in on these poles here. It is significant. Polls are a snapshot, we know that. But this shows where the races at this moment, and the wind is at harriss back. What you think about the State Of Play in those sunbelt states . States that, just a few weeks ago, Donald Trump had thought he put away. Remember, the sidelines at tHe Republican national convention, i know you were there in milwaukee, trump aids telling reporters, we dont even have to advertise her campaign in North Carolina. That state is in the back. Now, his lead is one point. Well, i will never get over that stick you made about me getting through security, for my entire life, frankly. Pass it on to your kids. They will remember it too, they are watching, im sure. I think to your point, look, we all know that the race has been reset. But the way in which it is reset, i think, matters, and by that i mean, when you have three states that are critical to your election, in there is The Field for trump, it allows him to Focus On those Battleground States in michigan, wisconsin, and pennsylvania. If you have seven states now in contention, it becomes a resource battle, much more so, and in this case, it is not just that harris has the momentum it is that she is raising tons more money. When you are raising half 1 Billion in a month, right . You can then afford to do Add Blitzes and on the ground operations, and in more of these states you can do turn around and persuasion and more of the states. And now you are stretching trumps resources further. So, yes, theres more maps. But in addition to sorry, more pathway to 270. But in addition to the pathway to 270, you benefit from the fact that you have a lot more money and can afford to play in all of those states. And trump now has to be on the defensive. Not only do they not want to spend in arizona, they dont want to spend in North Carolina, and they are going to have to do that now. It doesnt mean harris is going to win those states, but it does make it more likely for her to pick up enough states to get to 270. And then harris, meantime in georgia on a Bus Tour and then rally right now. So, heres how Fox News chief political anchor, bret baier, reacted to his own networks pulling yesterday. With the clips indeed. Georgia remains. It was the closest contest in 2020, decided by less than a quarter of a Percentage Point in favor of President Biden our recent pulling showed the whitest gap, six points for former President Trump over President Biden, but now that has closed. Harris has a two Point Lead in our latest poll, it is expected to be a close race, obviously within the margin of error, but both candidates are spending a lot of time in georgia, and if that lead holds, she wins georgia, she wins the presidency. Of the United States. The importance of Georgia On Display right now. The trumpvance campaign, as you might imagine, quickly issued a memo, calling the polling atrocious. Saying, we report you decide foxs pulling has a terrible track record. And Vice President Harris and governor Tim Walz are on the Bus Tour of the southern, typically redder counties in that state. The democratic ticket was greeted yesterday on an Airport Tarmac by students from Savannah State university, georgias oldest hpc you. It also kicked off with a series of stops, focused on education. Harrison walz then traveled south through georgia where they focused on members of the faculty of the student marching band. You kind of embody this idea and the Vice President talks a lot about it. Each of our individual talents, what we could contribute, something bigger than ourselves when you get together. Your single instrument alone, it is an amazing thing, but as part of this bandit becomes really amazing. I am just grateful, i am grateful to be part of a team with a really great Head Coach here, and your next president of the United States, Kamala Harris. Sometimes you hit the note, sometimes you dont, right . But all of that practice . Makes for beautiful music, and that is a metaphor, that is symbolic for everything that you all do in your lives. Which is, you are going to show what a winning Team Looks like it you are going to show what it means to put yourself out on The Field, to put yourself in front of people, to have the confidence to do it. Sometimes you are going to hit the step right, sometimes you are not. Sometimes you are going to win the game, sometimes you may not. But you know, you never let any circumstance knock you down, or slow you down. You just keep going at it. Harris aids have long said she loves a Bus Tour, and the Vice President will continue her tour of georgia today, while walz will head onto Campaign Events in North Carolina. Harris will end the tour with a rally in savannah later on today and the importance of Georgia On Display by trump off the efforts to patch up republican governor, brian kemp. Joining us now, editor at large at the 19th, aaron haynes, she is also an Msnbc Political Contributor and an expert on all things georgia. So, aaron, tell us about the State Of Play there and what we are seeing from this push, by harris and her Running Mate to move into sort of these red counties, it is not about winning those counties right . It is about closing the margin of defeat, but closing the gap, so, therefore you can win at in atlanta in the suburbs of atlanta, and she is speaking to voters, white and black who dont always think about voting for democrats. Right, and who also dont always get to see a democrat, especially in that part of the state. Lesson, there are 159 counties in Georgia And Atlanta is only in one of them, typically, democrats do tend to focus in and around atlanta and the surrounding counties and republicans are The Ones that tend to go to tHe Rest of the state. Republicans avoid atlanta, democrats kind of avoid tHe Rest of the state, but harris is showing that she is willing to work for those votes, not necessarily to win those red counties, but certainly to kind of eat away at the margin. That is the kind of map that Stacey Abrams and other grassroots, like black Voters Matter and others really works to build the coalition that elected senator rafael warnock, and Senator John Allsop in 2020 and obviously president , Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, Turning Georgia Blue in that year, something that Vice President Harris is obviously hoping to repeat. Listen, you have people in that part of the state that are concerned about affordability, about opportunity, and so, to hear, you know, Coach Walz and Vice President Harris really down there, trying to rally them, bringing some of that joy , also in the form of encouragement to an area that they know a lot of people are still struggling much kind of trying to strike that balance i think, with something really important in a part of the country that shows kind of where they are, coming out of this convention, focusing on the middle class and focusing on opportunity for folks, like the people in the Savannah Area these two days. Erin, it is allie vitelli, im glad you started with us, because we started with a friend of yours, talking about the messaging around freedom to try to appeal to some moderate white women that might not typically vote democrat. Can you talk about the impact of that kind of a message around freedom . Around protecting democracy, Rent Reproductive Healthcare that could transcend racial lines among with Women Voters that are going to be so crucial in this election, not just in georgia, but Battleground States across the country . Such a great point and i thank you for highlighting jens story, because white women are the largest Voting Bloc in the country, i think a lot of people dont necessarily realize that, and so, a message that appeals to them, particularly really in a year that we knew abortion was going to be on the map ballot, harris has been the democrats strongest surrogate on the issue of abortion, Tying It To Freedom And Rights and really, just this question of what makes a healthy democracy. That is something that could resonate with a lot of these conservative, suburban white women, who live in counties that are outside of atlanta, and so, that could be part of the winning formula that puts georgia in play. Another thing that i would also note, republican governor, brian kemp, is somebody who was very popular with conservative suburban white women. And so i think that probably also has a lot to do with why former President Trump decided that he wanted to make up with Governor Kemp at this time, because the way that he has been speaking about Governor Kemp is something that definitely rubbed a lot of those conservative georgia women the wrong way. Kemp and his wife even. And we will see if trump can maintain that thats right. And we will see if trump can maintain this facade of a truce there with the governor with which you he has been so angry for so long. And we want to get your most recent piece in the 19th. It has this title. Nothing about this year is normal, it could give harris a chance at history. And you right, in part, this. In many ways, the story of harriss unlikely journey is one not just of 107 days, but of the last four Years Command about how far the candidate of the country have come. Much of that evolution happened behind the scenes, with the media pay less attention to a role that has been traditionally unimportant. But with a new opportunity to introduce herself, after a national reckoning on race, with women continuing to break barriers across society, could voters choose harris to break what clinton calls, the highest, hardest Glass Ceiling . Harris is making the case for why she is ready to be president. Soon, the country will decide whether they believe she is ready. So, aaron, tell us a little bit more about this, because it has been so striking that, at least at this point in the campaign, harris and her team are not dwelling on the potential history that could be made here. They are not spending a lot of time on her race or gender. Of course, it is there, it is obvious, but it is not the forefront of the messaging, like it was in 2016, for Hillary Clinton. But the opportunity is there, all the same, talk about how you see it resonating. Yeah, i think you are making a very good point, jonathan could i was in chicago at the Democratic National Convention last week, and i think we did see that, this is her potential to make history is not something that was really explicit. It was really kind of were implicit, something that the Vice President herself is not, really, you know pointing out or highlighting specifically some of her surrogates and others who spoke at the convention certainly kind of did that for her. But yes, tHe Reality is we are in a very different place than we were just over a month ago and this president ial race and we could be in a very different place as a nation than we have been in more than 230 years. And as i said in my column, even just the way that this came together, we were really looking at a moment that kind of had to happen this way. Shirley schism, the first woman to run for president in 1972 predicted that the path of the presidency for a woman could be through the vice presidency. So, harris has been the understudy in that role for nearly 4 years, one of the factors that contributed to this. The way that President Biden exited the race and endorsed her really set this up to the shore up the delegates and clear The Field he doesnt have this traditional primary process that produces a nominee over 18 months. Look, we have a political climate that is very different, and this accelerated calendar that gives you this immediate sense of Urgency And Sense of drama weeks ahead of schedule. You have voters that are really interested and excited about this race, curious about harris, curious about her candidacy, which is one of tHe Reasons why this interview could be impactful tonight. People wanting to know more about her command people who may be excited about voting for her, who were not excited but either choice for president just a few weeks ago. So, there are some advantages and disadvantages to that timeline, including Hillary Clinton really said that this could be a difference in november, and how harris could be a woman that makes history. Theres a growing belief that the accelerated timetable. And we should note early voting begins in a few states in just a couple of weeks. Ballots are going to be cast before we know it. Editor at large at the 19th of Msnbc Political Contributor, errin haines, errin, trent take you for joining us. It is an important piece. We have lots more to get to this hour. Oo this is a good book title. Welcome welcome back to Morning Joe Weekend. Pick up on the conversation we were just having before the break. We are learning new details this morning about the alleged altercation at Arlington National Cemetery this week that involved Donald Trump off the campaign. At first trumps to disputed aspect of initial reporting by npr. They broke the story, but Arlington National Cemetery later put out a statement confirming that there had been an incident and that a report was filed with military police. The former president had been invited to the cemetery by the family of a marine killed three years ago during the bombing at Abbey Gate Outside of Cabell Airport in afghanistan. That family granted Trump Pocketing permission to film and take photographs at the marines gravesite. Three u. S. Military officials tell the New York Times that some members of the Trump Campaign confronted and eventually pushed past a cemetery official, when she tried to stop them from taking those in section 60, where Campaign Photography is strictly prohibited. Military officials told the times that the cemetery worker. That pursuing the matter with authorities could subject her to retaliation from trumps supporters. So, at least Donald Trump was invited to go to the second cemetery. But there is a difference there, between the familys wishes and then using that for campaign propaganda. We have seen the video, they put it out on tiktok, they put it out on Social Media, Donald Trump at the graveside, we see him here giving a thumbs up, this is something that has sparked a lot of anger from military families, from veterans groups, from goldstar families, who say that Arlington National Cemetery, arguably, the most sacred place in our nation, was used as a campaign prompter. And they are sing that because they were there. They were certainly during a campaign, what was a sacred moment it was the anniversary of a horrific attack that took 13 members of the u. S. Military, mostly marines and so, yes, some of those families had wanted them to come, but it matters and how it is actually presented, and what the End Result is. And it cant look like a Campaign Event, and the optics ended up being something that is based could seize on as saying Donald Trump was standing with the fallen, and the other side could say look at the crassness, look at what happened here. You know, what really is the story. I still want to hear more about the followed as to what actually happened, because there are just so many disputed accounts over what was the incident that hand. Of the Trump Team is cnbc highlight that explosion in afghanistan as a real failure of the biden administration, but we shouldnt lose sight of the fact of lets think about how Donald Trump thinks about veterans and military, calling them suckers and losers, the littering their service members, chief of staff and even just recently dumpling the medal of honor, suggesting that well, maybe you dont you dont want to win that one, because you end up injured or dead. And this was his afghanistan policy. He said the groundwork for the drawdown and the withdrawal, and maybe he would have handled it differently, who knows, but he set this in order the wheels were turning, his team was negotiating the terms, and so, Donald Trump does own this afghanistan policy too. Although, biden was at the time The One the figurehead of the incompetence at the moment, and the horror of that scene at kabul airport. Biden certainly wanted the afghanistan withdrawal, but you are right, it is trump who started the process in motion. Meanwhile, republican Vice President ial nominee, jd vance, escalated his attacks against Vice President Harris yesterday to a new level. Blasting the democratic president ial nominee over that u. S. Troop withdrawal from understand three years ago. To have those 13 americans lose their lives and not Fire Icicle Person is disgraceful. Kamala harris is disgraceful. We are going to talk about a story out of those 13 rated innocent americans lost their lives. It is that Kamala Harris is so Asleep At The Wheel that you want to do an investigation into what happened, and she wants to yell at Donald Trump, because he showed up . She can she can go to hell. Vance made those remarks during a Campaign Stop at erie, pennsylvania, while defending his team, from accusations of improper behavior at Arlington National Cemetery. Later, vance spoke to reporters during a stop in wisconsin and double down on his initial comments. Look, sometimes i get frustrated and sometimes i get past off when i think of Kamala Harriss failure of a leadership it is something i get frustrated and angry about. So, sam, that is jade events seemingly trying to explain or sort of soften his remarks, because we are at a moment now where he just told the Vice President of the United States to go to hell. That is the rhetoric that tHe Republican ticket is now engaging in. Yeah, and i think, look, theres legitimate criticisms to make about how the afghanistan withdrawal was handled. Obviously it was a low point for the Biden And Harris administration, i think it facilitated the pulling drop, from which biden himself never recovered, which goes to show you how the public felt about the whole matter. So, yeah, it is fair criticism, but this type of criticism and the politicization of the Arlington National Cemetery really does kind of trip up the Trump Administration from making that criticism. Of course, the idea that you what kind of politically trying to profit off of this moment, by bringing a Camera Crew and filming in the sacred ground, but i think theres a larger context here too, which is that, there should be or should feel like there are places that are immune or exempt from politics right . But politics has seeped into every facet of our lives, churches, schools, everything, but now, when you see the Arlington National Cemetery in Section X to become a Staging Ground for partisan bickering, because of Donald Trump, not because of anyone else it goes to the larger piece that i think harris is getting at, which is that we just want to move on from this. We dont want to spend time wondering if it is correct protocol to bring cameras for political profiteering into Arlington National Cemetery. We dont want to think about whether those are used as props and lyrical campaigns, but they have done this and of course in true trump fashion, when confronted with it, they not only say Kamala Harris can go to hell, but you see the Trump Campaign spokesperson say trump was working at the cemetery the Court Suffering from mental issues, why, what is the point of doing that . It just seems, kind of grotesque rejoinder to this whole thing where you could just a look, it was a misunderstanding, which is what normal people would say. So, i think the larger story that matters as much as the specifics of what vance is saying and what happened at arlington. Coming up, Former Trump national Security Advisor, h. R. Mcmaster is outcome with a sobering assessment of his time serving in the trump White House. Offering a staunch condemnation of his former boss. In his new book, which bears the title, at war with ourselves, my tour of duty in the trump White House, mcmaster depicts the current republican president ial nominee as an insecure personality, whose need for Flattery And Approval made him an easy target of war and adversaries bent on weakening the United States. Mcmaster served as trumps national Security Advisor for 13 months, until he was fired in 2018. And Retired Army lieutenant general, a Charming Esther joins us now. Thank you for being here, sir, congrats on the book, the Trump Campaign pushed back on this and said the book should be assigned to the Bargain Bin of fiction suggesting that nothing in it there, is worth paying attention to, but talk to us about, what we can find in this book, you your daytoday experiences in his White House . Sure, will i think it is a missed opportunity for the Trump Campaign, you know, because theres a lot positive about President Trump in here, especially about his disruptive nature, and my observation is, having been on the Receiving End of a lot of policies and strategies developed in washington that he knows and to me overseas when i was serving in trouble and in baghdad, and, you know, and trump disrupted a lot of what needed to be disruptive, but the story of the book is also about how he is so disruptive that he disrupted, and he becomes the antagonist in his own story. So, this is not, you know, a warning about President Trump, this is informing readers about, you know, the president s character and personality, how that interact with tHe Real challenges that we have faced, all of which are light issues today, you know, from the competition with china and russia, irans Aggression And Use of use of this access of aggressors in the Middle East and the threat from north korea, you could go on, venezuela, all of the issues we are confronting today, we confronted in the first year of that Trump Administration and this is mainly a story about how i was trying to help a disruptive president disrupt what needed to be disrupted. So, one of the things in the book is how trump public Inexperience And Hubris and Subset Susceptibility of e in your estimation really weekend u. S. National no security on the World Stage and no more so with vladimir putin, president of russia. As you saw it up close, what you think that was . Can you explain the nature of that relationship . This is something i really try hard to explain in this book, i say one day i come home and i cant really figure this out, but heres how i see it, i see that, in some ways, theres a lot of continuity between george w. Bush and his initial Approach And Barack obama and his initial approach to putin. Both of them were very helpful that hey, i am The One, i am The One who can establish a better relationship, i can convince him that, hey, his future is with the west, it is with europe, and maybe ameliorate his behavior and so forth, trump was under that same delusion, you know, he thought, because he has great confidence in his own ability to you, you know, make a big deal with somebody, and what i told the story of the book about is that, you know, i would tell him, hey, this is the best lawyer in the World Right . He has aspirations, he has objectives in line to go far beyond anything in relation to us, and so, we cant try to placate putin, the only thing that Putin Respect his strength, you know, and so, one of the Chapter Titles here is weakness is provocative, and one of the stories of that chapter is my interaction with President Trump, showing him on a big chart that i put in front of him in the Back Room of the oval office, and the little Dining Room there, and on the bottom of it were world events, u. S. Actions that portrayed a sense of weakness or a resolution, and on the top of it, just following that was an act of russian aggression, whether it was denial of service Cyber Attacks against estonia in 2007 or the invasion of georgia in 2008 or, you know, the first invasion of ukraine in 2014, and the point i was making is, mr. President, you know, dont trade off something for putin to hope that you will have a better relationship. Act with strength, and that is when he authorized the Sale And Provision of Javelin Weapon systems to ukrainians. So, a lot of the book is, what was it like . What was it like to serve in the trump White House, and it was really our Teams Effort to help a disruptive president disrupt what needed to be disrupted. You know, it is a pretty stark assessment of some of his Foreign Policy decisions, and from your time in the White House, but lets also think about what has happened since then. You mentioned aid to ukraine, he is impeached over aid to ukraine, because he held it back, you have seen his comments about kim jongun, his continued flattery of vladimir putin, you saw January 6th. So, putting this altogether, it is not just that Donald Trump was president , hes trying to be president again. Yeah. You really think that trumps national Security Interest would be served by another Donald Trump term . Welcome i think that is for every voter to decide. Well, jonathan, what im saying is, how do you strength the Balance Right . Between somebody who does disrupt, you know, some of the policies in washington, and i think a lot of people would agree that theres a lot of washington that needs to be disrupted, but also be cognizant of the inconsistency of the president. You mentioned a number of examples. One of the other examples of the book is how i think President Trump put into place for the First Time a really recent and sustainable approach to afghanistan, but then abandoned that right . And entered into negotiations with the taliban, without the you know, without the afghan government present, He Re created, i think a lot of the same problems that of the obama administration, the approach to afghanistan. So, i think, jonathan, that is for you and richard and every individual voter, to say, based on what you learned in this book, you make your own decision. Im not here, as a Washed Up general, to tell people how to vote. Will let me talk about one individual voter, you. You said you wouldnt serve in a trump term, will you vote for them . I will not answer that question, john, i took the oath of service at age 17 on the plane at west point. And i have followed george marshalls example, he has been what my heroes i have read Child Use biographies of him and everything. And you know, i think it is really important to have a bold line, between the military, even retired military, and partisan politics. Not politics in terms of political competitions and diplomacy and national security affairs, but, you know, i just dont want i dont think any american needs to have an old general tell them how to vote, so my editor actually, who is a great guy, he said this book needs to be a warning and im like, no, i want this book to inform, not to warn. That is the purpose of the book. Hr, can you tell us about a time when the president when President Trump felt really strongly about an issue . You said mr. President, here is why i dont think you got it quite right. And he said good point, i will change my mind . You have examples where he is open to doing that . Yeah, there are many examples of the book of exactly that. So, i think and sometimes People Talk kind of the wrong approach with Donald Trump right . I think there are three types of people, richard, you can confirm or deny this right . In any administration, there are people who are there to serve the elected president , to recognize, hey, this is the president to got elected, and what my duty is to get that president the best analysis, give that president multiple options and let him or her decide, you know, what course of action is. Theres a second group of people, they are not there to give the president multiple options, they are there to manipulate decisions based on their own agenda, right . Theres a third group of people who think it is their job to protect the country and maybe the world, from the president could a problem with the second and third group says, hey, nobody elected them. And if our Countrys Sovereignty lies with the people, they are actually the constitution because they are unaccounted officials. So i sought is my job to be and this is one of the Chapter Titles in here, the guardian of Trumps Independence of junction. And i think we were effective, parkway time. I got used up, only lasted 30 months there, you know, but it was effective to give him multiple options, and to start with, hey, mr. President, i think this is your preferred course of action, but if these are our goals and objectives, and you always would have a discussion first, a, what is it we are trying to achieve . Maybe we should consider something else. And he would evolve his thinking overtime. We will have much more, with general mcmaster after the break. Dont go anywhere. Ere. Welcome welcome back to Morning Joe Weekend. Lets pick back up on the conversation we were just having before the break. You are an unbelievably distant wish military background. To drop conversations about him with the american military on u. S. Soil . Did you ever sit down with and talk with him about Insurrection Act and the cost of potentially using the u. S. Military at home . You know, i didnt, i was gone by that time, richard, by the time of all of the, you know, george floyds murder, the violent aftermath of that, all of that, so, i did make a few Phone Calls, you know . And i think at times, like everything else, right . The title at war with ourselves, because we are at war with ourselves, hey, that is not only bad for her Psyche Right . It is better for governance and it is for our confidence and our people, and confidence as you are talking in our earlier site and, in our democratic and the tuitions and processes. So, i think what i hope the book does is help us realize hey, we all have a stake in arresting the centripetal forces that are just tearing us apart from each other. I tell a lot of stories in here about how trump, you know, says things that are inflammatory, says things that are disrespectful, offensive, but often times, tHe Response to what Donald Trump says or does is as bad or worse than him so, hey, lets stop this vortex of vitriol, and get what we can agree on, which is a lot. You know . And so, i did make a few calls and that period of time, and said hey, this is what i think the president should say. I dont know if it got to him or not, certainly didnt say those things that i think could have brought americans together around where the consensus, hey, would it be right to activate the military to stop people from burning down peoples businesses and, you know, in Portland Or Seattle . Yes, that would make sense, but the way it was portrayed, you know, was just even more divisive, you know. Well, trump certainly chose the path of divisive is repeatedly, catty and one of the defining relationships, theres putin, of course, but another defining Policy Relationship for Donald Trump which was discussed at length in this book was with Xi Jinping, china. Of course his relationship with china and the pivoting of that relationship that you hr says one of the better things that Donald Trump testament you are right about a meeting between then President Trump and chinese president , Xi Jinping pick what, is trump began to speak i experienced a wave of apprehension that caused a sinking feeling in my stomach. The president agreed with Xi Jinping that military exercises with South Korea were provocative and went on to describe them as a waste of money. Even worse, he seemed to agree with Xi Jinpings suggested of a return of reese for free trump did not refer to the Talking Points i had given on the top issues of taiwan, the south China Sea and the santa cruz. His response to Xi Jinpings complains of all 350 impression of u. S. Ambivalence over countering Peoples Liberation Army aggression across tHe Region. Just when i thought it could get no worse, trump offered to mediate on the senkakus, claiming that china had a claim to be adjudicated. White House Chief of staff, John Kelly folded a note, he is our lunch, He Cut Trump wrote into our lap. Is a great seeing it there are many great scenes in the book. Hr. When you look at a possible second Trump Administration, what have we learned from the first one and who do you think there could be that could play the kind of, you know, harnessing of the disruptive nature of the president that you tried to play in the first administration . Well, catty, it does matter, you know, who is around the president and we hope the president would appoint good people. I think theres a lot of good people you think you will . I think in confirmable positions . Yes. I know there are some good people waiting to come to help any president. One of the things in the book, catty is, look, i served the Trump Administration and this is not a woe is me book. I was grateful for the opportunity to help the elected president. This is my sixth Commander In Chief that i had served under as a military officer. So, i i hope that good americans, who can make a difference in any Administration Volunteer to serve. Whether it is in uniform, as a diplomat, as an intelligence official. We need the best Young Americans to serve our nation, at this critical moment, which richard has written about in tHe Recent foreign affairs. It is a really critical moment in history for us. And so, i hope that is the theme, catty. And of course, Donald Trump would portray in that meeting with Xi Jinping. That is probably not going to surprise a lot of americans. I mean, he does say, without filter a lot of times. And sometimes that is good. Sometimes that is arresting. Sometimes that is damaging. It just depends on, you know, what is on his mind at the time, and yeah. But i hope that the main, you know, the main thrust of the book, and kind of the tenor of the book is that it was a privilege to serve, this was a complicated picture, like it is within any administration, and i hope americans learn what it was like. I mean, i think it is, in many cases, like that story and others, i mean, there are stories that i think are insightful, in terms of the president and his character, personality, and how he interacted with the challenges that we are still facing today. She was so out there. Stop telling me how to live the my life and just shut up. I thought whos going to watch that . You are making me out to be some mamas boy. Than i realized, maybe if he was like a really bad sky. So, what happened with you and The Sopranos is like hbo said go for it, man . Well, nobody else wanted it. David was a tv veteran, but havent really directed. I have no idea what i was doing, but i knew it was going to be about money and death. Could you have a killer as your lead . Is there a place for that on television . So, that is a look at a new two Part Hbo original documentary about what many critics have described as possibly the best Television Show of all time. In wiseguy, David JasonThe Sopranos, Academy Awardwinning director, Alex Gibney sits down with the director of the Shows Creator on the unlikely success and his enduring legacy 25 years after it premiered the document used September 7th on hbo and max, and alex, he joins us now. Alex, thank you so much for being here this morning. It is sort of hard to believe the show considered by many to be, perhaps the greatest of all time, on that very, very short list. But yet, it almost didnt happen at all, we just heard David J suggest that No One else wanted it. Tell us a little bit about the likeliness that it even happened at all. Well, david had an interesting career when he started out. I mean, he had worked on some porno films. He had worked on some Tv Shows and done anything he could to get into the business, and a veteran tv guy. He always wanted to make movies. And then you have the script, which was about his mother, really and he took it around everybody, and they all turned him down, as one famous Broadcast Executive said, we really like this mom thing, but are you wedded to the therapy, i. E. , the motor of the show, so i said yeah, i guess you could say i am married to the therapy. And then he brought it over to hbo, hbo was steering against the algorithms of the day. They wanted to do something different, and in walks this guy, with this extraordinary film, and they decided, lets just invest in him, and they did. So, what drew you to this . Were you a fan of the show at the time . What made this a compelling topic for you . I mean, i was a huge fan of the show. I love it. Hbo asked me to do something about it, and initially i was reluctant, because i just didnt i didnt feel the need to do a promo show, but when i went and had lunch with david in l. A. , i just found him to be a fascinating character, and the whole story of the Origin Story of The Sopranos was really interesting to me. So, both getting into how the show was made, and how also its relevance into the idea of, you know, what is going on today, where it is difficult to get original stuff made, but somehow david found a way, maybe we can all find a way. So, tell us a little bit more about what we should expect and document her, who did you talk to beyond . Obviously i talked to david, a number of key cast members, lorraine, eddie falco, we had a lot of, sadly Jim Gandolfini is no longer with us, but we searched the archives for a lot of wonderful material, but also be dug deep. We had this material, not only from davids past, because has a wealth of Home Movies about, not only his own childhood, but we also got the original audition tapes. Those are really fascinating to watch, because when you are thinking about like, we are starting from a script, now who do we cast . That is an interesting story. What is the sense that the campaign about how that interview went yesterday . I think the most telling phrase and probably the most important to Kamala Harriss appeal to the kind of voters she will need to win was the phrase that she used about where most americans are. I think, overall, what we heard from her Last Night really ones a repudiation of the politics that dominated the democratic party in 2020 when she was, of course, running in the democratic primary and had to stake out some positions that st were not popular with most americans. She said that ulshe was, sHe Reversed herself on the decriminalization of border crossings. She said that, you know, that she would support fracking. She said she would appoint a republican or that she might, she would consider appointing a republican to her cabinet. This is about as far from the Kamala Harris of 20192020 as i could have imagined. It is much more in step with where the kinds of voters are that she will need to win over in michigan, pennsylvania, suburban atlanta, Suburban Phoenix becomes the policies that a lot of democrats were trying to embrace, because they thought that is where the party was in 2020, were really out of step with the concerns of most americans. That became evident when the democratic party rejected candidates like Kamala Harris, elizabeth warren, in 2020 and el went with the centrist Joe Biden. I think she has really positioned herself in a way that should scare republicans. I know that republicans were scrambling yesterday to try to figure out how to push back on this interview. They, once again, have failed to land a punch on harris. What you see, i think, is the kind of soaring rhetoric from her about uniting the country that a lot of people are really hungry for. The criticism you hear from the Trump Campaign and republicans that they hope will take hold with independent voters is that Vice PresidentVo Harris doesnt quite know who she was. She was someone in 2019 that she is saying she is not now. She answered specific questions to get into it a little more closely. Vice president harris, pressed on those evolving policy positions, including on the question of fracking. Do you still want to ban fracking . No, and i made that clear on the Debate Stage in 2020. I would not ban fracking. As Vice President , i did not ban fracking. As president , i will not ban fracking. In 2019, i believe in a townhome, you said, you were asked would you commit to implementing a federal ban on fracking your first date in office . It changed in that campaign . In 2020, i made very clear where i stand. I am in 2024, i have not changed that position. I kept my word and i will keep my word. What made you change that position at the time . One, lets be clear, my values have not changed. I believe it is very important that we take seriously what we must do to guard against what is a clear crisis in terms of the climate. To do that, we can do what we have accomplished thus far. The Inflation Reduction Act, what we have done to invest, by my calculation, over bubbly 1 Trillion over the next 10 years. Investing in a clean Energy Economy. What we have already done, creating over 300,000 new clean energy jobs. That tells me, from my experience as Vice President , we can do it without banning fracking. In fact, i cast of the tie breaking vote that actually increased leases for fracking as Vice President. I am very clear about where i stand. Was there some policy or scientific data that you saw that he said oh, okay, i get it now . What i have seen is that we can grown and we can increase a thriving clean Energy Economy without banning fracking. Sam stein, pretty clear there. She said in 2019, i want to ban fracking. In 2020, when i became the Vice President ial nominee i came on board that we are not going to ban fracking. The subtext, because Dana Bash did a good job asking specific questions about how she has changed on a series of an policies, the subtext is forget everything i said in 2019 when i was running in a democratic in primary, the person you should look at is The One setting before you today and The One od who was on the stage with Joe Biden in 2020. Right, i mean, yes. That is the subtext. Ive always wondered in these situations, could someone go for bullworth and go look, i was in the democratic party, i needed some progressive votes and now im not. That is probably the Truth Or Ob close to it. There is some validity to the idea that the Inflation Reduction Act did spend, you know, historic amount of money to prop up the clean Energy Economy. Obviously, that has helped ob pursue that economy and grow it in a way that allows for fracking. If we are being frank about it, fracking is a huge industry or relatively huge industry in a critical Swing State of pennsylvania and you dont want to offend that industry. Theres no good answers, really, to give to that question. I thought she did what e she ha to do, which was a certain position, explain as best she can and move on. I am a broken record. This is why you probably should do more interviews. You get these things out of the way so you can move on to more favorable terrain and i imagine this will come up again during the debate and im sure she will have the same exact answer. Switch today welcome welcome back to Morning Joe Weekend. Lets pick back up on the conversation we were just having before the break. One of the themes of the Interview Yesterday and that the convention last week was the turning of the page we heard the Vice President talk about in the interview. THe Refrain we are not going back, talking about the dark years of Donald Trump viewed as expected, Donald Trump waiting on the interview. In fact, even for the interview. There was a prerecorded conversation with the daily mail. Trump criticized harris for not doing her interview life, claiming it shows she is not very smart. Here is what trump said. It is not a live interview. It is an interview that is going to be taped and edited and put out. That is not even an interview. Then she is doing it with her Vice President sitting there. Shes not very smart. When they asked her a question she cant answer, she will look at him. You answer it. In a Fundraising Email after harriss interview, the Trump Campaign called her, the biggest liar ever to run for president , and the email Accused Harris of flipflopping on positions, Something Trump has been repeatedly himself, including yesterday on abortion and ivf. We will get into that in just a moment. Eddie Glaude Jr. , as we think about this campaign as a study in contrast, you couldnt help but think in a nonpartisan way watching Vice President Harris have a conversation with an interviewer that did not include insults, cheap shots, that did not include her personal vendettas, her personal grievances. She answered questions about policy soberly. You can agree or disagree with the policy decisions. You talk about contrast, watch Donald TrumpSpeak And Post on Social Media and watching Vice President Harris do that interview. That is such an important point. During the interview with Vice President Harris, there were positions we could sink our teeth in. There were positions where we could decide we are we do we stand . We had an adult in front of us. Then there is Donald Trump. What Donald Trump requires of the american voter is we get down in the mud that we go to our lesser angels, we go to our base instincts. We saw that in sharp contrast. When Vice President Harris said we wanted to leave behind an era, it is embodied and represented in the contrast in those interviews. One, trying to get us to think about our future and the present, and the other, trying to get us to think about our instincts, our fears, our grievances. That is a contrast she should continue to make moving forward. And, what she is doing, critically, is not attacking trump for what he is. She is telling us what he isnt. She is saying he isnt capable of putting the country above himself. Voters, at this point, Know What Trump is. They know the attacks. They know what a threat to our democracy he could be. But, Kamala Harris is articulating, i think, a much more powerful statement about what four years of trump would be and it would just be selfishness, it would be chaos. And, she is doing that by pointing out what he is capable of. I think it is also critical to point out, to sams point, about the identity Politics Aspect of this all and how that is, the democratic party seems to have turned the page on this. I dont think it is about deemphasizing the historic nature of her candidacy. I think it is about not making the campaign about herself. You are not hearing the slogans im with her. She wants to make this about the american people and how she will take us forward into a different kind of error, a kind of politics where we are not at each others throats. Were we can feel like the better angels of our nature are still there and need to be nurtured. I think she is a very wisely making this about the country and bringing the country back together rather than saying this is about me, this is who i am. You already have one candidate who is doing that quite well. By the way, the Harris Campaign is happy to have Donald Trump step into the void everything like that, make it about himself, give the insults and give them the chance to say this is what we are talking about. We dont want to go back. Coming up, our next guest says Robert F Kennedy junior sold him drugs in college. He will tell us why he thinks that is significant now when Morning Joe Weekend returns. Lets turn lets turn to your latest piece in the atlantic, which has this remarkable Headline Rfk Jr. Was my drug dealer. You write about an instance in which you met kennedy while a student at harvard back in 1972. Take it away, what happened . Didnt meet him actually until 73. The story, of course, has this trufant headline and little anecdote about buying cocaine from him during our freshman year. It is interesting. I have told friends about it over the years. Never was going to write about it, never was going to publicize it, just one of those interesting things. My little connection to this famous and increasingly famous person over my lifetime. That, so why i wrote about it, when he dropped out and endorsed Donald Trump, and i was of two minds about it until i heard this amazing speech he gave on friday endorsing Donald Trump. Because, as people, if they read it, will see it is not about hes a drug dealer, is in that terrible, at all. My point was what a strange, Selfish Weirdo he was at 19 as my drug dealer. By the way, The One time in my life i had ever bought cocaine, just for tHe Record. But, that was my point. Also, to give a glimpse, given that in his endorsement of Donald Trump and his republican party he was, the idea of this environmental Activist Lawyer endorsing the most Anti Environment as a president ial nominee i think in modern history is just extra ordinary because it is about his own continuing his 15 minutes of fame, and perhaps, it sounds like from the speech, to say if not Health And Human Services secretary, head of the fda. I hadnt seen much about this in the speech. He talked about i will staff these agencies so corporate, Big Corporate Power will not capture regulation. I will staff sounds like hes going to be running something for a possible second Trump Administration. Moreover, his speech, this line of his, the alternative facts upside down world, Fantasyland Idea of democrats versus republicans. He said early 60s, First Time i went to the democratic convention when my uncle was being nominated for the democratic party was the champion of the constitution and of civil rights and against authoritarianism and the Party Of Labor and the Working Class and the champion of the environment and a bulwark against big money interests. And, but the democratic party, he was, is not that now. Which, is untrue and increasingly untrue given this error is democratic party, a combination of muscular Foreign Policy and progressive social economic policy. At that point, i just lost it and said, okay, this guy is as full of lien fantasies, mental disorder, selfishness, whatever as trump. Then, in my piece, i never thought about the ways in which Bobby Kennedy Junior and Donald Trump are so similar and always have been, as these entitled rich boys who are, have gotten where they are and are leading this one degraded political party to wherever it is being led to. And you are certainly right. I aqible, serious environment list. He has seemingly tossed that way. Molly, please ask kurt a question but i am curious to get your take as to how much you think this endorsement will mean. This is the 100 Million question is worthy rfk voters, trump voters in anyway or are they harris voters . That ive read and heard many different theories of k his is things in this insane Election Cycle where we wont know until we know. Ive seen polls that showed it helps trump, ive seen polls that shows it helps harris. I dont know. Trump thinks it helps them, which is why he sent Rfk Jr. Endorse. My question for you, kurt, is that when i read that piece, which i thought was interesting and quite smart, i also think there were, to write these stories, because there is a club to growing up, going to these Ivy League institutions that what happened at harvard stays at harvard, did you feel at all, you know, as someone who has had great privilege myself, always think about how important it is to tell the truth, kind of a moment where you felt sort of like you were i think it is a very brave thing to do in a certain way. Did you feel conflicted . Very brave overstates the case. Of course, the swarm of trump and Rfk Jr. Fans saying i am a coke head jerk, narc, whatever they said on x was bound to come, and it did. Once he did, i thought for a long time and wrote about it in my Book Fantasyland as an avatar of dangerous falsehoods about vaccines and so forth. Once he did this thing, this monumental act of hypocrisy endorsing this person who is, represents things and leads tHe Republican party that couldnt be more opposite of his father, uncle, and Uncles Version of the democratic party, it was too much for me to bear. What i discovered, actually, in terms of, as you say, my membership in this club, my old harvard friends reached out to me and said there is this story about bobby that conforms and there is this story and they all involve, interestingly, The Ones that they gave to me, were these tales of recklessness in which they, these friends, were involved. Oh my god, what is he doing . Recklessness in his selfish Kennedy Boy away involving other people. That it seems to me, expresses so much about him. I dont care what trump is going to do as long as he lets me run the fda and ply my nutty ideas about drugs and disease across u. S. Policy and allows me to continue being a government official. That is what it is about. It is selfishness. THe Recklessness im proceeding with. I ended up, you know, i didnt feel very torn. One more thing about his speech. When he said if President Trump is elected and honors his word to me, we will be healthier in four years and Chronic Disease will disappear. If President Trump honors his word, i mean, that was an amazing line. We certainly know trumps history during that. Kurt, thank you, tHe Remarkable new piece is available online now in the atlantic. Its called project 2025, a 922page Blueprint to make Donald Trump the most powerful president ever overhauling the department of justice, giving trump the unchecked power to seek vengeance, eliminating the department of education, and defunding k through 12 schools, requiring the government to monitor womens pregnancies, and severe cuts to medicare and social security. Donald trump may try to deny it, but those are Donald Trumps plans. Well revenge does take time. I will say that sometimes revenge can be justified. Hell take control. Well pay the price. Im Kamala Harris, and i approved this message. We now we now know, by the way, Vice PresidentKamala Harris has plans for Labor Day include her first visit to Western Pennsylvania since accepting the democratic president ial nomination and she will have a special guest, president Joe Biden will join Vice President Harris during a stop in pittsburgh on monday, for their first joint Campaign Event. Pennsylvania is, of course, the most populous battleground state, seen as key for harriss path to victory. Donald trump carried the state in 2016 but President Biden managed to recapture it for democrats in 2020. Joining us now, senior Spokesperson And Advisor for the Harris Campaign, Sara Tindall Ghazal three. It is great to see you this morning. Following up on the interview we have been discussing at length this morning, Vice President Harris and her nominee for Vice President , Tim Walz, sitting down with Dana Bash of cnn. How should, now that weve seen this interview that Vice President Harris has been pressed on her previous positions on immigration, on fracking, and many other issues, how should a voter, undecided suburban voter wondering which version of Kamala Harris they should look at, how should they be thinking as we roll into Election Day around the bend here . It is great to be with you guys. Really appreciate the commentary. I completely agree. What you saw when the Vice President spoke Last Night, it is that her values remained unchanged since she became a prosecutor, since she became Attorney General of california, United States senator, Vice President , and seeking the highest office in the land. Her values have remained the same. As she very much took on, head on, she made it clear that some of her positions have evolved, which is standard when you are in Public Service and you learn more about the issues. As things evolve, sometimes your positions to evil. She leaned into her position on fracking, which is the same position she had in 2020. She talked about immigration. I think the average american who, you know, might have been tuning into the campaign but to go into the interview Last Night, i think what they learned is number one, shes putting the american people first. It doesnt matter if you are going to vote for her or not. She is going to put american people, their values, first and foremost every single day when she makes every single position. I think you also saw, speaking of values, just the strong partnership she had with governor Tim Walz. They really are a team and that is a partnership she had with President Biden. That is something the two of them talked about quite often, that they had a partnership on every decision they made, every major policy that they supported and passed under President Bidens administration. That is the same sort of values she has, of course, in partnership she will have with governor walz. I think, you know, going back to a president for all americans, she said she was going to appoint a republican to serve in her cabinet, which i think is a testament to the fact that she is not looking at, if you are a democrat or republican, what your Party Affiliation is. She wants to make sure the american people understand she is going to fight for every single one of them and i think that came across very clear in Last Nights interview. I think one key to the success that Vice President Harris has had in this campaign so far, and we should emphasize so far because it is certainly not over, but one key is that she has not allowed Donald Trump to set the agenda. She has dominated the News Cycle, yes, but she has also set the agenda for what she talks about and how she talks about it. That is so far, so good. Where does she go next . Shes going to Western Pennsylvania. Does she talk about fracking . Does she talk about energy there . How does she stay ahead in the Agenda Setting Department and in the domination of the News Cycle that she has had so far . A couple of things, eugene. She gave a major economic speech a couple of weeks ago in North Carolina. You will continue, over the course of the next eight or nine weeks, to see her talk more about what her vision is going to be in terms of policies that she will back when she becomes president. You will hear her talk more about that. I dont want to get in front of her comments but you will see her talk more about her vision, her economic vision and what she plans to do for the american people over the course of the next few weeks. We have the debate Coming Up on September 10th, where you will hear her lay out her vision even more and you will see her make that contrast with Donald Trump. He supports an agenda that will, wants to divide while she supports an agenda that wants to move us forward and united this country. Finally, eugene, on your comment about, you know, is kind of taking the High Road here and not letting Donald Trumps toward her from talking about her vision for america, i think you thought it play out Last Night when Dana Bash asked her about the derogatory comments, to put it mildly, that Donald Trump has said about her. She sort of brushed it off and said that is the same old playbook, next question please. She understands that when she has the time and the privilege to talk to the american people in the way that she did Last Night, she wants to make sure they understand what she stands for, what shes going to fight for, that she is putting them first. She doesnt want to use airtime to talk about the crazy divisive things Donald Trump has been saying not only about her but about women candidates for a very long time. That is a testament to the way she is approaching this campaign. She is taking her job very seriously and she wants to make sure that the american people understand where she is on the issues, understand the choice that is in this election, the choice of her who wants to move us forward, trump wants to move us backward and that is what she wants to Focus On. Missouri has become the latest state that will vote on a constitutional amendment to enshrine abortion rights. Right now, missouri has one of the strictest Abortion Bans in the nation. The court has until September 10th to make changes to the ballot. There are several lastminute legal challenges from both sides of the aisle. Republicans and an Antiabortion Leader have filed a lawsuit hoping to have the entire measure thrown out. Democrats, in favor of the initiative, have sued because of how was i republican Secretary Of State worded the measure. Democrats running for office are hoping the issue of Reproductive Rights will give a much needed boost in what has become a solidly red state. Joining us now, missouri State Representative, crystal quaid, the democratic nominee for governor. Great to see you. Molly has the first question. Hi, crystal. Great to have you here. Talk to me about Ballot Initiatives. We have seen Ballot Initiatives over perform the partisan lien in states like ohio. Is that possible where you are . Also, talk to us about what it looks like on the ground, what you are hearing from voters. The Initiative Petition is something voters have used in missouri many times to pass issues republicans in Jefferson City refuse to, things like medicaid expansion, stopping right to work, raising the minimum wage. We utilize this all the time. We are really excited and very confident about this initiative here in november. Representative, Symone Sanders Townsend here. This initiative was a Citizen Led Initiative that got on the ballot. I have to imagine missouri doesnt make it easy in terms of signatures to put a Ballot Initiative before the voters. Are you concerned that it seems as though state legislators, some of your colleagues, are moving to overturn the will of the voters, even before they are able to cast a ballot . Obviously, voters in missouri said they want this to be on the ballot, to have the opportunity to weigh in. We were able to collect more than double the amount of signatures needed, 380,000 of them in less than three months, which is huge. And, it is a testament to how far behind our current laws are and how much missourians want to have their freedoms back. Yes, we know that folks on the other side are trying to stop this every step of the way. They have, there have already been many lawsuits filed by the Secretary Of State and we have No Doubt that when this passes in november, the legislature is going to come back in january during our next session and try to overturn this. They have done it for so many other things, which is why it is so important we elected democrats like myself to be able to uphold the voices of missourians. Crystal, Senator Josh Hawley is up for reelection. He campaigned as a traditional republican but is more immortalized in the iconic Fist Pump Photo after the January 6th insurrection at the capitol. How did you think this Ballot Initiative on abortion, does it have impact on a down Ballot Race like his Senate Race against democratic challenger . I believe and know quite frankly this will have an impact on down Ballot Races. The Abortion Access and access to Health Care is not a partisan issue. Once tops happened, and i cant tell you how many Phone Calls i personally received in my office from folks who went into Get Care during a is kept and doctors told them you are not close enough to death yet, you have to go home and they would call bleeding out in the bathroom, what is happening, how can you help me . This is not partisan. We know folks in every corner of our state are impacted by this law that has zero exceptions in our state so we know they are going to vote for this Ballot Initiative and we know they are going to turn out and it is our job as democrats to continue to spread the message that we are The Ones fighting for this freedom and to turn that into votes at the Ballot Box for us. Democratic nominee for governor of missouri, State Representative crystal quade, thank you for joining us this morning. Up next, we will dive into a new book that explores how sports stadiums have played a role in the history of politics and protest. Est. As you guys know, a lot of good stuff has happened in this building. Especially in the 90s. Young people, Google Michael Jordan and you can read all about it. There was an amazing vibe in this building back in those days. I feel that same winning spirit here tonight. That was, of course, golden state warriors Head CoachSteve Kerr returning to chicagos united center for the Democratic National Convention last week, the same building where he won three championships as a player with the chicago bulls back in, as he said, in the 1990s. For decades, sports venues have played host to major moments in politics, music, and even race relations. Joining us now is professor of africanamerican studies at columbia university, frank grady. He is the author of a new book the stadium, and american history of politics, protests and play. Talk to us about the origin of this idea. Certainly we know in recent years there has been a backlash , shut up and dribble, from the right telling athletes and coaches leave politics out of it. We are seeing more and more that is not going to happen. I think it is because venues like stadiums, what i argue in the book, our public institutions. Whether they are owned by private entities or not, they have functioned as a place where we fight about what it means to be an american. We saw that clearly last week at the Democratic National Convention. We saw that in the Convention Hall but also outside, those calling for the ceasefire in the war on gaza, right . I think because the stadium and the arena itself is entangled in politics, that means sports is also entangled in politics. Frank, one of the things i see you brought to life in the book was in 72, there was a huge event at the l. A. Coliseum. This was a black Music Company that brought out Isaac Hayes and any number of people. One of the People That hosted it, reverend jesse jackson, who you know was one of my mentors, and hes there with his big afro and medallion. Ive been telling jonathan i learned how to wear a medallion from jesse jackson. Talk about the fact that even during, because this is like four years after dr. King was killed. Even with movements like that, way before Colin Kaepernick became part of what was considered a Protest Movement in sports, that these venues hosted events that were very, very much part of a movement of black people and later lgbtq and other events. It is a history you know very well, you are a part of. The black Freedom Movement has a major impact on the history of the american stadium. Whether it was the freedom rallies held at madison square garden in the 1940s or civil rights rallies held by dr. King at Soldier Field and other places across the country and the very famous watch this concert, which was more the staging of the black nation, it was about the staging of black aspirations for equality and citizenship. Because the coliseum was a publicly managed and funded venue, marginalized communities have always had access to the american stadium. Professor, i was out in chicago and it struck me that there were so many levels that are for vip or for private boxes. Is there a new form of segregation creeping into stadiums, where it is of the have and havenots . I would say it is already there and institutionalized in the architecture of most modern stadiums and arenas. Back to the 1990s, we see stadiums and arenas become corporatized and designed for the vip set. The luxury suite, premium suite. Suite. Venues are really out of tHe Reach of most common americans. Although, because they are placed to attract People T centrally located it becomes places that are to protest, as we saw again at the convention last week. A lot of these team owners with the City And State to help pick up the tab. To build those stadiums. We should just not if you other stadiums had events celebrating all things dixie. D tHe Rev mentioned los angeles coliseum, that black power event, theres a dark side of this, madison square garden, madison square garden of all places hosted pro nazi rallies in the 20s and 30s. The stadium, it is on sale now, frank, thank you for joining us again. Things for having me, it is a pleasure. And that is all for today on this weekend. Y we are back here Tomorrow Morning at 6 00 eastern, for rn another week of Morning Joe. Ot until then, we hope you enjoy tHe Rest of your sunday. Good morning, everyone. It is sunday, september 1st, i am symone sanderstownsend. That is
