We now of course have that to the republican and Democratic National convention n and right now they are telling a story that Vice President harris is doing significant the better than President Biden has been doing and that is comparatively good news for the democrats. They are, apparently better off now with harris as their candidate than they were before the switch. That said, in absolute terms, the National Polls and the swing state polls, broadly speaking dont really give either Party Something to celebrate and Vice President harris may be doing better than biden was against trump but it doesnt mean she is clearly winning and it is a tie between the two category candidates. It produces all sorts of interesting dynamics but when it is as close and a little difference can make a very interesting not only contrast but can make a big difference for the ultimate results and Trump Campaign is maneuvering to try to get them out of the one debate and he agreed to it with Kamala Harris and it is supposed to happen two weeks from now and trump himself is trying to get out of it. And overlaid the sound of him complaining with the sound of chickens clicking or clucking so they are baiting them about this and it seems they are trying to get him out of it and it is fascinating as they tried to get to the debate against harris. Also with the campaign events, they are getting weird and out of arizona, events a few days ago, there was a backstage camera angle that caught this on the teleprompter and as a Republican Senate candidate kari lake was speaking you see it says 535 meaning you are five minutes 35 seconds over your allotted time and then underneath it says please get off the stage. But then almost a minute later there is another shot where it says 6 23 so six minutes 23 seconds. And now the instructions they say get offstage with trump waiting. And this is the same event when trump got an endorsement from an Arizona Police union and while the Union President was making his pro trump remark and basically giving the endorsement, it seems like trump got bored or annoyed or crept up on the guy and was looming over his shoulder and frowning while he was speaking and at one point he leans in and tells the sky he needs to get lost and get off the stage. And the police union guy appears a little rattled by this and maybe startled and he quickly gets his stuff together and then awkwardly sneaks off because trump told him to get out. That is a nice way to receive an endorsement. This was on friday in arizona. Today, that same police Union Announced that they are endorsing the democratic u. S. Senate candidate the Guy Running Against Republican Kari Lake and that same police union is endorsing the u. S. Congress men in combat veteran ruben diego and they had already given trump his endorsement but that one couldnt be reeled back in and if this situation here, this was trump trying to turn on the charm and also get this unions endorsement for the Republican Senate candidate he was there to support. We all know how good he did this sharing the glory in the spot light. Get offstage, trump waiting. So when it is this close and essentially a tie, it is worth watching and even the small differences and the nuances between two campaigns because anything can be determined. Of course we will have some news about how democrats appear to have put North Carolina back on their own side of the electoral map and they hope to have an interesting story. And also as i mentioned when i spoke a moment ago i will show this hour tonight the very first clip we are releasing from a new movie about the first trump impeachment and you probably think you know all there is to know about trumps first impeachment. You dont. I think that story bizarrely ends up being not just entertaining in the way we told it i think at least for me but i think it is particularly relevant as trump is of course running for reelection. It is understandable in president ial Election Years that all eyes are on that top level contest between the two major parties and their president ial candidates. But in a president ial Election Year like this with just two months ago to go, may i suggest on you dont sleep on what is happening in the states and yes, watch the two major parties and the candidates and watch the two fight each other and the nuances of how they compete but watch the nuances in the states and what is happening because sometimes even in an Election Year what is happening in the states seems like it cant possibly be happening. For example, how is this for a local news lead this weekend in michigan. Things got off to an odd start at the Michigan Republican Party Convention in flint today. The former gop chair was escorted out of the event by police. It is an odd start. And even if this want the state Republican Party and one of the most important swing states in the country in a president ial Election Year, it does sound like an odd start for the Michigan Republican party state convention. The former michigan gop chair who was ousted from leadership made an appearance at the event but was removed. The new chair was greeted by some booth when he took the stage. We have had problems in this state party. Officials say she was asked to take a seat but refused and was also asked to leave but refused again which prompted Law Enforcement to get involved escorting her out of the building for causing a disruption and clogging up the floor. Causing a disruption and clogging out the floor and the detroit News Reporter was able to capture this view of the former state Republican Party chair being escorted out of the convention by police and it was followed by some pushing and shoving and maybe even a little punching. It is hard to tell exactly what is going on. But clearly something that isnt politics is happening here as police are called in to remove the convention and the woman who claims she still is the chair of the Michigan Republican party. She was elected in 2023, removed in January Of 2024 and then refused to go in february and a Michigan Court ruled she had to go and she was still trying to get courts to reinstate her as the Michigan Party chairman and as of this week and the cops were called and to get her out of the floor of the state Party Convention. That i mentioned this is one of the most important states in the country for the president ial race and we are two months off from the president ial election and the state chairman is almost booed off the stage as he tried to convene the state convention and the person who claims she is still the real party chair is escorted by police and it has been months now that in the Michigan State Republican Party they have been calling the cops on each other and getting fistfights after the official Republican Party. And we pay so much attention to how the two parties campaigns are doing competing against each other in various polls and worth noticing when things are absolutely bananas with one of the parties in those states and it is not only happening in one state and not long after the Michigan Republican party went to war with itself and ousted its chair and she refused to go and she took them to court and nobody knew who was running the place, not long after that a version of that happened in florida right after michigan throughout their state Republican Party chair and florida throughout theirs as well following news reports he was being investigated by police for allegations of rape. Police said they were investigating him for video voya zero some Voyeurism Charges for doing that without consent and the florida Republican Party threw it out and they had several charges in those investigations. But then right on the heels of that, the state of arizona lost their chair as well in the same Senate Candidate who awkwardly appeared with trump this weekend, kari lake, she released secretly recorded audio tapes of the Arizona State republican chairman in which she said he was trying to bribe her to leave the senate race and reportedly threatened to release more tapes of him and quit as the Arizona State Republican Party chairman. Right on the heels of that, the national Republican Party lost its chair and pushed out or residing in order to make room for Donald Trumps daughterin law with her experience for the job including being a finger in addition to being married to one of trumps sons, the blonde one. That seemed like a totally legitimate noncontroversial choice for the leadership of the national Republican Party and so mcdaniel had to go. But all of that is happening just this year in 2024. It is only august. Michigan, florida, arizona, the national Republican Party, they all lost their top leadership under embarrassing, if not terrible circumstances. All in a crucial Election Year. It is happened again and this time it happened in colorado. We start tonight with big news in colorado politics. Estates Republican Party chairman is out and Party Leaders were voted out of leadership of the colorado gop today and those leaders said they considered to this meeting and vote fake with the meeting starting at noon and still going. Right now the Republican Party members are now voting on who will now lead the state party. Our reporter has been there all day. Reporter it is 2 1 2 months until election day and colorado Republican Party members are still fighting their own leaders. For those who dont change in the middle of a race, that is a valid argument unless of course the rider mac is trying to kill the horse. That was this weekend as colorado Republican Party officials met to vote out there state Party Chairman and they said was destroying the party but for his part a little bit like it happened in michigan the Republican Party chair and colorado is refusing to recognize the validity of the vote to remove him because of course he is. He said the meeting this saturday in brighton, colorado where they voted to fire him was a sham and illegitimate and the legal. As of sunday the day after they voted to fire him he leased had custody of the letterhead on which to release the statement that said his firing was a sham and somehow he is still in charge. Maybe possession is 9 10 of the law and maybe he would still be chairman if he still possessed some letterhead that had your name on it. I dont know. I mean, who knows. One person who says she is still the chair of the Republican Party in michigan was escorted out of that state parties convention by cops this weekend while this flu and another person who said he is still the chair of the Republican Party in colorado was voted out by the other republicans but said that vote doesnt count and has the letterhead to prove it and said he is the chair and then they will see who is really in charge. Doesnt it seem like a good idea to put those folks in that party in charge of the whole country . And then there is georgia. For a few weeks now, we have been covering sort of increasingly astonishing astonishing stories about what is happening, not just to politics broadly but specifically to the Election System in georgia. One of the things that has happened over the last four years since trump tried to overturn the elections in 2020 is the Republican Party has installed Election Officials in counties and states all across the country who not only parrot trumps idea about the 2020 election not being stolen, but they have started doing what they wanted Election Officials to do for him in 2020, refusing to certify Election Results. Now, they have done this in a number of states or around the country in some blue and red and swing states but they have done this more often than any other state in the country, and its georgia. Georgia, you recall is a state where trump was indicted for multiple felonies under state law including a rico charge for his efforts to try to overthrow results in 2020 to get george officials to declare he is the winner even though he lost the state. Republicans are now trying again to block the certification of Election Results everywhere but they have been trying it most aggressively in georgia. Over the last few weeks and alarming situation has emerged because there is a newly appointed Pro Trump Majority on the official Georgia State Election Board. Recent the they passed a flurry of new rules that purport to legalize some of these practices or purport to empower local Election Officials to actually do this stuff, to block the certification of the vote or delay the certification of the vote. And the State Election Board is apparently planning to do much more of this even as we get closer and closer to the election date. The Washington Post reported that the Election Board Plans to adopt nearly a dozen additional rules beyond the new ones they just put into effect in the over coming weeks and despite warnings from state and local officials that the lateness of the calendar all but guarantees confusion in the states. I think part of understanding the importance of this tactic is that confusion in the states is probably the point. It is one thing to say we want the right to flip an electric Election Result but its another thing to say we want the right and claim the right to essentially report there is no result or any discernible result but a big question about it and it seems like there is a cloud over the result. If you cannot just flip the result but not directly flip it but instead create a sense that there is some confusion or lack of clarity and something wrong with the way the election is conducted. So the results isnt organically and clearly emerging. That can justify doing all sorts of extraordinary strange things to come up with what purports to be an Election Result. I will be honest. I have found that these actions by the State Election Board in georgia have just been jaw dropping. I have been covering this kind of stuff for a long time and i have been covering versions of different types of these things not just in the trump era but republicans and all sorts of elections. But i have never really seen what happened with this Georgia State Election Board in recent weeks. This isnt the Trump Campaign making crazy claims or advocating they do crazy stuff. This is actually the state, the official Election Board that sets the rules for how elections are handled in georgia and not just discussing crazy things but passing these rules that are Rudy Giuliani hair dye dripping down the face crazy and they are not just asking somebody else to do crazy stuff related to the election but they are the elections board and are doing it. I will be honest. Watching the georgia situation with this Election Board tripled my Blood Pressure and it has worried me so much that i wrote an oped and it is not like me to do something and i have been worried and i have to tell you that in todays News Something appears to be breaking on the subject. The shenanigans here have provoked talking points memos what they call ferocious pushback particularly from georges own Voter Registration and Election Officials. Local officials have indeed been inciting radical changes to georgias Election Rules and they seem to be designed to give republicans cover to refuse to declare the official results of the election in november with local officials and Voter Registration officials, local Election Officials at the county level and beyond in georgia have been pushing back vociferously. Today, State Legislatures spoke legislators spoke at the capital demanding that this runaway Election Board be stopped not only because they are trying to mug the Election Process of the state they are doing so in a way that seems to violate the rules by which they are supposed to operate. After that press Conference Today at the state capital, two really really interesting things happened. First, the republican governor of georgia, brian kemp, did something very interesting. He made a request to the State Attorney General asking for clarification, asking if he is governor has the power to remove members of the State Elections board if it is warranted by Ethics Concerns and that is fascinating. We will see what the attorney general says in response to that query from the governor. I expect the attorney generals response will likely come quickly if brian kemp does decide to remove these pro trump election Board Members who have upended the process just weeks before the president ial election. Wow. I dont know. Watch this space and it would be a big deal. And its one very big thing that happened today but also late today, a new lawsuit was filed from the Democratic Party of georgia and the national Democratic Party who say with support from the harriswalz campaign, as of tonight, they are suing the State Election Board in georgia to stop them from what they have been doing. The democrats big new lawsuit filed tonight asks Georgia State courts to make clear that Local Trump Loyalist officials dont actually get to make it up as they go when it comes to certifying the Election Results no matter what the State Election Board has been telling them. Local officials cant opt out certifying Election Results and cant decide on their own if they will delay the certification of the results presumably to blow through Electoral College deadlines to prevent the counts from being counted in washington. The Democrats Lawsuit Tonight Asks Georgia Courts to act quickly to clarify that what this Maga Republican Elections Board has been trying to do cant be done and these rules they have purportedly tried to pass in order to get officials these lee ways to mess up the count but it isnt real. That legally they must certify and no way to mess it up. Honestly, i have been wondering and worrying for a few weeks now about whether the democrats push back their inevitable challenge for what they have been doing in georgia and if it would be Strong Enough for come quickly enough to turn it around to make sure voters could vote where they are completed and certified and they matter when coming comes to picking the president of the united states. Kamala harris and tim walz are doing a bus tour in georgia and a big event in savannah and Going Forward in georgia as they should. But in a president ial Election Year, as important as it is to watch the way the two major parties campaign, and see the way they are competing to try to get the presidency, it is also worth watching what happens in the states. The radical stuff that republicans have been doing to the Georgia State election infrastructure means that democrats need to try both to earn peoples votes in georgia this year in traditional terms, but democrats also need to fight this whole other fight and force the republicans to actually consent to count the vote as well. As of tonight we know what some of that democratic pushback looks like. Quentin folks says, per month maga republican in georgia and across the country have been trying to lay the groundwork to challenge the Election Results when they lose again in november, but democrats are prepared and we will stop them and certifying election is not a choice but the law and a few unelected extremists cant just decide to not count the vote and we have gotten it case after case sending off efforts to chip away at our democracy. We will win this case and keep fighting for every eligible voter can cast their votes knowing it will count and that is from the harriswalz campaign as the Democratic Party both naturally and that in georgia files this big push back and lawsuit in georgia to try to stop what trump republicans are doing there, messing up the vote count. They say the new rules are designed to invite chaos. This new lawsuit filed tonight follows and ethics complaint from the recent former chair of the board of elections and another for the Democratic State senator and these complaints ask Governor Kemp of georgia to remove from the State Election Board these republican appointees who have voted for all of these radical changes just before this falls election. And, amazingly it appears Governor Kemp may be thinking of doing that and his office today said he is seeking advice from the State Attorney General about whether is governor he has the authority to take somebody off of the Election Board in georgia. And these republicans have tried effectively a brazen takeover of the infrastructure of this state and the pushback has become interesting and ferocious with an emerging sense in georgia and beyond that these loyalist who took over that Election Board may have gone too far and already this month they passed new rules that have requirements for certifying the vote that let any member of the County Board Demand Reams of documents as an excuse to certifying an election and now they have queued up 11 more suggested rules for the georgia counties to allow 11 more changes in the elections and changes about Poll Watchers and absentee ballots, counting by hand and so on and they plan to vote on these next month and they say they want to roll them out to 159 of their counties before election day and they dont even want the rules to exist until the end of september and they want all of the counties in georgia to radically have changed everything about the way they have done this by november five. And they say affect fully in one voice there isnt a way we can do that even if they were good faith changes. And the state capital in georgia today with Governor Kemp public reconsidering taking action, the georgia democrats called for him to do more than just think about it. Today i am joining my esteemed colleagues and calling for Governor Kemp to hold members of the State Election Board accountable and stand up to the rule of law and make sure the democratic process is protected and he must not allow the State Elections board to be taken over by donald trump. I was wondering if you could in your own words put what you think is going on with this Election Board. I have been watching this for weeks with increasing level of alarm and high Blood Pressure but from your perspective, how would you make the Country Listening right now what it is they are doing. Thank you for even asking but the fight for equal rights is personal. Goidad took me at three years of age and i was in the stroller at the march on washington. I am absolutely appalled to see we are fighting the same fight today that my parents and i and civil rights icons have been fighting and we did witness incredible progress up until this point. Georgia elected joe biden and Kamala Harris while electing two State Senators, but in response to that we do see them trying to over we steal the georgia election. These rules that are passed by the State Elections board make it easier for them to do so. So they know that trump is working to sow chaos and division and rollback our democracy. We refuse to here as well with Governor Kemp today asking the State Attorney General to clarify whether or not he has the power as a governor to remove members from that State Elections board and i saw today some of the people who spoke at the state capital saying absolutely the governor has that authority and not only can he but he must investigate these Ethics Investigation Obligations for those who voted for these major changes so close to the election. Do you expect Governor Kemp, either personally or through his administration to take action that would essentially stop the harm that the State Election Board is doing . I certainly am not an attorney. I am a lawyer but every lawyer ice said the law was clear and that Governor Kemp is legally required to follow this law. You know, georgia is the birthplace of the Civil Rights Movement and from john lewis to Martin Luther king jr. , the list goes on and if we truly believe that the Democratic Values and processes are there, we have a responsibility to continue their fight. How is brian kemp going to claim that he is for Lawall Hands On Deck for georgia democrats and i appreciate your helping us to understand that. Thank you. We have much more ahead tonight. This november on the same ballot as the president ial race, North Carolina voters will choose a new governor and the guy on the left here is the democratic nominee and the guy on the right to sue the republicans picked Mark Robinson. And you know the movie black panther, republican candidate for governor Mark Robinson said that movie was created by an agnostic to jewish person and put the film by a satanic marxist. And so with that record the survey says even in a closely fought swing state North Carolina doesnt love that guy in the republican candidate for governor North Carolina is polling 14 points behind in the democratic appointment opponent josh stein and democrats are not only hoping to beat Mark Robinson badly but hoping he will be such a Drag On Republicans up and down the ticket that they will give Kamala Harris and every other democrat a considerable boost. The democrats have announced a fairly epic Get Out The Vote efforts targeting young voters in particular holding 30 Different College campus events across the state in 30 days and these are 30 campuses in 30 days and this will be led by Anderson Clayton chair of the North Carolina Democratic Party and also only 26 years old, the youngest chair of any state Political Party in the whole country. I am looking at this through a admittedly reductive lens on who is at the top of the ticket on the ballot and are there nuances here that i ought to be noticing or should give people a different impression of how things will be fought in your state . I think you laid out the case against Mark Robinson just find but i think the extremism at the top of the ticket is the one that we find runs down the ballot and North Carolina is one of 11 states in the entire country that elected these and the Executive Branch is not just the Governors Office but nine other positions. The attorney general we have, congressman jeff jackson Running Against Dan Bishop who is author of the Bathroom Bill in North Carolina and you remember in 2016 in our state it cost all that money and you have Michelle Running against mo green to be Superintendent Of Schools right now, somebody that calls for public execution of barack obama to be publicly televised and belongs nowhere near our classrooms right now and mo green has been the superintendent of the Third Largest School System in North Carolina and made the case that the children in Public Schools matter more than anything so i think it is just donald trump and Mark Robinson we are looking at this year for extremism but it runs throughout and often through these races that fully endorses what Mark Robinson stands for at the top of the ticket and we did have one republican in our state that separated ourselves from him. I was going to ask you about this dynamic and sometimes when you get extremism with the type youre describing, that opens up an opportunity for the non Extremist Party and in this case the democrats to win Crossover Voters and start targeting a different audience than you might in a typical election and not just independence but republicans to cross over and vote for the more sane ticket.
