>> we are three days post debate which is enough time for a lot of reviews and discourses you are seeing. still, there are two takeaways from thursday night. one is that there was a lot of embellishments and lies from former president donald trump that went largely unchecked during his performance. secondly, and most profoundly would be that biden's fumbling performance have caused a lot of democrats to call into question his■ç vitality. you want to point to one particular shift i have noticed from the trump campaign since thursday night's performance. trump routinely has attacked the legitimacy of biden being the democratic nominee to face off against him in november. said biden will not make it to the finish line. i be surprised if he is the person that i take on come november. that tone has largely shifted since thursday night. i was speaking with the trump campaign senior adviser and he told me it is going to be a biden versus trump rematch and biden is going to be the nominee. that was the sentiment that trump echoed at his friday virginia rally. take a listen to that. >> many people are saying that after last night's performance that joe biden is leading the race.■ç but the fact is, i don't really believe that, because he does better in polls man any of the democrats they are talking about. you've seen that. the polls come out with some of the names like gavin newsom. he cannot run california. is one of the worst governors. >> reporter: so, this is quite the departure from his routine criticism saying that biden will not make it to the finish line. to speak to the underlying strategy and where that comes from is this an attempt to hush the conversation about a governor gavin newsom type of person taking the reins from president biden, looking ahead to november? if that is the strategy we do not know yet. it is notable regardless and it is something we will be looking for more and more as president biden and former president trump.■ç -- later this summer. >> okay. maybe a little bit of weather interfering with your shot. thank you so much. >> join me is the vice president at crooked media and head of vote save america. and the political correspondent for the hill and the co-author of lucky, how joe biden barely won the presidency. want to welcome you both. want you to respond to what he is saying and what donald trump was saying. he was saying he's the worst because we don't know what he sang. after the debate performance he sang, he gets the best numbers, so he is going to be the nominee. that is who i'm going up against. can you read between the lines there? is he saying this is ■çwho he wants to go against? >> i will never try to understand what donald trump is trying to say, but i do think that he now sees joe biden as the opponent he thinks he can beat so now he wants to keep joe biden as his opponent. he came out of the debate feeling really good and now he wants to maintain how he feels and sees the rest of his campaign going to rest the way that the debate did. i don't think the rest the campaign will go that way but in his head this is his best opportunity to win because he feels like he has weakened him. >> from your reporting, has there been any settling after the initial panic among democrats or is it getting stronger?
