Voters will indeed head to the polls across 16 states and one u. S. Territory today for the busiest day on the primary calendar. Republican primaries and caucuses are taking place in 15 states with 865 delegates at stake on this Super Tuesday. Former President Trump is widely expected to sweep the races in likely all of the States Holding contests today. As gop president ial opponent nikki haley continues to say shell stay in the race as long as shes competitive. Well see what that means. Meanwhile, democratic contests will be heldco in 15 states as well as American Samoa with 1420 delegates up for grabs. President biden faces no real challenge in todays content. Ahead of the vote, nikki haley made her Closing Argument to voters in texas last night at a packed rally in fort worth. She laid out whats at stake today. Republicans lost the vote on mayorkas, on israel, the rnc chair lost her job and donald trump had his j fingerprints on all of it. At some point maybe we should say the reason that america keeps losing is because of donald trump. Ep we can change all of that. But in order to change it, its going to take a lot of courage. Courage from everybody here. Courage from me to run, and courage for every one of you to know, dont complain about what happens in the general election if you dont vote in this primary. We are blessed to live in america. And we know that america is better than this. Now we have to do something about it. So this is what i will tell you, tomorrow you got a job to do. Meanwhile, in an interview with conservative Media Company right side broadcasting network, donald trump last night expressed confidence headed into todays vote. Take a look. I just say to the people watching now if you could, go out and vote. Because its not haley, shes not a problem. I think shes very negative for the party but not a problem in terms of winning because were winning by a lot. The only place we expected to lose was d. C. Because thats the swamp. Tomorrow we could win every state in record numbers thats what were hoping for. They call it Super Tuesday for a reason. I think its going to be recordt setting. I think, i hope so. There was one contest last night and former President Trump won it,on the north Dakota Republican primary. He beat haley by a 70 point po margin. Trump will likely be awarded all 29 of the delegates. In response to the win trump noted the large margin of victory and thanked the governor of first lady of north dakota. What are you expecting to hear from him or from nikki haley who said all along shes staying in the race through Super Tuesday, thatsth arrived. Whats next . Its a day of reckoning for nikki haley one would expect and every time theres a day of reckoning for her she pushes off that reckoning, moves the goal post. It was interesting in the clip you played from last night where she said the reason america is losing is donald trump. Theres a choice for her to say if theres a reason that america is losing, you would think it would be joe biden from the republican candidate for president but instead donald trump, that rhetoric is getting harsher as she gets closer to the end. But donald trump will not wrap it up tonight i believe its impossible for him to clinch it tonight. We expect it to happen this month. Lets spend more on nikki haley here. She said, a truism, the campaigns stay afloat as long as they have the money to do so. Can she push forward beyond Super Tuesday and keep an eye on the trump trial date a few weeks off, maybe ill stay in this just in case . She can do that if she wants. The question is, a couple questions, how much damage does she do to herself with Republican Base voters in the event she wants a future in the party and the other question, how much damage does she do against donald trump running against him and levying tougher criticism of him in response to the indictments against trump. A pretty big win yesterday. It is not clear that any of those trials are actually going to happen or happen before this election. So, you know, the window may be closing for her on that front. Lets take a moment and talk about the democrats. President biden is going to sweep to victories in every contest today. But tell us what sort of message are they hoping to send today as to what it could mean for the general election . I think theyre hoping to send the message that for all the talk of disunity in the Democratic Party and the issues where there are democrats who are, you know, upset with President Biden that basically it is a unified party and he has a head of steam behind him and he has, you know he had some, you know, phenomenal challenges and able to put them aside easily. They had states they didnt love what happened, particularly some of the protest votes in michigan but at the end of the day they want to come t through and say this has beengh a dominating commanding performance as you would expect from a former president and biden ready to turn to the general election. As we make that turn, President Biden is going to enjoy a massive fundraising advantage over former President Trump hes going to have more resources on hand it appears. In a unanimous decision the Supreme Court said states do not have the power to kick candidates off election ballots p it comes from a Colorado Court decision that determined donald trump was ineligible under the 14th Amendment antiinsurrection clause. We turn back now to one of our top stories. Donald trump will remain on the ballot despite efforts in some states to make him ineligible for the 2024 election. The Supreme Court rejected the ruling from the colorado Supreme Court that removed the former president from the ballot based on section 3 of the 14th Amendment. The justices ruled that a patchwork of decisions around the country could send elections into chaos if State Officials had the freedom to determine who could appear on the ballot. The decision makes clear its up to congress to enforce the insurrectionist clause against federal Office Holders and candidates. But the three liberal justices accuse conservative colleagues of going too far but Ruling Congress must enact new legislation in order to ban a candidate. They wrote this decision will make it harder to bar, quote, an oathbreaking insurrectionist from becoming president. Speaking after the ruling was announced. Trump as you expect praised the highest courts decision. He also had a message for the justices before they hear arguments in his president ial immunity case next month. I want to start by thanking the Supreme Court for its unanimous decision today. It was a very important decision, very well crafted. And i think it will go a long way towards bringing our country together. You cannot take somebody out of a race because an opponent would like to have it that way. I hope the justices because theyll be working on other cases but one in particular, president s have to be given total immunity. I dont want to be prosecuted because i decided to do something that is very much for the good of the country, and actually for the good of the world. Trump appearing at maralago yesterday and joining us dave aronberg. Lets get your decision, it was telegraphed in the arguments a few weeks ago, this was going to be where they rule. Did you expect it to be unanimous . Give us other impressions . Good morning, im not surprised. The Supreme Court wanted no part of Kicking Trump off the ballot during these heated political times if there was any doubt of that, the Oral Arguments put those to rest. When liberals are skeptical of your arguments you know youre leaving washington d. C. With an l. The court latched onto section five of the 14th Amendment which gives congress the power of the provisions of the article. But the five justices here went further than that. They didnt just rule that states candidate disqualify trump or president ial candidates. They ruled that states cannot disqualify any federal insurrectionist candidate and Gave Congress the exclusive power to implement that section. Theres nothing in section 5 that says that congress and only congress has the power to implement section 3. But the court Gave Congress the most dysfunctional American Institution that kind of power. So now even if a federal candidate engaged in insurrection and was charged and convicted a state couldnt disqualify that candidate. If a Federal Court had the issue they couldnt diskwaul an insurrectionist either short of a law enacted by congress. You know what congress is going to do about all this, jonathan . Nothing. Because thats what they do best. There are some democrats anxious about this. Didnt think this was the right way to defeat trump this year. They felt like they had to do it at the ballot box but trump talked about the idea the Supreme Court is going to hear arguments and make a decision about immunity. That is something that i think everyone is deeply worried about. So dave, give us your sense as to how you expect that will go. I think the court is going to reject the idea of absolute immunity, jonathan. But who knows where they go with the opinion and im concerned about the delays, because justice delayed is justice denied. Whats interesting is the women of the Supreme Court wrote or joined a Concurring Opinion here to share concerns that were ignored by the male justices that the country is fractured and its diminished when the court does more than it needs to. They did not mention the elephant in the room, that is the absolute immunity question. But its hard to ignore the double standard here when the court expedited the decision in this matter to help trump stay on the ballot before Super Tuesday and at the same time dragging their feet on the question of immunity while a case is pending in washington d. C. That could wound trump in his chances of election. So, you know, this is why people have lost faith in this Supreme Court. They continue to demonstrate why we should not expect our democracy to be saved by judges, prosecutors, secretaries of state and not members of congress. Only voters can do that. Its 1. 8 billion euro and 2 billion fine they put forward on apple, saying they tried to corner the market and not allow the likes of spotify to be at play within the european spectrum within the apple devices. This is the biggest mark weve seen in that the European Commission has put on a major tech giant, the likes of apple, of course. They said the maximum requirement would have been 500,000 but they said that would not have made a dent on apple ultimately and needed to ensure that it made sense. In retrospect you look at Something Like this and apple had been warned. But theyre saying they will appeal the decision saying they dont feel its right but compared to the total revenue it is a pal tri sum compared to the mere 120 million that apple had been making the last year or so. As polls show that immigration is rising as an election issue donald trump continues to escalate his recent antiimmigrant rhetoric. Today is Super Tuesday, it should be the moment trump is pivoting to the general and wanting to broaden the tent but thats not what were hearing . Its not. He took another shot at mitt romney, the Mitt Romney Republican is who trump needs to come back to him. Thats who they lost in 2020. Biden lost because of strong turnout of his base but also because that sliver of republicans who voted for trump in 2016 said no way. And now theyre reconsidering thingsreconsidering things, looking at both candidates, and not thrilled with biden, frankly. But when trump pushes them away, thats the voter he needs to he should be able to bring back for 2024. But his rhetoric doesnt allow it. No. One more quick one. We know that the idea of immigration, polls we saw this weekend saying its going to loom large this november. Right now, the issue favors the republicans and trump. President biden, we saw it last week on his trip to the border, pointing the finger at the republicans saying, look, we had tough, bipartisan legislation. You guys, mainly trump, are the ones who blocked it. What should bidens message be at the State Of The Union on immigration . I hope he announces he is taing executive action. The bipartisan deal should have gone through. Donald trump threw a Monkey Wrench into it. Republicans in the house were nonresponsive. But biden needs to show he is doing something. You have a new piece with the headline, trump poised to dominate Super Tuesday as haley makes her last stand. Lets start there with haley. She has throughout this process vowed to stay in through Super Tuesday. Super tuesday has arrived. Shes not expected to win many, if any, contests today. If thats the case, what happens to her next . That is the question. I think there are a lot of people who think, you know, maybe she could drop out pretty soon after this, but she hasnt announced anything. So what are her sources what are her advisors saying in terms of, you know, it is a truism, right, that these campaigns, they stay afloat as long as they have the money to do so. We know some of her big donors have backed away, but does she have enough cash to keep going for a while were she to choose to . That is the interesting thing, right . A number of people have made that point. Usually, the campaign would run out of money at this point, and nikki haley still has donors who, you know, they want to see her fight and sort of carry the banner for that old guard, like reagan wing of the party thats still around, despite the trump takeover, but i just cant imagine what she would gain from going further at this point. What would be the rational if she were to go forward, right . We know that trumps criminal trial, the one in new york, starts in now under three weeks. Is the idea that she could stay around in case something were to happen there or an unexpected event that could derail trump . There is a case for stick around and collect delegates for as long as you can to be the person who can swoop in if something happens, but that is also looking less and less likely. Were seeing that we might not have, you know, a lot of these trials could get delayed until after the election. It is looking less likely trump could have the moment of legal derailment. Youve been writing about how haley, though shes won the one contest in d. C. , shes put up pretty good numbers in others. She pulled in a significant amount of the vote in new hampshire, iowa, particularly south carolina. Talk about the implications for republicans and Donald Trumps success in november. Shell point out her best showing was in new hampshire. She got 43 . Thats not, you know, a tiny minority, is what she says. She says that this is a sign that donald trump has work to do if he wants to win over that part of the party. Particularly, independents and collegeeducated voters. At the same time, it actually looks like the Republican Coalition is more united right now behind trump than the Democratic Coalition is behind biden. Even though biden is cruising in the primary, he kind of in some ways has more to be nervous about right now. Talk more about trump, some of the vulnerabilities that republicans, those who Support Haley and those that dont, see as potential liabilities for the former president in november. Well, they would point to the 91 Felony Charges against him. Theyd point to what he says every day. I mean, this is not someone who is who has the posture of, i am trying to unite the big tent republican party. Every day, he says stuff that alienates a certain group. We discussed with Susan Del Percio how he said he doesnt want the mitt romney or his supporters. Thats the votes you need in what will be a tight, tight election.
