Very first interview since taking the job. Also today, the domino start falling as those trump allies plead guilty and agreed to testify against their codefendants. The law firm of our back to tell us what it means for the case against the codefendant in donald trump. And later, my oneonone conversation with senator Raphael Warnock. I got his view on the war in the middle east, and that high profile legal case playing out in his home state. This week felt like a real Inflection Point in so many ways. Because we are all living in a country grappling with growing threats of antisemitism, islamophobia, and deep, deep divisions over how the United States government should respond to a growing conflict in the middle east. And, meanwhile, we have a Republican Party revealing itself wholly incapable of governing, even amongst themselves. And as we digest all of this and, believe me, this is a lot to digest. I think about something President Biden said in his address to the nation on thursday night. Tonight, there are innocent people all over the world who hope because of us. Who believe in a better life because of us. Who are desperate not to be forgotten by us. And are waiting for us. But time is of the essence. I know we have our divisions at home, we have to get past them. We cant let petty partisan angry politics get in the way of our responsibility as a great nation. We cant let petty partisan angry politics get in the way of our responsibilities as a great nation. Unfortunately, thats kind of whats happening right now. We are seeing small signs of progress when it comes to aid for gaza with the first trucks making their way across the border, maybe more are coming. The House Of Representatives still does not have a speaker. And until they do, they cannot pass any laws, and how katie funding. They cant keep the government open for anything. They cant get aid to israel, they cant give a two crane, their latest candidate, jim jordan, tried and failed three times to secure the gavel. And although he ultimately fell short, his candidacy and how close he came as a result of just how broken our system is right now. This person, jim jordan, he came close to becoming speaker of the house. Second in line for presidency. He still denies the 2020 election was free and fair. Thats where we are. In the number of candidates are not throwing their hats in the ring for the speakership, many, many candidates, almost hard to keep up. Including tom emmer. But his bid maybe over before it takes off, after donald trump says he does not support him. Pointing in part to immerse criticism of him following january 6th. Thats right, the former president of the United States, i know were not surprised, its worth restating, is getting involved in the election for the speaker of the house, because he is mad that leading candidate did not stand on the side of the insurrectionists. That is whats happening. Ultimately, the gop is now back to square one, and will hold a closeddoor candid from tomorrow. Regardless of where this lands, the length of the Pressure Campaign reveal something pretty sinister about the sites of the Republican Party. Because of the last week, as a jim jordan continues to lose his support, his supporters lashed out aggressively. Colorado Congressman Ken Buck received for Death Threats over his refusal to support jordan. Congressman joy ferguson of georgia said he also received Death Threats, and members of his family had become targets as well. He held republicans in a closeddoor meeting that the threats prompted him to dispatch him to his daughters school. His daughters school. And the wife of nebraska congressman don bacon said she started sleeping with a loaded gun after receiving menacing calls and texts. Behind closed doors, an ally of jim jordan framed this as booster to the cost of doing business. Ohio representative warren davis said it wasnt jordans fault that holdouts are getting Death Threats, they were getting the threats because they voted against jordan. Well, that kind of response should be called out for what it is. Normalizing Political Violence. It shouldnt take me is a this. But this behavior is not living up to what President Biden called for in the speech. Holding up our responsibilities as a great nation. Because at the end of the day, while the wars raging in the middle east, and humanitarian crisis is deepening in gaza, the Parting Control of the house of representative is basically eating itself from within. Normalizing the threat of Political Violence to their own members, unable to elect a leader, and unable to be a part in any response to multiple crises across the world. So, if you are President Bidens in the oval office right now facing two wars and a dysfunctional congress, if the try and bring an entire country together when one major party can even bring itself together. Is that all even possible. Joining me now is someone who worked alongside joe biden for decades. Hes been in these rooms, in the oval office, former white house Chief Of Staff and my former boss, ron klain. So, ron, this is why youre elected president why you run for president , but i just summarized a pretty dark situation the world right now. More we do in the middle east, congress paralyzed, you know the president , as well as anyone, youve been in all these rooms. I mean, how is he dealing with these competing challenges behind the scenes right now. I mean, on a personal level as well. Look, i think its a difficult situation. No question. But the president has the experience, and the wisdom, to lead us through this. I was encouraged to see senator mcconnell out this morning on tv, largely embracing the outlines of the package the president sent to capitol hill. And i think thats a sign that we should have good sliding in the senate. You still complete dysfunction in the house, and the house has to get its act together, and constitute the house. And begin to govern. Because, after, all November 17th is coming up. When the government runs out of funding, the president has deployed to groups to the middle east to deter the iranians from escalating in this conflict. It would be a gross unfairness and horrible if we have Men And Women to serve on those ships, and the dangerous part of the world, and tell them theyre not gonna get paychecks because people in washington can get their act together. I want to ask you about, of course congress, well get to that. But sort of these growing tensions about the middle east, and the president giving an awful address on thursday night. He also said something that i thought was pretty interesting the day before, where he basically warns israel, i heard, of not repeating the same mistakes in claims that the United States made after 9 11. You know so well, this is just a warning to israel by the scope of their Military Campaign . Or is it about the potential to overreact to hezbollah, is it both . How did you hear those comments . I think they were wise words from a wise president. I think he is providing the world in the israelis that the u. S. Did things they regret 11 11. The did a lot of things that were good, they did things to combat terrorism. We ultimately brought Osama Bin Laden to justice, under president obama, but we also launched a war and iraq that was needless, that cost too many lives on both sides, and achieved nothing to approve american security. So i think the president is just saying in these times of great stress that you need to be careful about your choices, and understand the consequences of what you are doing. The president has been very clear from the start that the israelis have a right, and obligation to defend themselves. And to combat terrorism, and to combat these hamas evil brutalities. But they also need to respect civilian lives, and it to be careful to do it in a way that does not take any of the civilian deaths. And the president has worked very hard to get humanitarian assistance into gaza, we finally had some progress on it yesterday. Thanks to the president s diplomacy with egypt and israel. And i know our usaid administrator, ambassador sam power, has been on the phone all weekend trying to get other countries to help with the humanitarian crisis in gaza as well. The president s proposed 100 Million Dollars of immediate humanitarian aid. His continued to press that, you know stance for the crisis in gaza. And we talked about Combatting Islamophobia and antisemitism here in our country. Its a difficult time, but we have a wise experienced president leading the way for us here in america. President biden is not new to divisions within the party, you are not new to divisions within the party either. I think none of us are. He is not new to being attacked himself. And senator Chuck Schumer said and called out members of his own party this week have called for ceasefire and are blaming israel for the hospital strike, saying they are taking a hamas position, that is a pretty intense criticism. Some progressive members are also accusing President Biden of writing blank checks to israel, urging him to call for a ceasefire. And how should we be navigating this . Is it even possible to bring everyone together in this moment . I think what the president is doing is the right thing, which is hes focused on promoting National Security of the United States, trying to minimize the loss of innocent life, interest of the u. S. Stand for freedom around the world. And i think thats why the package was sent to congress, to fund the defense of israel, and to help ukrainians get the russians out of their country, and the right thing to do. And the humanitarian aid to gaza, and so the work to get done to join in on equivocally condemning the brutal evil of hamas, and the Terrorist Attack on october 7th. And then, to go on with securing israel, helping the civilians in gaza who are innocent victims and all of this. And making sure we are defending our allies and ukraine as well. I want to turn to the chaos in the House Of Representatives. None of that is new to you either. But youve worked with politics a long time. Youve helped people negotiate deals. If republicans ultimately needed democrats to finalize a speaker, and they may, what should democrats be asking for a return . I raise this because i think people think, oh, theyll elect Akeem Jeffries the speaker. That seems farfetched. What else could they get through this negotiation. I think its important to have a speaker who wasnt dedicated to an insurrection. As we can understands the constitution, even if its someone republicans who disagree with on many policies. I think its also fair for the president s Emergency Aid on the house floor. Measures that help who those support and that democrats should be treated fairly in the house. And the house should go about its business, keeping the government open. As i said at the outset, we have Men And Women serving in the middle east, Military Bases in the region near ships in the region, and the uss carney, which heroically shut down to terrorist missiles this week. Headed towards israel. And astros many women to do their duty, while congress refuses the republican majority in the house, refuses to do its duty. Funding the government is outrageous. So i think, i am not going to negotiate with the democrats, as Leader Jeffries is more than capable of doing that. Its a great leader for our party, and Leader Jeffries and its team will have to go whats possible. Right now, the republicans have rebuffed a fines to buy a bipartisan solution. They are left spinning in their own caucus division. And looking at this for the chaos caucus. And heres what were seeing play out on capitol hill. Before i let you go, i wanted to ask you about the threats against lawmakers. Many that have come out around this speakers race, and those who didnt support jim jordan. It is easy to become numb to this. Do you think this is something the Justice Department should be looking into . Even investigating . Jen, it is my practice not to discuss specific criminal manners of the Justice Departments, or isnt looking into. But what ill say is that, as you said, the normalization of Political Violence in this country has to be completely unacceptable. We have great divisions, we can have great debates, we have elections, but the idea that the outcome of any election, election from the speaker, or any other election, should be respected by violence and threats is an american. And no one should have to fear that their daughters going to school because the way they voted in the speakers race. And so, the threats of violence, threats have been up on capitol hill needs to stop right now. And we need to have a rational conversation about who should be the next speaker, hopefully republicans will reach out to democrats for a bipartisan solutionmaking. But as republicans know doing on their own, they should do an orderly way that is choosing violence, and choosing insurrection. Rian klain, thank, you as always, for your wisdom. Thank you for joining me this afternoon. Coming up, the a trucks that have now made over the border into gaza. Theyve made over, but they are still just a small fraction of what is desperately needed. Someone at the center of these negotiations, President Bidens newly appointed Special Envoy, david satterfield, is standing by to talk about that in an exclusive interview, coming up next. And later, two of the key figures in the Fulton County case plead guilty. We will talk about why their testimony could have big implications for donald trump beyond the case in georgia. Also this hour, part of my conversation with reverend and senator Raphael Warnock. I get his thoughts on the war in the middle east, and the high legal case coming out of his home state. As we all await the start of an Israeli Ground invasion of gaza, the pentagon is starting more miscellaneous aired assistance to the middle east to protect u. S. Troops from escalating attacks by iran, and it comes after we saw two breakthroughs this week. Hamas Freed To American they were turned over to the red cross after officials in Qatar Mediated Negotiations between the u. S. And hamas for their release. You can see them in that photo. And for the First Time Since the war broke out, a convoy of 28 truck successfully entered gaza for the Rafah Crossing yesterday, delivering critical humanitarian aid, including food, water, medicine and medical supplies. Now a second convoy of 17 trucks has assembled on the egyptian side of the border, it is standing by to deliver more. While the steps forward are important and they are hard fought to get here they come as a result of hours and days of difficult negotiations there is still a great deal of work to do. According to new numbers released by israel this morning, 212 hostages are still being held captive by hamas. And up to ten americans are still unaccounted for for the state department. The aid that reached gaza over the last 24 hours its also just a fraction of a law ultimately be needed on an ongoing basis to mitigate the deepening humanitarian crisis. This is all an example of how diplomacy can be slow. It can have many fits and starts. And every single step of progress often requires many hours of negotiation. Joining me now in his first interview since his appointment is someone who has been at the center of these negotiations, Special Envoy for middle east military an issues, david satterfield. He is the former director of the james a Baker Institute for Public Policy at bryce university, and formerly served as u. S. Ambassador to turkey and lebanon. Thank you so much for joining me today. Thank you for your service, and jumping back into what is a very difficult situation on the ground. I just wanted to start by asking you about the convoys of trucks. We saw the first convoy of trucks there are reports about another 17 trucks. What can we expect in terms of the timeline of when they make it through the crossing. Certainly, jen. President biden, when he was here last week, made very clear, were focused on several key issues. One is getting a continuous flow of humanitarian assistance into gaza to meet the legitimate needs of its people, the second is to work to get our american nationals, their families, those who have worked with us in gaza, safely out. Now, we were successful in working with teams in cairo, here in israel, with the United Nations to move at that very first convoy yesterday, 20 trucks. They are an additional 15 trucks on route today, our expectation and substance of our discussion with all sides is that, starting tomorrow, youll be seeing a continuous flow of assistance moving. We want to build that flow up to the levels necessary to begin to meet gazis needs. But, jen, ive got a key point to make here. Which President Biden made quite directly. This is the legitimate needs of the people in gaza. If hamas interferes with, seizes, or diverts assistance, it will as a practical matter, make it very difficult for this assistance to continue, and it will be another demonstration of hamass lack of concern for the welfare of the Palestinian People. I want to ask you for clarity, because this is important people to understand. 15 additional trucks, you expect those to move through tomorrow, it sounds like, is that correct . And then continuous, does that mean a convoy, youre hoping to go through every day . Tonight. Tonight with the 15, and youre hoping to get through convoys regularly . Tonight. I want to ask you just about daily, 15 trucks tonight, and daily convoys through, which would be significant. That is very helpful clarity. I want to ask you just about hamas, and how you prevent, to the degree you can, hamas from getting a hold of this aid. How do you make sure that it goes to the right people. Well, the president s very clear messaging of Secretary Blinken has reflected it as well. All to put hamas on notice. And if it diverts assistance, if it ceases assistance, the assistance is a practical matter is significant if not stops. They are all to the International Support in a common expression of concern for the Palestinian People and against hamas taking such sense. But at the end of the day they will bring on themselves and sadly the people of gaza, the consequences of such actions. I want to ask you about fuel, because they reportedly have concerns about fuel moving through hamas, to be weaponized, of course fuels also very much needed for the hospitals, for clean water, how close are we to seen fuel getting into gaza . Look, we very much understand the Critical Role for these central humanitarian places. But we have to start somewhere. No assistant of any kind of moved into palestine since the beginning of this camp pain following the horrific murders of hamas. We have begun just yesterday moving medicine, medical supplies, food, and feeding assistance, and were gonna continue to make that the focus in the media future. How concerned are you with this and front and center on on the access of accessibility to clean water on the ground. That is been reported as a big, dire situation. It is, indeed, jen. And we have been working with the israeli government, with respect to the restoration of flow, for two key pipeline. Its one of those pipelines was indeed restored. We are working with the status on the other. The other question i have, you are doing this in very difficult circumstances, just to restate. There is a likelihood, or possibility of the Ground Invasion. Will that make the delivery of a possible, or how will that change with a Ground Invasion . We will have as robust a capacity to deliver needed assistance through the Rafah Crossing, to the southern communities of gaza as we can. Any decision by the Israeli Military that involves the north will of course have an impact, which is why we are focusing on addressing the very significantly increased population on the south of the gaza strip. There were two american hostages freed, that is obviously a big development. Theyre of course more being held, but there are also hundreds of americans who are now trying to get out through the Rafah Crossing. Are you encouraged, or should we be encouraged that that is coming soon given that there has been aid flowing in . Whats your expectation beyond the timeline there . Our expectation is that all foreign nationals, including the almost 1000 americans, those with family, the staff who work for us, for our mission in gaza, will indeed be able to depart as rapidly as possible. Nothing is simple, the issue of movement for Rafah Out Of Gaza is as complicated as the movement of humanitarian assistance in. But you are quite right, that the opening for the crossing of assistance to head of the people of gaza was an essential, critical First Step Towards what we want to achieve, what the president wants to achieve, which is getting our people out to safety. Last week, National Security advisor Jake Sullivan said it was hamas being able to keep people from depart. Is it primarily hamas, is it hamas . Who is preventing people from leaving . . The answer is very simple. It is hamas, full stop. Bergeron you have spent several days in egypt as a party or world wintour over the past couple weeks, it seems that they are free taken Palestinian Refugees because of concern hamas might move with them. Weve seen this happen in the past. Is the acceptance of refugees, is that a part of the world coming. Is that someone who could help in the near future . Jen, i have not yet been to cairo. We are coming up next week. I can answer the question. For a matter of that definition as a part of this, it rejects the idea of palestinian, refugees, or palestinian supplement on their soil in the senate. This is a longstanding point, i see absolutely no change, no change possible. The people of gaza need to be able to live secure lives in gaza, and that requires an end to hamass ability to govern, to exploit, and to dominate with their terror. David satterfield, you have a very difficult job, youve had many difficult jobs in the past, thank you for your service, and thank you so much for joining me this afternoon. Up next, she promised to release the kraken, but all she delivered work rack pot theories. Sydney powell becomes the first major player in the Fulton County case to plead guilty. But if you have gone all out the way lawyer Sydney Powell did. President trump won this election in a landslide. It is going to be irrefutable. And im going to release the kraken. Landslide. And now is one of 19 defendants in georgias election interference case, Sydney Powell has led the way again. How do you plead to the six counts of conspiracy to commit intentional interference with performance of Election Duties . Guilty. Man. What a difference a few years in the threat of jail time can make. This, week tell the came the first trump lawyer in the case to take a plea deal that are coming from to prison. Instead, she served probation, pale most 9,000 in fines and restitution, and write an Apology Letter to the citizens of georgia. She agreed to, quote, truthfully testified all hearings in proceedings and trials involving the codefendants. One of whom is of course, donald trump. She never released the kraken, it turns out. But she may be opening the floodgates, because, just today after powell put out, codefendant Kenneth Chesebro brought Jury Selection in his trial to a halt with a surprise announcement. How do you plead to count a 15, conspiracy to commit filing false documents and indictment number 23 s c 188947 . Guilty. Chesbrough took a similar deal to powell to get out of jail time. Im not a lawyer, as i often say, but it seems like for trying to overturn an election and you got caught, enough serves on probation, pay some fees, rain apology, seems like a pretty good deal. The question now is, can often return, what are, they what they see . Who better to ask than neil caught cnn joe weisman, and inhouse law form who joins me after a very quick break. They are back. They are back. Unentered sick time . Unnecessary go unnecessary go unnecessary when you can take this phone, youll be ready. Make the unnecessary, unnecessary. Solicitor, into weisman is the former General Counsel of the fbi, and was the prosecutor for Special Counsel robert mueller. I think msnbc viewers know you both quite well. So, andrew, i want to start with you i heard you say the plea from kenneth georges potentially far more significant than the Sydney Powell play, which might be surprising to people. So why is that . Theres no question that both are significant in terms of what they signal, in terms of, youve got fraud in the election which was perpetrated by donald trump and his allies. You have Kenneth Chesebro saying that, in fact, the whole architecture of this scheme of fake electors was a crime that. So all of that is significant and you have Sydney Powell saying that she illegally helped break into the county global machines. But there is spectrum of the defendant, donald trump. That is, where i think, there is a difference. Because that is we dont know what both them will say Going Forward. I tend to be relatively pessimistic that they are fully cooperating. We just dont know that yet, but they are fully cooperating. But if any of them is really going to be sort of forced to have to Say Something that could implicate rudy giuliani, john eastman, and at least indirectly donald trump, i think is mr. Chaz burrow. Because he pled to the fake elector scheme, and that is so core to what happened on january 6th and the lead up to january six. So i think thats why it his guilty plea is sort of essential there and potentially more important with respect to proving Donald Trumps criminal liability. Neil, trumps legal team is downplaying all of this, no surprise. But these two had a lot of access. Andrew referenced some of it. And you are familiar with where they were in different times, if the prosecutors, what is most valuable to them, what they want most from these two places . First of, all i think its hard to distinguish between who was more important than who, it is kind of like asking whether the height or the width of a square is more relevant to those square. I mean, both are enormously significant, and both are of course trump attorneys. They are not attorneys like andrew or me. These are a, Maga Trump Attorneys who are saying, yes, i did it. And i am willing to enter into a deal over this. I think both of them will have a testimony that is relative to trump. Sydney powell directly, because season the room, including on december 18th, when trump tried to make her Special Counsel of all things over the january 6th election. And already a little more optimistic than andrew about this testimony. And the thing that is most important to me is that both of these plea deals required powell in chaz borough agreeing to be interviewed before the deal actually went through, City Palantir on videotape, im not sure if was on or not. If it means the testimony has already been, but fani willis agreed to a no jail term for both these people after seeing that testimony. To me, all of that says this is a significant testimony. It implicates trump directly, i think probably in the case of Sydney Powell, and with can chesbrough showing that donald trump doesnt have some chaz burrow, also are unindicted coconspirators, intern Special Counsel jack smiths federal prosecution over trumps efforts to overturn the election. How will this relate to that . Have these guilty pleas effect that case or do that . That is such an excellent question. Because one of the unusual things here is that you have people who have accepted responsibility with respect to crimes in state court, in georgia. But there is no agreement with respect to the federal case, where they are reported to be unindicted coconspirators, and they are listed in the indictment as unindicted coconspirators. That is one of the reasons i think im a little bit more pessimistic than neil. Is that i think it is unlikely that they would be admitting crimes that they could essentially be sitting ducks for, at the federal level. But because jack smith is out there, and you can still charge them. And they clearly have not reached an agreement. So everything that chesbrough and powell says in state court Going Forward can be used against them in federal court, where they still face liability in connection to their role in the january 6th case. So that interplay is one that we dont really have any insight to, and it is very unusual that you dont have these people taking sort of global plate, in other words, resolving their state and federal liability. One reason for that could be that the federal government was not willing to say that we are willing to give you no jail time given the significant crimes that they have now admitted to. Neil katyal, andrew weissmann, thank you both, as always. We will look forward to having you back. And up next, my conversation with senator Raphael Warnock about these challenging times we find ourselves in. Weiss says its important that american stand up in this moment. Moment. As the world watches whats happening in the middle east, one of them is the Senior Pastor of one of these countries most historic churches, who also happens to be a u. S. Senator. Long before the Terrorist Attack on israel, and the ensuing war, i plan to spend a day on the road in georgia with senator Raphael Warnock. And of being a much different conversation than the one i expected to have. During our conversation, we talked about how this conflicts impacting communities here at home. It all brings a parameter of the amount of antisemitism weve seen across our country. And i know youve been outspoken about it and work to the number of inter faith leaders yourself. How important in this moment is it for faith leaders to speak out about antisemitism and really make that a priority. We have to speak out against antisemitism, we have to speak out against hatred and bigotry. Wherever it rears its ugly head. Dr. King said it best, injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. I believe that in my core, and in my heart. And so, im gonna be doing everything i can to urge us, even in the midst of this pain, and chaos, never to turn our backs on the prospects of peace. We cannot afford to give up on peace. Weve got to respond in the short term to the conditions on the ground, and i can only imagine the agony that families are feeling with their loved ones being held as hostages. So we have to Pay Attention to that, and it is a reminder of the importance of American Leadership on the global stage. And it is the reason why i am so very concerned about the chaos, the politics of brinkmanship that we are seeing in washington. We are seeing in realtime that when politicians centered themselves, rather than the National Interest and the people that they were sent to serve, it has implications, not only for our economy, it has National Security implications. The World Needs American to stand up and be americas moment. And not to politicize what is clearly a tragedy. You talked about this a little bit, from listening on this, it sounds like we touched on this. Youve strongly condemned, of course, as everyone should, the Terrorist Attack and the impact on the people of israel. They are also thousands of palestinians who have who are not like to hamas, who could lose their lives, who are at risk of losing their lives. There is a risk here of palestinians around the world being having hatred geared at them. How should we think about that or talk about that in this moment . Yeah. I think we have to be very focused on it. I think that but justice and Human Dignity provides the necessary framework for peace. And, what i dont want to see is some 15 year old boy in gaza deciding that hamas is the way. So i think, if we want a sustainable peace, we have to think about children on both sides of this conflict. Here is one thing that all of us have in common. None of us got to decide where we would be born in the world. We just showed up. And as a pastor, i am always urging us to see each others children, that is another thing we have in common. I think all of us love our children. And the policy that we would put forward is related to our children, and weve got to be thinking, whether were talking about National Security, or talking about the sustainability of democracy in our own country, we ought to be asking ourselves what we want that letter to say. I do want to ask you, just about a couple things i feel conflicting to me about our democratic system. Such a huge, important issue. I mean, there were a number of republican elected leaders in your state who of course spoke, out pushed back, in the days after the 2020 election. To the actions of donald trump. What did you make of that, as you read that indictment . It did lead to the indictment, did it surprise you that these leaders spoke out, does it Say Something about the state . Look. I think that we are witnessing an all out assault on our democracy. And all of us ought to be clear in our outrage, in our rejection, of these antidemocratic efforts that we are seeing all across our country. The lies that were told by the previous president have consequences. We have seen them right here in georgia with ordinary, every day Election Workers whove been intimidated, harassed, and literally had their lives turned upside down. Are you worried, and obviously ruby and shaye, theres so many more like them, and their stories so inspiring, disheartening at the same time. Are you worried that Election Workers are going to be too scared to work in the next election. Were seeing data were Hearing Reports of Election Workers who are saying i dont think ill continue to do this. Yeah. What a sad commentary, what a moment. Its the reason why i remain focused on this issue we have a lot of issues that confront us as elected leaders. But for me, democracy is not just another issue along side other issues. Its the very framework in which we get to fight. And we have to make sure that we strengthen the democracy we have to reject those voices that are trying to tear us apart. The arsonists that want to burn down the house of democracy. Theres obviously a big case thats coming up in Fulton County. Its ongoing, of course. Im not gonna ask you to predict anything there. But the outcome of that, as a uniter which i think you definitely are, the outcome of that could be the conviction of donald trump. And it could be jail time for donald trump. Do you think he should serve jail time if hes convicted . I believe in equal protection under the law. I believe that noah buddy is above the law. Nobody. And donald trump deserves his day in court before a jury of his peers, and in this case, these will be the people of georgia, who i am deeply honored to serve. But do you think if hes convicted i asked this question because there are different schools of thought, if you put a former president in jail, despite all of the things that he did, that would be a divisive move for the country . There are other things that could happen. He could be in maralago. He could be under house confinement. Do you think there is an approach that would be better for the country moving forward . Given that there also is a lot of people who had very much like to see him in jail. First of all, let me just say that i do believe in equal protection under the law. Donald trump, even in the midst of all the things weve heard with him on tape saying, can you find me a few more votes . Hes innocent until proven guilty. So i dont want to get ahead of that process. I respect the judicial process. But, i do think that it is a test of the maturity of a democracy, to see whether or not we live up to the principles that we hold up.
