The, air with Israeli Forces continuing to strike gaza today in retaliation for the massacre of civilians. Hamas carried out across the border in israel on saturday. The death toll from that massacre now stands at over 1200 people. The idf says they have carried out strikes against nearly 2700 targets across the gaza strip and have the interests Chief Of Staff said it was not on an unprecedented scale because what happened here is something that was never happened before. And it elevates beach Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised, quote, every member of hamas is a dead man. Netanyahu will all be joined by members of the Opposition Party in an emergency unity government, with a newly formed war cabinet. This comes amid the mobilization of hundreds of thousands of israeli troops, many of whom have been sent to bolster the southern border with gaza. The army says they are still battling isolated hamas Militants Hiding in the south, although they have secured the border. Concerns about a second front opening in the war heightened today is sirens blared across the north, warning of uninterrupted into israeli airspace [sirens] from lebanon, the site of hezbollah, the militant group. But they say that was a false alarm. Rockets launched from gaza did hit from the Southern City of ashkelon once again, sending residents running over and damaging a medical center. Amid the massive Israeli Military response more stories are emerging about the horror of what was the worst massacre of jewish people since the holocaust. One Small Community of more than 100 people were killed. A survivor described how he tried to defend his home. I saw a group trying to enter my front yard. I had to engage them. I opened fire. They replied with a burst of fire in my house. I dont know how and why, but they decided to go away and not proceed and fight me. The amount of, a lot of my best friends died. I hope that we can heal. And that we will get all of our friends back from my gaza. That were taken and we want them back. Israeli government believes as many as 150 people have been taken hostage in gaza, including women and children, as this father told us. My son was kidnapped, it will be 16 years old in two weeks. The terrorist entered my divorcees house and open the childrens door and then they took my son and the diversity in my two little girls and they took them out and they brought another family into the shelter as well, into hostage. And what took the three, my boy, and the familys father and another boy into a black car and they drove away. We dont know where they are now. I am hopeful they will come back. Im not willing to consider any other option. Hamas has threatened to execute hostages if israel does not stop striking gazans in their homes. Families are desperately pleading for the lives of their loved ones. I would say to the hamas, i want my daughter and i want them back. I beg of every official there, think of them as if they are your daughter and your granddaughter. How would you feel if it happened to them . Thats all. I am only a mother, a grandmother. The israeli Barrage On Gaza shows no signs of slowing down, according to the Palestinian Health ministry 101 with hours of 100 people have died. Over 1000 are injured. As urgent describe the devastation he saw flying into the largest hospital in gaza city. A number of wounded has not stopped. As you probably heard in the background, the bombing still gulag around the hospital. More and more children are being brought in and i have just been operating on children since i last spoke to you. The kids who have been taken out of their own home. What this is a complete siege, cut off from electricity, from water, food, and fuel supplies. Today guises Energy Ministry said the regions only Power Station ran out of fuel and medical services may not be able to hold out much longer. My feeling is the Palestinian Health system as the rest of the week before it collapses, not just because of the diesel. All supplies are running short. The number of wounded has completely stopped what was already a denuded system in a Cripple System as a result of 15 years of siege. The people of gaza are also blocked from leaving. United nations says that more than 260,000 people have already fled their homes in gaza, but there is little place for them to go. All land exits are closed and the border in egypt is refusing to allow gazis to enter its territory. United states is working with egypt and israel to establish a humanitarian corridor, according to National Security spokesman john kirk. Supplying military aid to israel, as well as an Aircraft Carrier carrier to the region as a deterrent. Biden has remained steadfast in his support of israel, calling it on shakeable in a speech to Jewish Community leaders in the white house this afternoon. He spoke emotionally about the threat of antisemitism and taking his children and grandchildren to see a concentration camp. I took my kids, everyone, when they turn 14 years old, one at a time, took him in a plane and took them to dachau. I wanted them to see, so they could not not know what was going on. Walking through those gates. You could not fail to understand, as a country, what was going on. That is a fact. I truly believe without israel, no jew in the world will be safe. Its the only ultimate guarantee. Ali velshi has reported extensively from war zones, he has travel around Israel Reporting on the hamas attack. He joins me live from tel aviv. Ali, what have you been reporting on today . A couple of things. You just play that clip of the president. I literally, every israeli who sees us and asks what, when im in the south, where i am, during the day, ive got a press vest on and they see the cameras and they stop and ask where are you from, where from the united states, msnbc news, almost everybody has commented on joe biden and his support, how strengthened and enthused a r by that. However, the reality is that there are still hostages in gaza, and i spoke today to somebody who lived on a kibbutz right next to gaza. He heard shooting at 6 30 in the morning. He heard a siren, but he said would you live in the south of israel use hear these sirens. Gaza, its regularly hamas Sands Rockets every now and then. But he heard shooting. He had been in the army. He understood with that sound was. He gathered everyone, went down into their bunker. They keep their arms there. There were no soldiers around, so he and seven of his buddies, his fellow guys from the kibbutz went to the back gate of the kibbutz and the saudis hamas invaders there. This is what you told me happened next. I gave the communication and i said, everybody, listen, theyre killing our guys, and they will go straight to the kibbutz. No one is coming through. When you see nobody is coming through . Do not let them . Through no. Only. Eight eight guys standing up against dozens of people . So nobody got in . You everyone that came in i kill him. How many people did you shoot . I think two guys. And the others were also killing from the front of the gate. How many in total, do you think . There were 60 guys over and i think about four or five, or six, i didnt they werent giving notes . No. He, when i asked him how he thinks this ends, he said i want gaza flattened from one end to the other. I want those people to go to their friends in iran in egypt. I think that sentiment has been expressed by a lot of people, even in government in the u. S. Government. I want to ask about the hostages and the latest today on that. Obviously we have played clips of Family Members of those hostages. And it seems to me that it would complicate the calculation year. Given the fact that theres 150 Israeli Citizens who are believed to be in gaza. And im curious what you have heard today and what the discussion has sounded like today. Well, heres the problem. When you talk to the gentleman i just talked to, a lot of israel shares his view, that they should go, and decapitate hamas, dismantle. It there are all sorts of words that are used about what the Israeli Government wants to do. When you listen to president netanyahu, Prime Minister netanyahu and officials, they say the same things. The families of the hostages are saying the same thing. Theyre saying put that aside for the moment. Thats the secondary goal. The primary goal is getting our people out. Where i was in ashdod a little earlier, thats where they are amassing all these soldiers, threatening a ground war. We dont know if the groundwork is going to happen, or if this is a show of force to tell hamas, that the hostages go or we are coming in. But they are amassing. Its why we couldnt get as close to the border as we isnt organization would have been able to yesterday. They are pulling us back because they are bringing their soldiers in. They want those hostages out. The families won the hostages out. And theyve said, by the way, if you have to negotiate with hamas, which is generally something thats not as accepted in israel, if you have to negotiate with hamas, do that first, deal with hamas and the government of gaza afterwards. Final question for you about that military mobilization. Of course it is happening. This is the man you talk to, a veteran of the ivf, a universal Service Society with the exception of some religious men who are exempted. But essentially near universal. And now mass calls to reserves. I saw videos of pac12 flights of people going back to israel to. Services side preparing for a Total War Footing in a way that i think for americans may not quite understand what that looks like in a society where the army is as will fit into societys it is there. Exactly. First of all, theres compulsory army service, so everywhere you go you see these. And by the, way the Compulsory Service is generally when youre quite young. Most of the soldiers you see on the street are quite young. Some become Career Officers or career soldiers, but most of them find their compulsory time in their. Theyve called these people up, theyre all over the world, some of these are dual citizens, they live in canada and the u. S. Many commercial break flights israel or canceled. They sent these lol planes. They brought people in. Theyve lifted almost all restrictions on justices owning firearms. There are some minor restrictions on criminal activity or things like that, were generally speaking anyone who needs a gun will have a gun, and everybody is ready to be called. I spoke to people who are well beyond the age of army Service Today who said i will be called up now and die for my country if i need to be. But everybody also warned that going into gaza is going to be very complicated. Weve heard every analogy there is to urban street warfare, and thats the worry, this is not gonna be an easy operation. This is not airstrikes. You go into gaza, its absolute war. Inter in that israelis might not be as familiar with as they thought they, where because they can only see it from the top. All of that is still going on and then youve got all the stuff that you talked about in gaza, which is fast becoming a humanitarian disaster tonight is the fuel and electricity ran out. They are running short of food. The running short of freshwater, and they are entirely out of fuel to power their electricity. So, chris, every time i talk to you, the situation is worse than the last time it out to you. Well be talking to someone from gaza tonight with the situation is dire. Well get more dire for the 2 Million People that call that home. Final question for you. And i guess theres no way to articulate this, but the closest analog ethic we have in the states as 9 11 the aftermath of that, the feeling of profound grief and shock. There are 1200 death toll. It would be ten times the Casualty Numbers of 9 11 in a certain population basis. And people i have talked to her last today say everyone is one note away. I have to imagine that sense of warning must still be the pervasive mood in the country. Im actually going to see a florist tomorrow who makes Flow Arrangements for funerals, and they cant keep up. So volunteers are now going there to make those funeral arrangements. In the jewish faith you are meant to be buried within 24 hours of death. That obviously hasnt been able to happen because somebodys havent been recovered yet. That sense of warning is pervasive. The one difference, as horrible as 9 11 wise, the deaths were largely collective. The distinction here is the videos that are coming out and the barbaric acts that were performed, the very personal nature that hey, you might not like us, but youre not going to kill the children, right . Youre not gonna take the women hostages and rape them. And that has changed the psyche. Videos keep coming out. They keep getting released, and theres more videos coming out. Apparently theyre videographers with the terrorists who came in. So that affects the psyche as well. Its not just an attack. They have a tax all the time. Its not just a rocket that comes from someone faceless. We just got an eerie silence iryna. I will leave that to. You are right, ali velshi, stay safe, and thank you for reporting. Coming up, its like the world is collapsing as israel continues its counteroffensive against hamas. We will go inside gaza about the deteriorating humanitarian situation, ahead. Briefly gaveled into session today but is still unable to take any meaningful action on the war between israel and hamas. Thats because House Republicans still have not chosen a new speaker of the house, more than a week after they fired the last guy. Honestly, theyre not any closer to resolution than they were a week ago. Today, in a closeddoor Secret Ballot Vote, the House Republican conference chose louisiana congressman Steve Scalise as their next boss. Scalise beat Donald Trumps handpicked choice, congressman jim jordan of ohio, 30 to 19. But if you thought that was the end of the fractured fight for the speakers gavel, you have not met the current House Republican majority. They were supposed to be a formal vote to elevate scalise to the speakership six hours ago. That didnt happen because it turns out he still doesnt have the votes. Even though jim jordan, the guy he is running against, and matt gaetz, the guy that led the drive to Fire Mccarthy in the first place, both back him, in a perfect encapsulation of republican dysfunction, we heard from two republicans who refused to vote for him, nancy mace of south carolina, who once proudly touted scalises endorsement to couple of years ago and now claims hes too extreme. What about scalise . I dont know. I will say, the status quo is not my i personally cannot in good Conscience Vote for someone who attended a White Supremacist conference and compared himself to david duke. Michael steele is a formal what his latest piece is titled scalise brings a fresh face but a similar Policy Vision as mccarthy, republicans say. They join me. Now so, lets just talk about what went down today. Youve got a vote behind closed doors. How does that vote work . I think its a Secret Ballot Vote, right . Thats right, chris. Its a Secret Ballot Vote and Steve Scalise, status majority leader, natural successor to Kevin Mccarthy, beat out jim jordan, the rightwing firebrand, the chairman of the judiciary committee, who at least in public endorsements heading into this, seemed to have an s an edge, but scalise it turned out had most of the silent members, the ones who dont go on tv as, much wonders popular and conservative media. They preferred scalise. Now scalise has to figure out how to get to 217 votes. Hes got his own rubiks cube here. Mccarthy had trouble corraling majority of the republican conference, or other every member as you need to do every day to keep the job. Scalise has got diverted equally challenging equation on his hands right now. Michael, one saying that is notable to me, we had this happened with liz cheney. Liz cheney, a Secret Ballot to expel her from leadership. She won that. And then there was a recorded vote and she lost that, after donald trump. And i just thought it was, its worth noting that donald trump threw his weight behind jim jordan endorsed him, and in a Secret Ballot, they did not go with Donald Trumps suggestion, which i think is pretty interesting. Well, it tells you how afraid they are of donald trump, and more importantly, his base, who, obviously, are not happy with this. Steve scalise has more than a numbers problem, in my estimation. He still has a policy problem. He has a do i partner with joe biden to pay the nations bills problem. How do i help fight against hamas and stand with israel of the same time and try to ignore Ukraine Problem . So there are a lot of other aspects to this, to the great reporting over the last couple of weeks about how these narratives are starting to unfold. The backstory drama, chris, is not the who is the head in the horse race for speaker, for but the question i hear from a lot of republican is, what zion hell do we do when we get the job . The bases have them boxed in. That gets thrown important saying. One of the things in covering the story in the back and forth on it is there an ask. Is there a demonstrable ask . A difference and jack smith wasnt gonna happen. One of the most we dont like these continuing resolutions to fund the government. We want to go through a regular order appropriations process. We want these dramatic cats that are below the level that we are negotiating with biden in the deal. So heres my question for you. My understanding is that jordan and scalise both came before the conference and said were gonna have to do a csr. Continuing resolution. There is already a concession that the whole thing that this was ostensibly about, isnt happening. Thats right, chris. It is a jumble. 96 of the republican conference supported killing mccarthy, and among them was Steve Scalise and jim jordan. This both spoke here urging the eighth rebels not to evade Kevin Mccarthy. But they didnt listen. And now even situation where Steve Scalise is, yes he is winning over some of those rebels who voted to remove Kevin Mccarthy, including matt gaetz, and tim burchett. But he has his own problems in other areas. There are some members who have flipped from a Yes On Mccarthy Two and oh on scalise. That includes Marjorie Taylor greene and lauren boebert. They made their peace with the mccarthys speakership. They both said theyre not ready to support Steve Scalise for speaker. Then you have nancy mace and bob bud, who are still a no on mccarthy no on scalise. No consistent ask. Theres no one thing scalise needs to do. A lot of the members are withholding to a conservative base that wants him to do magic, to make a Democratic Senate and democratic president except very conservative bills that they narrow Republican House might passed. Democrats are never going. Two House Colleagues resolve that, its unclear. Most republicans i spoke to today say he shares a governing vision, the same as what kathy. It did not that different aisle policy. But the one area where he might have a leg up, chris, is that he doesnt have the same Personality Clashes and feuds with people like matt gaetz and Kevin Mccarthy does. That is, if anything, his ace on the hole right now. The other part of this, theres no actual consistent caucus here, even a Governing Project that unites everyone, which i think is actually the problem part of this, michael. The narrow majority means that its been demonstrated you can extract some concessions, you can extract fundraising, or tv, hits or whatever it is, at the margin. So when youve got chip roy, nancy mace, and who knows who else, there are a few others today, but i thought this was interesting from can back, who has emerged as a very interesting figure in this caucus. He said he asked jordan and scalise yesterday the flat out question, basically, who won the 2020 election . I want to play you what he had to say. Take a listen. I asked last night, will you unequivocally and publicly state that the election, that the 2020 president ial election was not stolen . He didnt answer that question very clearly. And jim jordan answer that question very clearly. I thought it was pretty interesting. There was an interview with my colleague. I think it was a worthwhile exercise. If people are holding out for the votes, good on the eye can bark. If thats what you can extract. Its not a question of extracting. Its a question of putting it in front of the body, and look at what were going go to the public with. I cant get inside the room get you to say yeah, it was stolen or no it wasnt stolen. What do you think the press is gonna do when you get out in public . What does the public . Say thats the problem. You put your finger an important strain. Here its governing. The word governing. Its having, not just having a majority, its having a majority that can govern. At the end of the day you can be opposition all day long. You can scream and shout of the rafters all day long. But at some point the nation has got to pay its bills. At some point the nation is gonna need a budget to pay the bills for next year. At some point your allies are going to say, hey, can you help a brother or sister out. And you gotta be prepared to do that. And in fact there is going to be a fairly pressing things moving on, most likely, israel and ukraine, which is going to ratchet up the pressure. Michael false has been saying that as well. What is the status now . We were gonna have this, they were gonna take the conference vote, everyones gonna come together, and were going to elect a speaker today. Now were in recess. We have Patrick Mchenry who is no Constitutional Authority other than occupying the chair while we wait for a speaker to be elected. So what happens now . We dont know yet, chris. There are no updates. The hose is still frozen. And june for the day. Theyre back tomorrow at noon. We dont even ever gonna have a vote tomorrow. They havent scheduled it. Its simple. Theyre gonna vote once Steve Scalise has 117 votes out of 221. We dont know how long that will. Be the destroying sad sentiment among the republicans is that they shouldnt go to the floor of the house until they have the vote for speaker. Put themselves and our country through that humiliation of 15 ballots doesnt serve anyone. This ultimately does cobiella to Steve Scalise, republicans say, in terms of when to call that vote. Only he can decide when the numbers are there, and only he can tell them, okay, lets go to the floor, ive got it. Sal poor and michael steele, thank you very much. Reuters ror that border with egypt remains shut on friday morning after egyptian planes conducted flights overnight, Security Sources said. As we noted last night, the gaza strip is one of the most densely populated places on earth, an area the size of philadelphia, with the Population Density of london. The Israeli Government has protocols in place to call cell phones in gaza, warning the building there in will be bombed within minutes. But there is really only so much good that can do when there is nowhere to run. This is what the gaza skyline looks like after the sole power plant ran out of fuel. Please, my family, theyre just kids. What [sound of gunfire] we are not strangers to war. Its hard to find the words. It feels like the world is collapsing. That report was from use of hamas, one of many very courageous journalists in gaza who is still in gaza where it is very late. He wanted to join us by phone, Understanding Gaza have little to no power we could manage to connect with him. We hope to be able to talk with him soon. And now israel is preparing for a Ground Invasion of gaza, is nbc for correspondent Richard Engel find out in southern israel today, massive preparations are already underway. Israel brought enough tanks and armored for a full scale ground war and is now mobilizing more than 360,000 reservists called up for national service. A new phase of this conflict is about to begin. And it will be many casualties. Even as the Israeli Military goes into gaza, hamas is still firing rockets into israel for nbc news correspondent, they watched in some of those rockets were intercepted by israels iron dome defense system. Rockets have just been fired over ashkelon, you hear the booms as they have intercepted overhead. There goes to more of them. We were headed in this direction, closer towards the border with gaza, we were told we couldnt go past the checkpoint her film any more of that and now you hear right now the succession of booms, of rockets being fired over the city of ashkelon, which is just over there. Now you see a plume of smoke in the direction. 20 miles to the south, sanchez saw firsthand the devastation caused by hamas militants in one small village three miles from the gaza border. The scenes of destruction here are just staggering, the Israeli Military says 40 hostages were held in this house, six soldiers were killed trying to liberate them, and ultimately you can see the house completely burned out. It is hard to overstate the scale of the destruction in here, just so much horror, concentrated in one place, and the smell of death is overwhelming. This c is a sign that this place has been cleared of any possible booby traps and explosive. So we are good to go in. The Israeli Military says that in this house, the Israeli Residents had barricaded themselves into a safe room, the Hamas Terrorists were not able to get them so they set the whole house on fire. When we come back, how one Family Living in another small managed to escape hamas. That incredible story, next. Ble story, next. And im alarmed, as you may be, by the intrusions of religion into our secular government. Thats why im asking you to join the freedom from Religion Foundation, the nations largest and most effective association of atheists and agnostics working to keep state and church separate, just like our founders intended. Please join the freedom from Religion Foundation today. Ron reagan, lifelong atheist, not afraid of burning in hell. At first i am hearing this goli, taste your goals. Freedom from Religion Foundation today. Gunfire from the field, but then i hear it from the world, and then i hear it from the neighborhood, then i hear it outside my window. Then i hear shouting, and i understand, i understand exactly what is happening. I basically understood that hamas has infiltrated, there are terrorists outside my window. And i am walking my house, and inside of my safe room, with two young girls. And i dont know if anyone is going to save us. One of those gripping accounts about what happened in israel over the weekend and it just stuck with me. I cant Stop Thinkingabout the reporter from the israeli newspaper. His name is amir, and he lives with his family near the gaza border and he spoke to the atlantic, to tell him the story about how the attacks unfolded and how they managed to improbably walk away with their lives, and here he is. It is good to have you here. A grueling account. Take me through what he told you about how this unfolded. Yeah. As you said, i am right near the gaza border. A few football fields. And there are so close to the gaza border that they will it will be useless. And so instead, every home has a safe room. Which is not what you are thinking is a fancy room, it is just a reinforced concrete room, you put the kids and the sleeve, and if you hear rockets as the parents, you run into the safe room. And this is because the way that the iron dome works, the trajectory, it is too close for it to work . That is how close they are. So, what actually saved their lives, ironically, is that they fired at the village, before they invade with on foot. The hear the sound of the mortar, they think okay, it is another rocket attack. The kids are sleeping in the safe room, we will run into the safe room and waited out like we usually do, then as soon as there was a lull, we will pick up and go. And they are starting to pack in the safe room, getting ready to do that, and then as you heard, then he hears gunfire that they never hear. That shouldnt be there. And it gets closer and closer, and i am hearing, as a reporter, he speaks arabic. He wrote a biography of the palestinian president and he knows what is going on, which is that they are literally on a group text with the other families and everyone is like, there are terrorists inside of my house. And so he texts, you know, his colleague who has eight military affairs correspondent, and he says this is going on in my house. And his colleague writes back and says, yes, i know in your house, but they are actually and not just everybodys houses, they are in all of the communities. And that is when a mirror got very, very frightened. Because then he realized, the army could dispatch someone, maybe like an infiltration. Like the entire border, there is no way they can get to us. This sort of palpable sense that comes through here, which is shock of the scale of the infiltration. And just also a sense that this sort of reliance and faith in the government, that the army would be nearby, and the realization that it is not. That it is, at the moment, overwhelmed and not there. And the psychology of calling his father, who was a retired general. He texted his colleague and texted his father and told him what is going on. They say they are in tel aviv, and they are 20 minutes away by car, and they say work on it. In their 60s. And they just get on the road. And his father is a retired general, and he only has a pistol, but it does not in fact hand out guns to everybody. Including retired service members, but he has a pistol and he starts making his way there. And as the story goes, they keep encountering survivors, ambushes, all of these things. They go through the Music Festival . They pick up people who are walking aware barefoot from the Music Festival and they take them to safety, so they dont just keep going straight. What i find really remarkable, is that if it was mike, and maybe i would just keep going straight. You know . The people are alive, they will be okay, or Something Like that. But every single person, every soldier, these refugees, people that are injured that are still alive, and they keep taking them to safety. It takes people to the hospital, so they eventually get to this place where his quarters are. And he bumps into another Retired Israeli general who also just showed up because nobody else was there. And he had a civilian car. It is not a jeep, its not armor, nothing like that. It is just like a normal credit drive to work, and take it on the road and they just drive together. They just meet up with Special Forces who are appearing to go house to house which is the most dangerous thing you could do in counterterrorism, you know, trying to get people out. And they wake up, and as a marital said, they can tell that something is going on, because now there is more gunfire but there are two kinds of guns. Theres a battle. You know it is getting closer, and closer to them. Then, they hear his fathers voice and his daughter says, granddaughter is here . Right . They know they are safe. I will read to you, just hearing the gunfire getting closer, and closer. The girls have fallen asleep another woken up. It has two pm. There is no light, we dont have cell phone sunny more, so we can even show their faces. And there is one sentence or says keeping them from falling apart and starting to cry. Im telling them, grandfather is coming. I tell them that if we stay quiet, grandfather will come and get us out of here and at four pm, after ten hours like this, we hear a long bang on the window. We hear the voice m father, or oldest daughter says grandfathers here. And that is when we all just start crying. And that is when we knew we were safe. He has very strong thoughts about the security failure. This is obviously someone whos a journalist, he is a learning man, he is a very critical netanyahu government. I think in the interview he calls some of the worst government israel has ever had. I think he used that phrase. But there is a sense of just he says it was a social contract that we would live here and the government would protect us, and they failed in that social contract. Many countries, not just israel, one of the ways that you secure the border is that you put people on the borders because the idea is, and this is actually something that my wife was a professor and she pointed out. It says that you dont destroy village on the border, even then, it is extremely sinful, and then the border is eroded and you might get invaded. This is a general strategic thing. So you put citizens on the border but then you have to protect them, obviously, if they are there. So no one is going to encroach on your land while people are there unless they want to attack. And they expected that the army would come. And the army, not only did not stop the army from getting, and so one of the things that he talked about in the pieces that there was a way that people were thinking they would be attacked. But it wasnt on the ground, it was underground. And 3000 the last time that they fought on the ground, in a Ground Invasion to gaza, it was by the tunnels. The tunnels. This was talked about a lot by israeli politicians, american politicians, the tunnels, the tunnels. The irony is that they understood but they didnt understand. They understood that they have intelligence and the realize that these tunnels are literally under communities like premiers and the goal was to literally pop up all at once, the intelligence was 200 people all at once, and just a mass killing of civilians. And kidnapping people. In other words, exactly what we saw nine years later. Basically, instead of going underground, they just came over the border. So what happened, israel spent a lot of money including all of those tunnels, and building effectively an underground wall. What they didnt actually secure, nearly as well as a thought, is that is why that you end up with a Ground Invasion. So, they understood that the tunnels were a threat, but i think that this is something important to understand. He didnt say this, this is me talking to you as a reporter and analyst, you have this intelligence in 2014 that they start to uncover, which is that they go under this ground war, and it was just about to execute this plan when they find this tunnel. They want to mask kill civilians on the border, and through dumb luck, another government escape that. And they were almost walking into that. You know, at the time, i think that a lot of reporters and analysts dismissed it because they said, okay, maybe hamas wasnt serious and it was just a plan. Or maybe it is the Security Services, but the Security Services do that to reinforce the need for their existence. But now we know that actually they just plan for another nine years, and then they did it a different way. Rosenberg who conducted the amazing interview on the atlantic, thank you so much, appreciated. That is it for us tonight. Our coverage continues now with alex wagner. Good evening, alex.
