Msnbc headquarters here at 30 rock center. It is now day four of the israel hamas war. At least 1000 people have died in israel, and at least 800 in gaza have been killed. Today, President Biden confirmed 14 of those killed were americans. He also vowed u. S. Support for israel, calling the hamas attacks, quote, pure evil. My colleague, Nbcs Lester Holt is in israel with more. Tonight, new escalations in this war. Israel intensifying its retaliation in gaza, targeting hamas. Which is still firing rockets into israel, after it unleashed its massive Terror Attack and this dramatic newlyrevealed Body Cam Video showing the sea of Israeli Forces rushing to rescue forces in southern israel saturday. After the area was invaded by hamas, Chilling Images showing Hamas Terrorists killing drivers in their cars, then dragging their bodies. This disturbing video showing a terrified is really concert goer desperately hiding behind a vehicle, as hes executed at point blank range. Israeli officials releasing this image of body bags. Over 100 People Killed in the beeri coutts. Troops amassing for a potential Ground Offensive inside gaza, with President Biden vowing american support. Let there be no doubt, the United States has israels back. And blasting the Carnage Under East by hamas. Babies being killed, entire families slain. Woman raped, assaulted, paraded as trophies. Like every nation in the worlds, israel has the right to respond, indeed, has the duty to respond to these vicious attacks. Still looming, the threat by hamas to start executing over 100 hostages on camera, including americans. We now know that american citizens are among those being held by hamas. Thats your mom . Yeah, thats my mom. But tonight, some families of americans held by hamas saying the Biden Administration is not doing enough. He says hes only received one call from the u. S. Embassy since his mother adrienne, a nurse born and raised in california, was presumed to have been abducted by hamas. I would expect those people to act them until the release of all the hostages, my mom included. Were also learning more about the horrific attacks on israeli towns near the border of gaza. Those were carried out by terrorists, who struck without any warning. Richard engel has that story. There israeli troops are still trying to secure the country, four days after the worst Terror Attack in israels history. And today, moved into the village of kfar aza, on the border with gaza. Hamas massacred dozens of israeli civilians here. The area has not been secured. This is the first time journalists have been allowed in. Israeli troops are still clearing this, they fear that there might still be hamas fighters in some of these buildings. Its a slow and dangerous mission, as the soldiers go through every room, double and triple checking. All of the residents are gone, either evacuated, killed, or kidnapped. There are still bodies everywhere. The israelis in body bags, hamas gunman were left rotting where they fell, next to the flags they brought to declare victory. And these were the homes that the hamas militants were going through. You can see all the doors and windows are broken in. It was like each one suffered a home invasion, as the troops kept searching, they discovered the remains of an elderly woman. They wrapped her in a plastic tarp, adding one more to the death toll. Sergeant is a civil engineer, now on an openended combat mission. What is it like for you to see this . Its horrible. I live ten minutes from here. What do you think needs to happen now . I dont know. To change this reality. Weve had this for years. He is only ones really community were hamas went on a killing spree. Today, we n images from the nearby village, where more than 100 men, women, and children were executed. Hamas says it trained for over a year for all of this, and today released new footage, which the group edited and blurred, of the militants streaming through holes in the border fence and flying over. Hamas isnt finished yet. The militants today launched hundreds of rockets into israel. We took cover in a shelter. This is happening in israel every single day. Israels iron dome Defense System intercepted nearly all of the rockets. But if you did get throw. Israel has declared war on hamas, and these may only be the first days of it. And tonight, the first delivery of advanced u. S. Ammunition has arrived in israel. Meanwhile, the airstrikes on gaza continue. My colleague has the latest there. Tonight, the scale of devastation in gaza, coming into full view. After four days of israeli retaliation, airstrikes, whole neighborhoods now lying in ruins. And smoke rising as boats burn in a gaza city port. One missile falling in the city. Israels military says its launch more than 2300 strikes so far, in response to the assault mounted by Hamas Terrorists. Tonight, hamas leaders continue to fire rockets into israel, and hold civilians hostage in gaza. But its ordinary palestinians who live under hamas rule that dont necessarily support the group, who often pay the heaviest price. Digging through the rubble, with bare hands. Gazas hospitals, overwhelmed by the tide of injuries. Shes a young mother, her daughter sofia turns to tomorrow. I feel guilty, because i cant even say happy birthday. With gazas borders still sealed, we were forced to talk over shaky internet. When the bombs are falling, what do you tell your daughter . Thats all i can reply to her. But she can recognize the sound. Israels Defense Minister has ordered a total siege of the strip, cutting up food, fuel, and electricity. Leaving the border with egypt as goals as only lifeline. But today, its really strikes landing near the crossing point, and with israel amassing its forces for unexpected ground invasion, its likely to be Palestinian Civilians caught in the cross fire. For more, id like to welcome hes an israeli soldier whose mother was killed and hamas Terror Attacks. First, i am so, so sorry to learn about your mother. We saw her beautiful pictures, we read stories about her. But i want to hear from you. Tell us what happened. U. Tell us what happe ned. I dont know if i can say good morning, but thank you for having me on the show. Its very important to me to tell the story, and let the world know whats going on in israel. Im living at the farm, my family farm that my mom built up. We live at the farm. In the morning, we heard bombs in the area falling. We were in the area the bombs werent falling, so we thought this was unusual. Not usual, not something that i know what happened. Its an attack, we try to manage it. To take the kibbutz and places like that. But the civilians of israel are living there, and in the meantime, i am recruiting soldiers to protect us also, because all of this area, its one big war zone that we need to protect. Every place, every stone, every man was not safe in israel, no matter where you live. Im getting a phone call from my sister, she tells me, look, my sister lives on the kibbutz. She gave birth, she was at the hospital. So she was safe. My brother and all of his kids were in the kibbutz, and my mom was in the kibbutz also. My sister gave birth, so my mom wanted to give the more power. My sister calls me, she tells me look, there is an attack on the kibbutz. They were attacking people, those on the streets, civilians that come to the streets, to get everybody they can. What can i do, how can i help . I didnt understand how bad it was, i didnt understand how big it is. How crazy it is. Im calling my brother, telling him to get ready. Bring guns, bring ammunition, everything we can. Lets go to save mom, lets go to save all of the kids. Lets try to save people from israel. Lets try to do something. So were putting our things in the car, just ordinary family vehicle. This time, im getting information thats that there are soldiers from us that are kidnapped, killed, full of terrorists, trying to shut up cars and trying to flip cars and things like that. So we are getting to a place where we see a fight, we see bodies of people, soldiers, Police Officers those taking the car, we start driving to the coutts. They cannot shoot at us, and ive been in the army, i know whats going on in the army, so i decided to take the car off the road and put it behind trees. We already had the car, putting the ammunition on us. We started to walk on foot, Something Like four kilometers, to the place. Because we know the place is full of and we want to have the supplies. Were going by foot, in the meantime getting messages that there are Terror Groups that are going through the streets, killing everybody. They just saw it like a game, they came to the place to kill, to rob, to rape, whatever they can. And i understand that weve never had a group that is coming inside the coutts. I didnt see them, but i understood we got into the kibbutz, nobody sees us. Were finding security, they shoot from their, automatically from their, we want to get to my brothers house. We need to see if the kids are okay, and to save them. We go to the house, we knock on the door, we say its us. He knows our voices. We see him asking, what is going on . Is everybody in your house okay . Give us a little bit of information about whats happening. He says he doesnt know, we just see from the group of them, they kill everybody they can. Im asking, where is my mom . He sends me, he told me the location that my mom is supposed to be. So Me And My Brother start to go into the streets and go to my moms house. This time, i went to my mom and i told her, mom, your boys are here. Were coming to take you back home from this. Were coming to take you home. Im thinking my mom will be glad that thats what i think. So we see a body on the streets, my mom goes to the body, im taking her to a place to be safe. Then we see its my mom. We see bullets, full of bullets from head to toe. My Mom Holding A Package of biscuits to give the kids, full of blood. She fell on the street, because she wanted to go from where she slept to the kids, to be with them when the attack was happening so they wouldnt be scared. But she fell on the street, because she is old. Shes 63. She fell on the street, and then the Terror Group Just saw her on the street, and killed her from head to toe. Afterwards, we were still in the war zone. We knew the situation, but we knew that we had to see all of the settlements that were safe. This time, we got to two friends of the kibbutz that were outside of the attack. They protected what they could for the kibbutz. We started to clean houses, watch for survivors, try to understand what we meant a group of 15 soldiers, and two friends of ours. My home is far, an hour and a half from the kibbutz. Thats why its not like five minutes from, them and taking them. This time i made a switch in my head. I was very emotional, and my brother tells me its wartime. We need to see everybody safe. To try to save the people that are alive, and then we come back for mom. So we go to the house as, we see, you cant believe what you see. You see a woman that they blew up, just blew them up for fun. For the show. It just seems that they love it, they get joy from it. You see bicycles, people crying from bicycles. They aimed to kidnap israeli kits. They came, they just wanted to wait and take whatever they can. Its a disaster. After we saw the place cleaned, we went to my mom and gave her the last respect we would give her. We try to clean whatever we could, we got a blanket, put her on the blankets,. I told my mom, im sorry that i didnt come on time. Me im sorry i didnt come on time to save her. I closed the blanket on her, with my brother, who cooked her on the corner. The war is going on. I could not put the body in the sun. So we put the body in shadow, we try to clothes it however we could. And then we came back to my brother in law, we called him, lets get out of here. And then we waited until a group of group of soldiers came to the place with all the people. We saw that everything is okay, everything is in control in that kibbutz. And we left the farm, because the farm was also a dangerous place. They tried to kill us before. So i wanted to see the people still alive, coming back. I that time, i didnt know what Big Miracle God did for us. I thought that we were in control, and i didnt know that i had my moms body with me in the car, back to the farm. So that we could have the body at rest. I thought that people would come and bring the body to us, but it didnt happen. All of the places were still under attack, still shooting. Im also an officer with israel, so everywhere is war, lebanon, syria, inside this, things are under attack. Last night, its now six in the morning. So i did something tonight to keep the safety of israeli people. Its a very big attack. We didnt know that it was going to be like that. Thats all, thank you for sharing that with us. I know how difficult it was, i want your mother to feel honored and it is so important. Because for us here in the states, we need to understand the reality of war, and what is going on inside of israel. And i so appreciate you sharing that with us tonight, this morning for you. Thank you. Thank you. I tell you just a last thing. There is a war between good and evil. Its not because i never in my life, ive been in the army years. Never in my life have i harmed a kid, harmed a woman, or harms an old lady. Of course, not for fun. And of course, not for nothing. Because its not new a war and its not a situation. They came and took and kidnapped is real. Captured, just because they could. Captured. Its not even a religious thing, its just fun. They captured is american civilians. All over the world, people who came to the festival. They just took, them raped women. Bodies, slaughtered babies. Babies, more than 40 babies and kids slaughtered and burns. Its not a war between israel and hamas. Its a war between good and evil. We as a world cannot let it go on. We cannot, until we finish the evil. Thank you for being with us today. I really appreciate it. Now, lets turn to Lieutenant Colonel jonathan hes a former spokesperson for the Israel Defense forces. Thank you for your patience. What can you tell us right now about the military response against hamas . Our last guest walked us through the brutal reality of what these Terror Attacks have been like on civilians. Yes, thank you for having me, and i am shaken as you are, and im sure that your viewers are, hearing his personal story, which sadly, is not the only such story. There is 1200 such stories in israel today, and thats the number of israelis that have been killed by hamas over the last three days. Most of them on the morning of saturday the seventh. Usually, i speak about these things. But i think i dont need to address and take your time on it, because i think he said it so well, and i will speak about only the military situation. Its as follows. We are fighting on three fronts. In gaza, around gaza, the communities where they were filming from, and there are still active fighting in southern israel, and every few hours theres another clash between terrorists and Israeli Security forces. We have regained control, but there are still terrorists and hamas and Islamic Jihad are making their way across the border, including using gliders and other equipment, in order to get to the israeli communities. And the second front that is active is the Lebanese Front, and hezbollah on the other side. The largest of all of irans proxies, it has, shall we say, tested the waters. Fired a few missiles, rockets, and there has been an attempt to infiltrate into israel by the terrorists from the Islamic Jihad. So far, that area is now stabilized and relatively quiet, and no significant casualties have been sustained on the israeli side. Id like to mention that were deploying on the Lebanese Front with significant enforcements, infantry, special forces, artillery, all her, and many other components are on the ground and above the ground in order to preempt any attempt by hezbollah or any other Terrorist Organization to attack from the north. The recent addition to the active front is the syrian front, where rockets were fired from syria and israel a few hours ago. We do not know who fired the rockets, if it was iranian Proxy Organizations their, or the syrian military, or hezbollah, or perhaps we retaliated fire, and our vigilantly watching that area. The footage that your screening right now is from perhaps the most significant activity over the last day, and that is our strikes, our aerial strikes against hamas and their military targets in gaza. The strike is significant and severe, and it is the first stage of the implementation of our task, the task that we have been given by the israeli governments to make sure that hamas doesnt have any military capabilities to kill or terrorize israeli civilians, when this war ends. Lieutenant colonel, thank you for giving us that update. Im sure well be speaking with you in the coming days as this war is just beginning. When we come back, harrowing and heartbreaking reporting out ofisrael, after horrific attacks of terrorism. How one father spent ten hours in silence with his young daughters to wait out the attack. The heartbreaking stories from israel just keep coming including a terrifying account from a mere, a dad living with his family near the border. When the attack began, they barricaded hymns themselves into a secure room for hours and hours. Joining me now, staff writer for the atlantic, he conducted that extraordinary interview. Tell us their story. They have escaped, where are they now . Give us the picture. Right now they are safe with family in tel aviv, well away from the gaza border, but obviously thats not where they started when this week began. So they live in this town which is this Small Community of a few families, and its so close to the gaza border they cant use the iron dome to protect it from rocket fire. Because its so close, to record it is gonna hit. Every family has a reinforced concrete room or see room, that can take a direct hit from a rocket. At night, my friend who is a journalist and his wife hear this sound like a mortar fire. It is sound very well. Mortar incoming, so they rushed to the safe room. And i think its another rocket attack. And they get into the safe room and they lock it. They start Hearing Gunfire and its getting closer and closer and closer. That theyve never heard before. And then they realize once it starts getting closer its into the house, and there are actually terrorists in the house. And still they escaped . Still after ten hours they will escape. What ends up happening is the electricity goes out. They have to tell her three year old and theyre one year old you cannot make any sound, you cannot have anything to eat, you cannot go into play, we cannot open the room, we have to be just can be completely quiet. You have to trust us and he said amazingly, the kids somehow understood that they, they saw the seriousness on their faces and they were quiet. He started taxing and first of one of the find it what was going on. He texted a reporter from a paper. He says i know that are terrorists in your neighborhood, its not just you but its all the neighborhoods on the border. Every single house was experiencing a home invasion. Theres a quote in there where everyone was saying there was terrorists in the house. There is a quote that is extraordinary. Where in, and mayor says, we have to destroy hamas. I feel very bad for the people of gaza. Even after experiencing this deadly Terror Attack in his home, hes not gonna lump the people of gaza and with hamas. That is extraordinary especially for our audience. Amir himself speaks english, hebrew and arabic. He understood what was happening apart because he heard the terrorists talking, and he said i know what is going on here. There nobody crosses in that direction but he wrote a biography of the palestinian president and the palestinian authority. And he knows that there are the Palestinian People and theres a group like hamas which doesnt actually allow anybody to vote in gaza, represses its own palestinian critics. He regrets like the people youve interviewed that the fact they have to go fight a war which they know is going to cause terror and trauma to not just the people that they need to fight but to the civilians. He says in it this attack is our 9 11. That obviously resonates with people here, but isnt it much more than . 9 11 was one day. This is an ongoing Terror Attack thats not ending. One of things being american is that everybody starts operating a metaphors but it is correct that you cant really compare it. It is a death toll 1200 people which is going to be higher, thats an undercount, because theyre still counting the bodies. Thats in a country of less than 10 million people. Its sort of like the proportion of the population, everyone knows someone who is murdered, mutilated, kidnapped, extraordinarily high. Not the sort of thing that happens in most places ever in a lifetime ever. Thank you so much for sharing that story with the reporting is so important right now. Hamas does not stand for the Palestinian Peoples right to dignity and self determination. Its purpose of the annihilation of israel and the jewish people. Today President Biden was absolute as he condemned the terrorist Attacks Hamas committed in israel. The president pointed out that hamas is targeted innocent civilians, including babies, entire families and kidnapped them to use this human shields. But there are some them at their would see things differently. A collection of student grps at Harvard University released a letter blaming israel for the violence are, saying the events did not occur in a vacuum. This is lead to strong backlash from alumni, faculty and some lot u. S. Lawmakers. One of those lawmakers who stood up spoke up. Democratic congressman of new york Richie Torres. Congressman, what was your reaction when he saw that letter . The letter was an embarrassment. We should live in a World War Barbaric Acts of terrorism are universally condemned, equivocation, without hesitation, without office consideration. Nobody should glorify the terror of hamas as resistance. Nobody should blame the victim, nobody should empathize with Hamas Terrorists who murdered babies, and nobody should refer to hamas murderers as militants. If you are raping and abducting and murdering and wounding israelis, you are not a militant, you are a terrorist. Nobody ever referred to the 9 11 attackers as militants. And if the murder doesnt have babies doesnt qualify as terrorism, undid im not sure what qualifies is terrorism. Went to members of your own party released statements critical of israel, you called those remarks reprehensible and repulsive. And he spoken to either one of them since . Ive not spoken to either one of them, but i would make a simple point. If i were speaking to you who lost a child, i could not imagine anyone more indecent, more callous, more cruel than saying its your fault. You brought it upon yourself. To me its not about politics, its about Human Decency we should be expressing condolences to israeli victims. We should be showing support and solidarity. We should be condemning in no Uncertain Terms the barbarity and the savagery of hamas. There is no need to politicize. There is no need to psycho analyze the feelings of hamas. Im no more interested in a psychoanalysis of hamas that im interested in the psychoanalysis of ices or alqaeda. These are Terrorist Organizations enough to be held accountable, it should be brought to justice and, should be driven from power. President biden was unequivocal and his support for israels speech earlier today. What did you think of his remarks . President biden is one of the most proactive precedents weve ever seen. I think he struck the exactly the right tone. United states and israel are home to almost all of the worlds jewish population. Theres a special relationship between the United States and israel. And as a friend of israel, we have an obligation to stand with israel and his moment of greatest need as it seeks to defend itself in the face of unprecedented terrorism. He first visited israel in 2015. He called it a lifechanging experience. For those of us who have never been there, what do you want us to know . Ive been to israel on five occasions. Ive visited the civilian communities along the border with gaza, ive met with families who live under the terror of relentless rocket fire and home invasions. Ive seen the children whove been profoundly shaken by posttraumatic stress. And ive been inside those phones that can turn into war zones in the blink of an eye. So i asked the world to have empathy for the plight of israelis who are facing a level of insecurity that most of us will never know here in the United States. Israel is surrounded by hostile forces. We are surrounded by allies like mexico and canada. And before we judge we should have empathy for the Security Situation for the plight of these really people. We are gonna end on empathy. Its something we can all use all the time. Congressman thank you so much for your thoughts. Thank you for joining us tonight. Absolutely. And id like to end this broadcast with a quote from and frank whose diary said in spite of everything, i still believe that people are truly good. I highlight that because that is the message that weve heard from all of the families of hostages that we spoke to tonight. All of those who still believe in humanity and the good of people. And on that note, i wish you all a very good and safe night. I get kids, hes a scary. Times from all our colleagues across the were network on nbc news, thanks for staying up late.
