Speak at 2 30 this afternoon. Just about 30 minutes from now. His first comments that the hamas Surprise Attack on israel and israels response. We will have a live report from the white house in just a moment. We will bring you the president s remarks when they happen. First, the latest. At least 70 people are dead, hundreds more are wounded in israel after hamas forces launched an unprecedented attack by air, land, and see. President biden set to deliver remarks on the situation, which will bring to you live. Prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, saying the country isnt a state of war. The Israeli Military saying an unknown number of soldiers and civilians have been taking hostage. Meanwhile, Gazas Health Ministry reports 198 people are dead and more than 1600 injured after israeli airstrikes in the region in retaliation. This comes 50 years and one day after the start of the october war, also known as the yom kippur war, who killed thousands on each side after egypt and syria launched Surprise Attacks on israel. Rat sounded on the ground just north of the gaza strip in israel. Raw, flood is the latest . Lindsey, we are now more than 13 hours into the Surprise Attack. This is feeling like a nightmare that Israelis Cannot wake up from. This is, not only, a large scale attack from the air with rockets on the ground with squads of highly trained Palestinian Militants that has resulted in this normative toll inside of israel. At least 70 israelis are confirmed dead. I can tell you that people here suspect the actual toll will end up being much, much, higher than that. Lindsey, this is also an unfolding Hostage Crisis on an absolutely massive scale. I want to be really specific about what we are talking about here. The Israeli Military just briefed the press. They say that there are two Hostage Situations still underway in israeli communities near the gaza border, on the side of the gaza border, where we are. They say that these are situations where palestinian gunmen who crossed over early this morning still have israeli hostages held at gunpoint. They are, at this point, it appears, largely surrounded by the Israeli Forces who have just been surging to the south all day. Lindsey, that is just one half of this Hostage Crisis. The other half is there are Israeli Soldiers and israeli civilians who are now on the other side of the border. Being held by hamas and by Islamic Jihad inside of gaza city in other locations inside of the strip. Lindsey, when it comes to trying to figure out where this is going next, this is the key dynamic. There are Israeli Citizens in captivity inside gaza right now. Israel, the government, and the military is making very clear, all options are on the table to get those people back. Including, potentially, a large scale Ground Offensive into gaza. We have talked about the death toll here on the israeli side. Lindsey all day we have seen israeli jets overhead. Striking targets inside of gaza. The palestinian Health Ministry said that in the last several hours to hundred and 30 palestinians have been killed in the course of these airstrikes. I can tell you that if is sources surge into gaza, one of the most largely Populated Areas in nowhere to run, nowhere to hide for the 2 million palestinians ruins in their. What is already a devastating death toll is going to hire. Lindsey, the socalled armed wing of hamas said that this attack today is justified by israels ongoing occupation of the west bank. Israels treatment of the palestinian people. I can tell you that israelis, from Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahu on down, as well as ukrainian government, is very clear in their own mind that what is happening right now it is terrorism on an absolutely massive scale. Lindsey . I dont know if you can hear the noises behind you, could you give us more context on those blast . We know anything more about the israeli civilians being held hostage right now . Age or anything or any more information . Just starting with the geography, we are about six miles from the gaza border right now. You can see Israeli Security forces setting up the checkpoint here. On the other side of the checkpoint into israeli city of sderot. Last time we checked in with Israeli Security officials out an hour and a half ago, there was still ongoing palestinian gunmen who have been taking plays, holding buildings all day, despite the power of the Israeli Military, the fighting there continues. In terms of the israelis being held inside of gaza, we do not know how many, we do not know what the breakdown is between civilians and soldiers. I can tell you, lindsey, there is not a single more sensitive piece of data inside of the Israeli Government right now than how many people are being held. What condition are they in . Is it possible to rescue them . Those questions will determine where Israel Government goes next. If they feel that the best chance to get these people back alive is to stand largescale Ground Forces into gaza, i expect the that is what we will see in the coming hours and days. We may see enormous loss of life on both sides at the happens. Lindsey . Raf sanchez, tireless reporting all day. Raf, we appreciate you and your crew. As we mentioned, President Biden is set to make remarks at 2 30 pm eastern today on israel. It comes after he released a statement earlier saying he spoke with israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and express unwavering support for israels right to defend itself. Netanyahus Office Posted on the social media platform, acts, formerly known as twitter, and he thanked President Biden for the support and made it clear that a forceful prolonged campaign, which he said israel will win, is necessary. Joining us now is nbcs allie raffa. Eileen, but also hearing from the president . Lindsey, i mentioned that we expect the president to speak in less than 30 minutes now. These remarks are going to be coming after we know the president has been working from the west wing this morning, in communication with his National Security team, his senior advisers, being read in and updated on the very latest on this precedent id in israel. As we saw, raf explaining, it is still unfolding. This is really an all hands on deck situation. We know that Secretary Of StateAnthony Blinken has been working from here at the white house according to a States Department spokesperson. We have seen a flood of reaction from Administration Officials, members of the biden cabinet. All reiterating their continued support for israel. Saying that israel continues to have the right to defend itself. One of the statements from secretary of defense, lloyd austin, he says in part, quote, over the coming days the Department Of Defense will work to continue that israel has what it needs to defend itself and protect civilians from indiscriminate violence and terrorism. Notably, lindsey, up until this point where we expected the president to give us an update on the situation as to what he knows and what the u. S. May be planning to do. We have seen the white house take a very cautious posture. Now trying to get, prematurely, ahead of any developments. Making sure that all of the communication and the calls that need to be had our had upfront so that they can get accurate Intelligence Analysis and assessment of what is going on on the ground there. They are trying to really get a sense of how this was even able to happen. How hamas militants were able to penetrate israels iron dome and its border to the extent that it has been able to. This is an unprecedented step. We have seen the Strong Partnership this alliance between the United States in israel that goes back for decades now. Not having been tested to this point in its history. It is going to be very interesting to see how the president reacts to this, how he responds to this. What the next steps are as far as the u. S. s intervention, hope it may be able to provide, to israel. One thing i do want to also mention is, recently, the white house has also been pushing back on claims from republicans, republican candidates, for 2024, credential president ial candidates, republican lawmakers, claiming the the Six Billion Dollars, the unfrozen assets for iran that were given in exchange for the Prisoner Swap of five americans. They are linking that to this attack on israel by hamas militants. The white house fiercely pushing back on that. Assuring americans today that none of that money have been spent. They are reminding americans of the conditions of that deal. That money was only to be used for humanitarian purposes by iran, lindsey. Certainly, we will hear more from you this hour when the president speaks. To talk more about this right now im joined by Retired Army General, steph twitty. Military analysts, bobby, gauche and columnist. General 20, are you there . I am here. Can you hear me, lindsey . I can. Thank you for being with us, both of you. First, your reaction, general twitty, to the fact that the Israeli Military is reporting that there are hostages in gaza, including civilians and soldiers. That we could see a robust Ground Offensive. What are you watching for, general twitty . I am watching for a couple of things. If i could just back up a little bit and really talk about how this unfolded, in my view. You have a couple of things going on here. First of all, you have a breached border between israel and gaza. That border must be sealed quickly or you are going to get other hostages flowing back over that border. Hostages into hamas and militants coming in. To also feed into the villages that are already, pretty much, seized. You can see the fighting down in the south in israel. Then, the israelis have to worry about the west bank. Whether or not hamas will join in from the west bank. Dont forget about hezbollah to the north. The Golan Heights area there. They have got to be concerned about that. On top of this they have to be concerned about the hostages that you referred to. But i think will happen is, obviously, the israelis are trying to gain human and intelligence to gain the location of these hostages. What youll see is special Operation Forces that will try to infiltrate and learn more about where theyre located. Followed by around cordons or a all out offensive supported by air attack. I think that is a few hours away. They have to get their arms around where the hostages are located. That is going to be the primary focus at this point. In terms of hamas, they are gonna spread these hostages out. They know that the theories have pretty good intelligence. Although it was lost in this attack. At the end of the day, they do have pretty good intelligence. Theyre gonna move these positive about. They are probably gonna try to segregate them and centralized and to keep the israelis on their toes. We will talk a little bit more about the lack of intelligence in predicting this attack. Before we do that with the general only get your reaction to what we are seeing. General only geti think the geny right. The big question, the two Big Questions is, is there a second wave to come from the palestinian fighters . If it does, whats directional come from . Will it come from the west bank . Will it come from hezbollah in the north . Maybe a second wave from hamas. I would say the third option is at least likely. With the hostages it all comes down to the numbers. Are we talking Single Digits . Probably not. Maybe double digit, triple digit . How many hostages . The israeli responsible depend on that. Again hamas is in complete control. They have the ability to spread these hostages all around. It is just a matter of time, maybe days, israel will have to bring in other players including the passage of chinas play that role. The turkish president erdogan, the egyptian president sissi, i think it will begin in a few days to play an increasingly Important Role in the conflict. The ability to do what to more generally try to get the hostages back. Oh, i appreciate that context there, and that perspective bobby. General twitty, when we talk about what appears to be a lack of intelligence here at, do you fear that that could happen again, with Body Predicting what happens next . Is it another way, do you feel that the Israeli Defenses will be able to handle that, as opposed to the 2200 rockets that the iron dome wasnt able to fend off . Yeah so just, let me just say that it is hard for any air Defense System to fend off 22 that are coming in at one time. And so, we say that the iron dome was a complete failure, i dont think thats the case. It is one of the worlds most advanced air Defense Systems, it just got overwhelmed. Now, in terms of the intelligence , this surprises me. The israelis are known for their intelligence, pretty impressive intelligence apparatuses. So, it surprises me. Could they be surprised again . Yes, but i dont think so, because i think this is a huge wake up call, and they are going to have a full court press on their intelligence now, not just with hamas, but on the west bank, and looking at hezbollah, to see if theyre going to try and join in as. Well bobby, you also said this about hamas on social media, they dont expect to win, but if they inflict substantial damage, in the world interference to prevent israel from a full bore retaliation, that could be spun as a win, can you elaborate . Well, i was making reference to what happened 50 years ago, the yom kippur war, when along with syria, who was president of egypt at the time, knew going in that there was no way that egypt could inflict a complete defeat on the israelis. Israel had the American Fighting quality, and the support of the western world. But what was counting on, was that he could inflate just enough damage, that the rest the real will quickly intervene, and tried to put reinforcement, too and that allowed in the end, to emerge it doesnt matter whether the rest of the world, has a signal or lot. In his own people, and in the larger world the arab community, but that. I think what hamas is calculating, and something quite similar here. They know that when it comes to a real fight, the israelis will win. But if hamas can hold out long enough for the rest of the world to intervene, and restrain israel, then hamas can declare victory. But mind you, the israelis also know this, and they will try to extract a maximum amount of damage possible, before the rest of the world can successfully intervene. Such a complex issue. Bobby gauche, and Retired Army General tweety, we will be right back with more of our Breaking News coverage. In just 60 seconds, how leaders around the world are reacting to the attacks. S. Secretary of state Anthony Blinken is weighing in, as well, on the palestinian strikes in israel, as we see a live look here at the white house. And just reminder to everybody that the president will be speaking at 2 30 eastern, and we will bring you that. But Secretary Of State blinken reacting here. We have course have seen reportedly, 70 People Killed in israel, more than 100 in gods, according to local reports. Saying in a statement, we unequivocally condemn the appalling attacks by Hamas Terrorists against israel. We stand in solidarity with the government, and people of israel, and extend our condolences for the israeli lives lost in the attacks. Joining us now, with global reaction, is nbcs matt bradley. Matt, u. S. Support of israel has been swift, and constant throughout the day. What reaction are we hear from other countries around the world . Yeah, well its really interesting, lindsey. Because weve been hearing from governments, and International Supernational states, like the european union, the United Nations is going to be holding an Emergency Meeting tomorrow. And, what we are hearing is universal condemnation from the west. But, from other states, from the arab countries, thats where its been really interesting. Because, we are hearing from them more nuanced takes, then we are hearing from states like qatar, that are lined with iran. They feel as though they are going to be blaming israel for this violence, but we are also hearing from hezbollah, and from iran, they are condemning israel. This is in the midst of negotiations that are being led by the United States, to try to create diplomatic ties between some of these arab states and israel, and that is why we are seeing such an extraordinary, and different, take here, lindsay. So matt, given that, and given all that you know about this region, and the good amount time that you spent in israel. First of all, what surprises me most about this Surprise Attack . And what are you watching for, as well . Yeah, the level of coordination, and the sophistication of the attacks. You know normally, we have been seeing missiles that in launched from gaza. But seeing them actually break over the border, and move into israel proper, take people, israeli civilians, and officers, and bring them back over into the gaza strip. That is going to have long reaching effects. Because for the israelis, that is something that is just a no go zone. They are going to move heaven and earth, in order to get their people back, and that is good to have long term effects. The hamas people know that, that is why they have done it, and that is what they are expecting to get some sort of concession from israel, probably. They havent really stated what they are going to be doing, but we know they probably want some sort of Prisoner Release of palestinians, who are being held by the israelis. So, this is going to be basically a paradigm shift. We are seeing h c chang dried out, we havent seen the end of this, lindsey. And so, given that we are expecting a sea change, matt, is it too early to tell what that could mean for future diplomatic relations, and the steel that the white house is trying to broker . Lindsey, i would love to be able to predict the future. I cant really tell. You know, there is going to be some united against israel, from a lot of these arab states. Like i said, saudi arabia was unique, not really condemning israel. Normally they would come down on israelis side, but because they are in the midst of these negotiations that are being led by the Biden Administration, and they are within striking districts of actually diplomatically recognizing israel, it would bring a massive change for the entire reason, the palestinians are more isolated than ever. So, this is really going to be interesting, to see how this plays out. We are in an unprecedented diplomatic situation right now, and this attack itself is unprecedented for the past 50 years. So, it really defies any sense of okay, matt bradley, appreciate it, thank you. We are expecting President Biden to speak any moment, addressing the ongoing attacks in israel. We will bring those comments to you live, when they begin, well be right back. L be rightac bk. New Subway Mvp Rewards Program and get rewarded. His first remarks since the hamas attack on israel. We will bring that q live, when it happens. Join me right now is peter baker, a New York Times chief white house correspondent, who is also an msnbc political analyst. So peter, what you expect to hear from the president . Well, i think you will hear him say out loud what he has already said in a written statement, which is this is an appalling attack, that was his words against israel, that he stands with israel, and United States stands with israel, and are ready to come to their assistance, in a matter of form that may take. He has already spoken, of course, with benjamin yahoo, the israeli Prime Minister. He has also just spoken with sorry abdullah jordan, and i think what we are waiting to see is whether he addresses the criticism he is already getting from his republican opponents, about whether or not the recent hostage deal with iran, with Six Billion Dollars of iranian money was released, had any role in this. That we are seeing the white house put out a statement, the State Department Put Out a statement and that attack, saying that is nonsense. That that money actually hadnt been spent. And even once they are, spent they are respected to humanitarian purposes. But it is obviously a sensitive point, for the white house. And i think it will be interesting to see whether the president takes questions, or addresses that anyway. Peter, when you get a sense of support, and, assistance for those kind of been two different things. Does that mean a Blanket Support for whatever israel plans to do, which we still dont know the full scope of this conflict . Yet no of course, its never. Its never good to completely unconditional support in that sense. There have been many times in the past with israel where hamas had gone to war and, in which the United States ultimately, has a Restraining Role, certainly after it is gone around. It had an earlier and bidens presidency, there was a conflict tween gaza and israel, that went on for a number of days. At first, President Biden more or less kept his distance. And then after a number of, days when he felt it had played itself out, played more of a Restraining Role in calling on netanyahu to go ahead and put an end to. It this is not going to end, it doesnt look like anytime soon. This is a far more extensive conflict at this point, a war as Benjamin Netanyahu was calling this, and it is hard to see that it will simply resolve some sort of a ceasefire, in the immediate future. But that is, for the moment, given the nature of this attack, it is going to cause a pretty unified response in washington, for both democrats and republicans on israel side. Thank you so much. Joining me right now is ohio congresswoman chantal brown. Congresswoman, thanks for being here. And of course, if the president starts to speak at the white house, we will bring those comments live. So i apologize if i have to interrupt you. But you are part of the Bipartisan Task force for combatting antisemitism, what do you think about the latest developments we are seeing. Well first and foremost, thank you for having me on this critical issue. I had a chance to actually visit is real, before becoming a member of congress, in 2018. So, i was actually able to firsthand witness what the cars are like, near the gaza strip. So to see this is very traumatic, it is horrifying, it is devastating. But i think it also speaks to the very critical point, that was made by mr. Baker, that we hat to restore congress, so that we can continue with the bipartisanship, and the support we demonstrate for our good friend and our very very reliable ally, in israel. How do you see the u. S. Handling this . What do you expect to hear, from the president , what do you want to hear . Well, i expect to hear, what have already been stated, as relates to his communications, with president netanyahu, that we are going to continue to keep an eye on this. I expect us to continue to be a reliable supporter of our friends in israel. Our Democratic Alliance is critical, to not only each other, but just the world, the entire world. This is a real shock to the system, ive had several constituents already contact me, about maintaining our support for israel. And i can say, with confidence and conviction, that they can certainly rely on me to continue to pull those values, to continue to sustain that relationship that we have, as it relates to israel. But it is, again, having been there, and actually still along the gaza strip, at a kibbutz, to see this is devastating, and very very traumatic. Congresswoman, i want to talk about the politics of this in congress. The u. S. Does not have an ambassador to israel right now, because jack lieu has been held up. What is the impact, of a vacancy at such a crucial post . As you can see right now, we are in crisis. Much of this crisis is something that sadly started on january 3rd, and all of 2020 of our last election of this, year when we were looking to elect a speaker. 15 rounds of, republicans, not able to make a decision. Here we are again, nearly nine or ten months later, back in the same predicament. But chaos and confusion, are of our colleagues on the, other side of the aisle, has left us with a huge void, and really vulnerable to the rest of the world. I personally dont think that it is a coincidence, that this is happening while we have a vacancy as it relates to the speaker. So, what really needs to happen is those who come on embassies and d. C. , those republicans who betrayed themselves as moderate, they need to come on, and really do the peoples business, and make some decisions to align themselves with democrats, who have been delivering for the people. Congresswoman of ohio, we will have to leave, there thank you so much. A spokesperson for the Israeli Military says forces are fighting, in more than 20 areas, in the southern part of the country. The United NationsSecurity Council says it will convene tomorrow, for an Emergency Meeting. Already, expressing deep concern for the civilian populations. I want to bring in editor and chief of jerusalem post. Abe, what is it that you are hearing . Well this has been a black day in israel, perhaps one of the worst in the countrys history, as over 200 people have been confirmed dead, and over 1100 wounded, both numbers are expected to rise. We know that quite a few israeli civilians, including grandparents and children and families, have been abducted by hamas, and taken to gaza. We dont know exactly how many, or indeed where they are being kept. It is an extremely difficult day in this country, the entire country i think is in a state of trauma. And, we are trying to see exactly what can be done to restore some sort of sense of normalcy, in the days and weeks ahead. Adi, are you hearing anything about a full bore retaliation, and attempts to get those civilians out of gaza . Well, there has already been a reserve call up, many reservists, thousands across the country, have already been mobilized, and sent to the south, where much of the fighting has been taking place. We are likely to see a military campaign, in gaza, aimed at both restoring those civilians, bringing them home, and of course dealing a blow to hamas, and its leadership, which instigated this horrific, unprecedented response of israel, at the height of the jewish holy day today. We will certainly hear from you, throughout the day. But we will have to leave it there for right now, thank you for your time. And everybody at home, we are awaiting the president s remarks, at the white house. We will bring those to you, when they happen. But for now, we will be right back. It comes after the president spoke to Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahu this morning, and released a statement, saying the u. S. Stands ready to offer all appropriate means of appropriate support to israel. Joining me right now is nbcs ali ali, what more have you learned . Yeah lindsay, any minute now, we expect President Biden to deliver these remarks, from the white house, to give an update on the situation in israel, after we know that he has been constantly updated by his National Security team, by his top, after being briefed on this early this morning. He, as well as Vice President harris. And, this has really been an all hands on deck situation, you have Secretary Of State antony blinken, according to a state Department Also working and making calls, talking and coordinating, with his israeli counterparts. The president self being updated on the ground in israel and this is all coming as we know, reaction has been flooding in from members of the Biden Administration from his to name a few secretaries of states all echoing the same sentiment, saying that they stand by israel, they defend israels right to defend itself, and they will continue to support israel, in the long term here. As far as what actions this will pertain, to that is what is so unclear, and that is were going to be listening to, when we do hear the president speak today. What sort of next steps could we expect the administration to take. As we know, the u. S. And israel have a longstanding and Strong Partnership, and alliance. This is an alliance, our strongest alliance in the middle east. This is the country that shares our countrys democratic values, and it is an alliance that the president has repeatedly said that he is committed to, and will stand by, if it becomes threatened. What is going to be interesting to see is, we have seen the president Face Pressure to adjust the number, as far as the military aid that the u. S. Is sending to israel. As of, now israel is the number one recipient of u. S. Military aid, so it is going to be interesting to see whether he hints on that, whether that aid number could potentially be adjusted. Senior administration telling my colleague kelly odonnell, that as of this morning, israel had not submitted a request for that aid. And, it is that more broadly, the Foreign Policy aspect of, this how instability in this region could potentially ignite other middle eastern countries, to also have instability in that region. And of, course that also has repercussions back here in the United States. So we do expect the president and that we had on earlier, when he issued this statement. After speaking with Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahu, he said in part that this statement, the alliance between the United States and israel, is quote, rock solid and unwavering. He said in part, quote, terrorism is never justified, israel has a right to defend itself, and its people. He adds, the United States warns against any other party, hostile to israel, seeking advantage in this situation. And, he ended that statement, by saying that he and his team are tracking the situation, and he continues to be with israeli officials. As this i want to bring in martin fletcher, former nbc News Tel Aviv Bureau chief. Martin, thanks for being with us, youve covered israel for years, including for us here at nbc. Im wondering what your reaction is to what we are seeing today. Its beyond that well beyond i think whats happening is that israels entire conception of its defense, visavis gaza, hamas and gaza, has been completely shattered. And the idea that israel could be attacked by land sea and air, and none of any inkling that it was happening. A terrible Intelligence Failure, which is often already being compared of course to the failure of 50 years ago, almost today, when israel was surprised by egypt in i was actually there on that day, when they were attacked. It was a complete surprise, that they had intelligence information, they just didnt treat it correctly. This time, they had no information, as far as we know. So, that is an extraordinary failure of israels intelligence, of its preparations, and of the pictures that we are seeing of the celebrating palestinians in gaza, is just a warning of what is going to come. Because, palestinians in gaza, hamas now, have been appealing to arabs in israel, in the west bank, hezbollah in lebanon, to join the fight. So now, we are gonna have to see what happens. And will the fighting spread . Or, will israels attacks from the air on gaza, on hamas be enough. Or will there be a Ground Invasion of, by israel of gaza . To get, to attack hamas on the ground. And in particular, of course, to save the israeli captives, who are not being held hostage in gaza. And i want to read to Everybody A Statement that we just got, and what it says earlier today, idea fighter jets struck a Military Infrastructure Into into gaza strip, used by senior hamas terrorist operatives, for carrying out in one of the, buildings the and terrace organization with a hamas Intelligence Organization its Weapons Production and other offices belonging, to Senior Moss Terrace organization leaders. The second building, contained Military Offices general Security Apparatuses how significant is that retaliation, martin . I think it is very significant, because it has been going on a long time, when hamas had, obviously hitting those two tall buildings, that dominate the sky of gaza. But, having their Military Offices in residential buildings. By the way, the residential park commercial, was a way of moving a human shield, as you like. So israel israel did not attack those buildings, in past conflicts, because they wanted to avoid the kind of casualties that we are now seeing, after the attack to the two buildings. But apparently, israel, before they attacked, destroying the buildings, warned the residents to leave. They said that they were going to attack, and then they attack them, and they destroyed two major landmarks in gaza. So, it is very significant. By the way, there is another issue, in the headquarters of hamas, who has been known, for a long time, to be underneath the hospital of shiva, the main hospital in gaza, in the basement, is, or at least was, the headquarters of hamas. And israel always refrain from attacking, because of, course they dont want to attack a hospital. And in this case, they dont want to attack residential buildings in gaza. But now, i guess you could say the gloves are off. Theyve destroyed those buildings in gaza, it is a sign that israel is not going to go all out, in its attack on gaza. And as i said earlier, the big question is, does that include a Ground Invasion . And martin, just real quickly, because we are expecting the president to speak any moment. I may have to cut you off, what will you be listening for . From the president , well, as abby mentioned earlier, continuing support by the United States, is key to israels defense. In the 1973 war, israel would not have been able to win without american help. So, it is too early to say, they have only been fighting for one day. But israel will need significant help, in terms of munitions. In particular, its iron dome rocket Defense System, it will run out of rockets pretty soon. It doesnt have a huge amount, and it was overwhelmed, we understand, by the two and a half thousand rockets fired from gaza. If gaza, if hamas is able to continuing Firing Rockets into israel, at that amount, as many of those rockets in one day, well you know, israel is going to run out of defensive rockets. It needs psychological. Martin, im just going to the today, the people of israel are under attack, orchestrated by a terrorist organization, hamas. In this moment of tragedy, i want to say to them, and to the world, into terrorists everywhere, the United States stands with israel. We will not ever fail to have their back. We will make sure that they have helped their citizens need, and they continue to defend themselves. You know, the world sees appalling images. Thousands of rockets, in the space of ours, raining down on israeli cities. It started 7 30 8 00. Hamas terrorists crossed into israel, killing not only Israeli Soldiers, but israeli civilians. In the street, in their homes, innocent people murdered, wounded. Entire families taken hostage by hamas. Just days after israel marked the holiest of days in the jewish calendar. Its unconscionable. You know, when i spoke with Prime Minister netanyahu this morning, i told him that the United States stands with the people of israel, in the face of these terrorist assaults. Israel has the right to defend itself, and its people, full stop. There is never justification for terrorist attacks. And my administration supports israels security, and it is rock solid in unraveling. Let me say this, as clearly as i can. This is not a moment for any party hostile to israel, to exploit these attacks, to seek advantage. The world is watching. Ive also been in contact with the king of jordan, spoke with members of congress, director of my National Security team to engage with their israeli counterparts. Military to military, intelligence to intelligence, diplomats to diplomat, to make sure israel has what it needs. Ive also directed my team to remain in Constant Contact with leaders throughout the region, including egypt, turkey, qatar, saudi arabia, jordan, oman, the uae, as well as our european partners, in the palestinian authority. Its also a terrible tragedy on human level. Its hurting innocent people, seeing the lives that have been broken by this, the families torn apart, it is heartbreaking. Jill and i are praying for those families, who have been affected by this violence. We grieve with those who lost loved ones, lost a piece of their sole. We have hope for swift recovery, for many, who have been wounded. But we are going to remain in close touch with Prime Minister, i personally will remain in close contact with Prime Minister netanyahu, as the situation continues to develop. And let there be no mistake, the United States stands with the state of israel. Just as we have from the moment United States became the first nation to recognize israel, 11 minutes after its founding, 75 years ago. Thank you very much. Mister president , was there an Intelligence Failure in the lead up to this attack . Mister president , can you tell us about the, statement specifically for support . President biden, just addressing the nation, in the wake of hamas attacks on israel, with. I want to bring that nbc news correspondent, allie raffa. Also with us peter baker. Ali, the president saying that the u. S. Has israels back, saying that israel has the right to defend itself, full spot. But also, ali, the president confirming that entire families are among those taken hostage in gaza. Yeah lindsay, a very powerful message, in a very short span of time. And these remarks from President Biden, in the white house, just a minute ago. And as you mentioned, he talked about the diplomatic efforts the communication by his administration, as well as himself personally, since this crisis started, earlier this morning. But he also talk about the human aspect of that, these images that americans have been seeing, people around the world have been seeing. These images of just the devastation caused by this attack, in israel, by hamas militants. And he reiterated, as he talked about, what he said earlier in that statement, after he had this call with Prime Minister netanyahu, that the support for israel will continue. He called it unwavering, rock solid. He said, quote, the world is watching. He said he spoke also if the king of jordan, members of congress. He is still coordinating with members of his Administration Officials on next steps here. And, he also vowed to continue having personal communication, oneonone communication with the Prime Minister, as this continues. And lindsey, it cant be underscored enough, how important and significant this alliance is between the United States and israel. It is one of our key alliances, it is our strongest alliance in the middle east. And, it also is extremely important, as far as the stability in the middle east. So, you heard the president commit to continue helping israel, for as long as it needs, and anyway it needs. But we are still waiting to hear what exactly those actions will entail. What could the u. S. Continue to do, step wise specifically, to continue helping israel . So those are definitely things that we are going to continue to watch and see. As this situation it continues to be very fluid, as well as the reaction to it, from the and white house officials allround, lindsey. Peter, the world is watching. The president saying, dont use this as an excuse against israel. Who is that warning to, peter . He obviously, he didnt say it out loud. But he obviously has to imagine his talk about iran in particular, and others who might have it was really enemies. Right, now they are worried about what hezbollah might do, on the northern border of israel, and that is something that iran had a great deal of influence over. And what he is trying to say is, do not dare to escalate, because you are not going to appreciate what happens in reaction to that. You know, the unspoken message here as well, is a president who has a long record of support for israel, who has had some tensions in the last year or so with Prime Minister netanyahu, disagreements about approaches to both domestic issues inside israel, and the approach to Irans Nuclear program. But he is trying to say years, dont let that confuse you. The United States stands with israel, when it comes to issues like this, when it comes to its security. There is no daylight between President Biden, and Prime Minister netanyahu, when it comes to a conflict, in an unprovoked attack like this. That is the message the president was trying to send. And therefore, those in the middle east to think that they can take advantage of, this and again i think he is taking advantage should be a very cautious about acting at this. Point there have been some republican lawmakers, already critical of the white house, and the hostage deal that involved more funds that were opened up to iran, and were only to be used for humanitarian reasons. But peter, obviously the president not addressing that. I mean, what is there to stop iran, from using those funds as anything but humanitarian reasons . Yeah, so the deal that the Biden Administration cut with iran, and release those american hostages, was to unfreeze, in effect, Six Billion Dollars worth of irans own money, that was frozen in banks in south korea. And that was, move that money was moved, or is being moved to a bank in the middle east, they will have access to, only in theory, for humanitarian purposes. Now, the white house has already said today, that none of those money have actually been spent so far, even if you believe it is fungible. So, far not any of that has actually been a firearm. But, critics argue that giving iran access to money, even for humanitarian purposes, means they dont have to use their own money, or other, money for those same purposes. And therefore, it frees them up for hostile acts, like potentially funding, or helping groups like hamas or hezbollah. And, that is a Quick Reaction by the republicans, looking to take advantage of this moment, by attacking President Biden for that hostage. Deal but it was a question, of course, about whether that deal was wise in the first place. And at the moment, the white house is saying look, this is nothing to do with that. Everybody is trying to make that point in effect, saying they are simply making partisan point for political. Game we will be hearing from you. Nbcs Julia Circuit is now with me, with some new reporting. Julie . Yet, sources tell myself, my colleague courtney, that the u. S. Intelligence officials are now considering enhanced intelligence sharing, with their israeli counterparts. Now i want to be clear, no official decisions have made. But as they discuss the Surprise Attack, that they have all agreed, they have been caught off guard on, according to our sources. They are looking at a plethora of options, from drones to satellites, and other options as well. They are considering in the wake of this attack. I also want to point out that no lawmakers, im told, have received classified briefings on this, even top officials from the intelligence communities, even those members of that socalled gain of eight of the top leaders on capitol hill. Former House Speaker kevin mccarthy, actually talked about this last hour. Take a listen to what he said. There is nothing the house can do, until they elect a speaker. No i dont know if that happens quickly. The speaker is part of the gang of eight, that takes action to be able to have the briefings and others. But think about this, the whole, why would you ever remove the speaker, during a term, to raise doubt around the world . Now, mccarthy has also been tweeting, that he has spoken to the Israeli Knesset today, the speaker of the Israeli Knesset, somebody that mccarthy has visited in israel, a couple of months ago, when he made that trip, months before he invited president isaac herzog to come deliver anna over the summer, a joint address over the 75th Anniversary of israels independence. This is clearly somebody who was acting still, as if they are speaker, as we have an interim speaker, patrick mchenry, with open questions as to what he can even, do in terms of receiving this classified information, that eventually, i am told, lawmakers with that kind of power will begin to get, as the administration learns more, of exactly what happens behind the scenes here. Okay, julie tsirkin, thank you for that reporting, appreciate it. Weve got a lot more coming up, you are watching msnbc. Our second hour starts right now. Now. And i am linsey in for yasmin vossoughian. If you are just joining, us welcome. If you are still with, us thank you. We are continuing our coverage of the violence and chaos within israel. Moments ago, we heard President Biden address the situation in israel. And, we will have more on his remarks, when i talk to msnbc host jen psaki shortly. But first, we want to reset where we are. At this hour, at least 70 are dead, several hundred more injured, after a massive attack by hamas, by air, land, and see. Thousands of rockets, and hundreds of militants, pouring into the country. And, the biggest escalation the region has seen in years. In response, israel has fired rockets into gaza, the Health Ministry says around 200 people there have been killed. I want to go ahead and go to raf sanchez, who is on the ground. All right, we do not have raf, we will have gavin in a moment. Of course, he and his crew, things are very fluid on the ground, as they have been giving us information,
