normalcy by july 4th weekend. there is light literally now that the lights have sprung forward. we'll have an extra hour of daylight. after the year we had it's hard not to feel a little good about what is on the horizon. however it could be a vastly different reality right now if the insurrection on january 6th had not failed. it has been two months and eight days since that day. the fbi is still working to make sure everyone that stormed the capital is fully prosecuted for their crimes. they are dotting their is and crossing their ts going through mown tapes of evidence but it all started at the top. cleaning up that january 6th mess is a top priority for merick garland. we're learning more about some of the rye jotters that were arrested. sivic is accused of stealing the badge and radio from a dc police officer after a crowd beat him unconscious. he buried it in his backyard in buffalo. he will appear in front of a federal judge on tuesday. also we're learning about a member of the army reserve. military investigators found he was widely known as a white supremacist and regularly talked about his hatred for jewish people. one coworker says he discussed his dislike for jews every day. he had to be reprimanded for wearing a hitler mustache. all of the feel that worked for our failed former president add mid that trump was responsible. >> do you think the president was responsible for what happened on the 6th? >> i don't know, but it seems cause and effect, yeah. the question is would anyone have marched on the capitol and overrun the capitol without the president's speech? i think it is definitive that it wouldn't have happened. so yes. >> with miller speaking out that makes about one quarter of trump's cabinet that have rebuked him. they resigned from their jobs in the days immediately following the insurrection. joining me now is nancy cook. good morning, nancy. >> good morning, ali, great to see you. >> thank you, nancy. now that merick garland is the attorney general. he needs to rebuild the justice department, rebuild the trust that americans have for the justice department, those are big jobs no matter what, but he has the biggest of jobs right in front of him and that is how the justice department and the if, bi will deal with these e 400 people they expect in total to have been charged and how they deal with the things that lead to the insurrection. that has to be job one right now. >> yeah, and he made it area that he would view this grows threat of domestic performance as a very key part of his job as attorney general. he was just sworn in on thursday. he has been in dc for years. he understands the levers of federal government and the power of the department of justice. i think in addition to going after what happened at the capitol and tries to prosecute people for that and hold people accountable, he will look at the growing threat that we saw of domestic terrorism that grew under president trump and his watch. we saw a lot of former trump officials that talked about that threat and i think he he will view that as a very key part of his tenure at the d.o.j. >> and they saw the disappointment, there are people that wonder what these 400 people who get charged what they will face and what will stick. it doesn't seem to be something that joe biden talks a lot about, or the administration talks a lot about. >> that's a great point i think the biden white house has gone out of it's way to turn the page on president trump as much as possible. you don't hear president biden or jen psaki even say trump's name very often. i think they're intent on trying to draw a very sharp contrast with the trump administration. i think they're trying to roll back most of the trump policies in place but they don't hash on him that much and i think they will leave a lot of the prosecution to the doj. the trump administration was trying to run things out of the white house a little more. the challenge of prosecuting these salespeople there is a will the of evidence from social media, from thicks that people posted, the insurrectionists taking things from the capitol hill officers as momentos. that is interesting thanks to twitter, instagram, and the streaming videos. >> and thanks to the fact that so so much of the evidence was provided by the people themselves with posts and selfies and forecasts. joining me now is susan wild of pennsylvania who represents the state's 7th congressional district and is a member of the house foreign affairs committee. thank you for being with us, good to see you. >> now that congress passed the covid relief bill, one of the next issues you're looking to tackle is immigration. yesterday the department of homeland security announced they would use fema. tell me what you make of this? >> i'm glad to see the administration is treating the immigration situation and the situation at the border with the humanity it deserves. i think it is incredibly important that fema get involved and that we get these children out of detention as soon as possible and families put back together as quickly as possible. so i applaud their efforts to do this. >> let's talk about what things are like in congress right now. one might have thought that it would have resulted in a sheared experience of you and your republican colleagues and brought everyone together in the way that so many other tragedies in american history have done. there was zero republican support in either chamber for the relief act, and we're seeing some around the country taking credit for the effects that it is going to have. >> you would have thought that we would come together andbond over our shared experience. and we saw republicans voting in opposition to certification of the election. so that was a discouraging sign of things to come. what i'm happy to report is that people are bonded and cohesive on the idea of bringing relief to the american people. and we have done that this past week. i heard from my subsequents that some people were already seeing money in their bank accounts which is very great. so we're going to keep working forward. my style is not to pay attention to the division, but to work and try to find where we can find common ground. >> let's talk a little about the relief act. we talk about the $1400, some of it is going into accounts as we speak. we talk about federal unemployment benefits, but through is a lot in that bill. some argue that some of the provisions that many people don't know much about including abover it alleviation is going to be more important, it caused the stock market to be royaled last week. they're saying we might finally see some inflation. >> i don't think that is going to happen. i think we're going to see a great jump start to the economy. and there is a lot of really wonderful things in this bill and i hope that people will take time to read the bill. they need to talk about what will really jump start our economy. there is money for small independent restaurant that's have been struggling for so long. there is, as you pointed out, an increase to the child tax credit making it fully refundable. $7,000 per child, than will have an immediate impact. and refundable tax credit, that means if they don't owe or don't owe as much they will still get a refund of $3,000 per child. this will have the effect of lifting families out of poverty. almost immediately. there is lots of money in this for schools and very importantly for our local municipalities. i'm hearing from the may yofrs in my district, they were facing layoffs of key blows that had been there for a long time and basically because of the rediction in tax revenue and now they don't have to lay off those people. we're going to save millions of jobs. there is also wonderful subsidies on health insurance for the aca and for people that lost their insurance as a result of losing their job in the pandemic. the open period has been expanded. there are additional subsidies so they can get back on their health insurance or afford it. i think a bill that brings those benefits to the american people is where we need to be right now. >> representative susan wild, good to talk to you. a democrat from pennsylvania. her name is angea chen, and she diagnosed the first united states coronavirus case. she had to miss her son's first steps just to make sure that her son stayed safe. we'll have her story, next, on velshi. velshi designed our 5g to make the things you do every day better. with 5g nationwide, millions of people can now work, listen, and stream in verizon 5g quality. and in parts of many cities where people can use massive capacity, we have ultra wideband, the fastest 5g in the world. this is the 5g that's built for you. this is 5g built right. only from verizon. did you know that 70% of the soils on your clothes are invisible? >> yes, so it was actually the results took a little time to come back. it was a leap year that day we saw the patient on february 29th, and it is just really hard to reflect on what a year has been. when they first showed up, we really -- i have to commend our triage nurses, they flagged this patient as being high risk for being possible covid case and really did everything that could to make sure that we safely take care of this patient in a way that protects the patient and everyone else in the emergency department that day. >> last week i spoke to some of the staff and the employees of the new york beth israel hospital. three had little children at the time. you had a 1-year-old son at the time. what happened? how did that all go down? you realized you had been exposed to a covid patient and you realized you would see more of this, what did you do with your son? >> so we were incredibly fortunate. my parents live in new jersey, we had a safe place to send him away. we were hearing the cases coming out of china, and we realized that it would be inevitable that i would bring the virus home by becoming infected myself or bringing the particles home on my clothing or shoes. so it was a very challenging decision and in order to keep him safe we decided we would have to not live with him for awhile. we we're so thankful to have a place to send him where he could be taken care of and be safe. >> what contact did you have with him over the course of the year? >> it was very, very hard. over about four-and-a-half months we saw him mainly through facetime, phone calls, and when we could we saw him behind a pane of glass. it was incredibly hard. it is challenging to tell a 14 month-year-old that he can't come running through the door and give mommy a hug. they just don't understand and everything was limited through a screen or a physical barrier separating us. >> what do you take from that? this is, at the earlier part of your career, what has this remarkable life changing experience and the way you had to deal with not being near your son, what has it taught you? >> you know, i think that for a lot of us in the health care profession we went into it because we felt a calling to help people in need and never has that been felt than during this pandemic. even though it was difficult i think children are remarkably resilient. i think this is an important thing. that i'm able to tell him when he is older, that if he is able to do good when the world is in disarray. and make a small impact, that you should do it and i hope that's the lesson that he takes away from this. the other thing i think that is truly tumultuous is that at the base of it, you know, how important it was for all of us to stick together. i know i would not have made it through the year without the effort of everybody that works in the emergency departments. my colleagues, the residents, the pas, to the business associates that work with us, the nurses, even housekeeping staff, we could not have functioned and got through the year without the efforts of everyone on the team. >> well said. thank you for everything you did and one day we will thank your son because he gave up stuff so you could keep people safe. she diagnosed the first case of coronavirus in new york city. according to the brandon center for justice, around the country, we'll go to one of the states with the toughest fights, next. t ) off-road trip.
