On June 20, Anderson was visiting CHOP — the self-declared autonomous zone in which police cleared the department’s East Precinct and surrounding areas, according to The Seattle Times — when he ran into another teen identified as Marcel Long. Shown on surveillance video and described by witnesses, a scuffle ensued with others pulling the young men apart. Long allegedly then pulled a handgun and shot Anderson several times.
Anderson graduated just a day prior to his death from an alternative youth program, The Seattle Times report.
On June 8, the police department withdrew their forces and left behind an East Precinct on Capitol Hill district.
