It may be a strange ambition for a movie based on a video game set in a fantasy world in which fighters with supernatural powers battle each other to the gruesome end, but director Simon McQuoid was determined to make
Mortal Kombat as real as he possibly could.
âItâs all about believing in a world,â says the Perth-based director of the brutal action movie, which was shot in South Australia in 2019. âWhat Iâm trying to do is make the unreal real, the unbelievable believable. Thereâs so much stuff now thatâs totally visual effects, and really great visual effects, itâs just that I think you can never beat reality.â
