MORENCI — Just a little before 10:30 a.m. Saturday, the inaugural first pitch was thrown by Morenci Mayor Sean Seger, ushering in the official start of Morenci’s Little League baseball and softball season.
After a year of being sidelined from the playing field because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Morenci community gathered Saturday and celebrated the long-awaited start of the youth baseball and softball season. The celebratory day, which had quite the feel of “normalcy” to it, featured a parade of youth baseball and softball players, coaches, parents, mascots and public officials — led by the Morenci fire and police departments — down Main Street to Wakefield Park.
