More women, more people of color and more LGBTQ: Worcester’s race for city council just got a lot more diverse

For Shirley Konneh, a life mantra is to “be the person you needed when you were young.”
For a young Konneh, representation was among the things missing. With her mantra in mind, Konneh launched a campaign for a Worcester City Council at-large seat. She’s among a group of new candidates that so far includes three Black women and several LGBTQIA+ individuals, positioning this year’s campaign to be a significant part of Worcester’s history.
