The incident was caught on camera in dramatic video footage and shows the driver of a dark saloon car trying to leap in front of it when he realises it's being stolen.
The theft took place at a BP garage with a Marks and Spencer Simply Food franchise in leafy north London suburb Arnos Grove on Wednesday this week.
The middle aged driver is thought to have left his keys in the ignition when he nipped into the store to pay for petrol.
Once the man entered the store one leapt out and jumped into the driver's seat of his car
