Modi surname case: Supreme Court stays Rahul Gandhis conviction; Congress leader can now return to Lok Sabha, contest polls

In a big relief to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Supreme Court on Friday (August 4) stayed his conviction in a 2019 defamation case over his Modi surname remark, paving the way for revival of his Lok Sabha membership. Congress party members including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Jairam Ramesh, Ashok Gehlot, among others, welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court.
